The Emotiv EPOC is a 14 channel EEG system that detects brain signals through electroencephalography (EEG) and translates them into commands using brain-computer interface (BCI) technology. It measures facial expressions, emotions, and cognitive states to control applications. Current applications include virtual navigation, gaming, controlling wheelchairs. With improved detection techniques, it has potential for a wide range of uses including assisting people with disabilities and advancing artificial intelligence.

5. Emotive EPOC is a high resolution ,multi
channel EEG system having 14 EEG
channel and 2 references .
6. EPOC uses three suites to determine signal
inputs:-
Emotions (Affectiv suite)
– Excitement
– Engagement
– Frustration
7. • Facial expression
(Expressiv suite)
– eyelid and eyebrow
positions,
– eye position in the horizontal
plane,
– smiling,
– laughing,
– clenching,
– smirking
8. • Cognitiv suite : 13 kinds
of movement
– 6 directions(left, right, up, down,
forward, and "pull/zoom")
– 6 rotations([anti-]clockwise rotation,
turn left and right, and sway
backward and forward)
– visualization ("disappear“).
9. WORKING -
Emotiv Epoc is based on two working
principles which are-
Electroencephalography and Brain-
Computer Interfacing
Electroencephalography (EEG) is the
recording of electrical activity along the
scalp produced by firing of neurons
within the brain.
10. A brain-computer interface (BCI),
sometimes called a direct neural
interface or a brain-machine interface, is
a direct communication pathway
between a human brain and an external
device.
11. APPLICATIONS -
• Currently this system is
being used in Virtual 3D
navigation and in
gaming applications .
