The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection also known as IBPS is a recruiting
organization was founded to standardize the recruitment process for the placement of
vacancies in the public sector banks in India except SBI. The IBPS helps in providing
standardized assessment and placement to the banking organizations.
IBPS offers its services to all banks in the public sector banks such as SBI, RBI,
NABARD, SIDBI and private sectors, regional rural banks, foreign banks, financial
institutions, insurance companies, academic institutions and co-operative banks.
In 1969 when the nationalization of banks took place, the Indian banks needed to expand
their branches across the country and hence had a large number of various positions to be
filled by recruitment and they used advertisement channel to do the same and the results
were unsatisfactory. The banks considered the help of National Institute of Bank
management to design a selection process to ensure the hiring of efficient and skilled
candidates. In 1984 the department that worked in the selection process was named as
Institute of Banking Personnel Selection.
Earlier aspirants were to attend multiple exams by each bank to apply for various
positions however now the IBPS functions as the autonomous body that conducts
competitive exams for the recuritment of clerical and officer's post in the banking sector.
The IBPS now conducts two exams for the position of probationary officers (PO), two
exams for the clerical levels and one exam for the specialist officers like agricultural,
legal, technical etc., IBPS is a recruitment board that comprises of nominees from various
government organizations.

The IBPS RRB officer grade exam is conducted in three parts:
2. The first part is the preliminary part which comprises of reasoning and numerical
ability topics and carries 40 questions of 40 marks each and is for a duration of 45
minutes.
The second part is the mains exam consisting of reasoning, computer knowledge,
numerical ability, general awareness, Hindi/English language.
The third part is the interview round.
IBPS has released the IBPS RRB Officer Admit card for the mains office assistant exam
for the year 2018. The aspirants who cleared the office assistant prelims exam can now
download the IBPS admit card for the mains exam of RRB office assistant position. 56
Regional Rural Banks are participating in the recruitment process for the year 2018.
There are about 5,248 vacancies for the post of Office assistant and 3,312 vacancies to
be filled for the post of officer scale I. The IBPS RRB Officer Mains exam was
conducted on the 7th of October 2018.
