2. What is DHIS2
• DHIS2- District Health Information System, version 2
• Developed by University of Oslo
• A software tool for collection, validation, analysis, and
presentation of aggregate and patient-based statistical data
• Open source software released under the BSD license
2
3. Key features of DHIS2
• Comprehensive data management solution: can capture
community & health facility data either be in the form of
standard lists or tables, or can be customized to replicate
paper forms and data warehousing.
• A modular structure which can easily be customized to the
different requirements of a management information system
• Easy to use - one-click reports with charts and tables for
selected indicators or summary reports
• A user-specific dashboard for quick access to the relevant
monitoring and evaluation tools including indicator charts and
links to favorite reports, maps and other key resources in the
system.

4. Key features of DHIS2…
• Different kinds of tools for data validation and
improvement of data quality
• Functionality to design and modify calculated indicator
formulas.
• User access management module for passwords,
security, and fine-grained access control (user roles).
• Interoperable health information architecture -
integrated as per user needs, either as part of the DHIS2
portal user interface or a more loosely-coupled external
application interacting through the DHIS2 Web-API.
5. Three dimensions of DHIS2
Three dimensions of DHIS 2 that describe data
• Where, related to the organization unit
• When, related to period of report
• What, related to data element which is collected

BSD licenses are a family of permissive free software licenses, imposing minimal restrictions on the use and distribution of covered software. This is in contrast to copyleft licenses, which have share-alike requirements. The original BSD license was used for its namesake, the Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD), a Unix-like operating system
