G324 Advanced Portfolio
In the evaluation the following four questions must be addressed:
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions of real media products?
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
How did you use media technologies in the construction and research,
planning and evaluation stages?
The form of the presentation could be a PowerPoint with video/audio links/screen
grabs to your work, using screen grabsdemonstrating your progress. The PowerPoint
could be supported by an audio or written commentary.
Each of the following questions needs to be answered in your evaluation
HOW DOES THIS RELATE TO THE EXAM???
Question 1(a) in the exam requires candidates to describe and evaluate their skills
development over the course of their production work, from Foundation Portfolio to
Advanced Portfolio. The focus of this evaluation must be on skills development, and the
question will require them to adapt this to one or two specific production practices. The
list of practices to which questions will relate is as follows:
Research and planning
Using conventions from real media texts
All of the above can be covered as you complete your evaluation, so effectively you are
answering part of the first question in the exam, as you complete your evaluation over

Consider the following:
The title of the Film/Music Video/Documentary/Newspaper
Setting/location (or ‘Context’ in terms of documentary or newspaper)
Costumes and props ( or design and layout/house style)
Camerawork and editing ( or photography and print design and layout)
Title font and style ( or print design and layout)
Story and how the opening sets it up (conventional/fragmented/elliptical)
Genre and how the opening suggests it (i.e. horror/narrative music video/tabloid
How characters are introduced (in film or written copy)
