Chinese Discrimination In America
The presentation in class by Ricky Thao has thought me a lot about Chinese Americans. Chinese
Americans, who are one of the largest minorities in the Asian community, have a long history,
culture and have faced discrimination in America like many other minorities. The Chinese
Americans history began during the colonial era when many minorities started moving to the U.S.
seeking job opportunities and a better life. Throughout the history they have influenced the country
in many ways and their culture has become a part of the American culture. Also like other
minorities, they have gone through a lot of struggles to make a name for themselves. And through

Vincent Chin was twenty–seven when he got beaten to death by Ronald Edens and Michael Nitz in
1982. The only reason they did that to him was that they saw him as a Japanese person when he is
Chinese. At the time there were problems with the Japanese people and their car business. The
problem is since the auto companies were not upgrading their vehicles people were losing their jobs
but instead of fixing the problem they decided to blame the Japanese because they were doing a
better job than them. So in all of this Vincent Chin who was out for a party ended up died in an
unjust way.

Introduction
Nowadays, we can still feel the existence of racial discrimination. As we all know, Michael Jackson
might be the world's most famous singer who was born in an African–American family with inborn
skin black. Nobody knows why he changed his skin color from black to white. America is a
diversity country, which was built in African–American, Latinos, Asian–American and other
minority groups have been discriminated in many fields, however, these different race always
troubled by the racial discrimination. For example, why black people can not get the better
education, is that just because of the problem of poverty? The racial discrimination is still

sociology in America in the late 19th century and early 20th century. In the late 19th century women
didn't have the same rights as men. When it came to providing for the family only the men could

Women in the workplace get discriminated against due to their gender. There is a sense of them
being "weak" and to nice to lead a group by their male coworkers. Women should be in business to

There are so many different factors that go into the equation of what makes a good employee and a
person's sex shouldn't be one of those. There are women who have managed to battle their way into

written by three authors from Michigan State University called: Settles IH, Pratt–Hyatt JS, and
Buchanan NT. Their goal was to uncover the feelings of Black and White women as they
continuously face sexism and gender–based discrimination at home, at school, and mostly at work.
The participants were described as fourteen blacks and seventeen whites, unlike the first article,
these women were simply given topics that all woman experience and asked to describe their

How many blacks are killed by the police every year in the United States, and how does this affect
people today? Well it depends on who you ask.
Our federal government tries to track this population with databases from the National Vital
Statistics system, which involves coordination between different state health departments, and its

The treatment of the Japanese during WWII is a stain on Americas legacy, one of many which will
never wash away. We were fighting war against Germany because of the treatment of Jews in

better. Historically and presently, when Muslims travel to the United States or live in the US they
face discrimination because of a small number of Islamic extremists take their religion too far.

systems of oppression, and more specifically, racism and sexism. Since its founding, there have
always been groups of people that have been marginalized by the laws and rules that govern

The state of Arizona is even trying to make it legal to detain any individuals if it is thought that they
may be illegally in the U.S. With Arizona's new law, this would call for police officers to check a
person's immigration status while enforcing other laws and require immigrants to prove that they

Workplace discrimination is a problem in America. Some people in America claim that affirmative
action would solve that problem. The UK, India, and Canada already have forms of affirmative

It is an age old caste system that has certain people up a ladder of social classes and that is just apart
of the Indian culture. However, this system has something called quotas in their version of

the world. Our founding Fathers had a vision for this country. A vision of equality. The Preamble to

Discrimination, what is it really all about? Does it still exist in America? The answer is absolutely,
and unfortunately, it will always exist. I feel that this is a term that needs definition because it will
always be controversial in American culture. Discrimination is defined as different treatment of
others based solely on their membership in a socially distinct group or category, such as race,
ethnicity, sex, religion, age, or disability. Discrimination can be viewed as favorable or unfavorable,

This occurred as a result of the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The discrimination
they experienced happened in the more extreme form of segregation by the government. In 1942,
Roosevelt passed an order which led to an estimated 110,000 Japanese Americans on the west coast
to be arrested and placed in camps. This was all due to the mistrust for the Japanese after the attacks

Racial discrimination commonly refers to unfair or unequal behavior upon on individuals due to
their race or ethnicity. Racism has been practiced for decades. Exerting superiority or supremacy
over a race of individuals is the attempt of racial dominance. Despite the increasing population in
the United States, Hispanic Americans find racial discrimination a reality in their lives. Migration
rates have been on a dramatic climb over the past several decades resulting in a significant growth

Ronald Davila also points to another aspect that has caused segregation is the strong belief in family
ties. He explains that it is not uncommon for extended family members to live in the same
household which is a break from the mainstream populations (personal communication, 2010). This
is a traditional value that many attempt to hold on to despite the urbanization. It can be argued that
this traditional value can be seen as segregation as it different from the mainstream and by default
causes isolation from various neighborhoods. Language is another barrier that causes segregation.
Often newly migrated Hispanics retain their native languages. English as the official language in the
United States and teaching Spanish in elementary schools are often debated topics. I personally do
not see what is wrong with learning a second language as a child. Spanish and French were always
the second language options for me growing up and for my child. It is a great way to become
diversified and mesh with the community. There are still some who would prefer not to mesh and

Racism is something that is taught and passed down from generation to generation. If slave owners
always thought of African Americans as property and that they are inferior, then their ancestors
would only be taught the same thing. It is hard to break generational teachings if someone is taught
it. For example, if their parents taught them that all African Americans are dangerous then they will
grow up believing that we are dangerous. If you take a look at members of the Ku Klux Klan a lot of
the members are generational members that have been taught that white people are inferior and no
