Satirizing News Shows
In recent years, political comedies, especially those satirizing news programs, have risen in
popularity. Shows like The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Last Week Tonight, and The Nightly
Show have had a huge impact on mainstream America. Because of their comedic nature, these
shows can get away with addressing taboo topics in opinionated manners. Furthermore, their
audiences are less likely to be defensive because their message is displayed in a humorous way.
Therefore, these programs have a significant amount of power when it comes to influencing the
political sphere. Serious news networks often cover topics that are safe. Reporters try to avoid
controversy by not addressing controversial topics or by removing anything possibly offensive.
Thus, even if touchy topics shown, no revolutionary viewpoints are shared. Satirical news programs,
on the other hand, follow no such guidelines. They can address topics such as transgender rights, the
death penalty, and police brutality. Unlike other reporters, comedians feel no such need to represent
both sides of an argument. In topics like climate change, parody news shows do not represent the

Their websites are full of click bait and their reporters are paid based on how much traffic an article
gets. Because of this, topics that may seem dull are passed over for CNN's 24/7 reporting on the lost
Malaysian airliners. Yet, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver's YouTube channel can rack up over
3.5 million views for a video about food waste and nearly 4 million views on a segment covering the
need for camera footage of Supreme Court cases. Since all of his reports are in comedic in manner,
audiences are not put off by the seemingly dull subject matter. Thus, satirical news programs are less
restricted and have more autonomy when choosing a topic to

Jon Stewart : America 's Politics And Pop Culture
In America, Jon Stewart popularized satirical news shows for Generation Y and Millenials, helping
bridge the gap between more traditional news outlets like print newspaper and primetime news
programming, with a more youthful Comedy Central–produced program that could be accessed on
all mediums, including digital and mobile platforms. While in Europe, I was shocked by the amount
of young Europeans that new of Jon Stewart and regularly watched his television program online in
their home countries. Much of what they knew about America's politics and pop culture came from
Jon Stewart's The Daily Show, and some countries like the Netherlands even tried to create their
own version of the program. Stewart presented complicated American politics ... Show more content

In a sense, the outside pressures can censor a person's opinion as that person will be held to said
opinion for as long as it is remembered. In modern day the ease of consuming news makes it so that
the media relays the news of the day to information–seeking Americans, creating few major news
channels to inform the masses, often with a political slant. Jon Stewart's role as a political satirist
and news host becomes crucial when placed against the major powers of CNN, MSNBC, and Fox
News.
Jon Stewart began as host of The Daily Show on Comedy Central in 1998, about two years after
Craig Kilborn had hosted it. He would continue hosting until announcing his retirement in 2015.
Over his years as host, Stewart saw the switch in the media platforms Americans used to access their
news, with more Americans switching to a digital platform, such as the 44 percent of Americans that
used the Internet and mobile devices. Despite this switch in platforms, Americans in the 2000s spent
just as much time as those in the mid–1990s at actually ingesting news, where the latter relied on
more traditional platforms like primetime television and print newspapers.
Public Figure & Government Scrutinization In the modern day, it is a common practice for political
satirists to note the move in the ideologies of the modern day Democratic and, more particularly,
Republican parties. As Bill Maher, host of the left–leaning show Real

Dean Takahashi's assert reveals the interview between himself (VentureBeat) and Pixars' supervising
animator Scott Clark. During the interview, Scott Clark discusses about how complex animation has
become over time from how animation used to be completed fifteen or so years ago and how this
new technology takes animations to a whole new level, referring to their most recent film, Monsters
University. The tools of technology has become "a big fancy pencil" said Clark. Even though there
are dozens of new tools animators use in this time, there are still tools we use that were created
almost 20 years ago. As technology advances, work becomes a little faster but still takes the patience
trait needed. Takahashi asks Clark about having an army to create these films. Clark responds that as
films get richer and complex, such as with more characters, that it pretty much takes an army to
complete the film. Each person is hand animating something.

What Makes a Monster Essay
What Makes a Monster?
Monsters are often thought of as green, abnormally large and scary. They are believed to hide in
dark shadows and forgotten street corners. Monsters have a bad reputation and the very nature of the
term monster is not smiled upon. I believe these thoughts are generic and relics of a much safer past.
In our morally bankrupt society monsters exist in the realist scariest form. As we step into adulthood
and take our heads out of the comic books that shows us the danger of the Green Goblin we must
now be alerted the real demons. Adolf Hitler killed thousands upon thousands of people. His
persona and legacy can only be thought of as sick and sadistic. Adolf Hitler did by himself what
would take an entire army of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This lead to a total DNA change that turned him into a huge psychotic lizard. Peter Parker who had
been bit by a radio active spider was now on a search to rediscover who he really is and only at the
age of sixteen. If Stan Lee's classic comic was meant to teach us anything it was meant to teach us
that we have a choice. Peter Parker a low income orphan, who was bullied and weak used his
powers to become a hero. Osborne decided other wise. Using not Spiderman, but Peter Parker as my
last explain I would like to show you that what makes a monster is more than the struggle for power
as I earlier stated. It is the choice we make with that power whether it is given to us or taken.
In conclusion I want to provide you with a few points of clarity. Power did not make Adolf Hitler a
monster. Self–love, greed, and ill convinced passion made Hitler the monster history remembers him
as. Passions gone wrong made Dr. Osborne into an actual scaly green monster he became. Passion
may have drove these men to extreme lengths, but their bad choices made them monsters. Good
thing that in every comic, movie, and history book, there is always a few Peter Parkers' to save the
day. You can not have the bad guys with out the

The World Of The East Coast Of Massachusetts
The rooms were confined to themselves by a large metal door with a small slot about 5 feet from the
floor that could only be opened from the outside. The walls were once a brilliant white, but now
filled with the scratch marks and blood stains from the ones before me. The room stench of urine,
most likely from the other patients. All there was in the room was a small cot with a mattress so thin,
it almost looked as if it was a thin piece of plywood. As I laid there strapped to my bed by leather
restraints that were made to "protect" me from myself, I kept pondering on the question "what did I
do to deserve to be locked up in a place like this?" Then I remember my crime, and smile. This

periodic routine I followed: Eat breakfast with the other patients, take my morning pills, be given an
hour of electroconvulsive therapy, swig down more pills, then listen to music for an hour or two and
finally be tested by the nurses there. A very basic routine, one that I very easily got in the habit of
following. Being a young man, the age of 24 at the time, I tried to keep to myself most of the time
and did not associate with the other patients for they were too decrepitated and insane for my
likings. On the fiftieth day I was at the mental institution, my usual routine abruptly was broken. I

workers walked into my room with the director of the hospital, Dr. James Roxton. Dr. Roxton, a
very serious man, was in a furious manner and screamed at me "In all this time since you've been in
my care, you have not improved! Not even the slightest! It is time to escalate your therapy." "What
are you going to do..." I was saying as they ripped me away from the old cassette player in my

Analysis Of There Will Come Soft Rains
The text, There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury tells the story of a robotically controlled
house left standing in a post–apocalyptic world. Every day, life continues as normal for the house
until it meets the same fate of "death" as it catches on fire and burns to the ground, leaving only one
voice behind.
This story made me think about how, even though you may not be there, time still passes on and
does not stop for anybody. Throughout the text, it continues to refer to the time of day it is, and
elaborates on how the day is progressing, like one of the first lines, "Tick–tock, seven o'clock, time
to get up, time to get up, seven o'clock!" Everything, apart from the fact there is nobody around,
seems completely normal, and a routine is still kept in place. The house continues on as if what's
going on is completely normal, as it knows no different from what it has been programmed to do.
The writer makes me think about how we need to make the most of our time on our Earth. We never
know when our last day will be, and our lives are honestly quite fleeting. I personally know that I
don't like or enjoy coming out of the routine I have set for myself on a day to day basis, although
this makes a lot of my days feel the same in an overall sense. The message about how time won't,
and can't, stop for anybody, and how life is so fragile, makes me think about how, maybe, I am not
living to my fullest potential. This is the case for a lot of other people as well, and is a wide

Exploring Biographical Knowledge Into The Daily Routine...
The focus of this study was to explore how incorporating biographical knowledge into the daily
routine and care of an individual with dementia can bring about changes in their behaviors that
impact quality of care and quality of life. This chapter assembles the major findings of the study,
considers the unique contribution to the research and practice of the care of people with dementia in
a long term care setting. The implications for further research discussed as well as limitations of the
study considered.
Discussion
The study makes a unique contribution to the existing literature on biographical approaches in
dementia care. The findings suggest a positive effect of this approach for people with dementia in
long term care setting. Similar to Life Story Work, Reminiscence Therapy and Meaningful activities
this study indicates a number of benefits.
First, it promotes increased understanding of the person. It enables nursing home staff to see a
person in the context of his whole life. This in turn leads into deeper relationships. The voice of the
resident with dementia can be heard when he or she is seen as a person and not just as a patient. The
uniqueness of person's needs and values can only be understood and adequately addressed by
knowing his or hers life story. As in case of Rosemary, by learning about her life experiences the
staff were able to see not a "mean and loud woman" but somebody who expresses her fear of water
getting into her ears, or attachment to

My Childhood Journey
I spent most of my childhood traveling the world. What a way to spend a childhood tell you, I am
the person I am today because of the places I have been, the opportunities I have had, and the people
I have met. I can not even remember the abundant number of times I have been woken up at four am
to leave for the airport. Dragging my sleepy feet behind me and dumping myself into the car. I
remember waiting in the jet way and, the deep inhale I would take when I'd first step foot on the
aircraft. Taking in a big breath of the "airplane air" that would always burn through my nose and
make me slightly nauseous. Over the years I have learned to hold my breath or to breathe out of my
mouth until I got to my seat. These are the same memories I relive every time I begin a new
adventure. As a kid I thought being pulled out of school for a week to go to Belize or Grand Turk
was normal; or that every other weekend every kid went to New York for the day to have lunch and
do some light shopping then fly home that night. It was not until one day with my twin sister sitting
in the seat next to me that I realized we were not like most kids. The flight attendant had bent down
in–between my sister and I as she quietly asked us if our parents had died. At twelve years old I was
shocked and left speechless. She went on to ask us why we were in school and it flourished into a
whole conversation about our trip. This was the same plane ride where I had one of the most
interesting conversations to

Dementia Care And The Importance Of Daily Routine Essay
Dementia Care and the Importance of Daily Routine Dementia robs a person of their ability to plan
or complete activities. It can make the world a very scary place. Familiarity is comforting and
reassuring. Jed Levine is an executive vice president with the Alzheimer's Association in New York,
he notes, "People with dementia experience greater difficulty when attempting to do new things. A
predictable routine can prevent a person with dementia from becoming distracted and forgetting
what they were doing. Even if there is little or no conscious awareness of time, routine helps ground
them." Holly Hart is the director of a residential health service in California. She agrees, "People
suffering from memory loss thrive on familiarity. Familiar faces, a familiar environment, even
familiar food–anything they can use as a touchstone." ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there is more than just the routine that should be considered. When routines are planned,
caregivers should think about the senior's abilities, interests, and past activities, as well as how they
enjoy using their time. Key components of the plan should include plentiful time for eating, personal
hygiene, and getting dressed. These activities often take increased amounts of time as the disease
progresses. Morning and evening activities should also be highly structured with set bedtimes and
times to wake up to avoid sundowning. In addition to creating a peaceful routine, well–designed
schedules can also provide a sense of control for a person who has lost control in so many areas of
their life. In some cases, it can help to delay the progression of the disease as it helps to strengthen
the short–term memory skills. Some researchers believe that routines help take short–term memory
activities and transfer them to the long–term memory part of the

never realized how much and how little improvement has happened in the past years. While

If these people are fighting so hard because God doesn't approve of their lifestyle (of being their true

desire feeling comfortable in your own body. You wear sweatpants, he wears a dress. Move on. I
loved the way the daily show tried to shine some light on the transgender community all while
pointing out how ridiculously people are reacting to transgender people living the way they were
meant to. Making light of these situations is really helpful in times like this. Even within harsh
circumstances, every person of every gender (and sex) deserve a laugh. The bathroom bill is a bill

The Audience's Response to 'Let him have it!' and 'The Daily Mail' in Peter Medak's Film
How is the response of the audience manipulated in Peter Medak's film 'Let him have it!' and 'The
Daily Mail' article of November 1952? Do they both show bias?
In November 1952 a policeman was shot dead and another left wounded in what the Daily Mail
called a 'gun battle' when Christopher Craig and Derek Bentley broke into the Barlow and Parker
warehouse in Croydon. I have looked at two media sources of information regarding this event. A
newspaper article taken from the Daily Mail 3rd November 1952 and Peter Medak's film 'Let him

What it evolved into wasn't a 'second battle of Sidney Street' as the Daily Mail claims because Craig
was the only one shooting, until a police officer fired three warning shots into the air.
Leaving out bits of information such as how Craig jumped from the building after shooting the
police officer stops people from feeling sorry for 'the bandits' and making up excuses for them like
saying that if he jumped he can't have meant it.
By writing about 'the gangsters' as if they were shooting at everyone and not just to scare the police
away, the media have created an interesting story that people will want to read and find out how the
case progresses and what verdict it will get in court, which is the effect that they would have
anticipated.
The opening paragraph that declares that the 'London crime wave reached a new peak' the night of
2nd November 1952 is someone's opinion presented as a fact, as is the shootings on the roof being
associated with the 'Battle of Sidney Street'. These are presented as facts so that people read them as
facts and believe them, whatever their own individual opinion is. Opinions will be argued with
because they are just someone's point of view whereas facts are solid, believable piece of
information, which reinforce the importance of a situation.

Department Business Targets Into Our Daily Routines
department business targets into our daily routines. Using the MBO methodology of collaborative
planning GTPLS Gippsland operation has developed an activity–based strategic plan that focuses on
our efforts towards the delivery of specific outcomes. These outcomes will in turn, lead to the
achievement of our goals and reaching the company's vision.
The success of this plan / strategy relies on a commitment to implementation and regular monitoring
of our progress no matter what we strive to achieve with the business planning process it will
become an exercise in 'theory ' unless there are mechanisms by which progress towards our stated
outcomes are reviewed and measured. To that end, the introduction of performance measurement is
the key to this plan and The Company's financial management (including contracted accountant)
will be responsible for collation of data and monitoring of business plan activities for presentation at
proposed monthly management meeting's with the key performance information being formally
reported to management and GTPLS staff at that time.
While dedicated planning is essential, rigid adherence to a faulty plan will lead to poor performance
or failure. A key aspect of successful planning is ongoing evaluation and flexibility, and it is
intended that this plan will be reviewed on a regular basis. This will ensure that all key business
targets and activities remain appropriate mechanisms for achieving both company's sales targets and
strategic goals.

Christmas Child Reflection
Operation Christmas Child has been a part of more than half of my life. I started volunteering when
I was eight at a family friend's church. However, the only reason I volunteered was because I needed
community service hours for school. I always secretly wished to be put in the packing group since it
had the least leadership role because I never wanted to be a leader. What I did not know at that time,
was those years before high school were preparing me for what God had in store for me. When I
started my freshman year in high school, I still had to do community service. This led me to
continue doing Operation Christmas Child. I was now volunteering at my school, Trinity Christian
High School along with my athletic director, Mr. Fitz, who was in charge of running it. Even though
this was taking place somewhere else, I expected that I would still be able to have a role not
involving leadership. This was not the case because Mr. Fitz had something else in store for me. He
assigned to me the role of the log sheets, which included talking to people, writing down the amount
of boxes were dropped off, and making sure the logs were neat and correct. I was very nervous to
take on this role, so much that I would start to shake causing me to get anxious and start sweating
right before I would have to talk to someone. There was a routine I went through every time. "Hello,
have you dropped boxes off here before?" I asked. "Yes, I have" a school teacher said. " Great, what

Who Don 't Take Everything?
In today's modern society, individual's beliefs and principles are spread through a variety of ways.
Everything we understand can be derived from a friend, parent, blogger, or even a news anchor who
spread common ideologies without questioning their validity. However, in every society, there are
those who don't take everything they hear to be true. These people, known as thinkers, question
familiar beliefs and provoke thinking in a new light. Born of humble beginnings, Socrates was one
of those thinkers and thought differently than most. Most of his life was spent fearlessly questioning
the told truth and provoking new wisdom in others. A man studied by so many, Socrates based many
of his ideologies around his religion. Like Socrates, Stephen Colbert is a religiously oriented thinker
who courageously speaks out without regard for his reputation in society. Colbert also has great
patriotism for the United States as did Socrates for Classical Athens. There are obvious similarities
in Colbert's way of critical thinking and his use of persuasion, skepticism and activism to that of
Socrates.
Born in Classical Athens, Socrates was raised in a society that respected the teachings of the Greek
Gods and those who considered themselves wise. Socrates' mission "was to expose the ignorance of
those who thought themselves wise and try to convince his fellow citizens that every man is
responsible for his own moral attitudes" (Plato, iv). Socrates sought to teach the common man the

The story received colossal press coverage from all of the newspapers, mainly because Atkinson is
famous for coaching so many black players. I have studies two newspapers' accounts of the same

This also uses the technique of personalisation like the tabloid; however it is more formal and does
not use slang. It does not have as much impact as The Sun uses words like 'racist', it seems less
harmful because they are only 'costly thoughts' instead. There is a more formal, serious picture; he is
shown doing his job in smart clothes and he looks dignified. There is only one picture and a lot more
text which is divided into eight columns.
The sun differs from the Daily Telegraph in content greatly. The Sun only has a short paragraph of
background information whereas The Daily Telegraph has quite a large section describing
Atkinson's tributes and achievements in football. Also The Sun has much shorter quotes in its
article. This is because The Sun is known to get straight to the point in articles whilst The Daily
Telegraph usually gives all sides of the argument before coming to a conclusion.
The Sun is part of the News Corporation Group owned by press baron Rupert Murdoch and is the
best–selling British newspaper selling 3.5 million copies a day, compared to The Daily Telegraph
who is part of Hollinger Inc. owned by Conrad Black. In comparison to The Sun it sells over three

people thought of him as wooden. When people heard this, they thought of it as a way of making

Satire In 'A Modest Proposal'
The Era of Hard Feelings Satire has been a common theme throughout modern culture, varying from
media, to a person's everyday demeanor or personality. Satire is defined as a way of using humor to
show that someone or something is foolish, weak, bad, or the weakness and bad qualities of a
person, government, and/or society (Webster's). It has become a natural occurrence in America's
way of life, even all around the world. It eventually evolved into a popular way of communication
called sarcasm. However, satire was not always widely accepted in popular culture. It was often
shunned or misunderstood as a crude outlook on life. For example, an infamous piece titled A

This is an extremely satirical idea simply because of the fact that it is ridiculing two types of people
in one sentence. The first, being the Irish Catholics, are made fun of quite obviously. The innuendo
is that, prior to the statement, it is suggested that there is a surplus of papist babies born nine months
after Lent, later supported by calling Catholics the "principal breeders" (Swift 622). This is seen as
an advantage to decrease the amount of Catholics in England, taking the opportunity and selling
more babies, but with a religious background. This idea is supported by the second, more hidden
bash of prejudice Englishmen with a Protestant religious background. The idea that the number of
papists would decrease is presented through Swift while the narrator is in the mindset of an English
Protestant just to make fun and to point out how foolish the idea of it all actually is.
The next example of extreme satire is when the author refers to an outside source. Swift goes on to
say that "A very worthy person, a true lover of his country, and whose virtues I highly esteem, was
lately pleased in discoursing on this matter to offer a refinement upon my scheme" (Swift 621). This
illustrates that another person is willing to support

Descriptive Essay About Dance
"Now hold it." Those are the worst words a ballet instructor can say. I stood on my tiptoes, hands
above my head, trying to hold my uncomfortable pose. There were about twelve other girls in my
class filling up the wide dance room. There were mirrors on every wall making sure that you would
be able to see your every move. We all wore pink, fluffy tutus with black leotards underneath and
pale pink ballet slippers. I could feel my legs start to shake as I struggled to hold the pose our ballet
instructor had ordered us to do but soon I was on the ground. I could feel all the other girls start to
look at me and my cheeks started to turn red from embarrassment. I kept my head down and started
to get up when I heard the loud tap of some black high heels. The shoes reached to where I was
lying and I looked up to my very annoyed looking teacher, Ms. Freel, or better known to the parents
and older ballerinas as Jenny. Ironically, we had the same name but we were completely different
people. On the first day of classes she made it clear that we must call her Ms.Freel and only
Ms.Freel. Ms. Freel was an old, stern looking woman who only wore her hair in a slicked back bun.
She wore the same black dress that reached her ankles and black tights underneath.I never
understood why she would be liked by anyone from how scary she seemed. Yet, the older more
experienced ballerinas adored her and the new ballerinas were absolutely afraid of her.
Afraid is what I felt when I looked at how

No Land 's Man By Aasif Mandvi
No Land's Man is an autobiography written in short essays by Aasif Mandvi. He sections off his
book, into many important events that happened throughout his life. Mandvi writes about his life as
a child all the way through adulthood. Mandvi was born in India and moved to England when he
was only a year old. He grew up with his mother, his father, and his younger sister, Shabana. Ever
since Mandvi was a child he wanted to be an actor. Culturally, Indian and Muslim parents strive for
their children to be successful, with high paying jobs. Mandvi's parents were supportive of him, but
wanted him to be a successful actor. At the beginning of the book he explains how his family and

This showed that not everyone picked on him, and some of the kids were genuinely nice, and were
concerned for him. He continually stayed positive throughout any event that had happened to him,
and he learned from it and continued to move forward.
Mandvi and his family moved to the United States when he was sixteen years old. When he moved
to America, his father strived to fit in, and be a true American. He tried too hard, and Mandvi felt
that he was a truer American than his father because he did not try as hard. Mandvi fit in better in
America than the other countries he grew up in because he created a new life for himself in
America. Mandvi lived in Florida and attended the University of Southern Florida, where he
graduated with a degree in Theatre.
Mandvi also wrote about his father, and his struggle throughout life. He talks about how he worked
hard for the family. His father worked for Verizon, answering the help line. Mandvi wrote a story
about his father getting fired for using profanity with a customer. His father was happy to be fired.
Although, he was unhappy with his job, he worked hard for his family. Once he was fired he said he
was going to grow chili peppers. Mandvi took after his father's work ethic, and never gave up, and

Saturday Night Live Analysis
The television show Saturday Night Live is known for mocking presidents. In the 1970s Chevy
Chase impersonated President Gerald Ford. More recently Alec Baldwin has been targeting
President Donald Trump, during both his campaign and after the election. Earlier this year, Baldwin
was seen poking fun at Trump's lack of impulse control. Ironically, Trump tweeted during the show
saying, "Just tried watching Saturday Night Live – unwatchable! Totally biased, not funny and the
Baldwin impersonation just can't get any worse." Political satirization is often present on Saturday
Night Live especially involving President Trump. Baldwin portrays Trump as pugnacious and
confused about the power he now possesses. Before his election, Trump's campaign ... Show more

Those who opposed Jackson made political cartoons that mocked him such as The Political
Barbeque and King Andrew the First. The Political Barbeque by Henry R. Jackson, insulted Jackson
for his vetoing of the charter for the Bank of the United States. Both Robinson and Saturday Night
Live are mocking political figures using humor and exaggeration. The Political Barbeque refers to
the idea of Jackson rejecting the Bank of the United States and the controversy surrounding
Jackson's removal of federal deposits. In reaction to this, Robinson created this political cartoon
insulting Jackson by placing his head on the body of pig. He also depicted Jackson roasting over the
fires of public opinion which conveyed the idea that the general public was against Jackson. In
addition, the cartoon titled King Andrew the First mimics Jackson by placing him in a king's outfit.
The illustrator most likely wanted to express that Jackson put himself in a high position, like a King,
especially when he passed the order in 1833 to remove federal deposits from the Bank of the United
States. Political satire is present in both Baldwin's impersonation of Trump on Saturday Night Live
and in the cartoon's portraying Andrew Jackson. Throughout history and today when controversy
surrounds U.S. presidents, political satire

Bryan is a free spirit type‒all smiles and full of life. Despite his teaching position, he was one of the
youngest of the guys there at 21 years old. Having danced for nearly 6 years and teaching for 3, he
has found his place in dance more than anywhere else. "It's a really great outlet for self–expression,
and its something you can do when you grow older," he laughed. "I just love the stylization and
personality you can infuse into your dancing." Chairs lining the entryway were quickly filled with
personal belongings. Although it served as an informal changing area, the most well–prepared
students came already dressed with the necessary dance items in their bags. The dark–colored outfits
were especially important. Not only did the class looked unified, but it also gave each student an
expressive and distinguishable style. Despite the routine of bringing these items, sweat towels, yoga
mats, and other items were available for the students to borrow from if they forgot their own. One
student, in particular, Anna, seemed to struggle with the simple weekly ritual of remembering her
belongings. As the students unrolled their yoga mats on the dance floor, Anna ran off to the
bathroom to change and scoured the designated lockbox in search of a mat she liked. Although Anna
did not comply with the standard behavior of the subculture, Bryan did not expect all of the students
to be equally familiar with the pre–class routine. Anna was obviously the most recent addition to the

Organized Exercise Analysis
The goal I choose to follow over the last two months was to have some form of organized exercise a
day, whether it be running, basketball, or lifting weights. When I first made the plan, it was to run
every morning at 11am and then again at 9pm, and any other exercise that happened to cross my
way that day I would also include. However, by then end of my trip I found my plan had changed
much from what it started as out. To help with the work of accomplishing this goal, I used two
useful tools I had that I thought would make it easier. Firstly, I had my parents send me a text every
morning to make sure I was awake and working out, or at least putting in some kind of effort to do
something. Second, whenever I went running I brought along my roommate ... Show more content

steady track to being accomplished. I definitely had enough time as the main goal was just to work
out every day and see some change, and doing what was required was just to work out. I made my
goal so that it would provide some challenge as I would have to go run twice every day, which
would be good exercise and it did turn out to be, so I would say that I did set a good performance
goal. The barriers that would prevent me from reaching my goal is laziness, having a poor diet, or
doing something that could prevent me from running, but more on that later. I overcame the barriers
by having my roommates and my parents always behind me motivating me to go and also coming
with me. They knew what I was trying to achieve and did everything they could to help me. I
personally came over laziness by holding myself accountable and always going into every situation
with food viewing it as fuel and thinking about the affect it would have on my body, which lead to

Political Humor And Satire In The Show 'Black-Ish'
The show Black–ish displays political humor and satire by using concepts such as confrontation,
and discursive integration. Throughout this paper, I will be explaining how Black–ish displays these
concepts, as well as proving that this text can be considered politically humorous and satirical. I will
be taking examples from the texts Entertaining the Citizen and the article Let Us Infotain You, as
well as the show Black–ish itself to help clearly provide evidence that shows that show Black–ish
contains satire.

Black–ish Is a comedy show but at times it shows clips or images that are not more news like and
informative to the viewers. To show how Black–ish I will be discussing one of the episodes of the
show from season three in comparison with the article Let Us Infotain You. In the episode "40 Acres
and a Vote" it used discursive integration. At the beginning, Andre had a slide playing sad music
with images of the Obama family on it. He then goes into a discussion speaking about how Barrack
Obama wasn't just important because he was the first black president, but because of he gave a hand
in showing African Americans that their votes not only were important, but they counted. There then
was a dramatization showing the process African Americans went through and the abuses they
experienced just to get to a place that showed their votes meant something. The reason why I believe
that this is a good example of the concept of discursive integration because although Black–ish is a
comedy sitcom, it speaks on real life news situations that are happening currently. In the article Let
Us Infotain You the author's states, "The blurring between news and entertainment is exemplified by
the fact that the National Enquirer's own reputation had been enhanced and begrudgingly
acknowledged by members of the mainstream press because of its reporting during the O. J.

Example Of A Hero
Everyone has someone they look up to as a hero. It may be parents, grandparents, a friend, or even a
fictional character. There is a lot of things that make a person a hero and it doesn't necessarily mean
someone who wears a cape. A hero is a person who is not afraid to step in and do the right thing,
regardless of the situation. Heroes are usually centered around the idea of having a positive impact
on others. Being a hero isn't always doing something so big and great, but mostly just doing what's
right because it's the right thing to do and because it makes life better for others. A great example of
a hero would be Spiderman because he helps protect people from crime and danger, he shows that
he is very caring, and shows lots of courage. He is an example of what anyone would describe as a
great hero. Spiderman is a great example of a hero because he could be doing something else,
anything really, but he chooses to help fight crime in order to save the city because he believes with
the powers he has, it's his duty to help protect the people from the danger that is happening around.
He could be studying or working, or pretty much just leading a normal and calm life, using his
powers as a little to make things easier. But he as a person decides to help fight crime and protect
the people in his city because he thinks it's the right thing to do. When really, it's the police who
should be doing this kind of stuff. After all, they're specifically trained and equipped to do so. And
still, he believes it's his duty to do this because of his powers. He isn't getting paid to do this. He
could just quit whenever he wants. It isn't a job. No–one could blame him for doing it. But he goes
on. He sticks to his duty, no matter what the situation. He sticks to his morals and what he believes
in, even when people try to destroy him. He has nothing to gain and everything to lose, and yet he
still does it. He's a hero because he chose to sacrifice himself for the better and safety of others.
Another example of why Spiderman is considered a great example of a hero is because he shows
that he is a very caring person. When it comes to being a hero it's not all about solving crimes and
saving lives. It's also about helping

Late Night Show Satire
Just a few years ago, late night shows were a way for celebrities to promote their new movie, TV
series, or music. The host would just conduct light–hearted interviews and harmless, interactive
games. Jimmy Kimmel has had guests read hate tweets; James Corden has sang karaoke while
driving guest stars; Jimmy Fallon has competed in lip sync battles against guests; SNL has invited
guests to temporarily replace Pandora. Now, instead of simple comedy, some hosts are injecting
political commentary in their news updates and monologues. Over the last year, late night television
ratings have shifted. Fiery shows like "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee" and "The Late Show with
Stephen Colbert" have seen an influx of viewers; whereas the apolitical "Tonight Show with Jimmy
Fallon" has begun to decline. TV preferences, show content, and social dynamics have transitioned
to be more political, demonstrating that our society is becoming more "tribal," more group oriented.

people choose to watch. They want to see someone make fun of Trump. They want to laugh at the

How the Media Influences the Public Perception of Science...
Sometimes careless science publishing can weaken the public's confidence in science and the
government. The Media is enormously powerful and leading and will influence people's opinions on
everything. There are plenty of stories in the media that will change the public's perception of
science or even make them see a new perception. Sometimes these stories are just written to scare
the public into believing a certain thing just so they can sell their stories.
Stories sometimes are true and sometimes they are false but it is up to the public to believe in what
is right and what is wrong. In this day and age, where information is available at the touch of a

The tabloid newspaper is the Sun and the broadsheet newspaper is the Times.
Firstly I will analyse the story written by the Sun, this tabloid covered the same story as the Times
and therefore we can find out their intentions. The Sun had the following bold headline "Deadly
strain confirmed", I can clearly see from the start that they are trying to create a scare in the public
and capture the reader's attention very fast, this is because they don't tell you what deadly strain they
are talking about, if I were to see this in a newspaper lying around I would pick it up because it
already got me worried and caught my attention. This has made me think, are they trying to inform
the reader or just trying to sell their story? You only learn what the deadly strain is after you read
paragraph 1 so this proves my point.
On the 3rd paragraph the Sun states the following "the swan had the strain which can be fatal to
humans." Instead of just using "the swan had the H5N1 strain" the Sun chooses to create more of an
impact by using the word "fatal" and implying it to humans. This makes the beginning of the article
to cause fear, evoke an element of alarm and perhaps imply that the readers should be fearful for
their own health. The article also mentions experts rushing to the scene to

The results might be surprising to the Managers. Especially, when they are out of touch with what
really is going on around the store.
Step 2 is forming a powerful guiding coalition. Leadership will have to be on board and on the same
page in regards to the change. Kotter and Cohen reveal the core problems people face when leading
change. Their main findings are that the central issue concerns not structure or systems but behavior
and how to alter it (Farris, 2008). The success of the changes will depend on the ability of the
managers to show their commitment to change and motivate the employees to do the same. Without
any process to track the implementation, the change can also fail.
Step 3 is to create a vision. The vision will have to be something that can be realistically achieved

Newscasters' current view of balance is to report both sides of an issue, despite the consequences.
Straightforward news has descended into a wacky belief that replaces balance for accuracy and
truth.
Virtually every matter can be described as a debate between two conflicting sides, and the journalist
is apprehensive of expressing that one side has it right, and the other side does not. It leaves the
audience in the position of having to consider opposing factual assertions, often without enough info
to properly choose that one side is clearly right, and the other side is striving to create doubt with
propaganda.
Interpretation
An interpretation of the show reflects that many viewers consider Stewart a reputable, true journalist
who provides a genuine take on current events. Many watchers obtain their news and opinions from
his show. Comparing the show's news outline with that of the more conventional news media and
investigating the listing of guests and segments, then placing the program into some kind of media
framework shows the structures are quite similar. This leads to the audience giving credibility to the
show as an authentic source for news. There are questions raised on how Stewart achieves this.

My Experience In High School
High school started for me in August, and it was my freshman year. My arsenal of pens, pencils, and
binders were ready to be used. Also, I purchased a burly backpack, chic clothes, and swaggy shoes.
The school supplies were supposed to impress the teachers while the aesthetics were supposed to
impress the girls. Only one worked out. Before school started, I woke up 30 minutes before school
to keep my body hygienic. Brushing my teeth, cleaning my retainers, styling my hair, walk to
school. And even after school, it remained as a casual schedule: hit the gym, take a shower, eat
dinner, start homework. Sooner or later, I adapted into this mundane routine that seemed normal to
me. Despite the dull and casual routine, the weekends never followed a straightforward plan. They
were always spontaneous and exciting. One weekend could be partying with my friends; the other
time could be hanging out with my cat, Baron. His chubby belly and snow–white fur made him
more charming than colorful peacock and even his blue eyes glistened better than a baby's. The
anticipation of Saturday and Sunday motivated me to push through the rigorous school days. I
looked forward to having a whole day free with Baron. Whenever I took him outside, there were
chill and brisk breezes that blew the luscious green grass, tilting uniformly in one direction. During
this, Baron and I would just relax and bask in the glimmering sunlight, and if I were lucky, he would
lay on my stomach while I caressed him. I

Political Satire
Argument Essay
Political satire is ubiquitous in United States. Social media are presenting uncountable numbers of
political satires and tweets. As Iain Ellis, who has a Ph.D in American Culture Studies, said,
"Today's political humor infects, inflects, and injects into our national state of affairs"(Ellis 150). In
relation to Ellis' quote, the idea of utilizing humor as a political tool subverted my perception on
humor, and such utilization has spread through not only in democratic countries, but also in
countries like Egypt. Whether political humor and satires are beneficial for the society has been a
controversial topic among scholars, politicians, and philosophers. Ramon Lopez, a fourth year Ph.D

similar role, but in completely different settings. The difference in their settings diversify their

Pre Traditional And Non Traditional Media
Over the last fifteen to twenty years, and especially since 2008, more and more Americans are
getting their news from non–traditional media sources such as on–line news or social media. Few
things have changed so significantly as the media, and the way in which Americans consume
information. Non–traditional news programs such as the Daily Show and the Colbert Report have
become increasingly popular. Although these shows may be dismissed by some as legitimate news
sources, studies show viewers of Stewart and Colbert are among the best informed in the country.
Another example of non–traditional media that is fairly new is that of John Oliver, a British

Weinman references Ellen E. Jones thinking that, the key reason for this is "he does what he does
with a sense of humor and an awareness of cultural sensitivities".
According to Weinman, there are multiple reasons that Oliver's new show has been a success thus
far. To maximize the exposure of his show to viewers, Weinman references how, "At a time when
other TV studios are hoarding their content, trying to keep it on their own sites, Oliver 's producers
have made a deliberate decision to free up his routines and make them as widely accessible as
possible". Weinman points out key segments are uploaded to the show 's official account on

What are some of the benefits to these different news sources? What are some of the drawbacks?
Our class lecture notes reference several benefits to online news that make it more popular than, and
even preferred to traditional news sources. First it is rather convenient. We do not live lives that

The Contrast Between the Daily Mail and the Independent Newspapers need to aim at a specific
corner of the market to be successful. The main reason for this is that if you have a readership
consisting of a specific class or type of people eg. Middle class business men. Then advertisers who
want to appeal to that specific audience will use that paper for their advert and the paper can obtain
large profits from adverts and the advertisers can sell lots of products. Therefore the paper needs to

designed to give a dramatic look to the page as it is in a huge, bold text. It is also a WOB (white on

adds lots of stress to the headline as it is a powerful word that has a dramatic. The use of 'Blair
Mutiny' is clever as it mimics 'The Cain Mutiny' which was when the crew of Cain's ship mutinied,
just like now as Blair's 'crew', the cabinet are revolting. The Independents headline of 'Short faces

the Mail's and also it isn't in bold. Unlike the Mail the independent haven't used WOB (white on
black) which gives it a lower profile. The use of the word 'treachery' gives it more drama and
emphasis. Although it is obvious to see that this paper is not looking to attract readers by impact and
dramatic looks, it is more aiming at people that will read it for the

Punctuality: Monochronic And Polychronic Culture
Punctuality : Monochronic and Polychronic Culture Marissa Gross BT Halim Help University One
of the cultures depicted in the video included a country without clocks. This raises the question, how
are people ever on time? In most of the western culture, punctuality is a social norm. It is easy to
assume that the whole world views the concept of being punctual similarly, despite having a few
minor alterations. For example, Malaysia's idea of punctuality, or also known to locals as 'Malaysian
Time' is a concept where people are still considered punctual, even if they are slightly late. Now,
after extensive research, it turns out that it's not just 'Malaysian Time ', but there actually is a distinct
grouping of cultures based on a specific countries idea of punctuality. ... Show more content on

The mono–chronic culture regards time as linear, lateness and interruptions are not tolerated and
people do one thing at a time, whereas the poly–chronic culture views time as cyclical, interruptions
are acceptable and punctuality does not matter (Daily Telegraph, 1999). Since the polychronic
culture is rather different from the western view on punctuality, we shall further discuss it. Business
Mexico (2002) described people from polychronic cultures as more productive due to the fact that
they are able to multitask and deal with multiple problems at one time. Hence polychronic people
have an easier time adapting to jobs which require to be able to do a multiple things a the same time,
for instance interpreters who listen to one language and then speak in another (Business Mexico,

The Importance Of A Hero
¨Hard times don't create heroes. It is during the hard times when the hero within us is revealed¨–
Bob Riley. In other words, you are not born a hero, doing what you think is right in bad situations is
what makes you a hero and makes a hero shed their true skin. Although most people think that a
hero has a cape and tights, that is not always true because a hero can be anywhere or anyone. What
really makes someone a hero is doing what's right to insure the safety and well being of others.
What is a hero? As stated in Kendra Cherry´s article, A hero is someone who persists even in
moments of danger and fear, also they have empathy. Heroes are positive thinkers and think well in
bad situations. In addition, it is stated in Kendra Cherry´s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Once again from the daily telegraph, a hero is not always someone who is wearing a cape,
nevertheless someone who makes a difference in somebody's lives. Above all heroes are not people
who expect reward for actions and become a hero by chance, but determination to help others.
All around the world there are heroes, everywhere you see there is someone who has helped
someone in need and has done the right thing. According to Art Green's post in November,
specifically one important hero is Master Sergeant Roy P. Benavidez. He did something very
extraordinary. He went on a very dangerous rescue mission to save his military buddies; he was the
only one to go. Additionally went off with just a knife and a medic bag, he had to many with
gunshot wounds all around. He waited for a chopper, when it arrived the pilot got shot. He actually
had too fight off the Vietnamese army for six hours with the help of the army until the other chopper
arrived. When he got on the plane he collapsed, they all thought he was dead until the doctor said he
was still barely alive. In addition, he was went through surgery and received the Medal of Honor by
president Reagan. Another was recognized not too long ago, according to CNN, Stephen Willeford
did something amazing. While someone was unloading on a church by his home, he grabbed his gun
and with another man he stopped the gunman and saved more lives from being taken. Heroes aren't
always people like those

Satirizing News Shows

  • 1. Satirizing News Shows In recent years, political comedies, especially those satirizing news programs, have risen in popularity. Shows like The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Last Week Tonight, and The Nightly Show have had a huge impact on mainstream America. Because of their comedic nature, these shows can get away with addressing taboo topics in opinionated manners. Furthermore, their audiences are less likely to be defensive because their message is displayed in a humorous way. Therefore, these programs have a significant amount of power when it comes to influencing the political sphere. Serious news networks often cover topics that are safe. Reporters try to avoid controversy by not addressing controversial topics or by removing anything possibly offensive. Thus, even if touchy topics shown, no revolutionary viewpoints are shared. Satirical news programs, on the other hand, follow no such guidelines. They can address topics such as transgender rights, the death penalty, and police brutality. Unlike other reporters, comedians feel no such need to represent both sides of an argument. In topics like climate change, parody news shows do not represent the one percent of scientists that don't believe in global warming on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their websites are full of click bait and their reporters are paid based on how much traffic an article gets. Because of this, topics that may seem dull are passed over for CNN's 24/7 reporting on the lost Malaysian airliners. Yet, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver's YouTube channel can rack up over 3.5 million views for a video about food waste and nearly 4 million views on a segment covering the need for camera footage of Supreme Court cases. Since all of his reports are in comedic in manner, audiences are not put off by the seemingly dull subject matter. • 3. Jon Stewart : America 's Politics And Pop Culture In America, Jon Stewart popularized satirical news shows for Generation Y and Millenials, helping bridge the gap between more traditional news outlets like print newspaper and primetime news programming, with a more youthful Comedy Central–produced program that could be accessed on all mediums, including digital and mobile platforms. While in Europe, I was shocked by the amount of young Europeans that new of Jon Stewart and regularly watched his television program online in their home countries. Much of what they knew about America's politics and pop culture came from Jon Stewart's The Daily Show, and some countries like the Netherlands even tried to create their own version of the program. Stewart presented complicated American politics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a sense, the outside pressures can censor a person's opinion as that person will be held to said opinion for as long as it is remembered. In modern day the ease of consuming news makes it so that the media relays the news of the day to information–seeking Americans, creating few major news channels to inform the masses, often with a political slant. Jon Stewart's role as a political satirist and news host becomes crucial when placed against the major powers of CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News. Jon Stewart began as host of The Daily Show on Comedy Central in 1998, about two years after Craig Kilborn had hosted it. He would continue hosting until announcing his retirement in 2015. Over his years as host, Stewart saw the switch in the media platforms Americans used to access their news, with more Americans switching to a digital platform, such as the 44 percent of Americans that used the Internet and mobile devices. Despite this switch in platforms, Americans in the 2000s spent just as much time as those in the mid–1990s at actually ingesting news, where the latter relied on more traditional platforms like primetime television and print newspapers. Public Figure & Government Scrutinization In the modern day, it is a common practice for political satirists to note the move in the ideologies of the modern day Democratic and, more particularly, Republican parties. "Bringing characters to life with Pixar's animator magic" http://venturebeat.com/2013/04/24/how–pixars–animators–bring–characters–to–life– with–magic– interview/ (2013) Dean Takahashi's assert reveals the interview between himself (VentureBeat) and Pixars' supervising animator Scott Clark. During the interview, Scott Clark discusses about how complex animation has become over time from how animation used to be completed fifteen or so years ago and how this new technology takes animations to a whole new level, referring to their most recent film, Monsters University. The tools of technology has become "a big fancy pencil" said Clark. Even though there are dozens of new tools animators use in this time, there are still tools we use that were created almost 20 years ago. As technology advances, work becomes a little faster but still takes the patience trait needed. Takahashi asks Clark about having an army to create these films. Clark responds that as films get richer and complex, such as with more characters, that it pretty much takes an army to complete the film. Each person is hand animating something. Chang, Soojin. • 7. What Makes a Monster Essay What Makes a Monster? Monsters are often thought of as green, abnormally large and scary. They are believed to hide in dark shadows and forgotten street corners. Monsters have a bad reputation and the very nature of the term monster is not smiled upon. I believe these thoughts are generic and relics of a much safer past. In our morally bankrupt society monsters exist in the realist scariest form. As we step into adulthood and take our heads out of the comic books that shows us the danger of the Green Goblin we must now be alerted the real demons. Adolf Hitler killed thousands upon thousands of people. His persona and legacy can only be thought of as sick and sadistic. Adolf Hitler did by himself what would take an entire army of ... Osborne decided other wise. Using not Spiderman, but Peter Parker as my last explain I would like to show you that what makes a monster is more than the struggle for power as I earlier stated. It is the choice we make with that power whether it is given to us or taken. In conclusion I want to provide you with a few points of clarity. Power did not make Adolf Hitler a monster. Self–love, greed, and ill convinced passion made Hitler the monster history remembers him as. Passions gone wrong made Dr. Osborne into an actual scaly green monster he became. Passion may have drove these men to extreme lengths, but their bad choices made them monsters. Good thing that in every comic, movie, and history book, there is always a few Peter Parkers' to save the day. You can not have the bad guys with out the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The World Of The East Coast Of Massachusetts The rooms were confined to themselves by a large metal door with a small slot about 5 feet from the floor that could only be opened from the outside. All there was in the room was a small cot with a mattress so thin, it almost looked as if it was a thin piece of plywood. • 13. Analysis Of There Will Come Soft Rains The text, There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury tells the story of a robotically controlled house left standing in a post–apocalyptic world. Every day, life continues as normal for the house until it meets the same fate of "death" as it catches on fire and burns to the ground, leaving only one voice behind. This story made me think about how, even though you may not be there, time still passes on and does not stop for anybody. Throughout the text, it continues to refer to the time of day it is, and elaborates on how the day is progressing, like one of the first lines, "Tick–tock, seven o'clock, time to get up, time to get up, seven o'clock!" Everything, apart from the fact there is nobody around, seems completely normal, and a routine is still kept in place. The house continues on as if what's going on is completely normal, as it knows no different from what it has been programmed to do. The writer makes me think about how we need to make the most of our time on our Earth. We never know when our last day will be, and our lives are honestly quite fleeting. I personally know that I don't like or enjoy coming out of the routine I have set for myself on a day to day basis, although this makes a lot of my days feel the same in an overall sense. The message about how time won't, and can't, stop for anybody, and how life is so fragile, makes me think about how, maybe, I am not living to my fullest potential. This is the case for a lot of other people as well, and is a wide ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The focus of this study was to explore how incorporating biographical knowledge into the daily routine and care of an individual with dementia can bring about changes in their behaviors that impact quality of care and quality of life. This chapter assembles the major findings of the study, considers the unique contribution to the research and practice of the care of people with dementia in a long term care setting. The implications for further research discussed as well as limitations of the study considered. Discussion The study makes a unique contribution to the existing literature on biographical approaches in dementia care. The findings suggest a positive effect of this approach for people with dementia in long term care setting. Similar to Life Story Work, Reminiscence Therapy and Meaningful activities this study indicates a number of benefits. First, it promotes increased understanding of the person. It enables nursing home staff to see a person in the context of his whole life. This in turn leads into deeper relationships. The voice of the resident with dementia can be heard when he or she is seen as a person and not just as a patient. The uniqueness of person's needs and values can only be understood and adequately addressed by knowing his or hers life story. As in case of Rosemary, by learning about her life experiences the staff were able to see not a "mean and loud woman" but somebody who expresses her fear of water getting into her ears, or attachment to ... What a way to spend a childhood tell you, I am the person I am today because of the places I have been, the opportunities I have had, and the people I have met. I can not even remember the abundant number of times I have been woken up at four am to leave for the airport. Dragging my sleepy feet behind me and dumping myself into the car. I remember waiting in the jet way and, the deep inhale I would take when I'd first step foot on the aircraft. Taking in a big breath of the "airplane air" that would always burn through my nose and make me slightly nauseous. Over the years I have learned to hold my breath or to breathe out of my mouth until I got to my seat. These are the same memories I relive every time I begin a new adventure. As a kid I thought being pulled out of school for a week to go to Belize or Grand Turk was normal; or that every other weekend every kid went to New York for the day to have lunch and do some light shopping then fly home that night. It was not until one day with my twin sister sitting in the seat next to me that I realized we were not like most kids. The flight attendant had bent down in–between my sister and I as she quietly asked us if our parents had died. At twelve years old I was shocked and left speechless. She went on to ask us why we were in school and it flourished into a whole conversation about our trip. This was the same plane ride where I had one of the most interesting conversations to ... It can make the world a very scary place. Familiarity is comforting and reassuring. Even if there is little or no conscious awareness of time, routine helps ground them." Holly Hart is the director of a residential health service in California. When routines are planned, caregivers should think about the senior's abilities, interests, and past activities, as well as how they enjoy using their time. Key components of the plan should include plentiful time for eating, personal hygiene, and getting dressed. These activities often take increased amounts of time as the disease progresses. Morning and evening activities should also be highly structured with set bedtimes and times to wake up to avoid sundowning. In addition to creating a peaceful routine, well–designed schedules can also provide a sense of control for a person who has lost control in so many areas of their life. The Audience's Response to 'Let him have it!' and 'The Daily Mail' in Peter Medak's Film How is the response of the audience manipulated in Peter Medak's film 'Let him have it!' and 'The Daily Mail' article of November 1952? Do they both show bias? In November 1952 a policeman was shot dead and another left wounded in what the Daily Mail called a 'gun battle' when Christopher Craig and Derek Bentley broke into the Barlow and Parker warehouse in Croydon. What it evolved into wasn't a 'second battle of Sidney Street' as the Daily Mail claims because Craig was the only one shooting, until a police officer fired three warning shots into the air. Leaving out bits of information such as how Craig jumped from the building after shooting the police officer stops people from feeling sorry for 'the bandits' and making up excuses for them like saying that if he jumped he can't have meant it. By writing about 'the gangsters' as if they were shooting at everyone and not just to scare the police away, the media have created an interesting story that people will want to read and find out how the case progresses and what verdict it will get in court, which is the effect that they would have anticipated. The opening paragraph that declares that the 'London crime wave reached a new peak' the night of 2nd November 1952 is someone's opinion presented as a fact, as is the shootings on the roof being associated with the 'Battle of Sidney Street'. These are presented as facts so that people read them as facts and believe them, whatever their own individual opinion is. Using the MBO methodology of collaborative planning GTPLS Gippsland operation has developed an activity–based strategic plan that focuses on our efforts towards the delivery of specific outcomes. These outcomes will in turn, lead to the achievement of our goals and reaching the company's vision. The success of this plan / strategy relies on a commitment to implementation and regular monitoring of our progress no matter what we strive to achieve with the business planning process it will become an exercise in 'theory ' unless there are mechanisms by which progress towards our stated outcomes are reviewed and measured. To that end, the introduction of performance measurement is the key to this plan and The Company's financial management (including contracted accountant) will be responsible for collation of data and monitoring of business plan activities for presentation at proposed monthly management meeting's with the key performance information being formally reported to management and GTPLS staff at that time. However, the only reason I volunteered was because I needed community service hours for school. I always secretly wished to be put in the packing group since it had the least leadership role because I never wanted to be a leader. What I did not know at that time, was those years before high school were preparing me for what God had in store for me. When I started my freshman year in high school, I still had to do community service. This led me to continue doing Operation Christmas Child. I was now volunteering at my school, Trinity Christian High School along with my athletic director, Mr. Fitz, who was in charge of running it. Even though this was taking place somewhere else, I expected that I would still be able to have a role not involving leadership. This was not the case because Mr. Fitz had something else in store for me. He assigned to me the role of the log sheets, which included talking to people, writing down the amount of boxes were dropped off, and making sure the logs were neat and correct. I was very nervous to take on this role, so much that I would start to shake causing me to get anxious and start sweating right before I would have to talk to someone. There was a routine I went through every time. "Hello, have you dropped boxes off here before?" I asked. "Yes, I have" a school teacher said. " Great, what church or ... Everything we understand can be derived from a friend, parent, blogger, or even a news anchor who spread common ideologies without questioning their validity. However, in every society, there are those who don't take everything they hear to be true. These people, known as thinkers, question familiar beliefs and provoke thinking in a new light. Born of humble beginnings, Socrates was one of those thinkers and thought differently than most. Most of his life was spent fearlessly questioning the told truth and provoking new wisdom in others. A man studied by so many, Socrates based many of his ideologies around his religion. Like Socrates, Stephen Colbert is a religiously oriented thinker who courageously speaks out without regard for his reputation in society. Colbert also has great patriotism for the United States as did Socrates for Classical Athens. There are obvious similarities in Colbert's way of critical thinking and his use of persuasion, skepticism and activism to that of Socrates. Born in Classical Athens, Socrates was raised in a society that respected the teachings of the Greek Gods and those who considered themselves wise. Socrates' mission "was to expose the ignorance of those who thought themselves wise and try to convince his fellow citizens that every man is responsible for his own moral attitudes" (Plato, iv). Satire is defined as a way of using humor to show that someone or something is foolish, weak, bad, or the weakness and bad qualities of a person, government, and/or society (Webster's). It has become a natural occurrence in America's way of life, even all around the world. It eventually evolved into a popular way of communication called sarcasm. This is an extremely satirical idea simply because of the fact that it is ridiculing two types of people in one sentence. The first, being the Irish Catholics, are made fun of quite obviously. The innuendo is that, prior to the statement, it is suggested that there is a surplus of papist babies born nine months after Lent, later supported by calling Catholics the "principal breeders" (Swift 622). This is seen as an advantage to decrease the amount of Catholics in England, taking the opportunity and selling more babies, but with a religious background. This idea is supported by the second, more hidden bash of prejudice Englishmen with a Protestant religious background. The idea that the number of papists would decrease is presented through Swift while the narrator is in the mindset of an English Protestant just to make fun and to point out how foolish the idea of it all actually is. The next example of extreme satire is when the author refers to an outside source. When I first made the plan, it was to run every morning at 11am and then again at 9pm, and any other exercise that happened to cross my way that day I would also include. However, by then end of my trip I found my plan had changed much from what it started as out. To help with the work of accomplishing this goal, I used two useful tools I had that I thought would make it easier. Firstly, I had my parents send me a text every morning to make sure I was awake and working out, or at least putting in some kind of effort to do something. Second, whenever I went running I brought along my roommate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Along with the weight loss app and my roommate going with me every day, the goal was on a very steady track to being accomplished. I definitely had enough time as the main goal was just to work out every day and see some change, and doing what was required was just to work out. I made my goal so that it would provide some challenge as I would have to go run twice every day, which would be good exercise and it did turn out to be, so I would say that I did set a good performance goal. The barriers that would prevent me from reaching my goal is laziness, having a poor diet, or doing something that could prevent me from running, but more on that later. I overcame the barriers by having my roommates and my parents always behind me motivating me to go and also coming with me. They knew what I was trying to achieve and did everything they could to help me. I personally came over laziness by holding myself accountable and always going into every situation with food viewing it as fuel and thinking about the affect it would have on my body, which lead to making healthier choices in the ... • 51. Political Humor And Satire In The Show 'Black-Ish' The show Black–ish displays political humor and satire by using concepts such as confrontation, and discursive integration. Throughout this paper, I will be explaining how Black–ish displays these concepts, as well as proving that this text can be considered politically humorous and satirical. I will be taking examples from the texts Entertaining the Citizen and the article Let Us Infotain You, as well as the show Black–ish itself to help clearly provide evidence that shows that show Black–ish contains satire. Black–ish is a sitcom about a higher middle–class African–American family who lives in a suburban neighborhood in California. Black–ish Is a comedy show but at times it shows clips or images that are not more news like and informative to the viewers. To show how Black–ish I will be discussing one of the episodes of the show from season three in comparison with the article Let Us Infotain You. In the episode "40 Acres and a Vote" it used discursive integration. At the beginning, Andre had a slide playing sad music with images of the Obama family on it. He then goes into a discussion speaking about how Barrack Obama wasn't just important because he was the first black president, but because of he gave a hand in showing African Americans that their votes not only were important, but they counted. There then was a dramatization showing the process African Americans went through and the abuses they experienced just to get to a place that showed their votes meant something. The reason why I believe that this is a good example of the concept of discursive integration because although Black–ish is a comedy sitcom, it speaks on real life news situations that are happening currently. In the article Let Us Infotain You the author's states, "The blurring between news and entertainment is exemplified by the fact that the National Enquirer's own reputation had been enhanced and begrudgingly acknowledged by members of the mainstream press because of its reporting during the O. • 53. Example Of A Hero Everyone has someone they look up to as a hero. It may be parents, grandparents, a friend, or even a fictional character. There is a lot of things that make a person a hero and it doesn't necessarily mean someone who wears a cape. A hero is a person who is not afraid to step in and do the right thing, regardless of the situation. Heroes are usually centered around the idea of having a positive impact on others. Being a hero isn't always doing something so big and great, but mostly just doing what's right because it's the right thing to do and because it makes life better for others. A great example of a hero would be Spiderman because he helps protect people from crime and danger, he shows that he is very caring, and shows lots of courage. He is an example of what anyone would describe as a great hero. Spiderman is a great example of a hero because he could be doing something else, anything really, but he chooses to help fight crime in order to save the city because he believes with the powers he has, it's his duty to help protect the people from the danger that is happening around. He could be studying or working, or pretty much just leading a normal and calm life, using his powers as a little to make things easier. But he as a person decides to help fight crime and protect the people in his city because he thinks it's the right thing to do. When really, it's the police who should be doing this kind of stuff. After all, they're specifically trained and equipped to do so. And still, he believes it's his duty to do this because of his powers. He isn't getting paid to do this. He could just quit whenever he wants. It isn't a job. No–one could blame him for doing it. But he goes on. He sticks to his duty, no matter what the situation. He sticks to his morals and what he believes in, even when people try to destroy him. He has nothing to gain and everything to lose, and yet he still does it. He's a hero because he chose to sacrifice himself for the better and safety of others. Another example of why Spiderman is considered a great example of a hero is because he shows that he is a very caring person. When it comes to being a hero it's not all about solving crimes and saving lives. It's also about helping ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 57. Late Night Show Satire Just a few years ago, late night shows were a way for celebrities to promote their new movie, TV series, or music. The host would just conduct light–hearted interviews and harmless, interactive games. Jimmy Kimmel has had guests read hate tweets; James Corden has sang karaoke while driving guest stars; Jimmy Fallon has competed in lip sync battles against guests; SNL has invited guests to temporarily replace Pandora. Now, instead of simple comedy, some hosts are injecting political commentary in their news updates and monologues. Over the last year, late night television ratings have shifted. Fiery shows like "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee" and "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" have seen an influx of viewers; whereas the apolitical "Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" has begun to decline. TV preferences, show content, and social dynamics have transitioned to be more political, demonstrating that our society is becoming more "tribal," more group oriented. The desire to watch someone with the same opinions as us has encouraged comedians to alter their content. Furthermore, they have become more overt in their beliefs because of the viewers. If viewers did not want to see someone bashing Trump, they would not tune in. But people choose to watch. They want to see someone make fun of Trump. The Media is enormously powerful and leading and will influence people's opinions on everything. There are plenty of stories in the media that will change the public's perception of science or even make them see a new perception. Sometimes these stories are just written to scare the public into believing a certain thing just so they can sell their stories. The tabloid newspaper is the Sun and the broadsheet newspaper is the Times. Firstly I will analyse the story written by the Sun, this tabloid covered the same story as the Times and therefore we can find out their intentions. The Sun had the following bold headline "Deadly strain confirmed", I can clearly see from the start that they are trying to create a scare in the public and capture the reader's attention very fast, this is because they don't tell you what deadly strain they are talking about, if I were to see this in a newspaper lying around I would pick it up because it already got me worried and caught my attention. This has made me think, are they trying to inform the reader or just trying to sell their story? You only learn what the deadly strain is after you read paragraph 1 so this proves my point. On the 3rd paragraph the Sun states the following "the swan had the strain which can be fatal to humans." Instead of just using "the swan had the H5N1 strain" the Sun chooses to create more of an impact by using the word "fatal" and implying it to humans. This makes the beginning of the article to cause fear, evoke an element of alarm and perhaps imply that the readers should be fearful for their own health. Their main findings are that the central issue concerns not structure or systems but behavior and how to alter it (Farris, 2008). The success of the changes will depend on the ability of the managers to show their commitment to change and motivate the employees to do the same. It leaves the audience in the position of having to consider opposing factual assertions, often without enough info to properly choose that one side is clearly right, and the other side is striving to create doubt with propaganda. • 65. My Experience In High School High school started for me in August, and it was my freshman year. My arsenal of pens, pencils, and binders were ready to be used. Also, I purchased a burly backpack, chic clothes, and swaggy shoes. The school supplies were supposed to impress the teachers while the aesthetics were supposed to impress the girls. Only one worked out. Before school started, I woke up 30 minutes before school to keep my body hygienic. Brushing my teeth, cleaning my retainers, styling my hair, walk to school. And even after school, it remained as a casual schedule: hit the gym, take a shower, eat dinner, start homework. Sooner or later, I adapted into this mundane routine that seemed normal to me. Despite the dull and casual routine, the weekends never followed a straightforward plan. They were always spontaneous and exciting. One weekend could be partying with my friends; the other time could be hanging out with my cat, Baron. His chubby belly and snow–white fur made him more charming than colorful peacock and even his blue eyes glistened better than a baby's. The anticipation of Saturday and Sunday motivated me to push through the rigorous school days. I looked forward to having a whole day free with Baron. Whenever I took him outside, there were chill and brisk breezes that blew the luscious green grass, tilting uniformly in one direction. As Iain Ellis, who has a Ph.D in American Culture Studies, said, "Today's political humor infects, inflects, and injects into our national state of affairs"(Ellis 150). In relation to Ellis' quote, the idea of utilizing humor as a political tool subverted my perception on humor, and such utilization has spread through not only in democratic countries, but also in countries like Egypt. Pre Traditional And Non Traditional Media Over the last fifteen to twenty years, and especially since 2008, more and more Americans are getting their news from non–traditional media sources such as on–line news or social media. Few things have changed so significantly as the media, and the way in which Americans consume information. Non–traditional news programs such as the Daily Show and the Colbert Report have become increasingly popular. Although these shows may be dismissed by some as legitimate news sources, studies show viewers of Stewart and Colbert are among the best informed in the country. To maximize the exposure of his show to viewers, Weinman references how, "At a time when other TV studios are hoarding their content, trying to keep it on their own sites, Oliver 's producers have made a deliberate decision to free up his routines and make them as widely accessible as possible". Weinman points out key segments are uploaded to the show 's official account on YouTube the day after Oliver's show airs. Punctuality: Monochronic And Polychronic Culture Punctuality : Monochronic and Polychronic Culture Marissa Gross BT Halim Help University One of the cultures depicted in the video included a country without clocks. This raises the question, how are people ever on time? In most of the western culture, punctuality is a social norm. It is easy to assume that the whole world views the concept of being punctual similarly, despite having a few minor alterations. For example, Malaysia's idea of punctuality, or also known to locals as 'Malaysian Time' is a concept where people are still considered punctual, even if they are slightly late.
