4. Dear children.
We are studying this chapter “PRISMS” in continuation of the study of rectangular prisms. Apart from finding the volume and surface area of the prisms by using the formula the study of this chapter enable the student to attain the aptitude to apply the knowledge they gained in necessary situation in daily life. Through this chapter the students understand the changes taking place in the volume and surface area while joining the prisms or cutting them into smaller prisms applying logically the knowledge obtained from the previous classes about the geometrically figures.

6. Prism S
A solid with two congruent parallel faces, where any cross section parallel to those faces is congruent to them.

9. Surface Area of Prisms
The surface area of prisms is the sum of its base area and lateral surface area
The lateral surface area of any prism is equal to the product of its base perimeter and height.

Volume of a prism is the product of its base area and height

12. Triangular prism
It has two triangular bases and three rectangular faces
It consist of 5 faces and 6 vertices.
If the base face of the triangular prism is equilateral triangle and the other faces are squares, then the triangular prism is said to be semi regular
12
13. Square prism
A solid figure whose bases are squares
Another name of square prism is cuboid
Opposite sides and angles are congruent
Faces of square prisms are rectangles
13
14. Rectangular prism
A rectangular prism has six rectangular faces
The opposite faces are equal and parallel
The bases are congruent to each other
14
16. Cylinder
Cylinder has two circular bases
The bases are always congruent and parallel to each other
Height of the cylinder is the perpendicular distance between the bases
