Verizon vs Att
Introduction You would not buy a home, car or other large purchases without researching what product offered you the most for your money. The same
is true when investing in a company. Investors do avid research on multiple companies to find what company matches the investors' criteria. In this
paper Team C will research both AT&T and Verizon's financial documents. Team C will compare selected ratios, cash flow and make recommendations
how both companies can manage cash flow for the future. Financial Ratio Analysis Ratio analysis are useful tools when judging the performance of a
company by weighing and evaluating the operating performance (Block–Hirt). There are 13 significant ratios that can separate by four main categories,

Their plans are to continue to throw fiber optic lines that can deliver cable, telephone, and high speed internet. Verizon is still the nation number one
carrier but AT& T is steadily closing in. Cash from operating activities have increased 2 million over the past year while cash from investing activities
has decreased by almost 3 million. Cash from financing activities is negative 6 million. Future Cash Flow The companies are generating cash in what
most individuals would say is a substantial manner however, when looking at each organizations debt load, operating expenses and ratios analysts and
investors can learn that the cash being generated is far less then what both Verizon and AT& T need to earn in order to consider this a substantial
manner for both companies. Both companies in particular Verizon are picking up large amounts of debt however, as they pick up debt both companies
are maintaining a profit. The future of the telecommunication industry is an exciting future. No longer can these companies depend on telephone
service plans to maintain profit. Each company needs to find other avenues, packages and services that can be sold to existing customers while
attracting new customers. The companies

Do Smartphones Increase or Decrease Social Interaction?
Do smartphones increase or decrease social interaction? Samuel Walendowsky English Composition I Mrs. Meinhardt November 25, 2012 Abstract
Everyday more smartphones are sold around the world, nowadays there are about 1 billion smartphones being used in the entire world. Now it is
much easier and faster to share information, experiences, pictures and ideas to everyone. We are getting so used to all of these technologies that soon
we will not be able to live without them anymore. But sometimes people overuse their devices and this can be very dangerous once you may lose all of
your human interaction skills.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Do smartphones help us to have more social interaction or do they make us lose our ability to interact with other people? If you have a smartphone
you can still communicate with a lot of people even being all by yourself. You can text, call, send pictures and videos and much more just by
having a smartphone. And this is not the even main problem. It occurs when you are already with your friends and you still keep using your phone.
Since I do not have a smartphone I started to observe how my friends act while hanging out with each other. Some of them, when using their phones,
completely ignore everyone and everything around them. After doing some research in trying to answer the question whether smartphones help
ours social relations or not, I think I found a suitable answer: The problem is not the smartphone, it is the way people use it. In my point of view,
smartphone users need to be aware of the time they spend using their phone every day. They need to find a point of equilibrium where you can still
enjoy every single feature of the smartphone, but still interact with people who are around. For example, turn off your phone when you have lunch
with your friends or when you are at an event or a party. This would help you to not lose your ability to interact with people personally. When you
privilege the relationships mediated by smartphones we are compromising ours real social skills (Giglio,

The Internet : The Use Of The Internet
The Internet is one of the most powerful tools of the modern age as source of knowledge, entertainment and wealth generation. While a large majority
of the population has no understanding of how the Internet actually works and how the content arrives at their computer they understand its
importance. Scholars, lawyers, lawmakers and advocacy groups have began to worry about who has control of the Internet's content and its distribution.
Net neutrality is the idea that Internet service providers or ISP's should not discriminate against information being sent over the Internet and must treat
all data packets equally regardless of source, type or content. The danger of an Internet without network neutrality is that Internet service providers
would be allowed to limit programs or services the end–user can access. ISP's currently control the "last mile" used to connect to the Internet. The
worry is that Internet service providers will leverage the power to discriminate against companies that are in direct competition or create revenue by
limiting companies that do not pay them a fee (cybertelecom.org, 2009). The American Civil Liberties Union believes,
"Without net neutrality, network providers can block or slow down access to sites they don't like. They can also determine what services and
equipment users can access, dictate whether users are allowed to visit popular chat rooms or play popular games and assign higher fees for popular
downloads." (aclu.org, 2006)
The law must strike a balance between protecting the private rights of Internet service providers to manage their businesses and protecting the public's
interest.
The Internet can be viewed as a series of wires connected by central hubs, known as routers. These routers receive data from individuals or servers sort
and redistribute it appropriately. When demand is relatively low the routers have no problem organizing and distributing this data. The issue arises
when the data becomes overwhelming to the router and the router must start a queuing system much like the line at a checkout counter. This queuing
system is where the issue of net neutrality stems (Felten, 2005) (Wu, 2005).
Those in favor of Net Neutrality believe that the packet should be

AT&T/McCaw Merger Negotiation.
1. What do you believe McCaw is worth? Prepare a careful DCF using the financial forecast of FCFs given in the case and in the associated
spreadsheet. What key assumptions determine the range of high and low values in your valuation analysis? Also draw on any other valuation
approaches and information that you can. For the sake of consistency, all groups should use a (low, "Darden") risk premium of 5.5%.
We performed a DCF Analysis for two scenarios: 1) assuming the purchase of the residual equity of LIN Broadcasting; and 2) assuming the sale of
the residual equity of LIN Broadcasting (See Exhibits 1 & 2). The most critical assumptions impacting value were: 1) discount rate and 2) terminal
growth rate. We relied on discount rates between... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If they keep their place in BOD after the merger, management conflicts may occur
Best alternatives:
* Create own wireless network in PCS sector and start competing with other cellular companies
* Merge with another company which would offer the same growth perspectives in the wireless communication market
* To structure deal as joint venture, which would be an economical approach to entering the market with the access to the technology, cross–marketing
and profits. May bring, however, the lack of control to achieving "Anywhere, Anytime" vision.
3. What risks do AT&T and McCaw face in this proposed merger? Consider a range of transactional, financial and operating risks. What effect do
these risk factors have on the value of McCaw?
Transactional Risk:
* Other bidders can come in the play to preempt the merger
* AT&T should take advantage from slowing down in the merger activity and lower premiums. If negotiations take a long time, situation can reverse,
driving the costs of acquisition up
* To be able to merge, companies need approval from BT which may not want to share the cellular network and lose its chances to capture the US
cellular market itself
* To ensure healthy competition, FCC may delay or prevent the transaction
Financial Risks:
* The merger

Marketing: Yesterday and Today
Marketing by definition is the process of discovering the needs and wants of potential buyers and customers and then providing goods and services
that meet or exceed their expectations. In order for a company to supply a product to the consumer, the company must first determine if there is a need
for their product. Depending on the type of product a company is trying to sell will determine the market they target. For instance, if an automobile
company wants to compete in today 's market they must always try to stay on the cutting edge of technology. By doing this, they are more likely to
come up with a product that will entice customers to want to buy their product. Marketing concept is what many companies have developed to identify

Managers may use something called market segmentation to determine if a target market will be profitable for their company. Market segmentation
is a process of separating, identifying and evaluating the layers of a market in order to design a marketing mix. The five basic types of market
segmentation are: demographic, geographic, psychographic, benefit, and volume. Demographic uses categories such as age, gender, race and social
class while geographic may use regional location and climate. Psychographic studies personality, values and interests, benefit are the benefits the
product may provide and volume is the amount of usage. Once a company has an established market, they look to increase their target market by
doing what is commonly known as marketing research. Marketing research is planning, collecting, and analyzing data relevant to a marketing
decision. If a company is having a marketing problem, the most important thing to do is define and understand what the problem is. If the problem is
not properly defined, it can be the cause of wasted time and money. To discover what customer 's value most, many companies are starting to rely on
innovative technology. For example, decision support system (DD) is an interactive and flexible computerized information system that allows
managers to make decisions quickly and accurately. DDS is commonly used to analyze and forecast sales, evaluate advertising and keep tabs on market

Downsize In The Workplace Case Study
You must develop a plan to downsize 15% of your employee population. Identify the steps you must take.
The first step to take in planning for a downsize in an organization is letting all temporary employees go and then move on to the regular part–time
employees. This is the logical and fair way to handle inevitable layoffs. It is unfortunate for the individuals affected, however, this I the most
reasonable way to handle this issue. Next step would be to ask for any volunteers and advise there will be an incentive involved. This can include
severance pay for a specific amount of time to include accumulated vacation and sick time. Also, it may offer insurance for an extended amount of time

What federal, state, regulatory guidelines must be considered when downsizing?
A determination should be made if the WARN Act applies to the organization and if it does, then adhering to the guidelines set forth in the act. This is
the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, enacted in 1988, requiring employers to provide a 60 days' notice if they employ 100 or
more employees. There are exceptions and circumstances to this act in which the employer should have knowledge of as well. When the WARN Act is
instated for an organization, the representatives of the employees are required to be informed in a timely manner. Consequently, the state or designated
entity by the state and the chief elected official of the local government where the plant closing or mass layoff is occurring are required to be informed
in a timely manner as well (Managing Downsizing by Means of Layoffs, 2015).
The equal employment opportunity laws are to be obeyed by the organization. Some of these laws include the ADEA (AgeDiscrimination in
Employment Act) and the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Each state has law charts that include laws that employers are held accountable to.
It is always beneficial for the organization to obtain legal counsel to ensure that they are following the laws and regulations (Managing Downsizing by

Router and Switches II In Routers and Switches we learned several things such as: what is a Router, why we need Routers, what is the importance
of a Router. We also learned what VLSM is and how to do it and use it. Throughout CCNA we learned how to configure a Router; the different types
of Routing protocols and most importantly what, when and how to use those protocols in the field. Finally I will discuss Switches in how they are
use to set up a LAN. Throughout this paper these topic will be discuss to cover what was learned through class lecture and text book (CCNA study

The most common of the two link state protocols is OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) it is widely used throughout the field (#1) due to it being a
non proprietor protocol as well as its ability to interface with other networks. With OSPF you can group router into small areas and link them
through a back bone when this is done you create the following a back bone router within the area of the back bone there is an area border router
(ABR), ABR must have one interface in each area meaning the back bone and the area trying to link to the back bone, OSPF can also connect to
multiple Autonomous System. When configuring OSPF you must assign a process number in all router within that group must use that same
number, the number can range for 1 to 65,535 you can also have more than one each one will maintain its own separate topology table as well as
manage it independently. There is also distance vectors RIP vs. 1 and 2 (Routing Information Protocol) these work well on small networks, IGRP
(Interior Gateway Routing Protocol) and EIGRP (is the enhanced version of IGRP). The thing about these two meaning IGRP and EIGRP is that they
are proprietary protocols so they only work

History and Workings of Interactive Technology Within Communications Devices
How many times do you check your phone or PDA everyday? Every hour? Half hour? Ten minutes? Most people can't even go one whole day without
their communications devices at the ready. Have you ever stopped and wondered how we even got to this point in the first place? The answer is
growing interactive technology within our communications devices. From gaming, to movies, to buying online products, virtually anything to do with
the consumer can be done from a smart phone or PDA device now. The history and workings of interactive technology has changed communications

When Wireless communication devices first came out you had to reach for the instruction booklet to find out how to hook up your email, connect to
the internet, and ultimately understand how to use the applications within it. But over time companies got smart and started listening to their users
and what they wanted out of their devices. Soon enough, companies where developing user friendly apps that took care of all the hard work and
remembered user inputs to make applications run faster and help the user reach their goal in a shorter amount of time. One big thing that came out in
2008 was videophones and wireless video communication. This was a way to wirelessly record and send video via wireless communications devices.
As Patentdoc (2008) states: "there is provided a first portable communication device for communicating with a second portable communication device,
the first portable communication device including a communication module for transmitting and receiving video and audio information" This was the
main summary of the invention and the reason why sites like YouTube and Facebook thrive largely today on communications devices. Social media
has become a big part of communications devices because these social media sites are ways to communicate with the world all at once. What better

Ns The National Security Agency
"USA Today confirms: the National Security Agency has been secretly collecting the phone call records of tens of millions of Americans, using data
provided by AT&T, Verizon and BellSouth. With access to records of billions of domestic calls, the NSA has gained a secret window into the
communications habits of millions of Americans." (Opsahl 28 Sep. 2013) It's no secret that the U.S. government agency known as the NSA, National
Security Agency, has been monitoring phone calls and Internet usage ofUnited States citizens since the early 2000's during George W. Bush's time in
office. During his presidency, Bush authorized the motorization of millions of citizen's phone calls. (Tebbutt 25 Sep. 2013) The NSA created a
secret program called "The Highlander Program" which was designed to monitor satellite phone transmissions on the Inmarsat network in the Middle
East. During this secret program, the NSA did not monitor any United States citizens. Bush claimed the surveillance was limited to the al Qaeda, but
that simply was not the case. (Forgang 27 Sep. 2013) Does the United States government have the right to listen in on civilian's phone calls regardless
of the reason? As seen in the media, most citizens don't want the NSA to be listening in on their calls and other forms of communication. In Samuel

Here is the Zach Johnson swing analysis that you should take into account and apply it, in order to play golf like a professional. The first detail that you
will notice is that Johnson sets up with the golf ball lined up significantly off the toe of the club. He does that partially due to his impact position.
Then, the next detail you need to look at is his often spoke about grip. You will see that he actually grips the club in a particularly strong position.
There are many people who would associate this procedure with a leftward miss. However, there is one important thing that Zach constantly works
on, and that it is the fact that he matches his release up to this grip, and other positions up with how he will actually release his club. As Johnson
takes the club away from the golf ball, you will see that the club face is in a slightly shut position. It is like that due to his exceptionally strong grip.
He also has very little lateral movement on both the backswing and follow through. It is highly recommended to also have a close look at his head
and his hips as well. You will notice that they stay perfectly in line with each other on the backswing in

Consultants. At this time, APPEX had only been founded 2 years ago and was still manageable, althoughmanagement had only loose control by
choice. In 1998, APPEX employed a manageable 25 people and brought in 2 million dollars in revenue. According to the case, only 2 years later it

I also deduct that there were "people issues" within the corporation. Like al companies, employees like to know what is going on and depending on the
situation, may even have input that is valuable to the company's success. Because of all the changes and people movement within APPEX, there was
not a well known flow of information through management. This is another result of the broken management structure.
Situations like this are a breeding ground for false information and distrust between the employees and the company, leading to employee dissent.
The Management: Upper management was fully aware that there was a problem within the organization structure, but was unable to spend ample
time dealing with it in part due to the constant "firefighting". In essence, they dug their own hole and never got a chance to climb their way out.
According to Morgan in the book Images of Organization, there are 5 simple principles that management could have used to "shape up" the
organization. 1) Shift the responsibility of the organization of work from the worker to the manager. The employees were never fully aware of what
needed to be done or who was working on what. There needed to be a central source or organization. 2) Use
Scientific Methods to determine the most efficient ways of doing work. APPEX could

Smartphones Have Changed The Technological World
Smartphones Smartphones have changed the technological world. With the invention of the smartphone, the world was able changed the way people
communicate; it has even help developed other technologies like the iPads. The most popular mobile device is the smartphones with functions like a
mobile operating system capable of running different applications similar to a computer. Smartphones have always been interesting topic to talk about
especially when they have been around since 1992.
The early version of the smartphone was first developed by IBM and BellSouth and was called Simon. The Simon was the right step into
technology, it had the features of a phone were you could call but also had a data service. The best feature you see in the Simon was the
touchscreen that would later be used in the modern smartphone. Other features would include apps, PDA and a fax machine, a feature widely used
during that time. Some of the apps that were already downloaded to the phone were address book, calculator, calendar, filer, mail, note pad,
sketchpad, time, and to do; very similar to apps we see in the smartphones today. The biggest problem with the Simon was the price, it was around 900
to 600 dollars and the only people with money could buy or big corporations.
The Invention of the Simon lead to the creation of the Nokia 9110 communicator in 1999. The Nokia 9110 had a 4.5" screen, 640x200 pixels. It
weighed 253 grams and was 27mm thick. While this phone still didn't have the ability

WhatВґs Net Neutrality?
Every day a copious amount of people including myself use the Internet daily. We use it to e–mail, complete college work, stream videos on Netflix and
YouTube, and talk to others through Skype. Yet sometimes we may encounter slow speeds when streaming videos or voice and video chatting. Slow
speeds stem from Internet Service Providers (ISP) slowing these services down because they require too much bandwidth or because another
company pays the ISP for superior service over their competitors. Thus creating the problem of consumers wanting fast speeds for all services they
use and ISP's slowing services down despite consumer desire. I believe Internet services should all operate at decent speeds so I will resolve the
problem of throttled services through Net Neutrality.
The dilemma between customer's and ISP's perspectives on Internet speeds is known as the concept of Net Neutrality. Kenneth Laudon, a professor at
New York University, defines Net... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sharp states that despite the fears of Net Neutrality destroying competition and deterring investments Net Neutrality does not prevent ISP's from
offering tiered Internet plans at competitive prices nor does it deter investment especially after the AT&T and BellSouth merger gained investors even
while the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) required the company to run a non–discriminatory network (Sharp, 2009). Therefore, the
objections against Net Neutrality do not make much sense when it only calls for fair speed for all Internet content. Alan Joch, a writer for
Communications of the ACM, even mentions that Net Neutrality can produce "a safer Net world where regulations would constrain anti–competitive
practices, such as unfair pricing by ISPs that compete with providers of online movie–on–demand services" (Joch, 2009, p. 14). That being the case Net
Neutrality also will prevent any "fast lane" fees or exclusive deals for Internet content providers with

Edward Snowden Violations
The violations of privacy weren't limited to online hacking only. The reports shared by Edward Snowden revealed that not only all our internet usage
is monitored but also that all our phones records are being analyzed and stored. According to the New York Times, the NSA obtains a secret court
orders that requires companies to provide their phone records. Telecom giants such as Verizon and 450 others worldwide were deeply affected by this.
Although, if a court order wasn't granted, these high intelligence institutions gave themselves the authority and the right to hack into these companies'
servers in order to obtain the data needed. (Savage, Weisman, 2015) According to the Guardian, the NSA "been secretly collecting the phone call

The novel describes a regime where people are under constant surveillance and we how such life norms affected the society as a whole because of the
privacy invasion. Starting with Edward Snowden who can easily be compared to the main character in 1984, Wilson. These two rebels worked for
something close to "state security" and were both disgusted by what the government was doing. Therefore, they decided to fight against corrupted
systems and reclaim people their rights. Snowden leaked many important information as a form of attack against the government. Meanwhile,
Wilson tried to defy the system and be a rebel by writing a diary and practicing many illegal activities, although he was caught and brainwashed
which is an aspect that cannot be compared to Snowden who is still on the run. When it comes to the surveillance, we see that nowadays,
governments are using technology in order to invade people's privacy which was also used in Oceania. "The Phrase Big Brother is watching you"
(Orwell, 1984) can be portrayed nowadays as the NSA or any other governmental institution that is in fact putting people under constant surveillance.
These corrupted agencies are using smart phones as a spying tool by hacking into them and even accessing the phone's camera sometimes. In 1984,
this method of surveillance was demonstrated as telescreens constantly watching the people and telling them what to do. "The telescreen received
and transmitted simultaneously. Any sound Winston made, above the level of a very low whisper, would be picked up by it; moreover, so long as
he remained within the field of vision which the metal plaque commanded, he could be seen as well as heard." (Orwell, Book 1, Chapter 1) This
shows the similarity between today's situation and the life in Oceania. People being kept under surveillance as a method of manipulation and to

Differences Between AT & T And Directv Merger
AT&T and DirecTV Merger AT&T recently acquired DirecTV after the latter's shareholders voted to endorse the acquisition or merger. The
acquisition was first endorsed by the boards of these companies in May 2014 before being subjected to a review by anti–trust regulators in the
Department of Justice and Federal Communications Commission (England–Nelson, 2014). The approval of the acquisition would result in the merger
of the country's largest wireless carrier with the biggest satellite TV provider in the country. The merger between these two firms is geared towards
creation of a leading content provider across various platforms i.e. video, mobile, and broadband services. However, the acquisition was influenced by
various factors and is associated with several significant effects in light of the organizational structure.
Circumstances Resulting in the Acquisition As previously mentioned, the acquisition ofAT&Tand DirecTV was recently approved by the boards of
both companies. The deal implied that the AT&T would have to pay the shareholders of DirecTV $95 per share as well as the company's debt that
would make the total transaction value to amount to $67.1 billion. The acquisition or merger between these two companies was fueled by various
factors that were geared towards creating one company that will be strategically positioned to accomplish significant incremental growth. The growth

Oligopoly: Monopoly and Demand Curve
An oligopoly describes a market situation in which there are limited or few sellers. Each seller knows that the other seller or sellers will react to its
changes in prices and also quantities. This can cause a type of chain reaction in a market situation. In the world market there are oligopolies in steel
production, automobiles, semi–conductor manufacturing, cigarettes, cereals, and also in telecommunications. Often times oligopolistic industries
supply a similar or identical product. These companies tend to maximize their profits by forming a cartel and acting like a monopoly. A cartel is an

telecommunications company. This deal brings together the second and third largest long distance carriers in the U.S. with an estimated annual

AT & T Wireless At & T Merger Case
Framework
On February 18, 2004, Cingular Wireless announced that it would buy AT&T Wireless Services, Inc.(AT&T Wireless) for an estimated $41 billion
dollars. The announcement came after an intense four days negotiation between Cingular Wireless, its rival, Vodafone Group PLC of Britain
(Vodafone) andAT&TWireless. The merger would not have happened if Cingular Wireless didn't make a last ditch effort into the late hours of the
night before the deadline that was set by AT&T Wireless. With the final bid, Cingular Wireless snatched AT&T Wireless away from Vodafone.

Examples Of American Surveillance In 1984 By George Orwell
U.S. Surveillance Affecting Civil Liberties
Many Americans are being watched, in great detail, by the government. In its ongoing battle against crime and terrorism, the U.S. has ramped up its
surveillance on individuals over the years. As in the book, 1984, by George Orwell, "Big Brother Is Watching You". Many people feel that this
surveillance is a major invasion of privacy and a violation of their rights. The USA PATRIOT Actwas rushed through Congress 45 days after the 9/11
terrorist attacks. It stands for "Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism", and
extremely broadens the authority of U.S. law enforcement to conduct investigations. Agencies can conduct a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

helping her, the girl slipped something into his hand."(Orwell 115–116) Even Winston and Julia, two completely unsuspected people (at the time) must
go through an elaborate incident just to exchange a message, for they were being watched. In the U.S. almost everyone who has detailed data
collected from them are not suspected of any crime or wrongdoing. This is the major cause of the disapproval of the NSA and the PATRIOT Act, by
most U.S. citizens. Many people feel that the government agencies misuse their power. Some citizens question whether or not the government is
legally allowed to do some of what they do regarding surveillance. Due to the PATRIOT Act, federal investigators can obtain a wide variety of
information without formal court proceedings, which are normally required. "A congressional investigation revealed that the NSA had been illegally
intercepting international communications for more than 20 years, but no action was taken against the NSA to penalize them or prevent this from
happening again."(Cauley) "Twenty–five years ago, if someone had said the

that debt they have been able to increase their net profit margin, helping the company in the way of earnings. The strong price to earnings ratio of 20.89

The Importance Of Alumni Center
The area of interest for the new alumni center encompasses the Chapel Theater, Treasury Building, the former Starbucks, the FedEx building, and a
parking lot. Each structure is relatively small (no more than two stories in height) with the larger buildings (Chapel and Fedex) consisting primarily of
brick. In addition, the former Starbucks and Treasury have a weathered, aged appearance reminiscent of many historic buildings in downtown
Charleston. Combined with the surrounding vegetation and iconic palmetto trees, these buildings give an atmosphere to the property that reflects the
historic ambiance of Charleston. However, the parking lot side of the property facing St. Philip Street does not share the same atmosphere since it is

In order to determine the history of the property and find out more about the buildings that occupied the lot in the past, we consulted the Charleston
County Public Library's historic resources for the area. The Vertical File and Sandborn maps stated that the lot previously served as a location for
Carolina Savings Bank. The branch had a drive–in window and a parking area in the rear of the building. The branch had a night depository, safety
deposit boxes and other banking facilities that were relatively new ideas when the building was constructed in the 1950's. The 3000 square–foot
building was a one story Colonial Style structure constructed of old Charleston Brick and had a rear entrance decorated with wrought iron and a
flagstone tile floor. The general design was in keeping with old Charleston architecture. We believe that incorporating design elements such as the old
Charleston brick into the new Alumni center will help reinforce the "historic Charleston" atmosphere of the surrounding area and provide a link to the
area's past. Adjacent to the building site are two larger buildings: The College of Charleston Bellsouth building (a five story building) and Maybank
Hall (a three story building). On site, the Chapel Theater, the old Babybucks building and the current Treasury Office closely surround the space we
intend to build upon. We plan to keep these smaller standing structures, as they are important

Cell Phones Are Ordinary Today
Cell phones are ordinary today. Very nearly everybody has one. My grandma conveys an iPhone and my dad– a man who once swore he 'd never
convey a telephone with him anyplace – slaps a Samsung Galaxy S III with an OtterBox case on his hip each morning. It wasn 't generally so. I was
the main individual at my secondary school – educators and organization included – with a cell phone. To start with, I had the Moto Q, then the
BlackBerry Pearl 8130, trailed by the Curve 8330. Furthermore, that is the place my story started, in 2006, taking lesson notes (read: playing Brick
Breaker and Asteroids) on an incredible QWERTY console about a large portion of the palm 's extent of my hand. Trust it or not, cell phone history
backtracks over 10 years before that. Things were ... intriguing in those days. In the first place, what is a cell phone? Turns out, the real definition,
regardless of the source, is very ambiguous. Merriam–Webster compactly calls a cell phone "a PDA that incorporates extra programming capacities
(as email or an Internet program)." Oxford Dictionaries, then again, gets somewhat more exact by saying a cell phone "has the capacity perform a
hefty portion of the elements of a PC, commonly having a moderately expansive screen and a working framework equipped for running universally
useful applications." In any case, there is an almost negligible difference between what is and isn 't a cell phone nowadays, regardless of the fact that

Verizon Vs Att

  • 1. Verizon vs Att Introduction You would not buy a home, car or other large purchases without researching what product offered you the most for your money. The same is true when investing in a company. Investors do avid research on multiple companies to find what company matches the investors' criteria. In this paper Team C will research both AT&T and Verizon's financial documents. Team C will compare selected ratios, cash flow and make recommendations how both companies can manage cash flow for the future. Financial Ratio Analysis Ratio analysis are useful tools when judging the performance of a company by weighing and evaluating the operating performance (Block–Hirt). There are 13 significant ratios that can separate by four main categories, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their plans are to continue to throw fiber optic lines that can deliver cable, telephone, and high speed internet. Verizon is still the nation number one carrier but AT& T is steadily closing in. Cash from operating activities have increased 2 million over the past year while cash from investing activities has decreased by almost 3 million. Cash from financing activities is negative 6 million. Future Cash Flow The companies are generating cash in what most individuals would say is a substantial manner however, when looking at each organizations debt load, operating expenses and ratios analysts and investors can learn that the cash being generated is far less then what both Verizon and AT& T need to earn in order to consider this a substantial manner for both companies. Both companies in particular Verizon are picking up large amounts of debt however, as they pick up debt both companies are maintaining a profit. The future of the telecommunication industry is an exciting future. No longer can these companies depend on telephone service plans to maintain profit. • 2. Do Smartphones Increase or Decrease Social Interaction? Do smartphones increase or decrease social interaction? Samuel Walendowsky English Composition I Mrs. Meinhardt November 25, 2012 Abstract Everyday more smartphones are sold around the world, nowadays there are about 1 billion smartphones being used in the entire world. Now it is much easier and faster to share information, experiences, pictures and ideas to everyone. We are getting so used to all of these technologies that soon we will not be able to live without them anymore. But sometimes people overuse their devices and this can be very dangerous once you may lose all of your human interaction skills.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Do smartphones help us to have more social interaction or do they make us lose our ability to interact with other people? If you have a smartphone you can still communicate with a lot of people even being all by yourself. You can text, call, send pictures and videos and much more just by having a smartphone. And this is not the even main problem. It occurs when you are already with your friends and you still keep using your phone. Since I do not have a smartphone I started to observe how my friends act while hanging out with each other. Some of them, when using their phones, completely ignore everyone and everything around them. After doing some research in trying to answer the question whether smartphones help ours social relations or not, I think I found a suitable answer: The problem is not the smartphone, it is the way people use it. In my point of view, smartphone users need to be aware of the time they spend using their phone every day. They need to find a point of equilibrium where you can still enjoy every single feature of the smartphone, but still interact with people who are around. For example, turn off your phone when you have lunch with your friends or when you are at an event or a party. This would help you to not lose your ability to interact with people personally. When you privilege the relationships mediated by smartphones we are compromising ours real social skills (Giglio, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Internet : The Use Of The Internet The Internet is one of the most powerful tools of the modern age as source of knowledge, entertainment and wealth generation. While a large majority of the population has no understanding of how the Internet actually works and how the content arrives at their computer they understand its importance. Scholars, lawyers, lawmakers and advocacy groups have began to worry about who has control of the Internet's content and its distribution. Net neutrality is the idea that Internet service providers or ISP's should not discriminate against information being sent over the Internet and must treat all data packets equally regardless of source, type or content. The danger of an Internet without network neutrality is that Internet service providers would be allowed to limit programs or services the end–user can access. ISP's currently control the "last mile" used to connect to the Internet. The worry is that Internet service providers will leverage the power to discriminate against companies that are in direct competition or create revenue by limiting companies that do not pay them a fee (cybertelecom.org, 2009). The American Civil Liberties Union believes, "Without net neutrality, network providers can block or slow down access to sites they don't like. They can also determine what services and equipment users can access, dictate whether users are allowed to visit popular chat rooms or play popular games and assign higher fees for popular downloads." (aclu.org, 2006) The law must strike a balance between protecting the private rights of Internet service providers to manage their businesses and protecting the public's interest. The Internet can be viewed as a series of wires connected by central hubs, known as routers. These routers receive data from individuals or servers sort and redistribute it appropriately. When demand is relatively low the routers have no problem organizing and distributing this data. The issue arises when the data becomes overwhelming to the router and the router must start a queuing system much like the line at a checkout counter. This queuing system is where the issue of net neutrality stems (Felten, 2005) (Wu, 2005). Those in favor of Net Neutrality believe that the packet should be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What key assumptions determine the range of high and low values in your valuation analysis? Also draw on any other valuation approaches and information that you can. For the sake of consistency, all groups should use a (low, "Darden") risk premium of 5.5%. We performed a DCF Analysis for two scenarios: 1) assuming the purchase of the residual equity of LIN Broadcasting; and 2) assuming the sale of the residual equity of LIN Broadcasting (See Exhibits 1 & 2). • 6. Marketing: Yesterday and Today Marketing by definition is the process of discovering the needs and wants of potential buyers and customers and then providing goods and services that meet or exceed their expectations. In order for a company to supply a product to the consumer, the company must first determine if there is a need for their product. Depending on the type of product a company is trying to sell will determine the market they target. For instance, if an automobile company wants to compete in today 's market they must always try to stay on the cutting edge of technology. By doing this, they are more likely to come up with a product that will entice customers to want to buy their product. Marketing concept is what many companies have developed to identify ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Managers may use something called market segmentation to determine if a target market will be profitable for their company. Market segmentation is a process of separating, identifying and evaluating the layers of a market in order to design a marketing mix. The five basic types of market segmentation are: demographic, geographic, psychographic, benefit, and volume. Demographic uses categories such as age, gender, race and social class while geographic may use regional location and climate. Psychographic studies personality, values and interests, benefit are the benefits the product may provide and volume is the amount of usage. Once a company has an established market, they look to increase their target market by doing what is commonly known as marketing research. Marketing research is planning, collecting, and analyzing data relevant to a marketing decision. If a company is having a marketing problem, the most important thing to do is define and understand what the problem is. If the problem is not properly defined, it can be the cause of wasted time and money. To discover what customer 's value most, many companies are starting to rely on innovative technology. The first step to take in planning for a downsize in an organization is letting all temporary employees go and then move on to the regular part–time employees. This is the logical and fair way to handle inevitable layoffs. It is unfortunate for the individuals affected, however, this I the most reasonable way to handle this issue. Smartphones have always been interesting topic to talk about especially when they have been around since 1992. The early version of the smartphone was first developed by IBM and BellSouth and was called Simon. We use it to e–mail, complete college work, stream videos on Netflix and YouTube, and talk to others through Skype. Yet sometimes we may encounter slow speeds when streaming videos or voice and video chatting. Slow speeds stem from Internet Service Providers (ISP) slowing these services down because they require too much bandwidth or because another company pays the ISP for superior service over their competitors. Thus creating the problem of consumers wanting fast speeds for all services they use and ISP's slowing services down despite consumer desire. I believe Internet services should all operate at decent speeds so I will resolve the problem of throttled services through Net Neutrality. The Communications Act of 1934, as amended (the "Communications Act"), and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations and policies also significantly impact Comcast's decision on the company's businesses, including cable system and broadcast station ownership, video services customer rates, carriage of broadcast television stations, broadcast programming content and advertising, package of programming to customers and other providers, access to cable system channels by franchising authorities and other parties, the use of utility poles and conduits, and the offering of high–speed internet and phone services (Marketline, 2013). Failure of Comcast's businesses to comply with the laws and regulations may result in administrative enforcement actions, fines and civil and criminal liability. • 26. Examples Of American Surveillance In 1984 By George Orwell U.S. Surveillance Affecting Civil Liberties Many Americans are being watched, in great detail, by the government. In its ongoing battle against crime and terrorism, the U.S. has ramped up its surveillance on individuals over the years. As in the book, 1984, by George Orwell, "Big Brother Is Watching You". Many people feel that this surveillance is a major invasion of privacy and a violation of their rights. The USA PATRIOT Actwas rushed through Congress 45 days after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. It stands for "Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism", and extremely broadens the authority of U.S. law enforcement to conduct investigations. In the U.S. almost everyone who has detailed data collected from them are not suspected of any crime or wrongdoing. This is the major cause of the disapproval of the NSA and the PATRIOT Act, by most U.S. citizens. Many people feel that the government agencies misuse their power. Some citizens question whether or not the government is legally allowed to do some of what they do regarding surveillance. Due to the PATRIOT Act, federal investigators can obtain a wide variety of information without formal court proceedings, which are normally required. "A congressional investigation revealed that the NSA had been illegally intercepting international communications for more than 20 years, but no action was taken against the NSA to penalize them or prevent this from happening again."(Cauley) "Twenty–five years ago, if someone had said the ... In addition, the former Starbucks and Treasury have a weathered, aged appearance reminiscent of many historic buildings in downtown Charleston. In order to determine the history of the property and find out more about the buildings that occupied the lot in the past, we consulted the Charleston County Public Library's historic resources for the area. The Vertical File and Sandborn maps stated that the lot previously served as a location for Carolina Savings Bank. The branch had a drive–in window and a parking area in the rear of the building. The branch had a night depository, safety deposit boxes and other banking facilities that were relatively new ideas when the building was constructed in the 1950's. The 3000 square–foot building was a one story Colonial Style structure constructed of old Charleston Brick and had a rear entrance decorated with wrought iron and a flagstone tile floor. The general design was in keeping with old Charleston architecture. We believe that incorporating design elements such as the old Charleston brick into the new Alumni center will help reinforce the "historic Charleston" atmosphere of the surrounding area and provide a link to the area's past. Adjacent to the building site are two larger buildings: The College of Charleston Bellsouth building (a five story building) and Maybank Hall (a three story building). Trust it or not, cell phone history backtracks over 10 years before that. Things were ... intriguing in those days. In the first place, what is a cell phone? Turns out, the real definition, regardless of the source, is very ambiguous. Merriam–Webster compactly calls a cell phone "a PDA that incorporates extra programming capacities (as email or an Internet program)." Oxford Dictionaries, then again, gets somewhat more exact by saying a cell phone "has the capacity perform a hefty portion of the elements of a PC, commonly having a moderately expansive screen and a working framework equipped for running universally useful applications."
