2. INTRODUCTION
The acronym of CMC is Computer Mediated Communication. CMC is
communication that takes places between human beings via the instrumentality
of computer. CMC is defined as any human communication that occurs through
the use of two or more electronic devices. The field of research on computer
mediated communication in education is a relatively new research area in
educational environments, the use of CMC tools can be a source of support as
well as a challenge. Also CMC refers to any form of interpersonal
communication that uses some form of computer technology to transmit, store,

4. What needed for CMC?
1. For all of the CMC system, we need a computer network connection
2. For Audio conferencing, we need a microphone
3. For video conferencing, we need a video camera
Interpersonal Communication Elements in CMC
1. Sender’s anonymity
2. Receivers
3. Channel
4. Messages
5. Feedback
6. Context in CMC
Synchronous
1. The exchange of information in real time is known as synchronous
communication. It means learners are communicating at the same time it
helps e-learners to feel like participants
2. Synchronous communication can be in
Text
Audio
In Video form
Features
Collaboration
Immediate response
1 to 1 communication
Allow body language
5. Synchronic Applications
Most well known synchronic communication applications
Instant messaging
Skype
Video conferencing
Telephone conversation
Internet Relay Chat (IRC) and many more
Instant Messaging
Instant messaging is the exchange of text messages through a software
application in real time. Most popular instant messaging applications are
whatsapp, Skype, twitter etc
Skype
Skype is the most famous application of synchronic communication.
Because it requires users to be online at the same time.
Video conferencing
It is real time video and audio communication between people in different
locations
Asynchronous Communication
It means that people are communication at different time
In it, interaction is not real time
Like synchronic communication, it can be in
Text
Audio or in
Video form
6. Features
Available anytime
Available anyplace
Variety of media
Multiple perspective
One to one or one to many communication
Asynchronous applications
Most famous asynchronous communication applications are
Email, texting, facebook, youtube, news groups
Email
It is the most famous asynchronous communication type: The users
produce, send and receive mail at a computer
Newsgroups
A newsgroup is repository usually within the usenet system, where
messages posed for many users at different locations
Distance Learning
CMC plays a very important role in distance learning. CMC make
distance learning like learning in classroom
Eg: Virtual University
7. CONCLUSION
CMC opened a new way of interactive learning in the modern education
filed. Interpersonal communication in CMC is a better learning procedure for all
students. Synchronous and asynchronous communication can be considered as
features of CMC. CMC plays a prominent role on distance learning
