11. HYBRID SEED PRODUCTION OF CASTOR
 For production of a single cross hybrid seed ,
Lines giving a 1 : 1 ratio of pistillate and heterozygous monoecious
plants are used .
In the crossing plot , the latter are rogued out 1 – 5 days before
flowering starts .
Female plants are then cross pollinated by a selected male pollinator
line , planted in every 6th or 8th row .
As many as 6 roguings may be necessary to keep self pollination to a
minimum .
 The hybrid seed can also be produced by the use of 90 to 100 %
pistillate lines , this eliminates roguing but hybrid seed so produced
would not be entirely uniform.
