Racism And Hate Crimes
In the current world that we Americans live in, there is an issue with different races being oppressed, and as those races fight to get their rights, white
people don't like not being in the spotlight. White people also like to claim that "We can be racially oppressed" but in reality, they can't.
"I, an ethnic minority woman, cannot be racist or sexist towards white men because racism and sexism describe structures of privilege based on race
and gender and therefore women of color and minority genders cannot be racist or sexist, since we do not stand to benefit from such a system." Bahar
Mustafa (Goldsmith's University)

Neither the hatred of men nor the hatred of thin bodies has ever caused any widespread, systematic harm against men or thin bodies. Throughout
American history, women have been similarly subjected to national laws and systems created to oppress them, such as the fact that until the 19th
century, a woman did not exist as a separate entity from her father, brother or husband, and that until the 1920s, women were denied the right to vote,
to get a divorce and own property. From this came a deeply embedded system of systemic sexism that still exists today, which includes things like

The Controversy About Feminism
In the minds of many, feminism is confused with misandry, the belief that women should be more powerful than men; however, this could not be
further from the truth. Feminism is women, men, and nonbinaries taking a stand, together, for equality. Fighting for unshaved female legs, fighting for
late night walks through the park completely alone, and completely safe. Fighting for higher rates of self esteem and complete acceptance without
judgment. Feminism tells males that it is okay to cry and show emotion. Feminism teaches the world that we are all the same, that we should strive
for a better world for all. Feminism is the fight for equal rights and equal treatment in all areas of society, regardless of gender or sexual identity.

The Deepest Scandal In The 1920's
In the 1920's Crime was a big deal, with prohibition, gangs, and murders there was a lot going on in New York City and the newspapers captured it
all. In the 20th century, there were many Newspapers, including the Daily News, the New York Tribune, the New York Herald, and most of all the

Gender Inequality
Society today often only addresses one side of the gender inequality issue: the grievances of women. Feminists have fought against the ingrained
tradition of women as housewives with no rights and being looked down upon as the lesser sex. The women's rights movement in the United States
has worked tirelessly since 1848 to fight for rights and break down gender barriers. Misogyny and gender constructs, such as the ideal of beauty, hold
women back in various aspects of their lives as discussed in the articles "Marked Women" by Deborah Tannen and "A Woman's Beauty: Put Down or
Power Source" by Susan Sontag. Men are viewed as the dominant sex and in our patriarchal society, they have all the rights women do not get to
enjoy. This gender gap... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not wearing makeup is an unmarked decision for men while for women, it will mark them differently in the eyes of others. Today, if a girl decides
not to wear makeup to school, she is bombarded with questions like "Are you sick?" or "Are you tired?" Girls are then judged if they wear too much
makeup, if they do not wear it correctly, if they do not wear enough, or if they choose to not wear it at all. Wearing makeup is used to determine
whether a woman looks professional, put–together, or attractive, and if it is not worn women are marked to be without any of these characteristics.
Women cannot stay unmarked since every action will define her character, even if it is negative or false definition.
Not only is a woman's appearance judged to reveal her character, but there is also an expected standard of beauty for women to maintain. In the
essay "A Woman 's Beauty: Put Down or Power Source," Susan Sontag discusses how the ideal of beauty has now become a duty for woman. Women
are judged into parts, and one part of a woman's body can determine their beauty in the eyes of others. In the 21st century, girls are taught that beauty is
to have plump lips, big breasts, hairless legs, a flat stomach, a tiny waistline, a thigh gap, and other

Misandry Feminism
Feminism. In today's modern age, when most people hear that word, they cringe and think of ugly, hairy women ejecting hatred towards men, women
that think they are subordinate and higher than every man out there, and women that desire nothing more than to emasculate the opposite sex. If they
took the time to educate themselves, they could learn that feminism and misandry are two very different words. As Oxford dictionary describes it,
Misandry is a hatred of men while Feminism is the equality of the sexes. With phrases like "Women's turn to dominate!" and "All men are pigs!" I can
understand why some people think that misandry equates to feminism. To encourage dialogue between men and women in addressing these issues,
there must be an end in viewing feminists as misandrists. Instead of empowering all genders, it puts them down. The misconception about feminism
comes from a lack of understanding what feminists' goals are. The main goal being gender equality. To achieve economic and social equality, we must
acknowledge the three reasons why it is still relevant today; gender roles, the wage gap, and rape culture. Ever since the Seneca Falls Convention in
1848, the first convention for women's rights in the Unites States, feminism has become an essential movement that our world needs to progress. This
convention was a movement that was organized by two abolitionists who met at the 1840 World Anti– Slavery Convention in London, Lucretia Mott
and Elizabeth Cady

Josephine Szany Research Paper
The most vicious female serial killers are Josephine Szany and Vera Renczi. Josephine Szany was born in Germany and Vera Renczi was born in
Romania. Though they are quite different, they are also incredibly similar. Both Vera and Josephine were inspired after they both suffered betrayal of
the opposite sex. Renczi's first husband at the time was caught having an affair with another woman. She then later, supposedly killed her husband by
putting arsenic in his wine and told her family of his unfaithfulness and abandonment of her and their only son. Szanys promised fiancГ©

Both Renczi and Szany went on to murder countless men before they were caught and imprisoned. Soon after Renczi's first husband's disappearance,

Third Wave Feminism
Have you ever seen a slut walk? I mean women walk around naked saying that they are not asking for attention. Feminism originated in New York,
1848. "The first wave of feminism in the United States began with the Seneca Falls Convention, the first women's rights convention, held at the
Wesleyan Chapel in Seneca Falls, New York, on July 19 and 20, 1848." (Encyclopedia of Women and Religion in North America:) Third Wave
Feminism started in the mid–90's. ("Four Waves of Feminism.") More women hate third wave feminism than men. Third Wave Feminism claims that
North America is a rape culture, that women are always right, and that all men are the same. We have no need for Third Wave Feminism. Although
people may claim that we need Third Wave Feminism in the United States there are many reasons to prove that we indeed do not need this cancer in
our country. "Feminism is Cancer" – Milo Yiannopoulos. Rape Culture is a term that was coined by feminists in the United States in the 1970's. It
was designed to show the ways in which society blamed victims of sexual assault and normalized male sexual violence. ("What is Rape Culture?") "
We're told that 1 in 5 women will be raped, this isn't true. I'm not sure why this truth should be difficult... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Argumentative Essay On Republicans
If I had to define the word Democratic, personally I think it means rule by the majority or a monarchy or a plutocracy. It actually depends on your
own thoughts or how you may look at it. When it comes to Abortion, Democrats, it a woman's right to choose and therefore be legal as to Republicans,
it should not be legal and the government should restrict it as such. When it comes to gun control laws, Democrats, more gun control laws are needed
to address a seemly growing problem with guns, Republicans oppose more gun control laws, citing that it not what the Constitution calls for.
On to discrimination and Democrats, it's up to the government to step in and provide a "net "to victims of this practice. When it comes to republicans,

Feminist, I think love to hide behind the word equality, for the purposes of hiding their true nature and/or agendas. These kinds of Women I believe
hate men and would rather be the more dominant species.
Conservative is the very far right side of the republicans, little government, family values, protestant, etc. Conservatives are more strict and are more
thought of in the south and lesser–party–like places, for example the East Coast, they have to fight for the right to bear arms, the death penalty, harsher
punishment for things that may seem immoral to some people. Conservative equals to traditional values, law and order and/or government assistances
of businesses
Liberals are on the very far left side of the spectrum, gay rights, complete separation of church and state, pro–abortion and basically against anything
that requires a person to acknowledge. For example you can think of Hollywood being Liberal, save the earth, promiscuity, relaxed laws, and ACLU,
things of that nature. Liberals equals to personal freedom and government assistance of

Women During The 19th Century Essay
Although corsets at this time led to broken bones and a death in 1665 (Olsen 74), this garment was worn throughout the 18th century. During this
period, Turkish harem women wore clothes most similar to ours. They wore cloaks over their chemise and loose trousers while also being veiled
(Olsen 59). This era marked conservatism in women's clothes. During the first–wave movement, fashion did not become dynamic until the 1900s. In
1851, dress reformers tried to popularize a pair of baggy pants beneath a knee–length tunic (Olsen 125). Although this effort was unsuccessful, it marks
the beginning of dress reform and sixty–five years later, hem lengths would rise by ten inches (Olsen 177). The 1920s marked the era of the flappers,
when the use of makeup became commonplace and women wore knee–length dresses and bared more skin (Olsen 207, 214). A few decades after, pants
would be allowed, introducing scandalous shorts along with it. Although heavily criticized, the stigma of shorts lessened, showing us more familiar
styles. Dress reform went full force in this era.
Fashion during the second–wave feminism was marked the increase of more comfortable clothing. Women were primarily working in factories for the
war effort, so their dress was consisted mainly of pants and high collared shirts []. Fashion in this era would eventually go towards flashy padded
shoulders and colorful pants [].
The 90's in the United States were insane in terms of fashion. When analyzing third–wave feminist

Feminist Definition Essay
"Feminist"
I'm in 3rd grade at recess when an older boy comes up to me,
"You're too tall and no boy will ever like you."
I'm in 5th grade in class when *SNAP* the boy behind be reaches up and flicks the strap of my training bra.
I'm in 8th grade and discovering a new love of black eyeliner, a friend's older brother stands next to me,
"You shouldn't do your makeup like that because boys will think you're fake.".
And when I told an adult?
"Boys will be boys." –Teacher, Principle, etc.
Feminist. Wow, that's a word with some stigma right? It's a powerful word with a lot of both negative and positive views. But what doesfeminism
really mean? How about the social, political, and economical equality of the sexes?
I found out about feminism in Jr High. It is thanks one of my best friends, who helped me make this discovery, Jayden, I am eternally grateful, and
shall be for the rest of my life. If it wasn't for feminism I wouldn't be able to go to school, or own property, or to even be my own person. I wouldn't
have realized my self–worth. I love feminism for the fact that it isn't just for girls, but for all genders. Feminism is the reason why girls can go to
school, own property, be a human being. It helped me understand the basic right we should have as human beings, equality. Although in many parts of
the world these things are not true, but it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Misogyny And Misandry
Misogyny is considered a strong hatred or dislike of women and misandry, is considered as strong hatred or dislike of men. Both Misogyny and
misandry can be seen through sexual discrimination, hostility, denigration, violence, and sexual objectification. However, misogyny can also be seen
through male supremacist ideas. The mistreatment of women in the United States is part of a larger problem of cultural misogyny (Gailey &
Prohaska, 2006). Men and women are consistently sexually objectified because of the acceptance of objectification in the Western culture. Both men
and women need to be empowered so that they can be confident in who they are as person to avoid the detrimental effects of objectification. Sexual

This idea needs to be taught and accepted in both the school settings and the community. Sexual empowerment is when a person is confident with
who they are as a person both physically and mentally in terms of sexuality (Erchull & Liss, 2014). Instead of men and women being objectified
through individuals and the media people need to stand for who they are as an individual. Being objectified because of one's sex needs to be seen as a
negative symptom of being male or female (Stock, 2015). People should also feel confident about their sexual desires and not try to fit in based on
the societal "norm" for what is acceptable. In advertising, there is an attempt to see empowerment trying to be displayed, but in reality there is
women are often displayed as actively seeking and enjoying sex as a way to sell products, not because they are fulfilling sexual empowerment. These
advertisements are not trying to help men and women, but rather set a standard of sexuality. However, these images are used for business because sex
sells. Many feminists are able to recognize the use of language and imagery that actually contradicts empowerment (Stock, 2015). Even though the
definition of sexual empowerment varies men and women should continue to push for more positive views of women and men in the media so that
there can be an end to the acceptance of sexual

Modern Day Feminism : The Fight For Equal Rights
Modern–day Feminism
The definition of feminism states "the belief that men and woman should have equal rights and opportunities" ("feminism"). Modern feminism is no
longer about equality and is in fact counterproductive to the cause. The fight for equal rights has been transformed into a fight for privilege, waged
against causes insignificant in the big picture of gender equality; causes like manspreading, cat calls, air conditioning, and representation in video
games. We are waging a war in a new and changed society, using an old definition of what the movement is meant to be. Modern–day feminism is now
obsolete in the Western World because the fight for equal rights between genders has been won.
First–wave feminism is a brand of feminism that refers to the early 19th and 20th centuries, characterized by the fight that was primarily waged in
favor of woman's suffrage and legal issues. Second–wave was increasingly radical, and is the basis upon which modern–day feminist ideology is based
(Eichler). This movement spanned from the 1960s to the 80s, with dominant issues being sexuality and reproductive rights. By the year 1989 in
Canada, the United Nations has enacted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, equal pay and fair employment legislation has been passed across
every province in the country and the Supreme Court has decided that sexual harassment is a form of sexual discrimination ("Women's Rights").
Legally, woman have all the rights that men have. Using this

Misandry Jane Eyre
Men are sexist creatures who deserve every cruel act they've inflicted on women for centuries. So say the radical feminists of the 21rst century who
follow misandry, which is the hatred of men. Charlotte Bronte stood for the opposite as she believed in equality for all. She was against the public
view that only men were allowed to be in the political and public spheres of society while women didn't even own themselves. In spite of the efforts
produced by the feminists of the 19th century, misandry has created a border between the feminists beliefs and and values. Furthermore, Charlotte
Bronte's values of social class and gender equality in Jane Eyre are perhaps in response to Abigail Adams' "Remember the Ladies." This reaction to

she illustrates a solution into understanding that women are the same as men as women are made from the rib of Adam. Another solution is given by
Adams who mentions "all men would be tyrants if they could"(line 8), which she offers a solution "Give up the harsh title of master for the more
tender and endearing one of friend"(lines 14–15), in which she pleads that men would become a friend if only they didn't imitate god. She reinstates
the idea of having equality if only society would revise their values. Furthermore, the solution for society is for men and women to start from the

Sexism : The Definition Of Sexism In Society
Sexism Sexism is defined as "prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination on the basis of sex." Sexism is also another term for sex discrimination and
/or gender discrimination. Sexism is a social issue because of the unequal rights and privileges between men and women, but also because of the way
it promotes women and men to act on a basis of ancestral roles. Sexisms grip on society is a long and painful history, that hasn't fully evolved and may
never. Though sexism does effect men, it mostly effects women. Women haven't always had the same privileges and rights as men, they weren't
allowed to vote, could not join the military, had little job opportunities, and rarely had a college education. Whereas, men typically were able to join
the military, were allowed to vote, own property, have jobs, and usually were able to obtain a college education. It was commonly believed that
women should remain in their homes, to raise the children and take care of their home and husband. While men should be at work to pay the bills,
and put food on the table. Different countries have taken different steps to advance women's rights, and have made many great changes. "In 1994, ten
countries had women as the heads of their governments, however, in more than 100 countries there were no woman serving on their legislative
bodies" (Busse, Greene, Haynes). Despite women's efforts to receive equal pay with men, "70% of the worlds poor are women" (Busse, Green,

My APUSH Class: The Empowerment Of Women
There was no instantaneous shift in my beliefs when I met them. However, upon meeting my best friends, I was introduced to a perspective that would
come to formulate my own.
Initially, the word feminist weighed heavy on my tongue, foreign and full of skepticism because at sixteen I had a fallacious view of the girls who
wore the title like a homecoming crown. My APUSH class proved me wrong. The girls at my table taught me that feminism was far more than unshaven
armpits and misandry as society so often reduced it to; instead I learned it to be about empowerment, the uplift of women to rightful equality. That was
a value my mother instilled in me from early childhood ––– that I, a woman, am invariably equal to a man so the incredulity ... Show more content on

I realized that feminism was rooted in equality but branches into so many other issues like combating rape culture or the inclusiveness of
LGBTQA+ and POC in the movement. And a campaign that supported the eradication of toxic societal norms was something I could
wholeheartedly get behind. Before this discovery, however, I lived in blissful ignorance because I shared the same sentiment as most teens my
age; you're a kid, you can't make a difference. I did not stand for anything of importance besides the occasional bandwagon belief because what did
my opinions matter? Did I even have my own? Or were my words simply regurgitations of the ideologies my parents fed me? At sixteen years old,
I was unsure. Give it a year, some heated conflict with my parents as well as a relearning of values and I would be. At seventeen years old, I fully
understood what I chose to back those beginning days in APUSH but, more importantly, the significance of having something to stand for. I realized
that a person's beliefs characterize who they are and before I became a feminist; I didn't have much of an identity –– I knew who I wanted to be but not
who I was. So, in a way, discovering feminism and the girls at my table who first educated me helped me unearth who I am today. And I'm proud of
who I am, proud that I am no longer the girl that shames, the girl who is unwarrantedly spiteful, the girl that puts others down. Not

Feminism Definition Essay
What is feminism? The definition is often argued over by feminists and anti–feminists. Feminists believe that the expectations for women are far too
high to be attainable for most–they are expected to be the perfect weight, the perfect height, the perfect everything in the eyes of society in order to be
seen as worth anything. Feminists believe that women are seen by society as less powerful, less smart, simply less than men. Feminists also believe that
feminism promotes gender equality, not misandry. They aim to fix this. Anti
–feminists, on the other hand believe that feminism is women being
obnoxious and putting themselves above men. They think feminism in 2015 in unnecessary. Women already have the right to vote, what more could
they possibly want? This oppression is just one reason why feminism exists and–in my opinion–is extremely important in today's world.
We so often hear people talk about their high expectations for women, we usually don't even give it a second thought anymore. Society expects women
to be thin–but not too thin, be fit–but not too fit, be society's definition of "beautiful". Whatever that is. Women are judged no matter what they look

Misandry Thesis
No, woman's rights or FEMINISM is not off–base. It is a political and social development that looks for EQUAL treatment of ladies and men
Individuals need to acknowledge then woman's rights, misandry and matriarchy are three altogether different things. Matriarchy is indistinguishable to
patriarchy, with the special case that the parts are saved and the lady is the power figure, women's liberation does NOT bolster that. Misandry is the
statement of disdain towards the male sexual orientation, women's liberation does NOT bolster that, either. Women's liberation strikes to right some
exceptionally clear and harmful medications and social convictions towards ladies until they are equivalent to men. It is extremely straightforward. The
motivation behind why this development was named "woman's rights" is that ladies are thought to be abused more in correlation to men. It is much
like prejudice towards dark individuals. Misandry exists, however it doesn't hurt men socially or politically. While misogyny has brought about the

Women Grievances Of Women
Often society today only addresses one side of the gender inequality issue; the grievances of women. Feminists have fought the ingrained tradition of
women subjected to life as a housewife with no rights since women are looked down upon as the lesser sex. Women have spent hundred of years
trying to break down gender barriers and constructs. Less discussed in the social issues of today are the grievances men face. The issues of misogyny
and misandry are discussed by the authors of "Marked Women," "A Woman's Beauty," "Man Bashing," and "The Men We Carry in Our Lives."
Although men lead lives that are not absent from gender discrimination, women have historically and still currently oppressed by men in society and
still fighting for equal rights.
Women are judged upon every choice and every action they take. Being marked means that a judgement can be formed about one's character. An
unmarked form of a word means "what you think of when you're not thinking anything special," a luxury that women do not have. In the article
"Marked Women," Deborah Tannen elaborates on how women are inherently marked in everything they do. Clothing that are too tight will mark a
woman as promiscuous while loose clothing would be marked as lazy. Makeup is also definitive mark on the character of a woman. Tannen states in
the article how "you couldn't say the men didn't wear makeup in the sense that you could say a woman didn't wear makeup," which demonstrates how
a judgement can always be

Rhetorical Analysis Of Emma Watson's Heforshe Speech
Actress Emma Watson, in her speech, HeForShe, strives to inform every citizen of the UN of the real problem of gender inequality, and encourage
them to get involved in fixing this issue. Watson's purpose is to eliminate gender stereotypes, and to describe the goal of the HeForShe campaign. She
adopts a persuasive tone in order to instill an eagerness for change in the citizens of the United Nations.
Watson begins her speech by addressing the importance of everyone's involvement in the fight against gender inequality, and explaining the true nature
of feminism, which is often misinterpreted as misandry. She appeals to the ethics of her audience by describing rights that are often stripped from
women, such as equal pay, bodily autonomy, and equal respect among male peers, as human rights. To convey her point clearly she repeatedly uses the
phrase "I think it is right that...," followed by these rights. Using repetition, she captivates the audience's attention, engrossing them in her purpose. The

Woman's Beauty: Put Down or Power Source?" by Susan Sontag, "The Men We Carry in Our Minds" by Scott Russell Sanders, and "Man Bashing:
Trivial Pursuits or a Truth with Consequences?" by Warren Farrell discuss these two sides togender roles. While Sanders and Farrell make some quality
points about men's struggle in society, overall, Tannen and Sontag present a stronger argument about the challenges women face in today's society.
Tannen and Sontag argue that women are made to be sex objects by society; they are pressured to try to look beautiful while also being degraded as

Sander's essay focuses on his childhood when men were working in manual labor jobs for the most part and women largely staying at home. This is
not the case in today's society where women are also expected to get jobs most of the time. In this way, the burden on men to bring in the money has
lessoned but women still face the pressure of being beautiful. Tannen exposes this more current set of problems for women when she discusses the
expectation that women look "presentable" at work. She writes, "The range of women's hairstyles is staggering, but a woman whose hair has no
particular style is perceived as not caring about how she looks, which can disqualify her for many positions, and will subtly diminish her as a person
in the eyes of some." Whereas men do not have to think about their hairstyles and general appearance for work ––men's hair has to be unusual to be
marked and no makeup is unmarked for men–– women must consider how much makeup and what hair–do they will do. Every style for women is
marked and not taking the time to decide on a style marks a woman as not put together. Even the arguments that Farrell brings up for what problems
men face in today's society ––which are often invalid–– seem inconsequential compared to the points Tannen and Sontag make about the daily struggles
women face. Farrell makes points such as the one that self–help writers voice only women's side of the argument about toilet seats being put down after
men use the toilet. "No one suggests thanking the man for putting it up so he gets nothing on it. And no one asks why a woman expects the toilet to
always be as it is in women's rooms, and never as half the toilets are in men's rooms: urinals," he debates. Practically, his idea that all

Men are seen as success objects. They have traditionally had the burden of being the breadwinners. The authors argue that while men were in a
position of more power in a few cases in the past, overall, they faced just as much of a struggle as women; they were expected to provide for women.
Sanders describes the men he knew as a child, explaining,
"..the men I knew labored with their bodies. They were marginal farmers, just scraping by, or welders, steel–workers, carpenters; they swept floors, dug
ditches, mined coal, or drove trucks, their forearms ropy with muscle; they trained horses, stoked furnaces, built tires, stood on assembly lines wrestling
parts onto cars and refrigerators. They got up before light, worked all day long whatever the weather, and when they came home at night they looked as
though somebody had been whipping them."
He illustrates how working class men faced the struggle of working dusk to dawn in harsh conditions doing arduous manual labor. As he came to
find out, the men who were not in this majority were those in combat. He further explains that only a few men had the privilege of working a desk
job, let alone being "the boss". Sanders asks what joys and privileges of the earth men stole from women. "The right to go five days a week, twelve

Libertarian Feminism Essay
The word "feminist" has caused turmoil wherever it is uttered. It has gained a negative connotation, and is often mistaken with misandry. While these
claims may be true for a minimal number of feminists, the truth is that in order to get an accurate representation on what feminists actually believe
one would have to go to the source. The two main problems with that, are that first of all, it is "not rigidly structured or led by a single figure or
group", and most importantly there is not just one kind of feminism, there are hundreds in each aspect of our life (Tavaana, 2014). The most under
represented group within feminism is the kind that is in the government. Not all have the same theories, and therefore, do not have the same ... Show

Libertarian feminists claim that the "root of female oppression lies in women's ability to bear children" (Gibbs, 2006, p.g 71–93). Liberal feminists on
the other hand focus on personal and political autonomy, and see the root of female oppression to be the existence of gender roles. Among all these
different kind of feminism, a single political agenda binds them together, a common purpose; gender equality. Like most things, there are
misconceptions about certain subjects. For example the media tends to focus on feminist extremist, and (knowingly or unknowingly) perpetuates the
stereotype that feminists hate men, and that their agenda includes the eventual societal elevation above men. Nothing could be further from the truth
since the actual definition of feminism is, "The advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men." (Oxford
Dictionary, 2014). Here we see that it is not a competition to the top of the pyramid, rather it is an effort to join the sexes in equality. The problem that
arises from the definition is the lack of explanation of the methods, and ideologies, and that is breeding ground for speculation and therefore
misconceptions. The solution to this problem is simple; we must acknowledge that there are different methods employed by different women to reach
equality. The famous televangelist, Pat Robertson had this to say about feminism in his letter to an equal rights amendment to the

"I think every woman in our culture is a feminist. They may refuse to articulate it, but if you were to take any woman back 40 years and say 'Is that
the world you want to live in?' they'd say no." said a woman herself. The fight for women's' rights in America over the past decades has challenged
existing gender stereotypes and power dynamics in the socio–economic sphere of our culture. The fight then was for equal rights. It challenged the
school of thought that women can only be truly happy and fulfilled through marriage and motherhood. Women were in dire need to be recognized as

This group of radical modern feminists' interpretation of feminism in comparison to the true essence of the movement as it first came about decades
ago is no longer the same because now it's not about asserting power in relation to, its about asserting power over. The true meaning of feminism has
been diluted in the attempt to shift the power dynamic from a patriarchal to a matriarchal society. Feminism is perceived to be negative because radical
feminists have linked it synonymously with man hating. To be a feminist now means to hate the male sex, which couldn't be further from the truth.
Therefore, it is crucial for the American woman to reject the philosophy of radical modern feminists, to fully grasp what feminism really is.
To understand just how the wave of feminism today contrasts the movement in the past decades, it is necessary to get a perspective on what social
constructs against women lead to the women's rights movement in the first place. Historical overview is essential in solidifying the overarching
principles of the movement when it began. As exemplified by Farley's texts on "Just Love", women have long been viewed as property and not as
citizens. Several cultures and traditions allowed the husbands to be the aggressors in a marriage, and in relation, made the wife submissive. The aim of
marriage was procreation and compulsory motherhood. It was the duty

Examples Of Feminism And Misandry
Feminism, Misandry, Sexism and Patriarchy The word 'feminist ' to me means a person, not generally a woman, who fights for women and their rights,
it means that a person wants equality for both men and women
Feminism started out as a movement which helped women gain rights. It was a social, political movement and it helped women win the right to vote,
and so it helped to decrease the wage gap at work, it helped women take maternity leave from work.
Feminism helped women gain rights to work as judges, it inspired popular figures to speak about it, it helped women fight against the crimes and abuse
etc.
It was empowering and liberating when it made women realize that only they could control their lives, what they chose to work as, what they ... Show

It'd rather become a word merely used by women, a word used for power. We still need feminism, While the feminists have achieved a lot, we still have
a long way to go.
Feminism can only cease to exist when women achieve equality with men in all the spheres.Feminism needs women to be united as well, instead of
women criticizing other women because of their choice of relationships, or because of their choice to stay at home.
We need to change men in order to abolish patriarchy. We need to teach our brothers, sons, fathers and husbands about how and why patriarchy affects
women. We need to realize that gender constructs are also racist and sexist and that trans women are also women, anyone who chooses to be a
woman in spite of their assigned gender at birth is a woman and should be accepted. One shouldn't have to satisfy the society's ideas of feminism in
order to identify as a woman. The change needs to start from our homes, so as a whole, the new generation of males and femalesgrow up in a world
where patriarchy/ matriarchy is non existent and where men and women, have the freedom to express themselves in any way and without the fear of
offending people just because they don't satisfy gender

Audre Lorde's The New Misandry
When I first started to read "The New Misandry" I thought I was not going to like it. I was immediately turned off by the use of this word because it
has such a powerful social stigma. As I read more closely I appreciated her message a great deal more. I particularly liked the section where she argues
that "...hurting people makes them angry, anger turns to hate when the anger is chronic and accompanied by helplessness, and although you can bully
or shame people into not showing their anger, the only way to stop the anger is to stop the hurt"(Russ 169). This reminded me of "The Uses of
Anger" by Audre Lorde. Tactically, I do think angry can be tool for change, but I disagree that Misandry could be a productive label to use. I can see
why some people would hate men, but that does not mean I think it is healthy the person harboring all of that hatred. I want to turn to the idea of
hating Patriarchy, but I'm not sure if I am simply falling into the trap that Russ talks about at the end. Am I accepting the idea of oppression only on
the condition that the real ugly effects are ignored (Russ 170)? This is possibly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

prevalent that it has become normalized? Or perhaps it is because people are socially conditioned ignore the signs of misogyny in everyday life and
any non–normative "misandrist" behavior challenges this. It almost seems like the act of calling out misogyny makes women and queer individuals

Examples Of Being Oppressed Women
Since the beginning of time, women were oppressed, mistreated, and not equal to men. They had great reasons to fight for the rights that they deserve,
like the right to vote. But in today's world, the women who call themselves feminist believe that they are still at the same level of being oppressed as
their ancestors were. As a result, women focus what they think they don't have in society and forget about the problems most men face every day.
Feminism, although a very good practice, is abused in today's world by giving too much attention to women and not enough to men when talking about
equality.
As of now, 2016, men and women have equal rights, are treated the same in a legal matter, and both have similar ways of being oppressed. It would
make sense that there would be a group run by both men and women to push for true equality, not one run by only women saying that their goal is
equality, but in the end, only recognize oppressed women. The prejudice movement run by women with false, biased, and uneducated values affected
how the young people in this world think about men. Teenage girls don't go beyond the false accusation they would find on the internet about how
women are the only oppressed gender and as a result, join the feminist movement and continue to bash men. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Social Class And Gender Equality In Charlotte Bronte's...
Men are sexist creatures who deserve every cruel act they have inflicted on women for centuries. So say the radical feminists of the twenty–first
century who follow misandry, which is the hatred of men. In fact, nineteenth–century author, Charlotte Bronte, stood for the opposite as she believed in
equality for all. She was against the public view that only men were allowed to be in the political and public spheres of society while women did not
even own themselves. In spite of the efforts produced by feminists from the nineteenth century, misandry has created a border between these feminist's
beliefs and values to the radical feminists of the twenty–first century. Furthermore, Charlotte Bronte's values of social class and gender equality in Jane
Eyre are perhaps in response to Abigail Adams' "Remember the Ladies," in which, Adam's demonstrates the issues of societal values. These issues
continue to echo in Sarah McVeigh's interview with Jessa Crispin in "Why I'm not a feminist," where Crispin implies twenty–first–century feminists
create a backlash in society as they result in misandry.
In the nineteenth century, Charlotte Bronte experienced society's hierarchy of social class and gender stereotypes first hand. In response to society's
hierarchy, Charlotte Bronte integrates her experience of entrapment in society classes through Jane Eyre by stating, "a flock of white plumy
birds"(160). The key point Bronte emphasizes the comparison that women are like beautiful white birds

Feminism : Why Should It Exist And Be Required?
Feminism: Why Should it Exist and be Required? An American Activist by the name of Charlotte Bunch once said, "Feminism is an entire world
view or gestalt, not just a laundry list of women's issues." Feminism can be known as the broad range of ideas, approaches, and ideologies directed
towards advocating for gender equality for all. Feminism is a movement that seeks to achieve equality and social rights for everyone in all key areas
which includes; education, personal, economic, employment, cultural sphere of human endeavors. While it is said by others that feminism is only
about the women and making them the dominant gender of all, it is the changemaking of the world for gender equality and the chance for life
changing moments for women. First, feminism emphasizes the establishment for gender equality within humanity. For example, there is an
inequality with income pay between men and women leaving a gender wage gap of 21% (Hill). The average woman earns 79 cents for every
dollar earned by a man (Hill). Not only that, women of different races such as being Latina and African American have an even bigger wage gap
with a 53% and 63% wage gap between men (Hill). Why is it that because of one's gender whether male or female, there are sudden wage gaps
between the two? Feminist organizations such as HeforShe for instance, is currently on the run to establishing equal pay among genders as soon as
possible after the years of this ongoing inequality with paychecks since it was

Feminist Movement Pros/Cons
In the 1960's women in America were expected to marry in their early 20's and start a family. Back then not many women worked, most stayed at
home and took care of the children. Now, in the year 2017, women have equal rights to men and are now a very important part of the workforce.
Although the Feminist movement is giving women equal treatment to men there are also feminists who believe that women should be
indistinguishable to men, this form of radical feminism is harmful for it gives feminists a bad name.

Radical Feminism has created an area of unsureness of what is permissible to say to a female. Is it okay to compliment a woman on her dress, or is
that considered sexual harassment? This is why most choose words carefully when complimenting a woman.
There are certain compliments are offensive to women without any discussion. These types of compliments often use phrases like, "even though you
are woman" or "despite being a woman" these compliments are offensive because they suggest that being a woman is a setback and that women are
less capable than men at accomplishing something. On Sunday, June 7, 2015 Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi caused an uproar on twitter when
he "complimented" the Prime Minister of Bangladesh on her stance on terrorism by saying, "I am happy that, she, despite being a woman, has declared
zero tolerance for terrorism." Women all over the world who were rightfully outraged by Modi's comment that it's unusual for a woman to make a firm

damaging stereotypes about what it means to be a woman, and indirectly tell women that, whatever their accomplishments are, they will continue to be

Misandry and Emasculation in Disney's Beauty and the Beast
Disney's Beauty and the Beast can be seen as a very honest way of depicting how society feels about the gender roles of men and women. Firstly, of
the main characters, two out of the three are in fact males. The interesting thing about this balance is that despite there being a higher number of males
in the film, they are both shown to be at least partially villainous. Throughout the entirety of the film, the only two characters, main or otherwise, who
truly embody and possess typically masculine characteristics (chivalry, a wish to fight to protect women, strength etc) are both depicted as being
wrong, evil, and negative. The first of these two men is Gaston. Gaston is by all accounts, the villain of the piece. His great crime? He... Show more

But Beast is not only an interesting topic when discussing the hugely misandric elements of the film because of this, it is also worthy of discussion
because of the tipping point. The turning point, the face heel turn, whichever name you choose. He fully makes the transformation from villain to
victim when he meets and is guided by Belle. A woman. If we remove the fantasy and the characters, and look at it purely in terms of actions, then we
are met with this path of characterisation. Horrible, evil masculine male who cannot control himself (Villain) – Possibly a redeemable person, he has a
few feminine traits – [MEETS A WOMAN]– Fully a victim, in need of love and affection to limit his masculine traits and become a feminised
person, thus entering the stage of being worth anything in society. Yes, Beast becomes a good character, one who we are expected to sympathise
with, only when he has a feminine touch. When a woman enters the equation and puts her foot down, she brings emasculation and shame for his
maleness, and thus the process of making him "acceptable" begins. This same value is shown through sitcoms, television shows, films and every
other form of media. It's one of the most basic storylines. Man has masculine traits (sleeping with multiple partners, a biological urge, or
demonstrating and taking pride in physical prowess, also a biological and social urge) and this means that he is a bad person. But then

This anger at the women's movement is not new. It has plagued feminism throughout history. R.M Janes in her work, "On the Reception of Mary

Wollstone¬craft a 'hyena in petticoats'" (Janes 299). It is not surprising anymore that not only men, but women too have become misogynistic. What
is patriarchy's biggest win is perhaps the internalization of the various norms that the society makes women live by. Bartky has explained this idea of
invisible chains that women have adorned through Jeremy Bentham's idea of the 'Panopticon', where quoting Foucault's Discipline and Punishment,

Argumentative Essay On Hook Up Culture
There is a lot of faux–concern among conservatives about how much more promiscuous millennials are, as opposed to previous generations and how
that sexual freedom is hindering overall growth and emotional stability. Indeed, a recent study at James Madison University "hooking up or dating:
who benefits?" conducted by Carolyn Bradshaw and her colleagues, sparked an outcry for how millennials no longer care for dating, and inspired
numerous articles about the death of chivalry and romance. These concerns, however, are exaggerated. Sex is sex, and as it turns out, there are more
benefits to the no–strings–attached culture of hookups than critics suggest. In her most recent article in The Atlantic, "Boys on the Side", Hanna Rosin

Add the opportunity cost of spending time with a partner instead of actually investing that time in one's job, internship, and academic success, and

Since the beginning of history, sexism has always been a prominent barrier between
sexes. The notion that women are not on the same level as men has always been in existence. We
see that even during the book of exodus this belief stems from the creation of Eve, through a rib

reason why Adam ate the apple. Consequently Eve is blamed as being the reason mankind is not

Feminism : A Social Movement
As the world advances further into the twenty first century a new modernized form of feminism becomes more and more prominent. Referred to as
third wave feminism, it is a social movement focused on equality of the sexes. At the core this idea is simple but when applied to modern day societies
it becomes increasingly complex and even, at times, convoluted. For the most part, this particular wave of feminism is primarily concerned with first
world countries and their accompanying issues as patriarchal societies. This aspect alone elicits criticism of the movement and grounds on which some
try to use to dismiss its points. The critics of modern feminism call themselves antifeminists and aim to discredit what they believe to be an unjust
movement. Both the feminists and the antifeminists raise good arguments for the reasons behind their opinions on the issue, but both have their flaws
as well.
The most commonly cited argument of the antifeminists is that modern feminism is actually not in support of gender equality, but instead promotes the
demonization of the entire male gender as oppressors and abusers of women. To be summed up in the most basic way antifeminism is the belief that
modern feminism's arguments are incorrect or exaggerated and purposely encourage misandry. Many women don't want to openly identify as a
"feminist" because of the stigma the word comes with of being a radical man hater. Antifeminists see feminism as an attempt to paint women as victims

Wife Of Bath Character Analysis : The Wife Of Bath
Wife of Bath Analysis Essay The Canterbury Tales depict many characters that, although fictionally created by Geoffrey Chaucer, may give the reader
the opportunity to analyze and interpret their tales as a way of determining their personalities. The Wife of Bath and her prologue accurately supports
this statement, as her intentions become expounded due to her questionable actions. The Wife of Bath exhibits in her prologue that she lacks respect
and gratitude towards the men she beguiles into marriage and does so by falsely claiming direction from God. She shows not only deceit towards her
many husbands, but also does not possess the ability to care about others before herself. The Wife of Bath pursued husbands in a way that did not
benefit both sides of the marriage. She clearly admits that she does not show shame from having sexual relations with many different men, as she
simply desires sex and riches from wealthy men. Medieval civilizations did not consider this behavior appropriate, as it conflicted with ideas of
courtly love and God's word. She states that, "I am dominated by the planet Venus in my senses, and my heart is dominated by the planet Mars"
(Chaucer 626). This statement supports that her body and desires only seek pleasure, while her true soul remains conflicted, unable to truly love.
At the end of each marriage she appears as the one who reigns victorious and still willing to remarry: "I boast of one thing for myself; in the end I
had the better in every way" (430). The Wife does not have respect for her multiple wedded spouses, and would rather remain happy when they
leave her than to flood herself with emotion of sadness. The Wife of Bath exceedingly explains in her prologue of how God supports her behavior
and that no formalities of the time discord with her actions. She justifies her situation by telling of how King Solomon, "...Had more than one wife,
and I wish to God it were lawful for me to be refreshed half as often" (50). She gave a multitude of quotations and scripture lines that she twisted into
supporting her non–religious motives of deceiving men for her pleasure. One of these instances occurs with her correct yet out of context claim that "I

Racism, Hate Crimes, and Gender Inequality

  • 1. Racism And Hate Crimes In the current world that we Americans live in, there is an issue with different races being oppressed, and as those races fight to get their rights, white people don't like not being in the spotlight. White people also like to claim that "We can be racially oppressed" but in reality, they can't. "I, an ethnic minority woman, cannot be racist or sexist towards white men because racism and sexism describe structures of privilege based on race and gender and therefore women of color and minority genders cannot be racist or sexist, since we do not stand to benefit from such a system." Bahar Mustafa (Goldsmith's University) Throughout American history, there have been national laws and systems,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Neither the hatred of men nor the hatred of thin bodies has ever caused any widespread, systematic harm against men or thin bodies. Throughout American history, women have been similarly subjected to national laws and systems created to oppress them, such as the fact that until the 19th century, a woman did not exist as a separate entity from her father, brother or husband, and that until the 1920s, women were denied the right to vote, to get a divorce and own property. From this came a deeply embedded system of systemic sexism that still exists today, which includes things like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Controversy About Feminism In the minds of many, feminism is confused with misandry, the belief that women should be more powerful than men; however, this could not be further from the truth. Feminism is women, men, and nonbinaries taking a stand, together, for equality. Fighting for unshaved female legs, fighting for late night walks through the park completely alone, and completely safe. Fighting for higher rates of self esteem and complete acceptance without judgment. Feminism tells males that it is okay to cry and show emotion. Feminism teaches the world that we are all the same, that we should strive for a better world for all. Feminism is the fight for equal rights and equal treatment in all areas of society, regardless of gender or sexual identity. The first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Gender Inequality Society today often only addresses one side of the gender inequality issue: the grievances of women. Feminists have fought against the ingrained tradition of women as housewives with no rights and being looked down upon as the lesser sex. The women's rights movement in the United States has worked tirelessly since 1848 to fight for rights and break down gender barriers. Misogyny and gender constructs, such as the ideal of beauty, hold women back in various aspects of their lives as discussed in the articles "Marked Women" by Deborah Tannen and "A Woman's Beauty: Put Down or Power Source" by Susan Sontag. Men are viewed as the dominant sex and in our patriarchal society, they have all the rights women do not get to enjoy. This gender gap... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not wearing makeup is an unmarked decision for men while for women, it will mark them differently in the eyes of others. Today, if a girl decides not to wear makeup to school, she is bombarded with questions like "Are you sick?" or "Are you tired?" Girls are then judged if they wear too much makeup, if they do not wear it correctly, if they do not wear enough, or if they choose to not wear it at all. Wearing makeup is used to determine whether a woman looks professional, put–together, or attractive, and if it is not worn women are marked to be without any of these characteristics. Women cannot stay unmarked since every action will define her character, even if it is negative or false definition. Not only is a woman's appearance judged to reveal her character, but there is also an expected standard of beauty for women to maintain. In the essay "A Woman 's Beauty: Put Down or Power Source," Susan Sontag discusses how the ideal of beauty has now become a duty for woman. Women are judged into parts, and one part of a woman's body can determine their beauty in the eyes of others. In the 21st century, girls are taught that beauty is to have plump lips, big breasts, hairless legs, a flat stomach, a tiny waistline, a thigh gap, and other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Misandry Feminism Feminism. In today's modern age, when most people hear that word, they cringe and think of ugly, hairy women ejecting hatred towards men, women that think they are subordinate and higher than every man out there, and women that desire nothing more than to emasculate the opposite sex. If they took the time to educate themselves, they could learn that feminism and misandry are two very different words. As Oxford dictionary describes it, Misandry is a hatred of men while Feminism is the equality of the sexes. With phrases like "Women's turn to dominate!" and "All men are pigs!" I can understand why some people think that misandry equates to feminism. To encourage dialogue between men and women in addressing these issues, there must be an end in viewing feminists as misandrists. Instead of empowering all genders, it puts them down. The misconception about feminism comes from a lack of understanding what feminists' goals are. The main goal being gender equality. To achieve economic and social equality, we must acknowledge the three reasons why it is still relevant today; gender roles, the wage gap, and rape culture. Ever since the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848, the first convention for women's rights in the Unites States, feminism has become an essential movement that our world needs to progress. This convention was a movement that was organized by two abolitionists who met at the 1840 World Anti– Slavery Convention in London, Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady ... Though they are quite different, they are also incredibly similar. Both Vera and Josephine were inspired after they both suffered betrayal of the opposite sex. Renczi's first husband at the time was caught having an affair with another woman. She then later, supposedly killed her husband by putting arsenic in his wine and told her family of his unfaithfulness and abandonment of her and their only son. Szanys promised fiancГ© unexpectedly left her because of the threats from his parents, and she was left all alone at Budapest opera, where she performed as a ballet dancer. • 7. Third Wave Feminism In North America Madison Jones Mr. Bergmann Honors English P–6 October 10, 2016 Third Wave Feminism Have you ever seen a slut walk? I mean women walk around naked saying that they are not asking for attention. Feminism originated in New York, 1848. "The first wave of feminism in the United States began with the Seneca Falls Convention, the first women's rights convention, held at the Wesleyan Chapel in Seneca Falls, New York, on July 19 and 20, 1848." (Encyclopedia of Women and Religion in North America:) Third Wave Feminism started in the mid–90's. ("Four Waves of Feminism.") More women hate third wave feminism than men. Third Wave Feminism claims that North America is a rape culture, that women are always right, and that all men are the same. We have no need for Third Wave Feminism. Although people may claim that we need Third Wave Feminism in the United States there are many reasons to prove that we indeed do not need this cancer in our country. "Feminism is Cancer" – Milo Yiannopoulos. Rape Culture is a term that was coined by feminists in the United States in the 1970's. It was designed to show the ways in which society blamed victims of sexual assault and normalized male sexual violence. ("What is Rape Culture?") It actually depends on your own thoughts or how you may look at it. When it comes to Abortion, Democrats, it a woman's right to choose and therefore be legal as to Republicans, it should not be legal and the government should restrict it as such. When it comes to gun control laws, Democrats, more gun control laws are needed to address a seemly growing problem with guns, Republicans oppose more gun control laws, citing that it not what the Constitution calls for. • 10. Women During The 19th Century Essay Although corsets at this time led to broken bones and a death in 1665 (Olsen 74), this garment was worn throughout the 18th century. During this period, Turkish harem women wore clothes most similar to ours. They wore cloaks over their chemise and loose trousers while also being veiled (Olsen 59). This era marked conservatism in women's clothes. During the first–wave movement, fashion did not become dynamic until the 1900s. In 1851, dress reformers tried to popularize a pair of baggy pants beneath a knee–length tunic (Olsen 125). Although this effort was unsuccessful, it marks the beginning of dress reform and sixty–five years later, hem lengths would rise by ten inches (Olsen 177). The 1920s marked the era of the flappers, when the use of makeup became commonplace and women wore knee–length dresses and bared more skin (Olsen 207, 214). A few decades after, pants would be allowed, introducing scandalous shorts along with it. Although heavily criticized, the stigma of shorts lessened, showing us more familiar styles. Dress reform went full force in this era. Fashion during the second–wave feminism was marked the increase of more comfortable clothing. Women were primarily working in factories for the war effort, so their dress was consisted mainly of pants and high collared shirts []. Fashion in this era would eventually go towards flashy padded shoulders and colorful pants []. The 90's in the United States were insane in terms of fashion. When analyzing third–wave feminist ... • 11. Feminist Definition Essay "Feminist" I'm in 3rd grade at recess when an older boy comes up to me, "You're too tall and no boy will ever like you." I'm in 5th grade in class when *SNAP* the boy behind be reaches up and flicks the strap of my training bra. I'm in 8th grade and discovering a new love of black eyeliner, a friend's older brother stands next to me, "You shouldn't do your makeup like that because boys will think you're fake.". And when I told an adult? "Boys will be boys." –Teacher, Principle, etc. Feminist. Wow, that's a word with some stigma right? It's a powerful word with a lot of both negative and positive views. But what doesfeminism really mean? How about the social, political, and economical equality of the sexes? I found out about feminism in Jr High. It is thanks one of my best friends, who helped me make this discovery, Jayden, I am eternally grateful, and shall be for the rest of my life. If it wasn't for feminism I wouldn't be able to go to school, or own property, or to even be my own person. I wouldn't have realized my self–worth. I love feminism for the fact that it isn't just for girls, but for all genders. Feminism is the reason why girls can go to school, own property, be a human being. • 12. Misogyny And Misandry Misogyny is considered a strong hatred or dislike of women and misandry, is considered as strong hatred or dislike of men. Both Misogyny and misandry can be seen through sexual discrimination, hostility, denigration, violence, and sexual objectification. However, misogyny can also be seen through male supremacist ideas. The mistreatment of women in the United States is part of a larger problem of cultural misogyny (Gailey & Prohaska, 2006). Men and women are consistently sexually objectified because of the acceptance of objectification in the Western culture. Both men and women need to be empowered so that they can be confident in who they are as person to avoid the detrimental effects of objectification. Sexual objectification is a rising... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This idea needs to be taught and accepted in both the school settings and the community. Sexual empowerment is when a person is confident with who they are as a person both physically and mentally in terms of sexuality (Erchull & Liss, 2014). Instead of men and women being objectified through individuals and the media people need to stand for who they are as an individual. Being objectified because of one's sex needs to be seen as a negative symptom of being male or female (Stock, 2015). People should also feel confident about their sexual desires and not try to fit in based on the societal "norm" for what is acceptable. In advertising, there is an attempt to see empowerment trying to be displayed, but in reality there is women are often displayed as actively seeking and enjoying sex as a way to sell products, not because they are fulfilling sexual empowerment. These advertisements are not trying to help men and women, but rather set a standard of sexuality. However, these images are used for business because sex sells. Many feminists are able to recognize the use of language and imagery that actually contradicts empowerment (Stock, 2015). Even though the definition of sexual empowerment varies men and women should continue to push for more positive views of women and men in the media so that there can be an end to the acceptance of sexual ... • 13. Modern Day Feminism : The Fight For Equal Rights Modern–day Feminism The definition of feminism states "the belief that men and woman should have equal rights and opportunities" ("feminism"). Modern feminism is no longer about equality and is in fact counterproductive to the cause. The fight for equal rights has been transformed into a fight for privilege, waged against causes insignificant in the big picture of gender equality; causes like manspreading, cat calls, air conditioning, and representation in video games. We are waging a war in a new and changed society, using an old definition of what the movement is meant to be. Modern–day feminism is now obsolete in the Western World because the fight for equal rights between genders has been won. First–wave feminism is a brand of feminism that refers to the early 19th and 20th centuries, characterized by the fight that was primarily waged in favor of woman's suffrage and legal issues. Second–wave was increasingly radical, and is the basis upon which modern–day feminist ideology is based (Eichler). This movement spanned from the 1960s to the 80s, with dominant issues being sexuality and reproductive rights. By the year 1989 in Canada, the United Nations has enacted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, equal pay and fair employment legislation has been passed across every province in the country and the Supreme Court has decided that sexual harassment is a form of sexual discrimination ("Women's Rights"). Legally, woman have all the rights that men have. Using this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a white woman, shouting misandry and yelling about the patriarchy. If so, its pretty likely that your idea of w feminism is warped. The woman I just described is most likely a white feminist, other wise known as a mainstream feminist. White feminism is feminism that uses the experience and oppression of a middle class, cisgendered white woman as the experience for ALL women. It completely disregards oppression that people face due to race, religion, class, ability, appearance and is often misandrist and transphobic. The truth is, this is not real feminism. • 16. Sexism : The Definition Of Sexism In Society Sexism Sexism is defined as "prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination on the basis of sex." Sexism is also another term for sex discrimination and /or gender discrimination. Sexism is a social issue because of the unequal rights and privileges between men and women, but also because of the way it promotes women and men to act on a basis of ancestral roles. Sexisms grip on society is a long and painful history, that hasn't fully evolved and may never. Though sexism does effect men, it mostly effects women. Women haven't always had the same privileges and rights as men, they weren't allowed to vote, could not join the military, had little job opportunities, and rarely had a college education. Whereas, men typically were able to join the military, were allowed to vote, own property, have jobs, and usually were able to obtain a college education. It was commonly believed that women should remain in their homes, to raise the children and take care of their home and husband. While men should be at work to pay the bills, and put food on the table. Different countries have taken different steps to advance women's rights, and have made many great changes. "In 1994, ten countries had women as the heads of their governments, however, in more than 100 countries there were no woman serving on their legislative bodies" (Busse, Greene, Haynes). Despite women's efforts to receive equal pay with men, "70% of the worlds poor are women" (Busse, Green, Haynes). With the passing of the 19th ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, upon meeting my best friends, I was introduced to a perspective that would come to formulate my own. Initially, the word feminist weighed heavy on my tongue, foreign and full of skepticism because at sixteen I had a fallacious view of the girls who wore the title like a homecoming crown. My APUSH class proved me wrong. The girls at my table taught me that feminism was far more than unshaven armpits and misandry as society so often reduced it to; instead I learned it to be about empowerment, the uplift of women to rightful equality. Before this discovery, however, I lived in blissful ignorance because I shared the same sentiment as most teens my age; you're a kid, you can't make a difference. I did not stand for anything of importance besides the occasional bandwagon belief because what did my opinions matter? Did I even have my own? Or were my words simply regurgitations of the ideologies my parents fed me? At sixteen years old, I was unsure. Give it a year, some heated conflict with my parents as well as a relearning of values and I would be. At seventeen years old, I fully understood what I chose to back those beginning days in APUSH but, more importantly, the significance of having something to stand for. I realized that a person's beliefs characterize who they are and before I became a feminist; I didn't have much of an identity –– I knew who I wanted to be but not who I was. So, in a way, discovering feminism and the girls at my table who first educated me helped me unearth who I am today. • 18. Feminism Definition Essay What is feminism? The definition is often argued over by feminists and anti–feminists. Feminists believe that the expectations for women are far too high to be attainable for most–they are expected to be the perfect weight, the perfect height, the perfect everything in the eyes of society in order to be seen as worth anything. Feminists believe that women are seen by society as less powerful, less smart, simply less than men. Feminists also believe that feminism promotes gender equality, not misandry. They aim to fix this. Anti –feminists, on the other hand believe that feminism is women being obnoxious and putting themselves above men. They think feminism in 2015 in unnecessary. Women already have the right to vote, what more could they possibly want? This oppression is just one reason why feminism exists and–in my opinion–is extremely important in today's world. We so often hear people talk about their high expectations for women, we usually don't even give it a second thought anymore. Society expects women to be thin–but not too thin, be fit–but not too fit, be society's definition of "beautiful". Whatever that is. Feminists have fought the ingrained tradition of women subjected to life as a housewife with no rights since women are looked down upon as the lesser sex. Women have spent hundred of years trying to break down gender barriers and constructs. Less discussed in the social issues of today are the grievances men face. The issues of misogyny and misandry are discussed by the authors of "Marked Women," "A Woman's Beauty," "Man Bashing," and "The Men We Carry in Our Lives." Although men lead lives that are not absent from gender discrimination, women have historically and still currently oppressed by men in society and still fighting for equal rights. Women are judged upon every choice and every action they take. Being marked means that a judgement can be formed about one's character. An unmarked form of a word means "what you think of when you're not thinking anything special," a luxury that women do not have. In the article "Marked Women," Deborah Tannen elaborates on how women are inherently marked in everything they do. Clothing that are too tight will mark a woman as promiscuous while loose clothing would be marked as lazy. Makeup is also definitive mark on the character of a woman. While Sanders and Farrell make some quality points about men's struggle in society, overall, Tannen and Sontag present a stronger argument about the challenges women face in today's society. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sander's essay focuses on his childhood when men were working in manual labor jobs for the most part and women largely staying at home. This is not the case in today's society where women are also expected to get jobs most of the time. In this way, the burden on men to bring in the money has lessoned but women still face the pressure of being beautiful. Tannen exposes this more current set of problems for women when she discusses the expectation that women look "presentable" at work. She writes, "The range of women's hairstyles is staggering, but a woman whose hair has no particular style is perceived as not caring about how she looks, which can disqualify her for many positions, and will subtly diminish her as a person in the eyes of some." Whereas men do not have to think about their hairstyles and general appearance for work ––men's hair has to be unusual to be marked and no makeup is unmarked for men–– women must consider how much makeup and what hair–do they will do. Every style for women is marked and not taking the time to decide on a style marks a woman as not put together. Even the arguments that Farrell brings up for what problems men face in today's society ––which are often invalid–– seem inconsequential compared to the points Tannen and Sontag make about the daily struggles women face. Farrell makes points such as the one that self–help writers voice only women's side of the argument about toilet seats being put down after men use the toilet. "No one suggests thanking the man for putting it up so he gets nothing on it. While these claims may be true for a minimal number of feminists, the truth is that in order to get an accurate representation on what feminists actually believe one would have to go to the source. The two main problems with that, are that first of all, it is "not rigidly structured or led by a single figure or group", and most importantly there is not just one kind of feminism, there are hundreds in each aspect of our life (Tavaana, 2014). The most under represented group within feminism is the kind that is in the government. Not all have the same theories, and therefore, do not have the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Libertarian feminists claim that the "root of female oppression lies in women's ability to bear children" (Gibbs, 2006, p.g 71–93). Liberal feminists on the other hand focus on personal and political autonomy, and see the root of female oppression to be the existence of gender roles. Among all these different kind of feminism, a single political agenda binds them together, a common purpose; gender equality. Like most things, there are misconceptions about certain subjects. For example the media tends to focus on feminist extremist, and (knowingly or unknowingly) perpetuates the stereotype that feminists hate men, and that their agenda includes the eventual societal elevation above men. Nothing could be further from the truth since the actual definition of feminism is, "The advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men." (Oxford Dictionary, 2014). Here we see that it is not a competition to the top of the pyramid, rather it is an effort to join the sexes in equality. The problem that arises from the definition is the lack of explanation of the methods, and ideologies, and that is breeding ground for speculation and therefore misconceptions. The solution to this problem is simple; we must acknowledge that there are different methods employed by different women to reach equality. Therefore, it is crucial for the American woman to reject the philosophy of radical modern feminists, to fully grasp what feminism really is. As a result, women focus what they think they don't have in society and forget about the problems most men face every day. In spite of the efforts produced by feminists from the nineteenth century, misandry has created a border between these feminist's beliefs and values to the radical feminists of the twenty–first century. An American Activist by the name of Charlotte Bunch once said, "Feminism is an entire world view or gestalt, not just a laundry list of women's issues." Feminism can be known as the broad range of ideas, approaches, and ideologies directed towards advocating for gender equality for all. Feminism is a movement that seeks to achieve equality and social rights for everyone in all key areas which includes; education, personal, economic, employment, cultural sphere of human endeavors. While it is said by others that feminism is only about the women and making them the dominant gender of all, it is the changemaking of the world for gender equality and the chance for life changing moments for women. First, feminism emphasizes the establishment for gender equality within humanity. For example, there is an inequality with income pay between men and women leaving a gender wage gap of 21% (Hill). The average woman earns 79 cents for every dollar earned by a man (Hill). Not only that, women of different races such as being Latina and African American have an even bigger wage gap with a 53% and 63% wage gap between men (Hill). Why is it that because of one's gender whether male or female, there are sudden wage gaps between the two? These types of compliments often use phrases like, "even though you are woman" or "despite being a woman" these compliments are offensive because they suggest that being a woman is a setback and that women are less capable than men at accomplishing something. On Sunday, June 7, 2015 Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi caused an uproar on twitter when he "complimented" the Prime Minister of Bangladesh on her stance on terrorism by saying, "I am happy that, she, despite being a woman, has declared zero tolerance for terrorism." Women all over the world who were rightfully outraged by Modi's comment that it's unusual for a woman to make a firm statement against terrorism. Supposed compliments, like Modi's "despite being a woman" comment, are more than just rude. They perpetuate damaging stereotypes about what it means to be a woman, and indirectly tell women that, whatever their accomplishments are, they will continue to be seen as female first, and as professionals second. Although feminism has it's bad parts, the feminist movement was a very liberating for women who had to stay home and where required to be married to own land. wives bore the ... • 33. Feminism Double Standards I hate the word 'feminist'. It just spits out noxious fumes, choking my lungs one word at a time. Sitting in assembly, not long ago, I recall her majesty, the prefect spill her guts about her "life changing feminism journey" and how "all men are patriarch pigs". My brain explodes. It's infuriating; the urge to throw a million daggers, killing those idiotic theories is overwhelming. What right does she have to choose who should be preferred for a job between two equally skilled individuals? Instances like these make me realise that the whole feminism movement had gone a bridge to far. No longer is it about gaining equality between the sexes, but rather a fight to prove women should rule the world, stamping out every man who dares crossing paths. ... Now let's get things straight, I don't think whatsoever that men oppose equality – not at all. But rather, because of the portrayal of feminism by these radical Nazi–like feminists of today, the word often goes hand–in–hand with toxic anti–men sentiments, "I believe women have a capacity for understanding and compassion which man structurally do not have, and cannot have ever" – Barbara Jordon. For this reason alone the brand and image advocated has become an easily attainable easy punch bag, the face of the enemy to easily target anger ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Misandry and Emasculation in Disney's Beauty and the Beast Disney's Beauty and the Beast can be seen as a very honest way of depicting how society feels about the gender roles of men and women. Firstly, of the main characters, two out of the three are in fact males. The interesting thing about this balance is that despite there being a higher number of males in the film, they are both shown to be at least partially villainous. Throughout the entirety of the film, the only two characters, main or otherwise, who truly embody and possess typically masculine characteristics (chivalry, a wish to fight to protect women, strength etc) are both depicted as being wrong, evil, and negative. The first of these two men is Gaston. Gaston is by all accounts, the villain of the piece. His great crime? He... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But Beast is not only an interesting topic when discussing the hugely misandric elements of the film because of this, it is also worthy of discussion because of the tipping point. The turning point, the face heel turn, whichever name you choose. He fully makes the transformation from villain to victim when he meets and is guided by Belle. A woman. If we remove the fantasy and the characters, and look at it purely in terms of actions, then we are met with this path of characterisation. Horrible, evil masculine male who cannot control himself (Villain) – Possibly a redeemable person, he has a few feminine traits – [MEETS A WOMAN]– Fully a victim, in need of love and affection to limit his masculine traits and become a feminised person, thus entering the stage of being worth anything in society. Yes, Beast becomes a good character, one who we are expected to sympathise with, only when he has a feminine touch. When a woman enters the equation and puts her foot down, she brings emasculation and shame for his maleness, and thus the process of making him "acceptable" begins. This same value is shown through sitcoms, television shows, films and every other form of media. It's one of the most basic storylines. Man has masculine traits (sleeping with multiple partners, a biological urge, or demonstrating and taking pride in physical prowess, also a biological and social urge) and this means that he is a bad person. • 35. Review Of Mary Wollstonecraft's A Vindication Of The... This anger at the women's movement is not new. It has plagued feminism throughout history. R.M Janes in her work, "On the Reception of Mary Wollstonecraft's A Vindication of the Rights of Woman" says, "Perhaps it all began over two hundred years ago when Horace Walpole called Mary WollstoneВ¬craft a 'hyena in petticoats'" (Janes 299). It is not surprising anymore that not only men, but women too have become misogynistic. What is patriarchy's biggest win is perhaps the internalization of the various norms that the society makes women live by. Bartky has explained this idea of invisible chains that women have adorned through Jeremy Bentham's idea of the 'Panopticon', where quoting Foucault's Discipline and Punishment, she says that with the "'state ... But every time someone watches a film or reads a book or article everyone has something to say about it, a different opinion on it, different literary analysis or critiques. Here we view three critiques on three different movies, Halloween, 300: Rise of an Empire, and Frozen all critiqued through different ways from gender criticism, to visual and aesthetic critique, and even psychoanalytic criticism. In the first video Siskel and Ebert do a movie review on the popular horror movie "Halloween." The type of criticism they use is New Criticism more specific female criticism. Which emphasizes on the politics of social differences (Mays). "There is a difference between good and scary movies and movies that systematically demean half of the human race (Siskel & Ebert)." Both Siskel and Ebert throughly enjoyed the movie and thus gave the movie a good review because the movie develops its women characters as independent, intelligent, spunky, and interesting people. What they question is its authenticity by poking fun at Elsa's powers and Anna's unforced solitude; the movie lacks depth because its not explained why some stuff is the way it is, its dream like/ unrealistic. But it also points out all the misandry in the movie, at how two of the villains are men, those being the prince and the merchant. Lastly the major theme of their scrutiny is the lack of originality of the movie. • 37. Argumentative Essay On Hook Up Culture There is a lot of faux–concern among conservatives about how much more promiscuous millennials are, as opposed to previous generations and how that sexual freedom is hindering overall growth and emotional stability. Indeed, a recent study at James Madison University "hooking up or dating: who benefits?" conducted by Carolyn Bradshaw and her colleagues, sparked an outcry for how millennials no longer care for dating, and inspired numerous articles about the death of chivalry and romance. These concerns, however, are exaggerated. Sex is sex, and as it turns out, there are more benefits to the no–strings–attached culture of hookups than critics suggest. In her most recent article in The Atlantic, "Boys on the Side", Hanna Rosin wrote an insightful piece in which she argues the merits of hook–up culture... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The "I'm a broke college student" statement is one that many can identify with. While millennials are consistently labeled as commitment–phobes, the truth is, this lifestyle is embraced mostly because it's the only one many can financially afford. When one takes into account the amount that goes towards buying an exclusive partner holiday gifts, anniversary celebrations, birthdays, for broke college students, the overall sum is preposterous. Add the opportunity cost of spending time with a partner instead of actually investing that time in one's job, internship, and academic success, and the numbers go up even more. This is why hook up culture is important. According to Andrew 21, a typical hookup involves a couple of cheap drinks and having a good time: "there are no rights or wrongs, as long as no one catches feelings". Meha 22, added: "hooking up gives women the opportunity to focus on their personal goals. Instead of investing my time with a partner who may or may not be in my future in the next 5 years, I get to focus on accomplishing what's important to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Sexism Since the beginning of history, sexism has always been a prominent barrier between sexes. The notion that women are not on the same level as men has always been in existence. We see that even during the book of exodus this belief stems from the creation of Eve, through a rib of Adam. From scripture, Eve 's roll was to be considered as a servant and a temptress, the sole reason why Adam ate the apple. Consequently Eve is blamed as being the reason mankind is not living in a paradise. Sexism has continued throughout ancient history and continues occur in our own environment to this day. • 39. 1970 a study conducted by two psychologists at Stanford university showed four amazing things. They sifted though nearly 1500 research papers, studied behavior tendencies and only found four differences: Males are more aggressive then females, girls have better verbal skills then boys, boys have better visual–spatial ability and boys have better mathematical ability from about thirteen onward. Another interesting piece of information that they discovered that on average these differences were extremely small. (Shaw, 21) Fackerell, Michael. • 40. Feminism : A Social Movement As the world advances further into the twenty first century a new modernized form of feminism becomes more and more prominent. Referred to as third wave feminism, it is a social movement focused on equality of the sexes. At the core this idea is simple but when applied to modern day societies it becomes increasingly complex and even, at times, convoluted. For the most part, this particular wave of feminism is primarily concerned with first world countries and their accompanying issues as patriarchal societies. This aspect alone elicits criticism of the movement and grounds on which some try to use to dismiss its points. The critics of modern feminism call themselves antifeminists and aim to discredit what they believe to be an unjust movement. Both the feminists and the antifeminists raise good arguments for the reasons behind their opinions on the issue, but both have their flaws as well. The most commonly cited argument of the antifeminists is that modern feminism is actually not in support of gender equality, but instead promotes the demonization of the entire male gender as oppressors and abusers of women. To be summed up in the most basic way antifeminism is the belief that modern feminism's arguments are incorrect or exaggerated and purposely encourage misandry. Many women don't want to openly identify as a "feminist" because of the stigma the word comes with of being a radical man hater. Antifeminists see feminism as an attempt to paint women as victims of society; a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Wife Of Bath Character Analysis : The Wife Of Bath Wife of Bath Analysis Essay The Canterbury Tales depict many characters that, although fictionally created by Geoffrey Chaucer, may give the reader the opportunity to analyze and interpret their tales as a way of determining their personalities. The Wife of Bath and her prologue accurately supports this statement, as her intentions become expounded due to her questionable actions. The Wife of Bath exhibits in her prologue that she lacks respect and gratitude towards the men she beguiles into marriage and does so by falsely claiming direction from God. She shows not only deceit towards her many husbands, but also does not possess the ability to care about others before herself. The Wife of Bath pursued husbands in a way that did not benefit both sides of the marriage. She clearly admits that she does not show shame from having sexual relations with many different men, as she simply desires sex and riches from wealthy men. Medieval civilizations did not consider this behavior appropriate, as it conflicted with ideas of courtly love and God's word. She states that, "I am dominated by the planet Venus in my senses, and my heart is dominated by the planet Mars" (Chaucer 626). This statement supports that her body and desires only seek pleasure, while her true soul remains conflicted, unable to truly love. At the end of each marriage she appears as the one who reigns victorious and still willing to remarry: "I boast of one thing for myself; in the end I had the better in every way" (430). The Wife does not have respect for her multiple wedded spouses, and would rather remain happy when they leave her than to flood herself with emotion of sadness. The Wife of Bath exceedingly explains in her prologue of how God supports her behavior and that no formalities of the time discord with her actions. She justifies her situation by telling of how King Solomon, "...Had more than one wife, and I wish to God it were lawful for me to be refreshed half as often" (50). She gave a multitude of quotations and scripture lines that she twisted into supporting her non–religious motives of deceiving men for her pleasure. One of these instances occurs with her correct yet out of context claim that "I know Abraham ... and Jacob as well, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
