but the real star of this historical town began in the late 12th
century when a castle was built for Lady Anne Clifford.
The town now has 2 parish churches, a roman fort and a castle
maintained by English Heritage. The River Emount runs through the
town.

The castle at Brougham was founded in the 13th Century as part of
King Edward I castles in Cumbria. The Castle dates back from
13th century up to the present day.
Lady Anne Clifford lived at this castle and Today the castle is now
housed to English Heritage who look after this amazing castle in
Cumbria.
