This document discusses aircraft hangers, including what they are, how they are constructed, and planning considerations. It provides the following key points:
- Aircraft hangers provide enclosed spaces for servicing, overhauling, inspecting, and repairing aircraft. They are constructed with steel frames and covered with galvanized iron sheets.
- Hangars come in different types and sizes depending on the size of aircraft they need to accommodate, ranging from small hangars less than 30m to extra-large hangars over 120m.
- Location considerations for hangar sites include proximity to runways and aprons, protection from storms, access to utilities, drainage, and space for future expansion. Proper ventilation
3. What is a Hanger Area ?
Provided an enclosure for
๏ต Servicing
๏ต Overhauling or renovation
work
๏ต Inspection work and
๏ต For repair works
of the aircraft
5. How these are constructed ?
๏ต Steel Frames and covered with
galvanised iron sheets.
๏ต This may be of single hanger to
store large number of aircrafts.
๏ต Depends on peak hour volume of
aircrafts and their demand on
rental basis by different airline
agencies.
6. ๏ต It also depends on size of aircraft as follows
๏ต For bigger aircrafts such as Airbus
A380,Antonov 225 and Boeing 747 comes
under XXL size.
size Door span (m)
S Less than 30m
M 30-60m
L 60-90m
XL 90-120m
XXL Greater than 120m
7. Hanger Site Location
๏ต Proximity to the loading aprons.
๏ต Far from the direction of frequent storms
to prevent damage of structures.
๏ต Proximity to and easy installation of
utilities, e.g. electricity, telephone, water
supply and sewers etc.
8. ๏ต Sufficient area to provide car
parking facilities for working
personnel.
๏ต Topography providing good
natural drainage.
๏ต Future expansion facilities
9. Planning Considerations
๏ต Storage and service hangers occupy
more space of Terminal area.
๏ต Shape of hanger should cover minimum
land area and provide adequate space
for storage.
๏ต For small aircrafts , T-shaped hanger is
most desirable and economic design
11. ๏ต Its important to observe that the area
should be large to accommodate different
aircrafts.
๏ต Minimum clearance of 0.30 meters.
๏ต For bigger aircrafts โ nose hangers are
provided
where, front part of aircraft is covered
back portion was exposed
๏ต This is economical and maintenance work
will be easy.
13. ๏ต Proper Ventilation for Light and air to be
considered, helps for inspection works.
๏ต Reflective sheets for walls to reflect the light inside
hanger.
๏ต Proper insulation has to be provided for roof as well
as wall to prevent heat .
