2. PHMB is a polymer used as a
disinfectant and antiseptic.
In dermatological use, it is
spelled polihexanide ( INN)
and sold under names such
as Lavasept, Serasept,
Prontosan and Omnicide.
PHMB is also known as:
Polyhexamethylene biguanide hydrochloride
Polyhexamethylene guanide
Polymeric biguanide hydrochloride
Polyhexanide

4. Preparation method of polyhexamethylene biguanidine and its salt
The method consist of: adding 1, 6-hexane diguanidine
and a catalyst into a reaction vessel, under the protection
of nitrogen, carrying out reaction at 80-200DEG C for 2-
24h, and then conducting cooling and discharging, thus
obtaining polyhexamethylene biguanidine, and
neutralizing the acid aqueous solution of
polyhexamethylene biguanidine to a pH value of 5-9, and
performing filtering so as to obtain a polyhexamethylene
biguanidine salt.

6. Polyhexamethylene biguanide
hydrochloride (Polyhexanide,
PHMB) is a chemical biocide and a
member of the polymeric
guanidine family is used as a
disinfectant and antiseptic and
general disinfecting agents in the
food industry and, very
successfully, for the disinfection of
swimming pools.
