The Sinus Node
The Sinus node is a small bundle of specialised cells located in the right atrium of the which
generates an impulse in the heart. The electrical activity spreads through the walls of the atria and
causes them to contract. This forces blood into the ventricles, which sets the rate and rhythm of the
heartbeat. A pacemaker is needed to maintain an adequate heart rate, either because the heart's
natural pacemaker – sinus node – is not fast enough or there is a block in the heart's conduction
system.

Utilities in the US and GIS
GIS is critical to the utilities industry in the US. It allows them to perform mundane tasks that they
are required to perform with new levels of ROI (return on investment), safety, and man–hour
efficiency. It also allows them to save the taxpayer a substantial sum of money yearly, and also the
ability to remain profitable while billing for less. In this paper, I will first discuss some of the basic
ways that the utilities industry in the US is using GIS to achieving all of these things, then into each
part of the electrical utilities industry and then delve into some of the more technical items used by
the industry and their function within the industry as a whole. Geography, as defined in the
Cambridge dictionary is " the study of features and systems of the earth's surface, including
continents, mountains, seas, weather, and plant life, and of the ways in which countries and people
organize life within an area."(3) Therefore, I think it is important to define the history of electricity
to give perspective, and its physical properties on a smaller scale to help understand larger concepts
from a power engineering perspective. Unfortunately, there is a lot of relevant information to cover
before GIS is brought into fruition.

the length of a fiber.
It increases resiliency, bulk, warmth, elongation, absorbency, and skin comfort. Makes the hand
harsher and luster is reduced as crimp increase. Allows the fiber to stand off the skin so fabric will
not cling to the wearer 's skin. Also helps make the fiber able to withstand being bent back on itself
many times without breaking.
6. How does fiber absorbency affect the properties of a textile? Absorbency affects: skin comfort,
static build–up, dimensional stability in water, stain removal, water repellency, and wrinkle
recovery.
7. What is pilling? Why is it more apparent on some fibers than on others? Pilling is the formation
of groups of short or broken fibers on the surface of a fabric that are tangled together into tiny balls
(pills).
More apparent on hydrophobic fibers because their fibers have greater electrical static attraction for

These include many easily recognizable phenomena, such as lightning and static electricity, but in
addition, less familiar concepts, such as the electromagnetic field and electromagnetic induction.
4. Electricity sources
People have been trying to solve the electricity issue when faced with an acute shortage of
electricity, so every country wants to increase power production in all possible ways. The most
prolific source of electric energy are the nuclear power plants, but the risk of a catastrophic event,
such as Chernobyl in 1986, makes people think twice before accepting this kind of energy source.
Of course there are other ways of acquiring electrical energy, called alternative sources of energy.
Wind energy, solar energy, sea waves energy are the latest resources, but the technology for them is
still developing so they can be used only in a few countries. There are many reasons we are looking
towards alternative energy sources. With many countries, and US cities, signing the Kyoto Treaty,
efforts to reduce pollutants and greenhouse gases are a primary focus in today's culture. Alternative,
or renewable energy, sources show significant promise in helping to reduce the amount of toxins
that are by–products of energy use. Not only do they protect against harmful by–products, but using
alternative energy helps to preserve many of the natural resources that we
