NHS Advertising Review
1. NHS ADVERTISING REVIEW & REFLECTION
For my NHS Project, I and my group had to create an advert to be played
at Salford Royal Hospital. Our brief was ‘Infection Control’. We had to
remind patients and visitors the rules for keeping infections out of the
hospital.
STRENTHS & WEAKNESSES
I think we had a lot of strengths, with a few weaknesses too.
STRENGTHS
- We showed initiative by arranging with the hospital that we would be
filming there. Showing up on time and generally staying out of the way.
- We fit the time allowance well. We were allowed between 90 and 120
seconds. Our finished project had a run time of 95 seconds.
- Considering the members of our group didn’t know each other very well
before the project, we did a good job of communicating and doing our
work with no bother.
- We filmed the shots quite well, as well as doing many other shots for
back up. Such as different angles, where we placed the camera, how
zoomed in the shot was, etc. As well as that, we filmed lots of other shots
too and not necessarily every shot went into the final project. By shooting
several shots, we had the freedom to decide what we wanted and what
we didn’t.
WEAKNESSES
- Some of the scenes that we shot could have been better. There was the
odd time where the camera was shaking a little bit so we had to cut down
its size or delete it from the project all together.
2. - All in all, although our advert was well directed, produced and edited, it
isn’t all that exciting. It’s not like an ‘Infection Control’ advert is supposed
to have the audience on the edge of their seat or anything, but it is
supposed to provide a welcome distraction to all the people sat bored in
the waiting rooms. We possibly could have done something to keep the
people watching it in its entirety – which I don’t think will happen with
our advert.
ISSUES IN WORKING WITH MY GROUP
I can’t lie, at the beginning of our project when we were put into our
groups; I wasn’t looking forward to it. It was with 2 other people that I
had never really spoken to and I felt like the whole experience would
have been an awkward one.
It was actually okay though. We did our best to communicate with one
another and did a great job with our work.
In the end, it was probably better that I was put into a group with people
I don’t know because if I was with people I do know the temptation to
talk and mess about would have harmed my work.
ISSUES WITH FILMING
Like I mentioned earlier, there was a few occasions where our scenes
were almost ruined because of the way they were shot. There were a few
shakes and wobbles on some of the scenes but thankfully our cameraman
did a very good job on the majority of the scenes so our advert came out
okay.
We also did a good job of setting everything up. Considering we haven’t
used these many times, we booked it out, carried it all the way to the
hospital, set it up, recorded our scenes to a very good standard for the
majority of the project and then put everything back too.
I am happy to say that there weren’t really any issues with filming.
3. WHAT WOULD YOU DO DIFFERENTLY NEXT TIME?
It is going back to the camera work again. If shot a little bit better, our
final project would have been much better than it was. We wouldn’t have
had to make as many cuts as we did and that would have been nice.
Although we filmed a lot of shots, we could have filmed more which could
have added to the storyline and made the advert better. We had created
quite a good story for the advert, but the finished thing doesn’t really tell
much of a story in all honesty.
DID IT MEET THE CLIENTS REQUIREMENTS?
Yes, I think it did. We have included the 3 important messages that were
asked to be included (in text form and in the scenes we shot). We fit the
required time. And considering it was our first ever project, we did a good
job and I think it wouldn’t look out of place on the big screens on the
hospital wall.
All in all I am happy with our work and look forward to doing something
similar in the future.
