Sun Air Museum
The Sun 'n Fun Air Museum is a Lakeland based museum dedicated to educating the public on the
future of flight. My visit to the museum was an educating experience filled with enthusiasm. This
experience taught me a lot about the history of aircraft, pilots, engines, so on. The air museum is not
only filled with facts and information; it is filled with donated planes and replicas. Walking inside
the museum was almost breathtaking, left and right there were airplanes, engines, models, and
replicas. However, it wasn't all fun and games, the museum educated the public on the achievements
and the progression of humanity. The beginning of the museum started out with the root of all
planes, the Wright brothers. Furthermore, the Wright brothers are widely known for building the
first flying airplane. Moreover, the museum included an exact replica of their first ... Show more

As difficult it is to say, war is the reason why technology evolves at such a fast rate. An example of
this fast evolution of technology would be the Cold War. The Cold War pushed America and Russia
to beat one another in getting to the moon, this was done through technology. Additionally, the
efforts of the war–torn countries is to outdo one another in order to win. The motivation of the
countries was displayed in the museum through their planes. In the beginning, they showed their
advancements by making their bombs more destructive then the planes themselves. After the war,
the push for technological advancement came to a slow pace. Many pilots lost their jobs and there
was no need for them in America. These pilots in return, turned to the profession of crop–dusting. In
essence, crop–dusters are people who pollinate fields for farming to increase harvests. This
knowledge was attained through the museum and it was really interesting to learn about

Descriptive Essay About Disney World
Have you ever gone to Disney World? Well I have and it was so much fun! There are different
themed areas inside of the park like, Fantasyland,, Tomorrowland, and Main Street to name a few.
Each area is like walking into a whole different place. One second you're in Fantasy Land and the
next you are in Tomorrowland.
The first thing that you see when you walk into the actual park is Magic kingdom. Magic kingdom
feels truly magical. There is a giant castle, Cinderellas castle, where you can have a royal feast with
all the princesses and look over the park during the day or night. My family had a late reservation,
and we would walk out and see the entire park light up without one single person. On our 3rd day
my mom dragged me onto the Everest ride, one I was dreading. Everest is a big mountain with a fun
scene and the most popular ride not including space mountain, but we will get to that later. Mount
Everest was so fun in the beginning i tried to back out but once we got close my mom told me that i
had to ride time ride the ride because she knew i would love it, i was just too scared.(the ride is huge
and looks really scary, so you can't blame me) The ride went up into a cave and the saw a monkey
trying to grab you because it looked like the track were broken, so he was taking on his food i guess.
At the first moment you think that you are going to go backward down the giant hill you see when
you pass it, but the secretly change paths and then you go down the giant hill

Abstract (summary)
Business Ethics is about appropriate or right and wrong behavior to be carried in business. In this
paper, the general principle of ethic will be applied on the analysis of the ethical issue of the Walt
Disney Company. The recommendations we believed that can help to address the ethical problems
are also included in this paper.
Background of The Walt Disney Company
The Walt Disney Company is a international entertainment and media enterprise. It has established
for more than nine decades and developed from a cartoon studio in the 1920s to the global
corporation today. The Walt Disney Company is consisted of five business segments which are

The Hong Kong Disneyland Cast Member 's Union is set up in 2005 and aims to protect and fight
for the right of the employees of Hong Kong Disneyland. Since the opening of the Hong Kong
Disneyland, it has received over 250 complaints from the employees about being treated unfairly
during their working period.
On the other hand, there is a ethical dilemma in the China 's market. The wage paid for local
Chinese employees and US employees who work in the Chinese Walt Parks are different. The
reason of the difference is that it is expensive for US employees to live in China. It is not justice for
the local Chinese employees with lower wages. The Walt Disney Company can not act appropriate
under the Principle of Justice as they can not provide an environment with fair treatment for their
employees.
Principle of Caring
Under the Principle of Caring, a person is trusted as relational but not as an individual.
For the employees of the Hong Kong Disneyland, they are required to build up an operative role and
same belief of making dream into a reality. However, in fact, they have to wear the overweight
costumes which weight over 35 lbs with one size with long period of working hours. If employees
are shorter, they will need to add pads on their shoulder to bear the overweight costumes. If
employees are taller, they will need to wrap their back to fit the costumes. These will cause

CHAPTER 4 ° SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ENVIRONMENTS 114B

Disney Learns to "Act Local" on the Global Stage
The Walt Disney Company, home to Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and other iconic characters, has
a stellar reputation in many parts of the world for its family–friendly entertainment offerings. The
company 's parks and resorts division operates theme parks in five global locations, including a
recent $1.8 billion park in Hong Kong. Disney 's fabled studio entertainment unit has an illustrious
history in both animation and live–action features. The Lion King, released in 1994, is the highest
grossing animated film of all time. More recently, Disney has enjoyed massive hits with ... Show

Disney 's other divisions are also pursuing a more localized approach in key emerging markets. As
Jason Reed, general manager for Walt Disney Studios International Productions, noted, "We 've
been very successful with our big global productions, such as Pirates of the Caribbean and National
Treasure. But we think there 's a natural way to supplement these films in areas like China, Russia,
and India–areas that have built–in film traditions."
For example, in India Disney is abandoning its go–it–alone policy and partnering with local
companies such as Yash Raj Films. One new Hindi–language show, Dhoom Machaao Dhoom,
concerns a girl 's quest for identity after living in the United States; another show, Vicky and Vetal,
concerns a boy 's friendship with a 300–year–old ghost. The new approach is clearly paying off. In
2008, Disney released Roadside Romeo, its first animated feature developed specifically for India.
The film was box–office gold, with the best opening weekend of any Disney feature in India.
Disney is hoping to appeal to India 's family–oriented middle–class consumers; core themes include
"believe in yourself, express yourself, and celebrate your family." Because the number of cable
television subscribers is increasingly rapidly, Disney launched the Disney Channel and Toon Disney.
In addition, the company acquired Hugama, a children 's channel. Disney is also making Indian
versions of its hit movie High

The Main Street USA Zone: A Disney Theme Park
Introduction A basic of Disney theme park is the Main Street USA zone. This section features highly
in all of the parks, usually coming right after the entrance. Key services like Guest Relations are
located in this section, inside the "City Hall" (HK Disney Source, 2014) . There are a number of
elements of the Main Street USA exhibit, and these will be discussed along with the history of Main
Street USA in this paper. In particular, how the different elements of Main Street USA work together
are covered. The concept has proven to be ultimate, even across cultures, because of its magical
portrayal of idealized American life, which draws heavily on Walt Disney's own childhood
experiences.
Main Street USA is a prominent street within the famous Disneyland Park and which was influenced
by Walt Disney's hometown in Marceline Missouri. This Main Street is almost presented as a
dollhouse. In the very beginning, Main Street USA was just made up of few attractions like the
railroads and the Main Street vehicles hub, which added to the sense of realism in the park, making
it seem more like a dynamic area full of progress and forward motion. Later on in the 1970s, the
theme of Disney, and Disney the brand were added to the Main Street area, creating an overall
'Dineyfication' of it. This made Main Street into a type of multidimensional gift shop for the entire
amusement park. Now days, it seems less like a charming town and more like a bustling and busy
miniature city.

to all of the Burbank, Calif.–based entertainment giant 's worldwide employees – including its
roughly 60,000 workers at Walt Disney World. The policy, which recently took effect, also prohibits
employees from making or receiving phone calls while driving on the job unless they use a single

Case Study Of Disneyland
I would like to choose Hong Kong Disneyland (Case 6–20) for conducting an analysis. The Walt
Disney Company was created in 1923. The mission of the company is to provide superior
entertainment experiences for the guests of all ages. Walt Disney Company opened the two theme
parks in United State. Afterwards, they adopted the "international expansion strategy" which opened
Disney in Tokyo and Paris. However, the outcomes of theme parks in Tokyo and Paris were very
extreme. Tokyo Disney Resort was one of the most successful theme park in the world. On the
Contrary, Disney Resort Paris was much less successful. The major reason causes this extreme result
was the cultural differences between two countries which I would discover below.

At the beginnings, there were some startup problems encountered by them. The first problem was
about the miscalculation on the capacity limit of the park. The capacity limit of park which HKDL
estimated was 30,000 visitors per day. On the first day of the operation, there were 29,000 guests
entered the park. This caused the average waiting time for the attractions more than two hours. And
the average queuing time of the restaurants was 45 minutes. HKDL has experienced the lesson and
decrease the capacity limit afterwards. On the other hand, they extend the park's opening time by
one hour and encourage weekdays visit by providing several discounts to solve this problem. The
second issue which HKDL had restricted the police or the inspectors from hygiene department to get
into the park. Unless there is a pre–arrangement with the park's security department. For examples, a
guest and his daughter were in the Main Street, U.S.A. and they were hurt by detritus. HKDL
refused to call ambulance as they would not like to damage the happiness or fantasized image of the
theme park. To solve this problem Disneyland appease the guest and his daughter with a Winnie the

One example is how the company embarrassed Hygiene Department inspectors by asking them to
remove their badges. Another example is that police cannot enter the park unless per–arranged by
security. Finally, one major weakness of the company is relying on the dreams of children. Children
are a major marketing to create customers for Disney. Sometimes, they can like other characters
from other companies, or their parents do not want to bring them to a Disney park. Identification of
opportunities and threats in the external environment There are many opportunities that come from
the external environment. First Mainland China is

who came to Hong Kong were from Mainland China.(Phatak et al., 2009, p.153) In recent years,
Chinese have come to enjoy some aspects of Western Culture. These Chinese visitors were expected
to want to spend more money of vacations. Hong Kong its self also had many external factors which
aided Hong Kong Disney. Hong Kong citizens live close to the park. They live in a reasonable
distance that they did not need accommodation to stay at the park. Hong Kong is considered one of

As a result, Disney Resort Tokyo was received well by the Japanese, thus a foundation of trust was
built between Disney and the Japanese culture. Another major issue HKD faced when launching its
theme park was not understanding the cultural landscape and its population. After the park was
constructed and its gates opened the company noticed a problem with its capacity limit of 30,000
visitors may have been too high. This was very noticeable when is received a rush of Mainland
Chinese tourist during the Chinese New Year, which resulted in longer wait times for rides and food.
As a result of this incident, the commissioner of the Hong Kong Consumer Council said, "Disney
had failed to learn about the cultural traditions and consumption habits of Chinese people" (Craven
& Piercy, 2013). Disney soon realized that it underestimated the cultural environment. In an effort to
counter this issue head on Disney initiated discussions to create Disney Shanghai. According to
Michael Chin, director of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP's North Asia leisure–industry consulting
group, "A single Disney park could not capture the entire China market" (Orwall, Leggett &
Coleman, 2002). This presents a unique opportunity for Disney in the Chinese market. For example,
Disney has shown in Orlando and Anaheim, the company can still thrive as part of a

Marketing Plan Of Disneyland Adopt The Chinese People Culture
Part: – A
Q: – 1, which strategic action Disney took in terms of consumer focused initiative?
ANS :–
Hong Kong Disneyland use the consumerism strategic for attracting the customer in Hong Kong
because, this is the first park of Disneyland in china and here the culture of people and environment
are totally different from U.S.A environment.
Consumerism:
In this strategy company only focus on the customer need and their culture and that kind of changes
are made in the firm by adopting the customer and that culture or people.
Example:
In this case study Disneyland adopt the Chinese people culture and made the changes in park to
attract the more customer like they changes made in location , interior and exterior. In the location
Chinese people are avoid the number four usage because they sounds like "death "in Cantonese and
unlucky. So Disneyland of Hong Kong did not have fourth floor.
The other example of colors, Chinese people are more like red colure due to the symbolic
representation of prosperity so Disneyland also made the changes where there is possible in the
park. In short Hong Kong Disneyland for attracting the customer they adopt the Chinese culture and
made the changes as per their culture in the theme park.
Q: – 2 what do you view to be a key source of consumer value for Disney's offerings?
ANS: – In these cases following things are offer by Disneyland for consumer value
1) Personalize experience :
2) Time spending with family
3) Enjoyment
4) Culture of people

Q.1
Disney theme park is world most recognized place to visit in the world as big brand. Hong Kong
Disneyland is globally known in the world and has grown rapidly. This theme park is mostly
Chinese market oriented as much Chinese entertainment and media spending in this business to
grow their market in Asia. The first Disneyland was opened in July 17, 1955 in Los Angeles and the
most recent in 2005 in Hong Kong.
The issue rise when Tokyo Disneyland was launched in Japan as they bring down the American
theme park and reproduced in Tokyo. When they launched new project in Euro they saw the culture
issue over there in Paris as there was complex culture difference.
The issue was than solved by Mr.Stephn Burke as there was vast difference between two cultures he
focused on marketing strategies which attracts the customers.
 Focused on hiring talented staff who are friendly and outgoing with Disney cast
 Given more training
 Placed more cast in Disney that attracts the culture
 They remove alcohol ban in theme park
 More relaxing for Disney's hierarchical management structure
 Reduced managerial staff by almost 1000 in order to flatten the management and empower the
employees with more duties and authorities. (technology, 2015)

International Joint Ventures Is The Second Circumstance...
3.0 Definition of IJVs International joint ventures is an overseas business owned and controlled by
two or more partners; starting such a venture is often as an entry strategy (Deresky, H. 2014.p.377),
while joint ventures refers to an independent entity jointly created and owned by two or more parent
company. 4.0 Circumstances under which Multinational Enterprises (MNEs) internationalize using
IJVs Risk sharing is one of the circumstance why MNEs form JV, it is commonly practiced in
industries that require high capital and where the cost of developing a product is very high (Zhou
and Li 2008). IJVs allows to gain rapid entry into a new industry and to benefit from synergies to
develop a new product or technology (Dr. Ananthram. 2016). For example NEC–AT&T. Economies
of scale is the second circumstance for MNEs using IJVs. Due to the enjoyment of economies of
scale obtained by MNEs allows it to form a JV with a large company to compete at a global level
where the pool their resources in order to reach a wider consumer base (Deresky, H. 2014.p.238).
The third circumstance for MNEs using IJV is to gain access to a specific market, where regulations
favour domestic companies for example China, Russia (EU) (Dr. Ananthram. 2016). In this case the
MNEs do not have the understanding of carrying out business activities in another country, which
may include the taste of consumer products or appropriate methods of distribution which in turn can
prove to be expensive and time

Disney has been on an international expansion since it first opened its park in 1980 in Japan and
China being the most lucrative market, Disney decided to open the park in Hong Kong after
selecting the city in the bidding process. The park was the first American park in Chinese territory.

Like during the Park preview, the management had to apologize for the arrogant attitude of its
American staff. Disney University should customize its trainings to provide quality service towards
Asia customers. Meanwhile, more quality control should be introduced to improve service quality.
3. Capacity issue The actual number of visitors per year never hit the expected number. However,
sometimes the park still got too crowded and had to prevent visitors from coming in. During
Chinese New Year in Feb 2006, hundreds of people with valid 6–month ticket could not enter the
park. It led to chaos and further eroded Hong Kong Disney's image. Generally this is due to poor
capacity planning. Disney tried to boost attendance rate, but neglect its peak capacity. It should
smooth demand relative to available park capacity. 4. Workforce issue Employees complained the
unfair and inhuman treatment from the management. The 5000 frontline "case members" had to
wear heavy costumes and worked long shifts of 11 to 13 hours per day under a chaotic shift system.
Yet they had to accept the unfair salary calculation compare to that of US Disney parks. The
management should reconsider frontline staff welfare and try to boost staff morale. Under Service
Profit Chain, satisfied and loyal employees are far more productive thus to generate more service
value to customers. Customer satisfaction drives customer loyalty. And loyalty is the

The Value Drivers From The Hong Kong
As representatives of the Hong Kong (HK) government in the negotiations of the potential joint
venture between the government and Walt Disney Company with the purpose of building a
Disneyland theme park in Hong Kong, it is our job to determine what the net benefit will be of the
project to the Hong Kong economy and how we should strive to structure the venture in negotiations
with Disney to maximize the net benefit to Hong Kong. Based on our best assumptions about the
future and how we think the venture will ultimately be structured, we believe that the net benefit to
the Hong Kong economy will be HK$345,689.79 million dollars. In the following paragraphs, we
will provide some background information on the project, identify the key value drivers from our
perspective, provide a summary of our sensitivities to these value drivers, estimate the value of the
joint venture under alternative scenarios, map out a negotiation strategy, and explain how we
calculated our best estimate of the net benefit of the project to Hong Kong.
Background Information
First, we believe that it is necessary to provide some background information about the project from
Disney's and Hong Kong's perspective. Walt Disney has been considering a proposal to build a new
theme park in Asia for some years. In the last few years (late 1990s), the company has seen investors
flock to mainland China and is therefore keen to gain a foothold in the Chinese market by opening a

Walt Disney 's Theme Park
July 17, 1955, marked the grand opening of Walt Disney's first major theme park opening. Since
1955, Walt Disney's idea of a theme park has adapted to more than just a carnival.
Currently there are six Disney theme parks worldwide. The United States holds two theme parks,
Disneyland Park in California and Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. China also holds two
theme parks, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Disneyland Shanghai. While, Japan and Paris only hold
one theme park, Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris. Each new Disney park strives to be
unique, create fun attractions and serve cuisine that appeal to the citizens of its location but remain
consistently classic.

Regular tickets are one hundred and seven dollars. Value ticket prices are ninety–nine dollars and
peak ticket prices are one hundred and nineteen dollars. Surprisingly, regular ticket prices at Disney

Disneyland Hong Kong has seven themed lands. Similarly to Disneyland Anaheim, Adventureland,
Tomorrowland, Fantasyland and Main Street USA are all feature themed lands at Disneyland Hong
Kong. In contrast Grizzly Gulch, Mystic point and Toy Story Land are newly created lands. Dumbo
the Flying Elephant and Sleeping Beauty's castle are classic attractions. However, Slinky Dog Spin
and RC Racer are new attractions that still remain consistent with the theme of other Walt Disney
parks.
Significantly lower than both Disneyland Anaheim and Disney World, Disneyland Hong Kong has
twenty–four restaurants. Another notable difference is the style of cuisine which is primarily
Chinese or Asian.
Also, ticket pricing varies by age. General admission tickets for ages twelve to sixty–four are five
hundred and eighty–nine Hong Kong dollars. General admission tickets for children ages three to
eleven tickets are four hundred and nineteen Hong Kong dollars. While ticket prices for senior's
ages sixty–five and over are one hundred Hong Kong dollars. It might be worthy to note that senior

Strategic Action Disney 's Concept Of Consumer Focused...
Part – A
Question 1. Which strategic action Disney took in terms of consumer focused initiative? Give
examples.
Disney had global recognition and an association with fun and family, but senior managers and
strategists now understood that they need to truly understand the cultures of their host nations.
They see that consumer always attract with their culture oriented place. Because in case study we
see that in most of the Disneyland they try to focus as per the area or their cultural values. So for
that they apply different strategies for increasing their business in non–american markets of the
disney.
For example
In early stage of Disney opening in Paris, we find that Disney was accused of ignoring French
culture and criticised for exporting American imperialism in its European venture. The issues
regarding language, alcohol consumption and pricing of tickets and merchandise damaged the
Disney brand.
From the above negative things they do some measure changes. First, the name euro Disney was
changed to a more nationalistic Paris Disneyland, so that the French would be more receptive to it.
They implement some strategies like,
Focus on hiring an outgoing and friendly Disney cast
Increased training
The placement of additional Disney characters throughout the park. They include the French culture.
Remove the ban on alcohol in the theme park.
Lowering the corporate Disney premium on admission, merchandise, hotels and food

Sleeping Beauty's Castle
The past has a great influence on present culture. However ideas and themes of the past can change
with time. This is true with the ideas associated with the medieval castle. These castles, which once
served as a military fortress as well as a residence, are now often associated with the fantastical,

A fantasy world involving kings and queens; knights and courtly love.
Sleeping Beauty's castle resembles a late 14th, early 15th century castle, Pierrefonds. Pierrefonds is
located in Northern France, near the city of Compiegne. Pierrefonds was one of a group of castles
constructed by the Compte de Valois to form a vast military area threatening Paris. It replaced an
older citadel which had fallen through years of war. This new castle did not last long either before it
began to crumble. It suffered through various battles, such as the Hundred years war, in which the
English and French fought over this castle, and it's domain, as well as over many others. By the time
Napoleon had acquired power, the castle was in ruins. It was his nephew, Napoleon III, who took on
the task of restoring the castle. He hired the famous architect, Viollet–le–Doc, the same architect
who headed the reconstruction of the Notre Dame, to rebuild the castle. Pierrefonds was much
altered in Viollet's restoration; however its general external appearance is a faithful representation of
what once existed. The Pierrefonds castle is typical of a medieval gothic castle because it functioned
as a protective fortress as well as an elaborate residence. The castle formed an enclosed fortified
stronghold from which aristocrats could rule their domain, and govern over the local town.

Case Study Of Walt Disney
Walt Disney opened the first Disneyland in Anaheim, California, on July 17, 1955, he created a
unique and completely new destination unlike any of its time. Since then Walt Disney Parks and
Resorts (WDPR) has become a world leader, opening 6 Disneyland's with 12 theme parks and 52
resorts across North America, Europe, and Asia. The Disneyland involved in this case study was the
second built in Asia, Hong Kong Disneyland (HKD). The problem facing HKD and moreover
WDPR was their inclusion of shark fin soup in the Chinese–banquet style reception of their Fairy
Tale Wedding package. Although, culturally this dish is a Chinese staple HKD faced severe backlash
from environmentalists worldwide including Hong Kong. The reason for conducting their program
was because of protests and worldwide criticism from environmental groups. Disney's program was
reactive because the addition of shark fin soup in their Chinese wedding reception banquet was an
attempt to incorporate a cultural mainstay which obviously rebounded resulting in their reacting to
criticism instead of anticipating it. It's unclear from the case study whether HKD researched this
topic before it became an issue but it is evident they did research this topic during the campaign
consisting of secondary research that was regurgitated as part of their program. Although in
hindsight it is hard to believe HKD would have been oblivious to what seemed like a very
controversial dish in Asia. The publics for HKD was

Marketing, Positioning and Consumer research by justifying the answers for the below questions.
Question 1: Which strategic action Disney took in terms of consumer focused initiative? Give
Examples. Hong Kong's recent reinstatement as the world's freest economy1 reconfirmed its claim
as a central hub for international business travelers. Its exceptional shopping and fine dining
opportunities also make it a major tourist Mecca. Hong Kong was especially a unique shopping
experience for visitors from China mainland and the world. From glitzy malls to funky street
markets, and trendy boutiques to traditional Chinese products stores and themed shopping districts,
tourists could find everything to satisfy their shopping fantasies. The HKSAR government had
continued to invest in a number of strategic initiatives to boost travel and tourism, further securing
its ranking by the World Tourism Association as the second most popular city in Asia. Disney's
target market consists mainly of family–oriented Asian tourists, primarily those from mainland
China, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia. The mainland China accounted for large number of incoming
visitors. At the time of Hong Kong Disneyland's establishment, Hong Kong already enjoyed
booming business and tourism sectors, but the government believed that the latter would be
invigorated by the creation of a then absent "family tourist" niche. Below are the

General Definitions. Before Going Into The Background Of
General Definitions
Before going into the background of the Walt Disney Company and its theme parks, it is necessary
to define some terms that are used throughout the paper. These terms are defined as the researcher
understands them as a former cast member of the Walt Disney Company. The first term that needs to
be defined is "guest". Instead of calling people who visit their theme parks customers, the Walt
Disney Company refers to visitors of their theme parks as guests. This is to keep up with the show
and the storytelling of the company since Disney is inviting visitors into their home as their guests.
The second term is "cast member". Instead of calling their employees, employees, Disney refers to
their employees as cast members. Since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the focus of this paper is international theme parks, only a brief history of the American theme
parks will be discussed. Walt Disney thought of the idea of the theme park one day when he took his
daughters to a local park and watched them as they rode the merry–go–round (Disney, 2009).
Disney wanted a place where children and their parents could have fun and enjoy the rides together
(Disney, 2009). Disneyland was, thus,
Conceived as a celebration of America's past and as a paean to its progress, or as Walt Disney put it:
'the older generation can recapture the nostalgia of the days gone by, and the younger generation can
savor the challenge of the future (Bryman, 1999, p.31).
As Bryman argues, Disneyland was designed to make the older generation feel nostalgic. This
feeling of nostalgia is created on Main Street, USA and Frontierland which represent America's past.
Disneyland was also created to capture the imagination of children as seen in Fantasyland and
Tomorrowland.
Disneyland opened in Anaheim, California on July 17th, 1955. Walt Disney's theme park idea soon
expanded past what he had space to build in California which prompted the building of the Walt
Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. The Magic Kingdom, the first theme park built at Disney
World, opened after his death in October of 1971 (Disney, 2009). The feeling of nostalgia is
recreated and expanded in the Magic Kingdom with the addition of a land named "Liberty Square".

Kong. There was an 800,000 increase of visitors for Tokyo Disney while and 600,000 increase for
Hong Kong Disneyland. This increase for Hong Kong Disneyland was mainly due to the rising
number of tourists from Mainland China. New marketing strategies and additional attractions to the
park were also done to increase visitors. Currently, while China's economy is prospering, Disney's
plan to construct a new park in Shanghai is moving very quickly. The Disney Shanghai is set to open
its doors to the excited public on the year 2016. It is said that the continuous growth in Asia will

Which strategic action disney took in terms of consumer focused initiative? Walt Disney is a well
known brand known all over the world. It launched a theme park, Disneyland, in Hong Kong in
2005 which was the smallest of the five already existing disneylands in different parts of the world.
It was started mainly to cater the Hong Kong people as the chinese market is rapidly growing and it
was a good and profitable move to open up disneyland in Hong Kong. The strategy which Disney
adopted is highly diversify. The company diversified its brand into different businesses like theme
parks, television networks, hotels, books and toys for children, animated and motion films etc. Soon
it erupted as a big and well known brand in the entertainment industry. The company's strategy is to
produce qualitative goods and services and engaging modern technology with their services and
expand their brand globally. In 1993 disney opened a theme park in Japan which was very
successful. After its huge success the next one was at Paris in 1992. Disney was an American brand
and entering into non american markets was not easy for them because of many cultural differences.
They wanted to enter european market but for entering non american european markets the
management understood the fact that they need to understand the cultural differences first. To cater
the european french market, the company restructured its management completely so that they can

Hong Kong Disneyland Case Study
Introduction The purpose of this paper is to analyze the Walt Disney Company and their expansion
into Hong Kong with the theme park Hong Kong Disneyland (HKD). The Walt Disney Company
was founded in 1923 by Walt Disney. It was a company founded upon as an entertainment
experience for people of all ages starting out with short films and then moving into full length
motion pictures. Since its inception the Disney Company has grown into a worldwide organization
and is made up of four major areas. Those areas are studio entertainment, consumer products, media
networks, and parks and resorts. As of 2005 only two of these four areas were profitable, those being
media networks and parks and resorts. Up until the opening of HKD, Disney had ... Show more

This idea was no different with the establishment of HKD. Aside from this worldwide perception
that Disney has HKD sought to bring visitors for other reasons as well. One of the main strategies
was to offer this experience at a very affordable rate. The price for a one day was $295 in Hong
Kong which is equivalent to $38 in the United States. Along with these low rates there were also
many special offers that were constantly available to visitors. These offers included special rates for
certain occasions, discounted rates for children and senior citizens and the ability to purchase
packages through travel agencies. In fact HKD encouraged the purchase of tickets through travel
agents and on their website. They limited the number tickets that were able to be bought by walk up
visitors to keep the wait to enter the park at a minimum. Another corporate strategy was the
emphasis that Disney put on their employees or cast member as they refer to them as. Every
employee that was hired was sent to the Walt Disney Park in Orlando for training to get accustomed
to the expectations of a Walt Disney employee. Along with this extensive training each employee
was required to speak multiple languages in order to cater to all guests that may be visiting the park.
With that being said the corporate strategy for Disney, and specifically that of HKD, does

Part A 1. Which strategic action Disney took in terms of consumer focused initiative? As Disney
decided to go global, their first expansion was launched in Japan in 1983 and eventually turned out
to be a success but it' proved to be a false sense of security for its overseas expansion'. When Disney
launched its name on the European market in 1992, there were a lot of cultural issues that arose
during its planning stages. They were particularly accused of ignoring the French culture and
exporting American Imperialism in its European Venture. The main issues were alcohol
consumption, language, pricing of tickets and merchandise tarnished the name of the Disney brand.
Farmers also protested for the fact that Disney would be using their precious land in constructing
their theme parks. These issues made Disney aware that venturing into non–American markets
would be very complex due to cultural differences. (Cohen, N/A) Stephen Burke, the vice president
in charge of park operations and marketing at Euro Disney then decided to change the name from
Euro Disney to Paris Disneyland to give French a more nationalistic approach to it, the strategies to
adapt into the French culture were removing the ban on alcohol in the theme park, lowering the

My Journey To Hong Kong Essay
Like many things, my journey to Hong Kong has a beginning, middle and end but, not in that order.
I would always assume that the beginning of my journey started the moment I stepped on Cebu
Pacific flight headed to my version of a divine abode. Even as I approached my destination, I
remained oblivious to the fact that what lay ahead of me consisted more than that of a theme park
and cold weather. In the end, I realized that there is more to a chilly city with Disneyland.
Inching my way towards the city lights, I left the Philippines for a new world half expecting 9 out of
8 civilians dressed like runway models and a really good theme park. I got all that and more as I
have seen a woman dressed like a supermodel casually strolling down the streets and a lesson I

realized my journey only ended a week or two after my stay, as I found out that there is more to

its east and west fusion will never elude me. Though the time I've spent on earth has been too
limited to jump to conclusions, I'm quite certain that Hong Kong is a city that I'll lovingly recall
even as I end my journey. I will look forward to another time where I can visit this urban jungle,
until then, I can only hope that others would agree with my presumptions. Otherwise, you may see
for yourself what exactly I am talking about. I'm starting to here this incessant chattering in my
head. A sound or rather a catchy song that reminds me of the journey I made into the small, small
world that is Hong Kong. A world that knows no bounds but is bounded in an island. A world that

The reason why I am interested in developing a career with Hong Kong Disneyland is that
Disneyland is one of the famous theme park in the world. I believe working in Disneyland can
broaden my horizon and expand my social network. Most importantly, Hong Kong Disneyland has
the passion to become the best theme park. As a newspaper reports, Hong Kong Disneyland will
launch an expansion plan, including building new theme areas and new amusement facilities for
Marvel Super heroes. With this new theme areas and new amusement facilities, I believe Hong
Kong Disneyland will obtain great support in Chinese market. Also, I think Hong Kong Disneyland
will become more attractive and famous in the future since the Disneyland company has owned the
21st century fox. By owning the 21st century fox, Disneyland company has the copyright of many
new characters, which makes Hong Kong Disneyland able to build more theme areas, such as
deadpool's theme area, alien's theme area, or x–men's theme area. With the copyright of the new
characters, I believe Hong Kong Disneyland has a broad development space in the future. Therefore,
I want to join Hong Kong Disneyland.

Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams and the hard facts that have created America...with
the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world. – Walt Disney, founder of
Disneyland, 19552 Disneyland was more than entertainment. It was about creating a fantasy world
as an escape–a holiday away from the strain of the bustling world. The business model of
Disneyland thrived upon the concept of a Disney resort with attractions, restaurants, merchandise
shops and hotels. A visit to Disneyland was touted as a vacation trip spanning several days.
Excluding hotels, income from admission fees constituted around 49% of the park's income, while
the remaining 51% came from merchandise sales and restaurants.3 Most of Disneyland's attractions
had a rigid limit on the number of visitors that could be accommodated at a particular time. To enjoy
popular rides, a waiting time of one to two hours was normal. In general, visitors were fairly patient

childhood memories. In this way, the Disney culture was passed on from one generation to the next.

Q2. As Disney would you sign the standard commitment letter? Which parts might concern you and
why? As Chase, which parts are you willing to alter or remove?
From Disney's standpoint, they should sign the commitment letter. Chase has had maximum
flexibility with the desires of Disney. Chase has probably allowed terms that other banks would not
have been so easy to accept, which might be because of the strong relationship between the bank
and Disney. The only clause that might concern Disney is the "Market flex provision". However,
given how flexible Chase is being with most of the terms, it is only reasonable that they protect
themselves from some of the risks involving the Hong Kong Dollar fluctuations. It is as
Chandiramani, of the Chase deal team, argued: "Things can change between the time you sign a deal
and the time you try close it".
On the other hand, from Chase's point of view, they should not alter any more of the covenants of
the commitment letter. They have already been flexible enough with Disney in giving them most of

In this rapid growing global market, there are tons of competitions and challenges Chase has to

What makes the company's market brand strong in the US Is extensive customer reach of the
company's cable networks operations. It enables higher margins for the company and highlights

which have broader reach enjoy higher pricing for the advertisement sales on the channels.
Furthermore, the company has a strong brand portfolio. The company has built a collection of some
of the world's best media brands that provide a lot of opportunities for the company to continue to

weakened the company because of internal negligence is unfunded pension benefit obligation which
forces the company to make additional cash contributions which reduces cash flow available for

powerhouse encompassed by the Disney Corporation has enjoyed massive success in exporting its
brand, identity and products internationally. And on a domestic scale, Disney's theme parks and
resorts have achieved a level of success fully unparalleled in the tourism amusement industry.
However, success on a similar scale remains quite elusive where the international theme park
industry is concerned. Just as Disney has struggled to gain a foothold with its Paris–based theme
park, so too has its Hong Kong destination manifested more challenges than victories. As an article
by Schuman (2006) reports, the theme park has earned overwhelmingly negative feedback from its
first score of visitors, most of whom found an underwhelming offering of rides, a lackluster array of
attractions and a surprisingly modestly sized park. According to Schuman, Disney's developers
strangely underestimated both attendance numbers and visitor expectations. Schuman reports at the
time of its opening that "Hong Kong Disneyland has a mere 16 attractions–only one a classic Disney
thrill ride, Space Mountain compared to 52 at Disneyland Resort Paris. Meanwhile, management
glitches involving everything from ticketing to employee relations have further tarnished the
venture's image. In a recent survey conducted by Hong Kong Polytechnic University, 70% of the
local residents polled said they had a more negative opinion of

Among these, a few in particular, is extremely crucial in the overall process. Situational analysis is
one of the important steps as it creates an environment for the planners to understand the condition
in which Disneyland is having. The different types of situational analysis include general
environmental analysis, competitive environmental analysis, and the SWOT analysis. Analysing

Sun Air Museum

  • 1. Sun Air Museum The Sun 'n Fun Air Museum is a Lakeland based museum dedicated to educating the public on the future of flight. My visit to the museum was an educating experience filled with enthusiasm. This experience taught me a lot about the history of aircraft, pilots, engines, so on. The air museum is not only filled with facts and information; it is filled with donated planes and replicas. Walking inside the museum was almost breathtaking, left and right there were airplanes, engines, models, and replicas. However, it wasn't all fun and games, the museum educated the public on the achievements and the progression of humanity. The beginning of the museum started out with the root of all planes, the Wright brothers. Furthermore, the Wright brothers are widely known for building the first flying airplane. Moreover, the museum included an exact replica of their first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As difficult it is to say, war is the reason why technology evolves at such a fast rate. An example of this fast evolution of technology would be the Cold War. The Cold War pushed America and Russia to beat one another in getting to the moon, this was done through technology. Additionally, the efforts of the war–torn countries is to outdo one another in order to win. The motivation of the countries was displayed in the museum through their planes. In the beginning, they showed their advancements by making their bombs more destructive then the planes themselves. After the war, the push for technological advancement came to a slow pace. Many pilots lost their jobs and there was no need for them in America. These pilots in return, turned to the profession of crop–dusting. In essence, crop–dusters are people who pollinate fields for farming to increase harvests. This knowledge was attained through the museum and it was really interesting to learn about ... • 6. Descriptive Essay About Disney World Have you ever gone to Disney World? Well I have and it was so much fun! There are different themed areas inside of the park like, Fantasyland,, Tomorrowland, and Main Street to name a few. Each area is like walking into a whole different place. One second you're in Fantasy Land and the next you are in Tomorrowland. The first thing that you see when you walk into the actual park is Magic kingdom. Magic kingdom feels truly magical. There is a giant castle, Cinderellas castle, where you can have a royal feast with all the princesses and look over the park during the day or night. My family had a late reservation, and we would walk out and see the entire park light up without one single person. On our 3rd day my mom dragged me onto the Everest ride, one I was dreading. Everest is a big mountain with a fun scene and the most popular ride not including space mountain, but we will get to that later. Mount Everest was so fun in the beginning i tried to back out but once we got close my mom told me that i had to ride time ride the ride because she knew i would love it, i was just too scared.(the ride is huge and looks really scary, so you can't blame me) The ride went up into a cave and the saw a monkey trying to grab you because it looked like the track were broken, so he was taking on his food i guess. On the other hand, there is a ethical dilemma in the China 's market. The wage paid for local Chinese employees and US employees who work in the Chinese Walt Parks are different. The reason of the difference is that it is expensive for US employees to live in China. It is not justice for the local Chinese employees with lower wages. The Walt Disney Company can not act appropriate under the Principle of Justice as they can not provide an environment with fair treatment for their employees. As Jason Reed, general manager for Walt Disney Studios International Productions, noted, "We 've been very successful with our big global productions, such as Pirates of the Caribbean and National Treasure. But we think there 's a natural way to supplement these films in areas like China, Russia, and India–areas that have built–in film traditions." For example, in India Disney is abandoning its go–it–alone policy and partnering with local companies such as Yash Raj Films. One new Hindi–language show, Dhoom Machaao Dhoom, concerns a girl 's quest for identity after living in the United States; another show, Vicky and Vetal, concerns a boy 's friendship with a 300–year–old ghost. The new approach is clearly paying off. In 2008, Disney released Roadside Romeo, its first animated feature developed specifically for India. The film was box–office gold, with the best opening weekend of any Disney feature in India. Disney is hoping to appeal to India 's family–oriented middle–class consumers; core themes include "believe in yourself, express yourself, and celebrate your family." This section features highly in all of the parks, usually coming right after the entrance. Key services like Guest Relations are located in this section, inside the "City Hall" (HK Disney Source, 2014) . There are a number of elements of the Main Street USA exhibit, and these will be discussed along with the history of Main Street USA in this paper. In particular, how the different elements of Main Street USA work together are covered. The concept has proven to be ultimate, even across cultures, because of its magical portrayal of idealized American life, which draws heavily on Walt Disney's own childhood experiences. Main Street USA is a prominent street within the famous Disneyland Park and which was influenced by Walt Disney's hometown in Marceline Missouri. This Main Street is almost presented as a dollhouse. In the very beginning, Main Street USA was just made up of few attractions like the railroads and the Main Street vehicles hub, which added to the sense of realism in the park, making it seem more like a dynamic area full of progress and forward motion. Later on in the 1970s, the theme of Disney, and Disney the brand were added to the Main Street area, creating an overall 'Dineyfication' of it. This made Main Street into a type of multidimensional gift shop for the entire amusement park. Now days, it seems less like a charming town and more like a bustling and busy miniature city. ... The mission of the company is to provide superior entertainment experiences for the guests of all ages. Walt Disney Company opened the two theme parks in United State. Afterwards, they adopted the "international expansion strategy" which opened Disney in Tokyo and Paris. However, the outcomes of theme parks in Tokyo and Paris were very extreme. Tokyo Disney Resort was one of the most successful theme park in the world. On the Contrary, Disney Resort Paris was much less successful. The capacity limit of park which HKDL estimated was 30,000 visitors per day. On the first day of the operation, there were 29,000 guests entered the park. This caused the average waiting time for the attractions more than two hours. And the average queuing time of the restaurants was 45 minutes. Another major issue HKD faced when launching its theme park was not understanding the cultural landscape and its population. This was very noticeable when is received a rush of Mainland Chinese tourist during the Chinese New Year, which resulted in longer wait times for rides and food. As a result of this incident, the commissioner of the Hong Kong Consumer Council said, "Disney had failed to learn about the cultural traditions and consumption habits of Chinese people" (Craven & Piercy, 2013). International Joint Ventures Is The Second Circumstance... 3.0 Definition of IJVs International joint ventures is an overseas business owned and controlled by two or more partners; starting such a venture is often as an entry strategy (Deresky, H. 2014.p.377), while joint ventures refers to an independent entity jointly created and owned by two or more parent company. 4.0 Circumstances under which Multinational Enterprises (MNEs) internationalize using IJVs Risk sharing is one of the circumstance why MNEs form JV, it is commonly practiced in industries that require high capital and where the cost of developing a product is very high (Zhou and Li 2008). IJVs allows to gain rapid entry into a new industry and to benefit from synergies to develop a new product or technology (Dr. Ananthram. 2016). For example NEC–AT&T. Economies of scale is the second circumstance for MNEs using IJVs. Due to the enjoyment of economies of scale obtained by MNEs allows it to form a JV with a large company to compete at a global level where the pool their resources in order to reach a wider consumer base (Deresky, H. 2014.p.238). The third circumstance for MNEs using IJV is to gain access to a specific market, where regulations favour domestic companies for example China, Russia (EU) (Dr. Ananthram. 2016). In this case the MNEs do not have the understanding of carrying out business activities in another country, which may include the taste of consumer products or appropriate methods of distribution which in turn can prove to be expensive and time ... During Chinese New Year in Feb 2006, hundreds of people with valid 6–month ticket could not enter the park. It led to chaos and further eroded Hong Kong Disney's image. Generally this is due to poor capacity planning. Disney tried to boost attendance rate, but neglect its peak capacity. It should smooth demand relative to available park capacity. 4. The 5000 frontline "case members" had to wear heavy costumes and worked long shifts of 11 to 13 hours per day under a chaotic shift system. Yet they had to accept the unfair salary calculation compare to that of US Disney parks. The management should reconsider frontline staff welfare and try to boost staff morale. Disney had global recognition and an association with fun and family, but senior managers and strategists now understood that they need to truly understand the cultures of their host nations. They see that consumer always attract with their culture oriented place. Because in case study we see that in most of the Disneyland they try to focus as per the area or their cultural values. So for that they apply different strategies for increasing their business in non–american markets of the disney. For example In early stage of Disney opening in Paris, we find that Disney was accused of ignoring French culture and criticised for exporting American imperialism in its European venture. The issues regarding language, alcohol consumption and pricing of tickets and merchandise damaged the Disney brand. From the above negative things they do some measure changes. First, the name euro Disney was changed to a more nationalistic Paris Disneyland, so that the French would be more receptive to it. They implement some strategies like, Focus on hiring an outgoing and friendly Disney cast Increased training The placement of additional Disney characters throughout the park. A fantasy world involving kings and queens; knights and courtly love. Sleeping Beauty's castle resembles a late 14th, early 15th century castle, Pierrefonds. Pierrefonds is located in Northern France, near the city of Compiegne. Pierrefonds was one of a group of castles constructed by the Compte de Valois to form a vast military area threatening Paris. It replaced an older citadel which had fallen through years of war. This new castle did not last long either before it began to crumble. It suffered through various battles, such as the Hundred years war, in which the English and French fought over this castle, and it's domain, as well as over many others. By the time Napoleon had acquired power, the castle was in ruins. It was his nephew, Napoleon III, who took on the task of restoring the castle. He hired the famous architect, Viollet–le–Doc, the same architect who headed the reconstruction of the Notre Dame, to rebuild the castle. Pierrefonds was much altered in Viollet's restoration; however its general external appearance is a faithful representation of what once existed. The Pierrefonds castle is typical of a medieval gothic castle because it functioned as a protective fortress as well as an elaborate residence. The castle formed an enclosed fortified stronghold from which aristocrats could rule their domain, and govern over the local town. Although ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although, culturally this dish is a Chinese staple HKD faced severe backlash from environmentalists worldwide including Hong Kong. The reason for conducting their program was because of protests and worldwide criticism from environmental groups. Disney's program was reactive because the addition of shark fin soup in their Chinese wedding reception banquet was an attempt to incorporate a cultural mainstay which obviously rebounded resulting in their reacting to criticism instead of anticipating it. It's unclear from the case study whether HKD researched this topic before it became an issue but it is evident they did research this topic during the campaign consisting of secondary research that was regurgitated as part of their program. In the end, I realized that there is more to a chilly city with Disneyland. Inching my way towards the city lights, I left the Philippines for a new world half expecting 9 out of 8 civilians dressed like runway models and a really good theme park. I got all that and more as I have seen a woman dressed like a supermodel casually strolling down the streets and a lesson I never thought I would learn on vacation. Though the time I've spent on earth has been too limited to jump to conclusions, I'm quite certain that Hong Kong is a city that I'll lovingly recall even as I end my journey. I will look forward to another time where I can visit this urban jungle, until then, I can only hope that others would agree with my presumptions. Otherwise, you may see for yourself what exactly I am talking about. I'm starting to here this incessant chattering in my head. • 61. Disneyland Motivation Statement The reason why I am interested in developing a career with Hong Kong Disneyland is that Disneyland is one of the famous theme park in the world. I believe working in Disneyland can broaden my horizon and expand my social network. Most importantly, Hong Kong Disneyland has the passion to become the best theme park. As a newspaper reports, Hong Kong Disneyland will launch an expansion plan, including building new theme areas and new amusement facilities for Marvel Super heroes. With this new theme areas and new amusement facilities, I believe Hong Kong Disneyland will obtain great support in Chinese market. Also, I think Hong Kong Disneyland will become more attractive and famous in the future since the Disneyland company has owned the 21st century fox. By owning the 21st century fox, Disneyland company has the copyright of many new characters, which makes Hong Kong Disneyland able to build more theme areas, such as deadpool's theme area, alien's theme area, or x–men's theme area. With the copyright of the new characters, I believe Hong Kong Disneyland has a broad development space in the future. Therefore, I want to join Hong Kong Disneyland. So, in order to reach a balance between Disney tradition and European culture, they made a number of changes to retain Disney's image while adapting their culture. First, the name Euro Disney was changed to a more nationalistic Paris Disneyland, so that the French would be friendlier to it. Strategies to retain Disney's image as following:– Focusing on hiring an outgoing and friendly Disney cast; Increased training; The placement of additional Disney characters throughout the park. Burke's strategies to adapt Disney to the French culture included: Removing the ban on alcohol in the theme park; Lowering the corporate Disney premium on admission, merchandise, hotels and food; Relaxing Disney's hierarchical management structure; Cutting managerial staff by almost 1000 in order to flatten ... Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams and the hard facts that have created America...with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world. – Walt Disney, founder of Disneyland, 19552 Disneyland was more than entertainment. It was about creating a fantasy world as an escape–a holiday away from the strain of the bustling world. The business model of Disneyland thrived upon the concept of a Disney resort with attractions, restaurants, merchandise shops and hotels. A visit to Disneyland was touted as a vacation trip spanning several days. Excluding hotels, income from admission fees constituted around 49% of the park's income, while the remaining 51% came from merchandise sales and restaurants.3 Most of Disneyland's attractions had a rigid limit on the number of visitors that could be accommodated at a particular time. To enjoy popular rides, a waiting time of one to two hours was normal. In general, visitors were fairly patient and accepted waiting as part of the experience. In the past few decades, American parents that had grown up with Disney characters kept returning to the park with their children, relishing their childhood memories. Chase has had maximum flexibility with the desires of Disney. Chase has probably allowed terms that other banks would not have been so easy to accept, which might be because of the strong relationship between the bank and Disney. The only clause that might concern Disney is the "Market flex provision". However, given how flexible Chase is being with most of the terms, it is only reasonable that they protect themselves from some of the risks involving the Hong Kong Dollar fluctuations. It is as Chandiramani, of the Chase deal team, argued: "Things can change between the time you sign a deal and the time you try close it". On the other hand, from Chase's point of view, they should not alter any more of the covenants of the commitment letter. Historically, the film, music and theme park powerhouse encompassed by the Disney Corporation has enjoyed massive success in exporting its brand, identity and products internationally. And on a domestic scale, Disney's theme parks and resorts have achieved a level of success fully unparalleled in the tourism amusement industry. However, success on a similar scale remains quite elusive where the international theme park industry is concerned. Just as Disney has struggled to gain a foothold with its Paris–based theme park, so too has its Hong Kong destination manifested more challenges than victories. As an article by Schuman (2006) reports, the theme park has earned overwhelmingly negative feedback from its first score of visitors, most of whom found an underwhelming offering of rides, a lackluster array of attractions and a surprisingly modestly sized park. According to Schuman, Disney's developers strangely underestimated both attendance numbers and visitor expectations. Schuman reports at the time of its opening that "Hong Kong Disneyland has a mere 16 attractions–only one a classic Disney thrill ride, Space Mountain compared to 52 at Disneyland Resort Paris.
