Interview With Raymond Joseph Lyons
As I sit here about to interview my Papa, Raymond Joseph Lyons. He sits across from me on the
dinner table, eating his dinner and drinking pepsi soda. He just got home from a long day of work.
He appears to be happy. He was still in his work clothes. In the kitchen the smell of spaghetti was
being made. You can tell the the years working in the electric company has taken it's tole on him he
does not look like a track runner any more. I started by asking him, what age did he go to college,
then he looked up at me and said 18. He attended the University of Hawai`i at Manoa college. Then
he started to explain why he went to college, he wanted to go to "get an education and get a
scholarship for track. "Unfortunately, the track team got cut, then

Mackenzie King Leadership
Unforgettable actions that will always be remembered in honour of Mackenzie King, which made
him such a great leader. In my opinion William Lyon Mackenzie King showed that he was an
effective leader through his duty of being Canada's 10th Prime Minister for 29 years. King made
huge impacts on many lives and both world wars in being Canada's best Prime Minister. Mackenzie
King did many effective actions throughout his years of being Prime Minister, however three events
stood out the most. King showed that he was an effective leader because he created crown
corporations, had a dream to start the British Commonwealth Air Training Program and created
Unemployment Insurance for people who needed it. Not only did he serve the longest time as
Canada's Prime Minister but he successfully affected many lives.
Firstly, Mackenzie King showed great leadership towards the people because of this dream of
starting the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP). Mackenzie King was determined in
1939 to have a dream which he believed was a sign of "the power of the airplane in determining
ultimate victory". All over the country, Canadians decided to mobilized to take part in this event. In
order to take on this event an army of experts would have to be assembled, a development in
airfields and equipment, including airplanes. Between the years 1940–1945 there was 151 schools
established and thousands civilians that were members of the Royal Canadian Air Force, mainly the
Women's division trained and worked for BCATP facilities. By the end of the Second World War,
the BCATP had produced 131,553 aircrew, including pilots, wireless operators, air gunners, and
navigators for the Air Forces of Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. This all Started
when Canada's government realized it was an opportunity for them to make a significant
commitment to the Allied war efforts. The final agreement was made on December 17, 1939 and all
countries that were involved in this dream signed the papers, which listed the percentages of trainees
they need to send, the cost they would need to pay, schedule of training times. This all came to a
close in March on the 31st 1945. King was so confident in this dream he had envisioned that

Wallis Simpson Essay
American socialite Wallis Simpson, the woman for whom Edward VIII gave up the throne in 1936,
is variously portrayed as a greedy snob, a sexual predator or part of the romance of the century. A
complex figure emerges: a strong–willed woman, hungry for independence, but caught up in a
situation she could not control. Mrs. Wallis Simpson has become an emotional figure in history.
Along with this, many descriptions of her personality and motives for being with Edward have
caused some extremely negative descriptions; the nicer ones range from witch to seductress. So who
really was Mrs. Wallis Simpson? Bessie Wallis Warfield, named after her aunt and her father, as she
was born in Baltimore, Maryland, was something of a misfit from the start. ... Show more content on

This time Wallis left him for good and sued for a divorce, which was granted in December 1927.
After three years of separation divorced, Wallis began an affair with a married man, Ernest Simpson,
a British–American businessman. They wed in July 1928. They moved to London, where Wallis
established herself as a hostess. Through contacts at the US Embassy she became friendly with
Thelma Furness, who was married to an elderly shipping magnate and involved with Prince Edward
– the future Edward VIII. "I really feel so tired of fighting the world all alone and with no
money," she wrote to her mother. Settled into English society, she met Edward, Prince of
Wales, at a house party given by his mistress, Lady Thelma Furness, at Melton Mowbray in
Leicestershire. He was charming, the most eligible bachelor in the world; she was married, at 35 no
longer in the first flush of youth and no beauty. But she was seductive. In January 1934, Thelma
Furness left England to visit her sister, Gloria Vanderbilt. When she returned three months later,
Wallis had taken her place as Edward's closest friend. By 1934, the prince was a frequent visitor to
the Simpsons' home, and it has been said their relationship was consummated that year. Wallis told
her aunt: "It requires great tact to manage both men. I shall try to keep them both."

Food During The Elizabeth Era
During Queen Elizabeth's reign, she was served many types of food; However, one of her most
favorite dishes was meat. She described meat as a tender dinner dish. Queen Elizabeth also was
more of a quick bite type queen. She watch performers perform and takes small bites of food as she
watched. Queen Elizabeth liked meat for different occasions, such as big events that were going on
in the kingdom. The seasoning on the meat, I'm thinking, was one of the toppings that caught her

The Holocaust : The Survivors Of Jews And The Holocaust
January 30th, 1933 was the beginning of an event that shook the world. It was a time period where
death was peace to the torture distributed to millions of people. This event was the Holocaust, where
Jewish people were targeted specifically by German leaders who wanted to show the world an
example of how to exterminate so, called 'pests'. Millions of Jews tortured and killed by the Nazi
regime. Nazi nationalism was the belief issued over eastern Europe in a time period where being
marginalized and a minority signaled death. Nazi leaders carried out orders to round up these people
and place them in death camps to exterminate them once for all. From the commander in chief to a
measly guard, they were carrying out orders to kill millions of people. May 8th, 1945 the end to pain
for the Jewish people, but was it? The allied powers put an end to the Nazi ruling and made
Germany submit to a new order with the Truth commissions and the Nuremberg Trials. Jewish
survivors were out on stands to give testimony to what they experienced through these events.
Although plenty of Nazi served prison time many fled. They were undercover hiding in the depths
of disguises making new lives in countries that were once the allied party. Now in the 21st century,

The Positive Impact Of The Roaring Twenties
Post–war years have significant impacts on a society's economy, bringing an abundance of
celebration, cherished moments and highlighting the end of the plagued events of war and loss. With
the end of such an afflicted time period, the arrival of solidarity and unification in society usually
follows. The Roaring Twenties accomplished many positive changes in Canadian society, building
the path it needs to follow to become a great nation and progress into the future. The time period
was regarded as a time of excitement and prosperity concerning the fads, fashions, and
entertainment, as well as the freedom many people gained with the end of the war. Furthermore, the
Roaring Twenties can also be seen as a time of positive change due to a variety of factors such as
Canada's developing autonomy and political relationship with Britain, pushing Canada to become an
independent nation. Another factor would be the Canadian industries and economy that flourished
during the 1920s which allowed many Canadian businesses to prosper and enabled Canadians to
acquire and enjoy an improved quality of life. Finally, the change in societal status and role of
women established the starting point of gender equality between men and women, as well as the
recognition of the various contributions that women were capable of bringing to society.
Before the 1920s, Canada made decisions on its domestic matters independently. It was only during
the 1920s that Canada began to take an independent approach in

The Importance Of Pride In Fences By Agust Wilson
In history, a lot of great man have fallen do to pride and selfishness, In the bible it says Lucifer
clearly turned out to be so awed with his own particular excellence, knowledge, power, and position
that he started to want for himself the respect and transcendence that had a place with God alone.
The transgression that ruined Lucifer was self–created pride. I used that lesson from the bible to say
that pride can lead to major life consequences. In fences by Agust Wilson we see a perfect example
of that when it comes to the main character, Troy is shown as a man who has hurt the people who
are closest to him without even realizing it. He has acted in an unsensitive and heartless way
towards his significant other, Rose, his brother, Gabriel and his children, Cory and Lyons. Toward
the start of the story, Troy feels he has made them proud. He feels this all through the story. He
doesn't understand the amount he has harmed them. In the first scene of the play his oldest son
Lyons come to ask him for 10 dollars and answers no saying "You ain't gonna find me going and
asking nobody for nothing. I done spent too many years without"(Troy). Troy's biggest strength and
weakness is that he always looks out for his best interest and doesn't see anyone else's interest as
important as his own.
Laguerre 2 Lyon is a musician by custom and thought rather then getting a regular job he'd hone his
music. Lyons trusted that he would get something out of it. Troy

Rhetorical Devices Used in Queen Elizabeth's Speech
Through her speech, Queen Elizabeth inspired her people to fight for the country of England against
the Spaniards. Queen Elizabeth persuaded the English troops to defend their country with rhetoric
devices such as diction, imagery, and sentence structure to raise their morale and gain loyalty as a
woman in power.
Queen Elizabeth skillfully used diction throughout her speech to motivate the troops. In the speech,
Queen Elizabeth used the word "we" four times to underscore her feeling of unity between her and
her country. She conveyed her care about the welfare of everyone in the country. This inspired the
soldiers to remain patriotic and want to fight for their nation. In addition, the queen refered to the
soldiers as "noble" and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The whole phrase justified that she is, in fact, a strong leader, both politically and militaristically
regardless of her being a woman. This phrase would help the queen gain respect from the soldiers
who may not have respected her high position before because of her gender. In the same sentence,
Queen Elizabeth uses a hyperbole to describe how much she cared for her country of England. She
said, "I myself will take up arms". She, of course, had no intent to physically engage in the war
along with the troops, but she was trying to depict the image of herself to the soldiers saying that she
was willing to do anything for the sake of England. This convinced the troops that they should do
the same. The queen's excellent use of imagery instilled respect for herself from the troops and
inspired them to go to war.
Queen Elizabeth expertly used sentence structure to instill confidence in the troops to fight the
Spaniards and gain trust. In the speech, the queen used parallel structure to compare herself to a
king, or man in power. She said that she has the body of a weak and feeble woman, but a strong
heart of a king. The usage of parallel structure brought to light that even though she may not be
physically able, she still cared about the well being of her people just as a king would. She conveyed
the message that the people's respect towards her should be no different than that directed towards a
king. In addition, Queen Elizabeth

The Historical Causes Of The Winnipeg General Strike In...
Winnipeg General Strike: On, May 1919 a strike occurred in the city of Winnipeg. Workers went on
strike to improve working and living conditions. The employers wanted $0.85/hour and 8 hours of
work/day. May 1st, building and metal traders council voted to go on strike. May 15th, 30 000
workers went on strike as well. Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal went on a strike to support the
strike occurring in Winnipeg. The government declared federal workers to return to work. On June
21st, Bloody Saturday occurred, when the police charged many people. 1 man was killed, 30 injured
and hundreds were killed. The negotiations were not made between strikers and the government
leaders. The strike ended and the strikers thought the strike was a failure. The strike lasted 6 weeks.
The workers were forced to sign the Yellow Dog Contracts which meant they were not allowed to
join a union. (Reilly,2015,1,2,6 para) The historical significance of this event is that workers
gathered together to stand up for their rights and what is right. This was one of the largest strikes
that occurred in Canada. People realized the significance of workers and how they contribute to the
community. The American Boom: Arthur Meighen becomes Prime Minister on July 10th, 1920 In

The story emphasizes how the princess is confined due to her status as a woman, and is additionally
degraded due to her failures at performing femininity. She lacks the "softness" and "grace" expected
of her, therefore and cannot perform in traditionally feminine roles, exemplified by her inability and
unwillingness to attract a suitor at the masquerade. She instead to embraces her unfeminine and
monstrous tendencies, preying on the men in the forest and thus gaining power by retaking what
they had "stolen" from nature (which, as a woman, is tied to her own being.) In line with Nancy
Chodorow's theory of "Family Structure and Feminine Personality", the princess's ineptitude of
femininity stems from her lack of female socialization. Her birth mother dies in childbirth, and is
further shunned by her stepmother; after this, she receives no maternal guidance or connection, and
is "passed from hand to hand" between various faux–maternal figures. Parental relationships are
fraught with tense strife. The monster can only achieve her goals when reconnected with a maternal
figure, and allowed to consume (though a tad grotesquely) the love that could be "only fully given
by a mother," which is to say a mother's sacrifice for the sake of her child. In so doing, both the
queen and princess break from traditional gender

all I Know Is What I Read In The Papers
"All I Know Is What I Read In The Papers" – Will Rogers
There have been many criteria over the past few centuries that measured one's political clout and
influence: divine right, property, money, and acquaintances. In the twentieth century, particularly the
past two decades, the political power to influence others resides in information: the more
information you have and the more you know how to use it, the more potential influence you have.
People rely on the media for their information, as it is the most easily accessible, efficient, and
passive way of acquiring knowledge. Unfortunately, the media is not completely reliable as it can

This statement is an attempt to manipulate not only the voter who will take the time to read the
reasons in smaller print, but also the voter who only glances through the paper as their attention is
caught, even if it is only for a second, to the bold type and the powerful finality of the statement.
These are examples of direct use of advertisement to sway voters' decisions. There is a more indirect
method as well where politicians use the news media to try to convey their message and hope the
news will air or print it.
During the National Referendum campaign the "No" side relied on this factor more than
the "Yes" side did. In a Globe and Mail article before the vote, the reporter regurgitated
what Judy Rebick had said about the "Yes" side being "top– heavy with
politicians, government types, and opinion leaders"(6), and how the public respects the
"No" side as it is "something that comes from the grassroots"(7). Similar to
the National Referendum, the Quebec Referendum also followed the same guidelines set out by the
Referendum Act concerning media advertising allotment. The only difference was that the
advertisement was localized to

Summary Of ' People Make Choices '

"People make Choices" Introduction:
From 1941 to 1945, The Holocaust took place in many countries, and millions of people died. Adolf
Hitler came to power in 1933 in Germany, and had an "Aryan Race" which was the Nazi's idea of a
master race. They thought that people with blonde hair and blue eyes were perfect. Adolf Hitler
developed a plan called the "Final Solution," which was to kill mostly Jewish people, but also
anyone who did not fit his standards. Hitler rounded up all of the people he disliked, and he placed
them in concentration camps and death camps. In these awful places, these prisoners got tortured not
only physically, but also mentally. In France, many Jews were being deported to Germany, however;
there was so many, that they had to stay in concentration camps in France. The survival rate in
France was higher than any country in Europe during the Holocaust. Two very similar people who
made very different choices were in France during the Holocaust. A priest named Andre Trocme
made a good choice to save many Jews, and a SS officer named Klaus Barbie made a bad choice to
kill thousands of Jews ("The Holocaust").
1st body paragraph: Andre Trocme was born on April 7, 1901 in northern France. When he was a
child, he spoke his mind, and did whatever he felt like he needed to do, which led him to be an
objector during World War 1. He attended seminary school in Paris as he was growing up, and then

Queen Elizabeth II Research Paper
The Devotion of Her Majesty There are two types of people in this world: those that lead, and those
that follow. A leader should be someone that people are willing to stand behind; a leader should be
strong and know their impact on the world. As Queen Elizabeth II said herself, "I know of no single
formula for success. But over the years I have observed that some attributes of leadership are
universal and are often about finding ways of encouraging people to combine their efforts, their
talents, their insights, their enthusiasm and their inspiration to work together (BrainyQuote)". A

The job of the queen is to guide her people, while remaining anonymous to her own opinions. This
ideal is especially prominent when it comes to politics. A queen has never revealed much about her
political opinion before Queen Elizabeth II, and some believe that it is a good thing to remain
private about these beliefs. Last year, however, the Queen openly stated some negative opinions
about Chinese officials; people were both outraged and offended by her remarks. As Maria Puente
with USA Today states: "So when she was overheard at a garden party Tuesday criticizing Chinese
officials for being "very rude" during a state visit to Britain last year, her remark was huge news in
the United Kingdom because it was unprecedented, uncharacteristic and undiplomatic (Puente)".
Political opinions have been existent with the Queen on multiple other occasions, including remarks
on Scotland and Brexit. These remarks have many people believing she is not a fit ruler. Although
she did make these claims, they do not make her a bad leader. If anything, Queen Elizabeth II has
benefitted from sharing her political opinions, as it has made her even more relatable than before.
She shows that she is human, too, and has more to her than just her title. Her popularity has
increased since her political views have spread, making her more united with her followers than ever
before. People who disagree

The movie The King's Speech is about Prince Albert, Duke of York, who later becomes King George

brought up, it momentarily changes Bertie's perception of him, it lowers with this new knowledge.
Furthermore, it lowers Bertie's own perception in his own abilities that Lionel has helped him
achieve. Additionally, there is the constant of Bertie's own self–perception. In the beginning of the
movie Bertie is convinced that nothing can ever been done to improve his stammer. At one point he
even angrily leaves one of his sessions with Lionel because he is so entirely sure it is a waste of
time. Yet, scenes such as the one where he finally listens to the recording he made with Lionel, starts
to change his self–perception. The more treatments Bertie receives the more his self–perception
changes. There are moment's it waivers however, such as right before his coronation and then again
right before the final radio address. Bertie's perception of himself changes – he begins to believe in
his abilities. Another important interpersonal concept covered vastly in this film was nonverbal
messages. With the emphasis on speeches and radio addresses, along with Bertie's speech
impediment, it was a significant part of the film. The old saying of it's not what you say, but how

The Last Day Of Elizabeth
The next day Elizabeth received an invitation to Duke of Stratford's Ball. No doubt Blair had
secured it for her – she'd never run in his set before. She appreciated Blair's efforts but wondered
how on earth she'd manage a new gown suitable for such an occasion. The Duke's spring ball was
considered the event of the season. The Regent might even put in an appearance. London's finest
would be out in their most impressive jewels and costly gowns. This was not a playing field
Elizabeth was prepared for. She went to her room to survey her paltry evening gowns and dwindling
jewellery case. What she found further underscored her plight.

where to send it back". "No Madame! You can't! You've nothing to wear to the ball". "Then I'll have
to stay home and risk Blair's wrath. Give me the card Marie". Marie half–heartedly handed it over
her face a mask of disappointment. A mistress with neither youth nor funds was not worthy of her
talents. The note read "Once in while a woman should have exactly what she wants exactly when
she needs it, B". Tears formed in Elizabeth's eyes. The gratitude and appreciation of her friend's
perceptive kindness overwhelmed her. "It's from Blair. She would brook no refusal and daren't try to
return it. Let's withdraw to my bedroom and see how it looks. I do hope it fits!" It was too much.
She was trembling with each parcel she opened. Marie was beside herself. One treasure was more
glorious than the next. Blair had managed to even include some scandalous silk drawers and
stockings with a note saying enclosed saying "Never under estimate the effect of silk on a woman's
body". There wasn't one item forgotten in her ensemble right down to a beautiful pale, pink French
fan with a silver handle. Now Elizabeth had no excuse to offer nor did she want to.

June 17 and Carthage on July 5 started to set the tone for battles to come. By August, more than
7,000 men were in Springfield Missouri under the command of General Lyon.6 Major General
Sterling Price, commander of the Missouri State Guard, needed help to oppose Lyon's forces in
Springfield. He called upon Confederate commander Ben McCulloch. McCulloch agreed and
moved 5,000 men into Missouri. This proved to be the first invasion of Confederate troops into
Union territory. After McCulloch's men joined Price's they set out for Springfield. During the
advance, McCulloch and Price had several skirmishes with Lyon, and eventually settled into camp at

Toni The Superhero
Toni the Superhero is a story book introducing the main character, Toni, to first time readers. The
very first panel shows Toni and then tells us that he's a superhero, then it goes on showing us some
of Toni's favorite activities. Toni is shown playing with his friends, eating healthy food, swimming
in a swimming pool, rescuing an animal and helping his mom around the house. The book then
shows us Toni panel in his Superhero costume with a "T" across the chest and telling us that Toni is
terrific. This is a really cute storybook; my favorite thing about it is that Toni, a young African
American child is portrayed as a superhero. Already the book earns props for diversity of its
characters. It also shows Toni rescuing a stranded cat and helping out, generally being friendly and
playing well with others. It sends a very positive message that terrific kids do good things. An
impressionable young child will see that and want to be as awesome as Toni. ... Show more content

Namely, right in the beginning it tells us that Toni is a superhero, but doesn't really tell us what his
superpower is. You could argue that saving animals, helping out and generally being an agreeable
little guy is his superpower. This isn't a major issue as kids in the intended age range for this book
aren't likely to question it, but I can imagine an older child bringing it up. Another (also minor) issue
is the font and graphics; while I loved the character drawings themselves, I thought the title font had
a bit of a home spun feel to it and could be improved upon slightly to make it more eye catching and

The Famous Five and the Persons Case Essay
What if you did not count as a person anymore? You would be denied of many rights and freedoms
we take for granted today. This was the situation women faced in the past. Before 1929, women
didn't count as "persons". Although they weren't denied of all their rights, women weren't allowed to
become senators. Five women in Alberta decided to take action and formed the Famous Five. The
Famous Five fought for the rights of women by winning the Persons Case and they're the reason
why women are considered persons today. The Famous Five are prominent people in Canadian
history and they have established many of our rights. The Famous Five consists of Emily Murphy,

They decided the question to be asked was "Does the word 'person' in section 24 of the BNAAct
include female persons?" (Section 15, 2004). Unfortunately, in 1928, the Supreme Court of Canada
answers this question with no; women weren't persons. The judges of the Supreme Court stated that
when the BNAAct was written, women weren't allowed vote or run for office and the British House
of Lords had no females (Alberta Online Encyclopedia, 2004). Therefore, women didn't count as
"persons". However, the Famous Five weren't satisfied with the answer they got and decided to
continue working on the case. The Famous Five decided to appeal to the decision made by the
Supreme Court of Canada with the support of Prime Minister Mackenzie King. The Famous Five
appealed to the Judicial Committee and Privy Council of England. In 1929, the British Privy
Council declared women as "persons". They stated that the constitution is a "living tree" and should
change according to the time (Creating Canada, page 154). In conclusion, the victory of the Persons
Case contributed to the importance of women and opened the door to many rights. After women
were declared as persons, women's role in society increased. Although none of the Famous Five was
appointed as a senator, Carine Wilson became the first female senator 1 year later. Also, the Persons
Case allowed women to vote

Henry Viii Influence
Literature has become the most important factor in the construction of the English monarchy. It has
become the way in which people communicate and share their ideas throughout the world. English
literature is the essential piece in ruling a country and determining the future for that country. In
England, English literature has evolved through a number of versions due to the changes made to
the policies and laws, religion, culture, and the monarchy. Henry VIII was born on June 28, 1491 by
Elizabeth of York and Henry VII at Greenwich Palace (BBC News). In his early age, he was very
interested in the arts and enjoyed reading literature. In 1509, Henry VIII succeeded his father Henry
VII (1457–1509), but had originally become heir to the throne after his older brother, Prince Arthur,
died in 1502 (Henry VIII (r.1509–1547)). He reigned during the House of Tudor monarchy when he
was only eighteen years old until he died in 1547, having Edward VI succeed him. Throughout his
years of reign, he married six women including: Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour,
Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard, and Catherine Parr. In 1527, Henry divorced Catherine of
Aragon, since she could no longer conceive children, and became infatuated with Anne Boleyn
(Henry's Divorce). This decision led to the English Protestant Reformation which were "a series of
events...[in] which the Church of England broke away from the authority of the Pope and the Roman
Catholic Church" (English Reformation).

Adolf Hitler 's Influence On His Deeds During World War...
Hitler
Adolf Hitler has the image of having a ruthless evil character from his deeds during world war two.
However evidences show that he was not a terribly evil person, but a normal person with large
ambitions. Canadian prime minister Mackenzie King wrote in his journal after meeting with Adolf
Hitler that, "he is really one who truly loves his fellow–men, and his country, and would make any
sacrifice for their good...a man of deep sincerity and a genuine patriot," which all shows he was
naturally a good person with a genuine ambition of wanting to create a better environment for
himself and the country. In January 1933, Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany and immediately
began to challenge the Treaty of Versailles and adapt an aggressive foreign policy, which led to war.
It is not hard to blame Adolf Hitler for starting the war, however looking at evidences show that he
was naturally a good person that was not taught or at the very least did not bother to realize the
importance of learning to control his ambitions to not reach the level of selfish greediness. Hence
ambition is needed to proceed forward but the control of it must be taught to refrain from these

Public Policies Of The Canadian Government
Throughout Canadian history, a responsible government depended on the act of the nation working
together to apply appropriate public policy. William Lyon Mackenzie King, the prime minister of
Canada in the 1920s (and again in the 1930s) once said, "Where there is little or no public opinion,
there is likely to be bad government, which sooner or later becomes autocratic government." This is
true even almost 100 years later. A democratic society operates in relation to the voices of the
nation. The Canadian government consists of many sectors to enforce this particular style of policy
making, including the House of Commons, the Senate, the Cabinet, and of course, the prime
minister. Many citizens may argue that these important sectors of government are aspects reflecting
true democracy. On the other hand, some citizens might argue that the prime minister has significant
control over Parliament alone, sometimes without the need for other voices. Government
responsibility lies in the heart of the prime minister and can have significant control over different
policy areas if he or she feels the need to do so. This often flies in the face of a democratic society.
This paper will argue that the Prime Minister of Canada has too much power over Canadian public
policy because he or she maintains party discipline, controls Cabinet ministers, and has power over
what bills are passed in Parliament. These factors determine that the Prime Minister indeed
continues to control government

Flowers And Freckle Cream Things Not Seen And Eleanor...
Have you ever regretted something you have done? Or did something wrong? One thing you may
not have noticed, is that every time you make a mistake, your brain grows. "When we make a
mistake, synapses fire. A synapse is an electrical signal that moves between parts of the brain when
learning occurs." Says the website youcubed. One way that many people make mistakes, is by
finding their self identity. Making mistakes can lead to learning about yourself. What you like, what
you don't like, and that is how you will find self identity. Many examples of this are in the stories
Flowers and Freckle Cream, Things Not Seen, and Eleanor Roosevelt, Each of these stories prove
that people learn through their experiences.
One example of someone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Elizabeth is very self conscious about her freckles. She believes they make her look ugly. These
thoughts grow in her mind like weeds. She wants to look like everyone else. So she decides to buy a
freckle creams to attempt to get rid of her freckles. But it has the opposite effect on her. The book
Flowers and Freckle Cream by Elizabeth Ellis says, "I smeared the cream all over my body... Later
that day I took my hoe and went with my brother and cousins to the head of the holler to hoe
tobacco, as we did nearly every day. Of course, you're not working in the shade. And there was
something important I hadn't realized about freckle cream: if you wear it in the sun, it seems to have
the opposite effect." What Elizabeth should have learned is that everyone has their own type of
beauty, and you don't have to use a cream to make you more beautiful. Because you already are. A
final story that represents self identity and learning through experiences is the book Things Not
Seen. Have you ever wished for the super power to turn invisible? Well, in the story Things Not
Seen, Bobby does not have a choice. One day he wakes up invisible. Bobby was a normal boy, and
all of a sudden he is gone. "I look in the mirror a second time, and then rub at the mirror again. I'm
not there."
The book Things Not Seen. Bobby learns that with help from your family and friends, you can
survive anything. And in life, you need a "team" to help you through life.

He just got home from a long day of work. He appears to be happy. He was still in his work clothes. In the kitchen the smell of spaghetti was being made. You can tell the the years working in the electric company has taken it's tole on him he does not look like a track runner any more. I started by asking him, what age did he go to college, then he looked up at me and said 18. He attended the University of Hawai`i at Manoa college. • 3. Mackenzie King Leadership Unforgettable actions that will always be remembered in honour of Mackenzie King, which made him such a great leader. In my opinion William Lyon Mackenzie King showed that he was an effective leader through his duty of being Canada's 10th Prime Minister for 29 years. King made huge impacts on many lives and both world wars in being Canada's best Prime Minister. Mackenzie King did many effective actions throughout his years of being Prime Minister, however three events stood out the most. King showed that he was an effective leader because he created crown corporations, had a dream to start the British Commonwealth Air Training Program and created Unemployment Insurance for people who needed it. Not only did he serve the longest time as Canada's Prime Minister but he successfully affected many lives. Firstly, Mackenzie King showed great leadership towards the people because of this dream of starting the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP). Mackenzie King was determined in 1939 to have a dream which he believed was a sign of "the power of the airplane in determining ultimate victory". All over the country, Canadians decided to mobilized to take part in this event. In order to take on this event an army of experts would have to be assembled, a development in airfields and equipment, including airplanes. Between the years 1940–1945 there was 151 schools established and thousands civilians that were members of the Royal Canadian Air Force, mainly the Women's division trained and worked for BCATP facilities. By the end of the Second World War, the BCATP had produced 131,553 aircrew, including pilots, wireless operators, air gunners, and navigators for the Air Forces of Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. This all Started when Canada's government realized it was an opportunity for them to make a significant commitment to the Allied war efforts. The final agreement was made on December 17, 1939 and all countries that were involved in this dream signed the papers, which listed the percentages of trainees they need to send, the cost they would need to pay, schedule of training times. This all came to a close in March on the 31st 1945. King was so confident in this dream he had envisioned that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Wallis Simpson Essay American socialite Wallis Simpson, the woman for whom Edward VIII gave up the throne in 1936, is variously portrayed as a greedy snob, a sexual predator or part of the romance of the century. A complex figure emerges: a strong–willed woman, hungry for independence, but caught up in a situation she could not control. Mrs. Wallis Simpson has become an emotional figure in history. Along with this, many descriptions of her personality and motives for being with Edward have caused some extremely negative descriptions; the nicer ones range from witch to seductress. So who really was Mrs. Wallis Simpson? Bessie Wallis Warfield, named after her aunt and her father, as she was born in Baltimore, Maryland, was something of a misfit from the start. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This time Wallis left him for good and sued for a divorce, which was granted in December 1927. After three years of separation divorced, Wallis began an affair with a married man, Ernest Simpson, a British–American businessman. They wed in July 1928. They moved to London, where Wallis established herself as a hostess. Through contacts at the US Embassy she became friendly with Thelma Furness, who was married to an elderly shipping magnate and involved with Prince Edward – the future Edward VIII. "I really feel so tired of fighting the world all alone and with no money," she wrote to her mother. Settled into English society, she met Edward, Prince of Wales, at a house party given by his mistress, Lady Thelma Furness, at Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire. He was charming, the most eligible bachelor in the world; she was married, at 35 no longer in the first flush of youth and no beauty. But she was seductive. In January 1934, Thelma Furness left England to visit her sister, Gloria Vanderbilt. When she returned three months later, Wallis had taken her place as Edward's closest friend. By 1934, the prince was a frequent visitor to the Simpsons' home, and it has been said their relationship was consummated that year. Wallis told her aunt: "It requires great tact to manage both men. I shall try to keep them both."      By January 1936, though, the prince had become King and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Positive Impact Of The Roaring Twenties Post–war years have significant impacts on a society's economy, bringing an abundance of celebration, cherished moments and highlighting the end of the plagued events of war and loss. With the end of such an afflicted time period, the arrival of solidarity and unification in society usually follows. The Roaring Twenties accomplished many positive changes in Canadian society, building the path it needs to follow to become a great nation and progress into the future. The time period was regarded as a time of excitement and prosperity concerning the fads, fashions, and entertainment, as well as the freedom many people gained with the end of the war. Furthermore, the Roaring Twenties can also be seen as a time of positive change due to a variety of factors such as Canada's developing autonomy and political relationship with Britain, pushing Canada to become an independent nation. Another factor would be the Canadian industries and economy that flourished during the 1920s which allowed many Canadian businesses to prosper and enabled Canadians to acquire and enjoy an improved quality of life. Finally, the change in societal status and role of women established the starting point of gender equality between men and women, as well as the recognition of the various contributions that women were capable of bringing to society. • 15. The Importance Of Pride In Fences By Agust Wilson In history, a lot of great man have fallen do to pride and selfishness, In the bible it says Lucifer clearly turned out to be so awed with his own particular excellence, knowledge, power, and position that he started to want for himself the respect and transcendence that had a place with God alone. The transgression that ruined Lucifer was self–created pride. I used that lesson from the bible to say that pride can lead to major life consequences. In fences by Agust Wilson we see a perfect example of that when it comes to the main character, Troy is shown as a man who has hurt the people who are closest to him without even realizing it. He has acted in an unsensitive and heartless way towards his significant other, Rose, his brother, Gabriel and his children, Cory and Lyons. Toward the start of the story, Troy feels he has made them proud. He feels this all through the story. He doesn't understand the amount he has harmed them. • 17. Rhetorical Devices Used in Queen Elizabeth's Speech Through her speech, Queen Elizabeth inspired her people to fight for the country of England against the Spaniards. Queen Elizabeth persuaded the English troops to defend their country with rhetoric devices such as diction, imagery, and sentence structure to raise their morale and gain loyalty as a woman in power. Queen Elizabeth skillfully used diction throughout her speech to motivate the troops. In the speech, Queen Elizabeth used the word "we" four times to underscore her feeling of unity between her and her country. She conveyed her care about the welfare of everyone in the country. This inspired the soldiers to remain patriotic and want to fight for their nation. In addition, the queen refered to the soldiers as "noble" and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The whole phrase justified that she is, in fact, a strong leader, both politically and militaristically regardless of her being a woman. This phrase would help the queen gain respect from the soldiers who may not have respected her high position before because of her gender. In the same sentence, Queen Elizabeth uses a hyperbole to describe how much she cared for her country of England. She said, "I myself will take up arms". She, of course, had no intent to physically engage in the war along with the troops, but she was trying to depict the image of herself to the soldiers saying that she was willing to do anything for the sake of England. This convinced the troops that they should do the same. The queen's excellent use of imagery instilled respect for herself from the troops and inspired them to go to war. Queen Elizabeth expertly used sentence structure to instill confidence in the troops to fight the Spaniards and gain trust. In the speech, the queen used parallel structure to compare herself to a king, or man in power. She said that she has the body of a weak and feeble woman, but a strong heart of a king. The usage of parallel structure brought to light that even though she may not be physically able, she still cared about the well being of her people just as a king would. She conveyed the message that the people's respect towards her should be no different than that directed towards a king. In addition, Queen Elizabeth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The queen mother had died just hours after the birth. A fever, so the physicians claimed. A common tragedy, a palatable truth. The rumors persisted: the body was found bloodless, the child still in her arms. "It's a shame," the nursemaids said to one another. The child was swaddled in mourning clothes. The story emphasizes how the princess is confined due to her status as a woman, and is additionally degraded due to her failures at performing femininity. She lacks the "softness" and "grace" expected of her, therefore and cannot perform in traditionally feminine roles, exemplified by her inability and unwillingness to attract a suitor at the masquerade. She instead to embraces her unfeminine and monstrous tendencies, preying on the men in the forest and thus gaining power by retaking what they had "stolen" from nature (which, as a woman, is tied to her own being.) In line with Nancy Chodorow's theory of "Family Structure and Feminine Personality", the princess's ineptitude of femininity stems from her lack of female socialization. Her birth mother dies in childbirth, and is further shunned by her stepmother; after this, she receives no maternal guidance or connection, and is "passed from hand to hand" between various faux–maternal figures. Parental relationships are fraught with tense strife. The monster can only achieve her goals when reconnected with a maternal figure, and allowed to consume (though a tad grotesquely) the love that could be "only fully given by a mother," which is to say a mother's sacrifice for the sake of her child. In the twentieth century, particularly the past two decades, the political power to influence others resides in information: the more information you have and the more you know how to use it, the more potential influence you have. These are examples of direct use of advertisement to sway voters' decisions. There is a more indirect method as well where politicians use the news media to try to convey their message and hope the news will air or print it. During the National Referendum campaign the "No" side relied on this factor more than the "Yes" side did. In a Globe and Mail article before the vote, the reporter regurgitated what Judy Rebick had said about the "Yes" side being "top– heavy with politicians, government types, and opinion leaders"(6), and how the public respects the "No" side as it is "something that comes from the grassroots"(7). Summary Of ' People Make Choices ' Kameron Jarvis Mrs. Bowden English Two Honors 17 March 2016 "People make Choices" Introduction: From 1941 to 1945, The Holocaust took place in many countries, and millions of people died. Adolf Hitler came to power in 1933 in Germany, and had an "Aryan Race" which was the Nazi's idea of a master race. They thought that people with blonde hair and blue eyes were perfect. Adolf Hitler developed a plan called the "Final Solution," which was to kill mostly Jewish people, but also anyone who did not fit his standards. In France, many Jews were being deported to Germany, however; there was so many, that they had to stay in concentration camps in France. The survival rate in France was higher than any country in Europe during the Holocaust. Two very similar people who made very different choices were in France during the Holocaust. A leader should be someone that people are willing to stand behind; a leader should be strong and know their impact on the world. As Queen Elizabeth II said herself, "I know of no single formula for success. But over the years I have observed that some attributes of leadership are universal and are often about finding ways of encouraging people to combine their efforts, their talents, their insights, their enthusiasm and their inspiration to work together (BrainyQuote)". Last year, however, the Queen openly stated some negative opinions about Chinese officials; people were both outraged and offended by her remarks. Political opinions have been existent with the Queen on multiple other occasions, including remarks on Scotland and Brexit. These remarks have many people believing she is not a fit ruler. Although she did make these claims, they do not make her a bad leader. If anything, Queen Elizabeth II has benefitted from sharing her political opinions, as it has made her even more relatable than before. • 62. The Success And Success Of Sir Robert Gordon Menzies Sir Robert Gordon Menzies was an Australian politician who served two terms as Prime Minister, from 1939 to 1941, and, from 1949 until 1966. This amounts to a total of eighteen years, which is a record for time serving as Australian prime minister (WEB). In this essay, I shall delineate and analyse the secrets to Menzies' success, which I attribute to several factors, many of which were beyond the control of Menzies himself. Even before entering politics, Menzies developed talents that would serve him well for political success. Namely, during his time studying and practising law, Menzies developed a particularly strong oratorical ability which benefited him throughout his career. Additionally, it is clear from his days as a student that Menzies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The stinging electoral defeat suffered by the UAP under Hughes' leadership acted to further damage the reputation of Hughes which saw Menzies regaining support from members of parliament, and Menzies once again found himself as the leader of the UAP (GRIFFEN 5). From here, Murdoch set to work promoting and trying to bring about the creation of a new political party, a unification of non–labour parties with could legitimately challenge the labour party (GRIFFEN 5). In the wake of the 1943 federal election, Murdoch commented in the 'Herald' that the failed election campaign by non–labour parties "deteriorated from a bad beginning to a wretched end" and "that no good government could be formed out of the present opposition parties" (MURDOCH 1943b p4 GRIFFEN ... • 66. Adolf Hitler 's Influence On His Deeds During World War... Hitler Adolf Hitler has the image of having a ruthless evil character from his deeds during world war two. However evidences show that he was not a terribly evil person, but a normal person with large ambitions. Canadian prime minister Mackenzie King wrote in his journal after meeting with Adolf Hitler that, "he is really one who truly loves his fellow–men, and his country, and would make any sacrifice for their good...a man of deep sincerity and a genuine patriot," which all shows he was naturally a good person with a genuine ambition of wanting to create a better environment for himself and the country. In January 1933, Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany and immediately began to challenge the Treaty of Versailles and adapt an aggressive foreign policy, which led to war. It is not hard to blame Adolf Hitler for starting the war, however looking at evidences show that he was naturally a good person that was not taught or at the very least did not bother to realize the importance of learning to control his ambitions to not reach the level of selfish greediness. Hence ambition is needed to proceed forward but the control of it must be taught to refrain from these event occurring. Napoleon Napoleon was very ambitious to the point where it was greedy as shown in history books of his many battles. The historians hold divergent views regarding the motives behind these battles. • 74. Public Policies Of The Canadian Government Throughout Canadian history, a responsible government depended on the act of the nation working together to apply appropriate public policy. William Lyon Mackenzie King, the prime minister of Canada in the 1920s (and again in the 1930s) once said, "Where there is little or no public opinion, there is likely to be bad government, which sooner or later becomes autocratic government." This is true even almost 100 years later. A democratic society operates in relation to the voices of the nation. The Canadian government consists of many sectors to enforce this particular style of policy making, including the House of Commons, the Senate, the Cabinet, and of course, the prime minister. Many citizens may argue that these important sectors of government are aspects reflecting true democracy. On the other hand, some citizens might argue that the prime minister has significant control over Parliament alone, sometimes without the need for other voices. Government responsibility lies in the heart of the prime minister and can have significant control over different policy areas if he or she feels the need to do so. This often flies in the face of a democratic society. This paper will argue that the Prime Minister of Canada has too much power over Canadian public policy because he or she maintains party discipline, controls Cabinet ministers, and has power over what bills are passed in Parliament. These factors determine that the Prime Minister indeed continues to control government ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
