                    Foundation / Advanced Portfolio

                   TV adverts – research assignment

In order to get access to cameras, you must do the following things. This
work will contribute to the Research and Planning mark you will receive for the
A2 coursework unit.


   1. Set up a new blog – with your name and the topic in the title of the blog
      and the blog address (e.g. Rob Robertson’s TV advert production blog
      http://robrobertson’s_tv_advert_blog.blogspot.com )
   2. Embed some TV adverts from youtube which you wish to comment on
      – minimum of 5, maximum 10.
   3. For each of the adverts, answer the list of set questions below –
      answers to be pasted onto your blog.
   4. Draw out a storyboard – with a minimum of 20 frames
   5. Photograph the storyboard and import to computer
   6. Post the storyboard images onto your blog


This work must be done by the time of the next lesson in order for you to
access the cameras – assuming you work to the deadline, next lesson you
come to class to show the storyboard and pick up a camera and then go to
shoot the advert.

TV advert questions

   1. Who is the target audience for the product? (Consider age, gender
      and any other factor you consider relevant)

   2. What image is constructed for the product? (Is the product something
      that improves you, something that makes you more attractive, makes
      you cooler enables you to have more friends?) You need to be specific
      and use specific terminology – identify camera shots, discuss mise-en-
      scene, diegetic sound and other technical elements as appropriate.

   3. What social groups are represented in the advert and how are they
      represented? (Consider age, gender, ethnicity, social class and other
      groups as appropriate)

   4. What mode of address is used? (Is the style and tone of the advert
      serious or funny, formal or informal, or some combination of these
      things?) Why do you think this is the case?
