This document discusses waterfront parks and open space in Central Waterfront. It outlines central waterfront parks projects that have been completed since 2001 as well as parks currently underway and future planned parks. It also discusses funds set aside for maintenance of items within the Queens Quay project and the results of operations and maintenance audits of three waterfront projects, including recommendations to include parks operations and maintenance staff in the design process and to create portable maintenance guides.

12.  As part of the design process forQueens Quay
Blvd,WaterfrontToronto set aside a reserve fund
for the non-standard items within the street.This
included the granite paving and benches within
the right-of-way.
 An agreed upon amount of 5% of the capital
investment on those two items has been held
and will be expended for short-term
maintenance of those two items within the
QueensQuay project.
 The purpose of this reserve fund is to augment
budgets for maintenance held within the larger
City ofToronto budgets

13. • In 2016/17WaterfrontToronto and City ofToronto
Parks and Recreation undertook O&M Audits of three
projects on the waterfront.
• The purpose of these audits was to assess from a
maintenance perspective any lessons learned that
could inform future park projects on the
waterfront. Some initial findings include:
o Parks Operation and Maintenance staff should be
included as part of the project team during the
design and construction phases of all future parks.
The goal is to inform design details that are easier
to maintain and encourage ownership for those
details once the project is complete.
o In addition to comprehensive maintenance
manuals, simple, portable “cheat sheets” should
be prepared which identify important key day-to-
day operational strategies and can be easily
located in field offices and fleet vehicles.
