1. Who would be the audience for your
media product?
2. We created the opening to a film that is a
hybrid of both the Thriller genre and the
Psychological genre: A Psychological Thriller.
3. The audience that our film would be aimed at would
be a mass teenage audience. I would aim at a mass
audience because this obviously allows our film to
create more income/profit and reach a larger audience.
If it was aimed at a mass audience we would easily be
able to gain a larger fan base, where as if we were
aiming at a niche audience we would have to try and
secure a smaller cult following and therefore we would
make much less money than we would with a mass
audience.
4. We selected a young adult target audience
because we felt that this was an easy one to aim
our film at. Young adults typically go to the
cinema more than the elderly and children and
therefore we can achieve a mass audience more
easily. Also, we felt that our target audience fit
in with the genre of our movie because thrillers
often appeal to younger adults.
5. I feel that our film will appeal to young
adults, particularly ones that are still at school
or have just left school because they could
possibly find it relatable as it is set in a school.
They would find it relatable because it‟s in a
setting that is familiar to them and watching
the film may make them imagine that this
could be an alternate life for them. The
gratification theory supports this idea as it says
that people try to relate films to themselves.
6. We looked at a lot of different thrillers with different
target audiences. Although, the thrillers that had a
young adult target audience were the ones that
appealed to us.
We drew ideas from Hitchcock‟s classic „Psycho‟ such
as the titles and the positioning of them. For
example, “Team Media Presents” was a title next to our
main character in the opening of our thriller. This is
similar to many Hitchcock films because it often says
“Hitchcock presents” next to the main character.
We thought that because Hitchcock aimed at adult
audiences we would to. However, we wanted an adult
audience nearer to our age and therefore we went for a
young adult target audience.
