Throughout my years in my white neighborhood I grew up as an equal among my classmates. My
peers had never teased me; in fact, the incident with those older boys was the only act of prejudice I
have ever experienced. Classmates were very tolerant, and so was I. Forced by circumstance, I
accepted living among all white people and they with me. They became familiar with the only Asian
girl in the school, and the racial issue disappeared. I had friends and my ethnic background was not
a problem. They saw my personality and saw me. I was an American.
In tenth grade my AP European History teacher asked me a question that made me realize that
people saw me as American. With China threatening Taiwan and its quest for independence, the
United States government was questioning its own involvement in the issue. My teacher asked me,
"If we went to war with China, which side would you be on?"
"The side I felt was right," I responded without question. "No, you would side with America,
because you are an American," he curtly stated. "I am American, but I am also Chinese," I muttered

Someone who is African is most likely to be African or African American. This is the relationship
between race and birthplace. Another mistake for racial segregation is that some believe some races
are superior to others. No race is superior, every race is different, but must be equally respected. The
only difference between each race is its heritage, culture, religion, and appearance. Religion may be
considered a major difference, but even some people in the same race can choose a different
religion. Some people take their race's culture really serious, but religious is also varied as well.

Racial Differences In The Millennial Generation
By being surrounded by various races for as long as I remember, it was just natural to adapt to the
situation. I feel that as a generation we are not uncomfortable when we are the only one who is a
different race in a situation. While I was brainstorming where I was going to go for this project, I
was conflicted. I did not understand why being a minority somewhere would make someone
uncomfortable. In today's world, there are examples of all races at the top and at the bottom. That
even though there are racial issues still, the protestors are filled with diversity. As a generation, we
are ones to come together through our views and opinions, rather than our race or ethnic
background. Beforehand, if it was split, it was because of racism. But now that there are examples

millennials have the ability to "assimilate, advocate and accept" different races and make the

Based on a generalization on a race and the social outcome of such race one can determine
stereotype would form. This leads to people, educated people, to conduct research of their own and
come up with their own conclusion on racial difference. The Bell Curve, published in 1994 was
written by Richard J. Herrnstein and Charles Murray. This book's purpose was to highlight the
statistical differences between races in terms of intelligence quota. A bell curve is essentially a
method of organizing data, usually grades because of the numerical values, the actual "curve" is a
visual representation of the data shown on a graph. This curve shows the raised mass in the middle

1. How and when did you became aware of racial difference, what was the context of that
realization, ang what transitions you have gone through since your early recognition of racial
differences.
Most part of my life was spend in Cameroon ( Africa). Racial differences was never an issues. We
never talk about race differences, but tribal differences. While some tribes claim to be the dominant
tribe others feel they are being marginalized due systemic corruption. For instance the government
influential persons like, the Governors, minister, divisional officers etc. would employed and pass
out opportunities only to people from their tribes. If by chance or some reason one happens to be
employed in that department, one is likely to experience the tribal differences.
However, as an African, at the age of 12, we learned about slave trades; Particularly which tribe was
responsible for capturing other tribe members, what techniques they used, how they were
categorized, how much they were worth but interestingly, how they were transported and treated at
their destination. Although there was relieved to know that, slave trade has been abolished but the
incident still stigmatized us and elevated our anger towards the betraying tribes. Before coming to
America, I know that African–American are called "niggers", a racial slur used derogatorily towards
people of color.
Learning about slave trade at the age 12, was when I became aware of racial differences, Although it
has been difficult to grasp the understanding or to put into perspective how "white people" the slave

In my opinion, I definitely think there is a racial difference when it comes to athletic ability. For the
most part, something that we can all agree on, is that we can see the racial differences in sports
especially when it comes to basketball. When trying to find individuals who are good at playing
basketball, most likely the team will consist of a majority of individuals who comes from an African
descent. The question however is, why is this the case? I believe that there are two theories to
explain this concept.
The first theory that I feel like might be the answer is because, it is something that they have grown

like it is something that they have to do as well. If we view this situation in the eyes of a child who
is African American, when he or she sees that there is a famous man from an African descent who is
the best player within the entire basketball team, the child now believes that those who are black are
better at playing basketball, which encourages the child to follow the footsteps of those who belongs
in their race. However, if the same child watches a soccer match, the child sees that there isn't

According to the National Center for Access to Justice (2015), a network of pro bono legal service
providers representing the poor has arisen to address the need of justice gap, but more than half of
those who seek help are turned away, as a result of unavailable adequate public funds and private
donations. By reducing the pro bono law firms, legislators indirectly thrust the poor into lack access
of finding qualified attorneys to represent themselves in bureaucratic proceedings. Rhode (2005)
suggests that in order to maintain the fairness of American justice, we need to press reforms in
political institutions, which has "deep ideological and structural roots" (p. 126). Those reforms

Imagine that you are going on a plane to some far exotic country. You get to the airport, but you
notice people staring at you and give you disgusted looks and even looks of fear, almost like you're a
monster. You are going through security you look to the left of you and you see a curtained box,
suddenly you get nervous. You know what happens in those boxes what if they pull you out of the
line and make you go in there. There is no one to help you, there is no one to help you stop them if
they do. You are completely helpless. This is what it felt like going to the airport when I was 12.

the same result without discriminating against an entire group of people. Iron triangles are meant to
help the public effectively communicate and participate more in their government but the drawback
of this method is that sometimes the iron triangle will begin to only care about its components and

I became aware of my racial difference at a very young age. I do not remember this but my parents
told me that I only wanted black baby dolls when I was old enough to start talking and asking for
things. I do remember wishing to be the black Barbie doll. I would throw pennies into wishing wells
and make wishes on shooting stars that I would wake up as the black Barbie. It was then that I
realized the difference of my white skin in comparison to my idol that had dark skin. I also went
through a stage before school started where I was obsessed with Asian culture. I only wore kimonos,
wore eyeliner, slept on a futon, pretended to know Chinese and had my whole room decorated in
Asian décor. My uncle told me before I learned to actually speak English and I was babbling that I
would sound like I was speaking in Chinese and that we would sit and have Chinese conversations.
My mom was teaching at a title one elementary school and enrolled me in the head start next door.
The majority of the children that were enrolled were Hispanic. I went from head start to fifth grade
with mostly Hispanic friends and culture and I loved it. The town I went to school in had three
elementary schools and one middle school and one high school. When I started middle school I was
separated from many of my Hispanic friends because they were in English as a second language
classes and I was thrown into a classroom with mostly Caucasian children that I did not grow up
with, it was like changing schools.

It does not take much for someone to realize that in today's society, there are still inequalities in our
country. America may be a hundred and fifty years past the civil war when white and black racial
lines were erased, but they are more present today than in recent years. The recurrence of these
racial lines has been caused by the economic gap, violence on the streets, and miscommunication of
facts.
The economic gap has been growing drastically between racial and ethnic backgrounds. According
to a study by the Pew Research Center this wealth gap has been growing since the Great Recession.
In their study, they found that white individuals had thirteen times greater net worth and when
looking at white to Hispanic, white individuals had ten times greater net worth. White individuals in
the study had a median net worth in 2013 $141,900. Black individuals had a median net worth of
$11,000. Hispanics have a median net worth of $13,700 (Fry and Kochhar). Racism is not just
centered on the amount of money each individual has but the effects of not having enough to
provide the necessities and what it can do to an individual in need. When children are starving and
the mother is not able to provide for them something clicks and all morality is out the window. The
mother does not have a choice but to break the law in any manner to get ahead because she is placed
on such an uneven playing field.

Introduction Statistics is important in understanding the information and communicating findings to
one another (Healey, 2015). I never paid much attention to statistics before because math has always
been my least favorite subject. I was very hesitant in taking this course but many people assured me
that I could succeed and that statistics is far more interesting than any mathematical course I will
ever take. Statistics is so relevant; the more I am noticing it because of knowledge I have obtained
from this course. For example, the article I will be discussing defines the differences of gender and
race within advertising (Plous & Neptune, 1997). Statistics can be used to analyze the amount of
advertisements printed, the different gender and race of models, the year and percentage amount of
gender and race bias occurs, the percentages of the exposure different gender and race models etc. I
can't say that I completely understand statistics but I very much enjoyed this course and when I read
statistical information, I at least can analyze the information given rather than just passing off
random numbers. We often need a strong proof and thoughtfully analyzed data to build and enhance
our theory and understanding of something, which is what statistics provides to make sense of the
data (Healey, 2015).

The similarity between Mohanty and Liederman is that they both talk about the underrepresented
