13. According to the ILO, in 2002 there were an estimated 6 million children worldwide in slavery. This number includes an estimated 5.7 million children in forced and bonded labor. Not included in this estimate are the 1.8 million children in prostitution and pornography, and approximately 600,000 children used in illicit activities such as drug production or trafficking (Glind 157).
16. The United States Department of Labor has released a list of products imported into the United States that are likely tainted by forced and/or child labor. Under the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2005 the Bureau of International Labor Affairs is required to compile the report to educate consumers and inform the general public about what products are tainted by slavery.
