2. Condor Bird of Andes:
The Andean Condor (Vultur gryphus) is a
species of South American bird in the New
World vulture family Cathartidae and is the
only member of the genus Vultur. Found in
the Andes mountains and adjacent Pacific
coasts of western South America, it has the
largest wingspan ( at 3.2 m or 10.5 ft ) of
any land bird.
Condor Bird of California:
The California Condor (Gymnogyps
californianus) is a New World vulture, the
largest North American land bird. This
condor inhabits northern Arizona and
southern Utah (including the Grand Canyon
area and Zion National Park), coastal
mountains of central and southern
California, and northern Baja California.
Although other fossil members are known, it
is the only surviving member of the genus
Gymnogyps.

the neck and, especially in the male, large white patches on the wings.
-The head and neck are nearly featherless, and are a dull red color, which
may flush and therefore change color in response to the bird's emotional
state.
-Inthe male, there is a wattle on the neck and a large, dark red comb or
caruncle on the crown of the head. Unlike most birds of prey, the male is
larger than the
female.
4. Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Aves
Order: Incertae sedis, Falconiformes, Accipitriformes,
Family: Cathartidae
Genus: Vultur Linnaeus, 1758
Species: V. gryphus
The Andean Condor is found in South America in the Andes, including the
Santa Marta Mountains. In the north, its range begins in Venezuela and
Colombia, where it is extremely rare, then continues south along the Andes in
Ecuador, Peru, and Chile, through Bolivia and western Argentina to the Tierra
del Fuego.[22]
In the early nineteenth century, the Andean Condor bred from western
Venezuela to Tierra del Fuego, along the entire chain of the Andes, but its
range has been greatly reduced due to human activity. Its habitat is mainly
composed of open grasslands and alpine areas up to 5,000 m (16,000 ft) in
elevation.
5. -The plumage is black with patches of white on the underside of the wings and the
head is largely bald, with skin color ranging from gray on young birds to yellow and
bright orange on breeding adults.
-Its huge 3.0 m (9.8 ft) wingspan is the largest of any North American bird, and its
weight of up to 12 kg (26 lb) makes it nearly equal the Trumpeter Swan, the largest
among native North American bird species.
-The condor is a scavenger and eats large amounts of carrion. It is one of the
world's longest-living birds, with a lifespan of up to 60 years.
6. Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Aves
Order: Incertae sedis (disputed)
Family: Cathartidae
Genus: Gymnogyps Lesson, 1842
Species: G. californianus
The condors live in rocky shrubland, coniferous forests, and oak
savannas.[1] They are often found near cliffs or large trees, which
they use as nesting sites. Individual birds have a huge range and
have been known to travel up to 250 km (150 mi) in search of
carrion.
There are two sanctuaries dedicated to this bird, the Sisquoc
Condor Sanctuary in the San Rafael Wilderness[31] and the Sespe
Condor Sanctuary in the Los Padres National Forest. These areas
were chosen because of their prime condor nesting habitat.
7. The conclusion of this presentation is about, that the two
birds that have been included in the group of rare
endangered.
Judging from the map of their populations, very small area
to breed.
Moreover, the threat of forest fires, wild hunters, and
pollution narrow down their area for free.
Probably from the many birds condor only partly to
escape from the threat of extinction, and maybe we will
not see them again in the future, we can only see from the
rest of their bones.
Lets preserve and save endangered species and other
animals, so that we do not regret it in the future.
Thank you very much for your kind attention and
cooperation, should there is any mistake, please accept
our sincere apology. We are all here to learn and study.
