2. PROJECT OVERVIEW
1915Canakkale Bridge and Motorway Project
comprises 88 km of motorway including the
1915Canakkale Bridge and 13 km of access
roads stretching between Malkara and
Canakkale.
When completed, the 1915Canakkale Bridge
will be the longest mid-span suspension
bridge in the world with its mid-span of
2,023 meters and it will also have the
reputation of being the world's highest
tower suspension bridge with a height of
334 meters.
3. PROJECT FINANCE
• For the 1915Çanakkale Bridge and
Motorway Project, finance agreements
were signed with 25 financial institutions
from 10 countries on 16 March 2018,
securing a 15 year term loan with a grace
period of 5 years, for a total sum of 2.265
billion EUR. %70 of the loan was provided
by 19 foreign banks and financial
institutions, and %30 by Turkish banks.

6. ISSUES OF CONCERN
Issues of concern can be discussed only for the operation period of the lifecycle of the project, as
the project is about to be completed:
• Vehicles passing through the
motorway will increase the emissions,
causing pollution
• New motorway will attract people
outside the region which will increase
the population
• Land prices will hike and rapid
urbanization will evolve
Recommendations
Introduce speed limits by smart systems to improve the
air quality, reduce stop-start requirements
Implement planned urbanization (an urban/spatial plan
that addresses density, land use, streets and public
spaces, and the definition of public and private
domains through urban planning and design; 2. a legal
plan that contains the rules of land subdivision and
land occupation, as well as the regulatory frameworks
governing planned urbanization; and 3. a financial plan
to mobilize resources for its realization )
7. ISSUES OF CONCERN
• The bridge will be subject to severe
environment conditions such as
seismic movement and hard winds in
the region.
Recommendations
• monitor bridge health against seismic
movements and hard winds
• calibrate numerical models that can
reproduce structural responses under
different actions
• verify the achievement of performance
goals defined by codes
