being an effective means of communication, if one knows how to use it properly. "Ethical and social
factors need to be considered when communicating to the public, through social media" (Bergal).
Elected leaders should not be afraid to speak their minds, but they should really think before they
post. They should not post if the post would cause harm to or insult a certain group of people.
Whatever they post in social media should almost resemble what is written in their "official"
government pages. I conducted a study on Donald Trump and Mike Pence's social media pages,
from October 12 to October 25, 2017 (14 days), to see if they use their social media effectively or
not, and the analysis and discussion of this study is presented in this paper.
Donald Trump posted mainly on economy, healthcare, the media. He talked about needing a tax
reform (economy), as seen in his October 18th post that said "'Americans need #TaxReform'"
(Trump). He also talked about ending Obamacare and replacing it with a healthcare system that is

As a child, I relished in the days I spent playing outdoors. Whether it was digging in the dirt,
collecting rocks, or catching frogs; the great outdoors was where I felt I could escape the monotony
of everyday life. I recall spending my recesses digging into the side of a shallow dirt hill. With only
a stick for a chisel, I would uncover the secrets the earth contained: fossils, precious gems, or
forgotten artifacts. I later enjoyed learning about all the various types of rocks and minerals in my
science classes. I wanted to learn about their origins, what they were composed of, and why some
were more valuable than others. I, in fact, was very good at identifying them, and I took this

On September 18, 2017, I had the pleasure of attending my first city council meeting in the city of
Durham, North Carolina. Located in downtown Durham, the meeting took place at City Hall inside
the council chambers on the first floor. The meeting began at 7:00 pm and lasted for approximately
2 hours. Although it was open to the public, not too many people attended the meeting. Including
myself, no more than 10 people were accounted for at the meeting. As far as the board members and
official council staff, there were about 20 people. The overall setting resembled a courtroom. The
council officials (staff) sat in the front of the room behind this wide panel table. The other half of the
staff behind a panel table as well, located on the right side of the room. The seats that were available
to the public were directly in the middle of the room facing the city council officials and the big TVs

Most people assume that english is the official language of the United States, however this is not the
case, as there is no official language in the states. Since the origins of the country, english has
consistently been spoken across the land, however it has never been established as the official
language. America is a melting pot of cultures and the same can be said for it's languages. Citizens
in America speak an array of languages including Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic, Gujrati, Urdu and
hundreds more. However, with the amount of languages spoken in America, an official language is
the glue needed to connect citizens The increase in languages spoken in America, is directly
proportional to the increase in Immigration. America has been built on the back of these immigrants,
but because they come from different backgrounds they need to define what it means to be
American. Establishing english as the official language gives all citizens common ground,
developing english into not only a language, but an important aspect of being, "American." Several
states have already established english as their official language, and they have seen an increased
involvement of their immigrants in not only their societies, but their economies. Establishing english
as the official language across the United States reaps several financial and social benefits, and is a
