PHMB - Polyhexamethylene Biguanide

Polyhexamethylene biguanide, or PHMB, is a polymer used as a disinfectant and antiseptic. It is commonly known by several names and is used in dermatological applications as well as a general disinfectant in industries like food and swimming pools. PHMB is prepared through a reaction of 1,6-hexanediguanidine and a catalyst at elevated temperatures. It is a chemical biocide belonging to the polymeric guanidine family.
