Welcome to this presentation about our amazing boat trip
to Wales in April 2014!!. We are going on a large deep boat
with our godparents Laura & Derek Day from 5th- 12th
April 2014.
We will be travelling and visiting places along our route
especially 2 amazing and rich aqudects that were built
during the period of Thomas Telford in the 18th Century.
4. Thomas Telford 1757-1834
Thomas Telford was born in 1757 near Eskdale. He was a Scottish
Enginner who wanted to build majestic buildings and bridges.
He started learning how to be a enginner at the young age of 14, he
became one of the most influence and popular artist who built
bridges in England and Wales.
At the end of his life, he was buried in Westminster Abbey after his
death in 1834 in London. He is one of my favourite enginners and
bridge designers.
5. The Pontyscyille Aqudect
In 1795 Thomas Telford began building the most majestic,
highest and biggest bridge in England. This bridge was to
carry a canal over a metal, iron bridge over the valley of the
rapping River Dee.
Telford began working on this bridge from 1795 until 1805,
he completed in the year of 1805 and today many people
can walk or boat across it.
6. The Horseshoe Falls
After Building the Pontyscyille Aqudect, Telford began
desgining a new waterway for people to look at. This would
allow the River Dee to expand and not go up into the Welsh
Hills. Today the waterfalls are view for many people to look at
them and to visit them daily.
