Input devices
Input device is any hardware
component used to enter data or
instructions .
It is most commonly used input data used to
input data into written form keyboard is merely a
collection of momentary switch
Types
 Normal keyboard
 Multimedia keyboard
A normal keyboard has 101 -104 keys which are distributed into five
categories
 Function keys
F1to F 12
 Alphabetic keys
A-Z ,a-z, 0-9
 Special keys
Alt ,Ctrl ,Enter ,Insert, Home end Esc etc.
 Numeric keys
%,+ ,-,* ,@ etc.
Allows you to take
digital pictures
Images viewable immediately on
camera
• Download to computer
• Post pictures to Web
Sharpness and clarity of image is called resolution
The higher the resolution, the better the image quality,
but the more expensive the camera
 Pixel (picture element)
is single point in
electronic image
 Greater the number of
pixels, the better the
image quality
Step1:
Point to the image to photograph and take picture light passes into lens of
camera.
Step2:
Image is focused on a chip called a charge coupled device(CCD)
Step3:
CCD generates an analog signal that represents the image .
Step4:
Analog signal convert into digital signal by analog –to-digital converter(ADC).
Step5:
Digital signal processer (DSP) adjusts quality of image and usually stores digital
image on miniature mobile storage media in the camera.
Step6:
Images are copied to hard disk from storage media used in camera.
Step 7:
Using software supplied with the camera, images are viewed on screen,
incorporated in document, edited and printed .
 No film is needed and there are no film developing costs.
 Unwanted images can be deleted straight away
Image are already and can easily be transferred over the
internet .
Special image editing software can allow a huge range of
adjustments and special effects to be tried
 Images often have to be compressed to avoid using up too
much expensive
INPUT
Any thing that is given to the computer through peripheral
devices is called input.
TYPES OF INPUT
There are two types of input
• Data
• Instruction
DATA:
Collection of raw facts and figures images, sound, video is
called data.
INSTRUCTION:
Organized form of data like program command is
called information
Voice Input
voice recognition work
 Step 1. A user dictates text into a microphone.
 Step 2. An analog-to-digital converter (ADC) translates
sound waves into digital measurements computer can
process. Measurements include pitch, volume, silences, and
phonemes.
 Step 3. Software compares spoken measurements with
those in its database to find a match or list of possible
matches.
 Step 4. To narrow a list down, software presents user with a
list of choices or uses a natural language component to
predict most likely match. User may correct any selection
made by software.
Voice Input
What is a MIDI (musical instrument
digital interface)?
External device, such as electronic piano
keyboard, to input music and sound effects.
Video Input
 Process of entering full-motion images into
computer.
Video Input
Video capture card:
It is adapter card that converts
analog video signal into digital
signal that
computer can use.
Video Input
What is Digital video (DV) camera
 It is used to records video as digital
signals.
Video Input
PC video camera and a Web cam
 PC video camerac—cDV camera used to capture
video and still images, and to make
video telephone calls on Internet.
 Also called PC camera.
 Web camc—cvideo camera
whose output displays on
a Web page.
Video Input
video conferencing
 Two or more geographically separated people
who use network on Internet to transmit audio
and video data.
 Whiteboard is another window on screen that can
display notes and drawings
simultaneously on all participants’ screens.
