The respiratory tract extends from the nostrils to the alveoli. It includes the nostrils, nasal cavity, trachea, bronchi and bronchioles. The alveoli are delicate air sacs where the exchange of gases takes place and are surrounded by capillaries. Together, these structures form the pathway that allows for the intake of oxygen and removal of carbon dioxide from the body.
