2. Usage
Corresponds best to English:
“I had done something” - implied is further back in the past than another
action
e.g. Llegue al aeropuerto tarde, porque habia olvidado mi reloj
I arrived at the airport late, because I had forgotten my watch
Note – In the above, “I had forgotten” is pluperfect, because the action has
come before the “arrived”, which is Preterite. To properly show that one
action came before the other, the older action takes the Pluperfect Tense.
3. Formation
Use the IMPERFECT form of haber + past
participle of the verb!
Past participle for ar verbs: -ado
Past participle for er/ir verbs: - ido
había hablado habíamos viajado
habías comido habíais trabajado
había vivido habían salido
4. Irregulars
Bad news: More than 3.
Good news: If you already know the Perfect,
then you know all the Plupefect irregulars as
they use the same past participle. So
practice drilling. Now!
