▪ A556- strategic trunk road linking North Cheshire & Southern Greater Manchester
with the West Midlands & the South.
▪ Only non-motorway section of the SRN between Birmingham and Manchester.
▪ 6.5km long running through the communities of Bucklow Hill, Mere and Over Tabley
between J19 of the M6 and J7 of the M56.
▪ Awarded Early Contractor Involvement 2010
▪ Buildability 2012
▪ Segregate strategic and local road
users
▪ Build 7.5km Dual Carriageway (6km
offline)
▪ Re-model Junction 7 to the M56 at
(omitting bottleneck at Bowdon
roundabout)
▪ Build 1 underpass & 7 new over-bridges
(including 1st Green Bridge in the
Northwest)
▪ Major stats diversions
▪ Move in excess of 1,000, 000m³ of
earth in a balanced earthworks
operation.
▪ Provide environmental mitigation
