2. CADSTI-UK STEM TALKS
• CADSTI-UK will be delivering a series of STEM Talks given by successful Caribbean
professionals.
• These Talks will present Caribbean professionals as role models to the Caribbean
community within the UK and showcase the power of mastering STEM (Science,
Technology, Engineering and Maths).
• The first of these talks was delivered by Andrew Phillips – internationally recognized
Head of Biological Computation at Microsoft Research. Andrew received a coveted
TR35 award in 2011 for his innovative work. The award was previously awarded to
Larry Page and Sergey Brin (founders of Google) and Mark Zuckerberg (creator of
Facebook), among others.
• This event will be supported by the Barbados High Commission and offers the
Corporates opportunity to celebrate Caribbean achievement in STEM with CADSTI-UK.

4. STRUCTURE OF THE TALK
Atalk about should last about 40 minutes followed by a 20-minutes Q&A
session.
A suggested structure for the talk would be as follows:
(1) Introduction about yourself (who you are, where you came from, key
achievements)
(2) What do you do? How do you it?
(3) How is technology (in a broad sense) impacting your work? How is your
work impacting technology? Consider the impact of the technology on
the wider society and Caribbean communities in particular
(4) Advice to aspiring [young] people who may be interested in this field
(5) Q&A session (~20 min)
