Gay Marriage Equality
Should Marriage Equality be Welcomed or Frowned Upon? Should this nation have the right to deny a citizen equality? Overall, the answer should
be no. Surprisingly enough, the majority of our nation says there should not be marriage equality because it is unethical. The topic of marriage
equality has been around for almost fifty years and it does not seem to be going away anytime soon as it is still a very prominent discussion in our
society. The very first time a couple of the same sex applied for a marriage license was in December of 1970. The couples' names were Richard John
'Jack' Baker and James Michael McConnell. They were denied marriage whenever they came forward to be married. As a result, they tried to sue the
County District clerk, however the supreme court sided by the clerk (Gay Marriage Timeline History of the Same–Sex Marriage Debate). Less than
three years later Maryland became the first state to officially make same sex marriage illegal and many other states soon followed in their
footsteps. What made them prohibit same sex in the first place and did they have a valid reason in doing so? There are very strong arguments for
both sides of this topic, nevertheless that does not deny that this is a right and it is wrong to restrict it. If this is not a given right then why would a
county court judge speak out? In Florida, a country court judge stood up against the gay marriage ban. She voiced her opinion about how the ban on
same sex marriage only hurts, discriminates, and prevents all of the people affected by the ban from participating in a cultural experience of our
country (Should Gay Marriage be Legal?). By preventing them from being like everyone else in the country, they are being counted as inferior. People
commonly make negative judgments and critics against people who just want to find love. Gay couples are constantly being shot down just because
they want to express themselves. How is this fair? Google sent out their own statement about gay marriage saying that "we should not eliminate
anyone's fundamental rights, whatever their sexuality, to marry the person they love" (''Why Should We Care about Marriage Equality?'': Political
Advocacy as a Part of Corporate Responsibility). On top

Historical Overview of Homosexuality
Abstract Progression of Homosexuality: Evolution of a phenomenon over time Some authors believe that homosexuality is not a kind of conduct, as
commonly supposed, but a psychological condition (Woggon, 1981). Thus, it is important to understand that the genuine homosexual condition or
inversion, as it is often termed. This condition is something for which the subject is in no way responsible. Some literature suggests that homosexuality
in itself it is morally neutral. Like the condition of heterosexuality, however, it tends to find expression in specific sexual acts; and such acts are subject
to moral judgment (McNeill, 1966). A major premise established in contemporary literature is the concept thatsexual orientation ranges ... Show more

It is the way a portion of the population expresses human love and sexuality" From the premises established in this section, a holistic illustration of
world–views regarding homosexuality, can be detailed. World Views of Homosexuality Secular As discussed previously, the first half (and a little
beyond) of the 20th century spawned varying views of homosexuality (constitutional, developmental and genetic were the main ones). However, the
worldviews resulting from such were congruent in the main. This is primarily because of the fact that these theories were aiming to explain the
occurrence of a class of aberration/disorder. Consequently, claims, such as homosexuality being classified as a serious psychiatric and social problem
(Bieber, 1969), were commonplace in academic literature and reverberated in the wider society. The passage of time into the final quarter of the last
century, realized a progressively softer position regarding homosexuality, by both from the academic and wider community. This softening can be
observed as being simultaneous with stances adopted by the APA. After the organization's actions in 1973 and 1975 concerning acceptance of
homosexuality, the literature had been littered with expressions of the wide variability in the social acceptance of homosexual activity (Greenberg &
Bystryn, 1982). Christian The ELCA encourages its congregations to

Nietzsche Madman Allegory In The Gay Science
An Analysis of Nietzsche's Madman Allegory in The Gay Science Nietzsche's madman allegory represents the current moral situation of society during
his time––a growing belief that God does not exist, a movement away from religious values. Nietzsche does not mean literally that God has been
murdered, but because mankind created God, we also have the ability to kill God. In Nietzsche's point of view, mankind created God by also
creating a belief in God. By saying that mankind 'murdered' God, Nietzsche is proposing that we no longer believe in Him. With the grounding that
religion provided in the past, Nietzsche fears that mankind will be left without purpose and virtues to lead them to do the correct thing. The 'light,' in
Nietzsche's allegory is belief in God; for this paper, light is a focus because of the implications that follow when there is none. With no light,
everything previously known about moral beliefs and the world is overturned. Nietzsche proposes that instead of God guiding people (because people
no longer believe in Him), people can follow their own virtues, such as courage, faith in oneself, and patience for the future. Nietzsche sets the scene for
the current moral situation of society in the beginning of his allegory: the madman "in the bright morning lit a lantern and ran around the marketplace
crying incessantly, "I'm looking for God!" (В§125). The madman is distressed because many fundamental beliefs of Christianity––the belief in God and

1. Gender – Science IAT 2. I chose this test because I was interested in seeing what I thought about male/female roles. 3. My level of result was

there were a lot more males in my classes than females and this lead me to believe that more men were interested in these subjects than men. Print

The Gay Science : A Modern Critique Of Science
The Gay Science: A Modern Critique of Science Bertrand Russell wrote about Nietzsche in A History of Western Philosophy, "He invented no new
technical theories in ontology or epistemology; his importance is primarily in ethics, and secondarily as an acute historical critic." (Russell 760) If
The Gay Science is read as a true prescription for how science should be done, the majority of Nietzsche's sections seem unrelated; there is no clear
way too see how these sections speak to what is commonly understood as science. However, there exist a fair number of sections in this book that
seem to speak directly on the common understanding of science about how it should be conducted, including the many missteps it has taken leading
up to the writing of The Gay Science. When reading these sections closely, Nietzsche's writing reflects many strikingly modern understandings of
science. Many of these modern understandings and philosophies of science inferred from the text are from very different points in time and represent
distinct philosophies of science, but they all have an underlying theme of positivism, subjectivism, and social constructivism. In certain sections The
Gay Science should be read as a serious critique of scientific practice; a critique that should be taken seriously, even among modern sociologists and
philosophers of science. If The Gay Science is to be read in this way, contrary to Bertrand Russell's opinion, Nietzsche has much to say about the
ontological import of

The Debate over Gay Parenting Essay
Over the last several decades, gay rights have been a growing topic in the public and in the court rooms. Recently, the debate about gays having the
right or ability to parent has become a hot topic, due to the expanding gay community. There are typically two stances taken on the topic of gay
parenting: it's wrong and should be illegal or it's normal and should be legal. While the norms, stereotypes and debates about gay parenting have varied
over the years, today there seems to be a positive consensus when it comes to the beliefs about children being raised by homosexuals.
Although today most psychologists agree that parents' sexual orientation does not affect the well–being of a child, less than 40 years ago, doctors
considered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These negative stereotypes lead to a society basing values off of heterosexual norms. There are also some popular beliefs and fears of the effects of
gay parents on their children, "in particular its effects on the development of 'normal' sexual and gender identities" (Clarke). Arguers claim that
children raised by gay parents are more likely to have psychological issues, be sexually promiscuous, and even turn out gay themselves(Patterson).
Besides claiming to be looking out for the best interests of children, anti–gay activists frequently express the threat that gay parents pose to American's
values, because allowing gays to raise children ignores the heterosexual norms of society and re–defines the customary family. These arguments "reveal
the powerful cultural link between sexual orientation and the family and its slow and arduous shift" (Rivers).
In stark contrast to the commonly held beliefs and scientific studies of several decades ago, today the overwhelmingly popular norms, beliefs and
debates are for gay parenting. Studies have consistently found that a parent's sexual orientation has no adverse effects on their children. Besides
finding no differences mentally or socially, researchers actually found kids of gay parents are more tolerant of differences and have the advantage of
being open–minded (Pappas)The well–being of a

Analysis of Friedrich NietzscheВґs Book 5 of The Gay...
Friedrich Nietzsche's own skepticism symbolized the secular changes in contemporary Western civilization, in which he details mankind's break away
from faith into a new rule of chaos. In Book 5 of The Gay Science, Nietzsche establishes that "God is dead", meaning that modern Europe has
abandoned religion in favor of rationality and science (Nietzsche 279). From this death, the birth of a 'new' infinite blossoms in which the world is
open to an unlimited amount of interpretations that do not rely on the solid foundations of faith in religion or science. However, in contrast to the other
philosophers of his age such as Immanuel Kant and Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Nietzsche deviates from the omniscient determinism of history
towards a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite such claims, Nietzsche criticizes this mistaken idea that the knowledge of the universe can be comprehended by any method; he argues that not
even the "most scrupulously conscientious analysis and self–examination of the intellect" cannot successfully interpret the progressive history of the
world as "the human intellect cannot avoid seeing itself in [only] its perspectives" (Nietzsche 336). To Nietzsche, Kant and Hegel's attempts to find
truth in history is faulty because faith is just now found in science and reasoning rather than religion. What Kant and Hegel fail to realize is that the
human race's separation from this faith gave rise to "our new 'infinite'", in which "the world has become 'infinite' for [humanity] all over again,
inasmuch as we cannot reject the possibility that it may include infinite interpretations" (Nietzsche 336). Thus the new infinite is self–consciously
made by the individual members of humanity itself, as we can now independently interpret the world ourselves as we see fit. Nietzsche declares that
even if some of these interpretations may include "too much devilry, stupidity and foolishness", it does not matter because it does not rely on faith
(Nietzsche 336). The new infinite that arises is ours, in which the abundance of perspectives is too overwhelming for any scholar to give meaning to
such chaos. There is no logical reason how such disorder should

##ethical Analysis Of 'God Is Dead' By Friedrich Nietzsche
I was really confused when I first stumbled across reading this quote. I didn't really understand what Nietzsche was saying from the phrase "God is
dead''. After talking with my classmates and doing some research I got a better understanding about the quote. Most people didn't understand it like
me at first and they thought Nietzsche interpreted in a literal death or end of God. I think Nietzsche says this quote because he was an atheist and he
had a different perspective about God which he never even believed in. Most people believe that God is all knowing and powerful so he or she can't
die. The understanding I got from this quote is that I think Nietzsche is trying to say that is not relevant to people anymore meaning that people don't
care. Friedrich Nietzsche is a well known philosopher who influenced many topics in the world and was not really a fan of religion.
This quote is widely known by everyone and it is first shown in his 1882 collection "The Gay Science''. The phrase "God is dead. God remains
dead. And we have killed him" can have many meanings to different people. I interpreted this phrase by thinking that people don't care about and no
more have a use for God. In a sense Nietzsche is saying that large and consistent moral theories could exist without reference to God. For example,
Europe no longer needed God as the source for all morality, value, or order in the universe. By that I mean philosophy and science was capable of
doing that for us. As the

The House Of The Scorpion: An Analysis
In the excerpt "On the Doctrine of the Feeling of Power", it reads, "An easy prey is something contemptible for proud natures; they take delight
only at the sight of unbroken persons who could become their enemies". I do not agree with Nietzsche's ideas on power, for his philosophy seems to be
"keep your friends close and your enemies closer". My ideas on power are more so like El Patron's ideas from The House of the Scorpion. In the book,
The House of the Scorpion, El Patron's ideas on power are as follows, "Get rid of your enemies when you can." These two quotes are distinctly
different. Personally, I agree more with El Patron's take on power, for due to personal experiences, my thoughts are that ones who seek power do not

Some examples of Nietzsche's philosophy found today are the elections. Candidates running for office are seeking power. Power is obtained from
others, and the candidates are attempting to receive power from voters. Nietzsche writes, "We hurt those to whom we need to make our power
perceptible... We benefit and show benevolence toward those who already depend on us in some way. The candidates who are running, "attack" the
other candidates in order to show that they are above or better then them, and they show compassion towards voters to show "this is how great of a
person I am". Another example found in today's society is companies and their advertisements. In advertisements, once again comparing present–day to
Nietzsche's philosophy, the different companies think of each other as competition, and therefore criticize one another's faults to make the consumer
see why they should choose them. An example of Nietzsche's philosophy found in The House of the Scorpion is how Tom was so focused on
Matt's faults. Tom would reveal much of Matt's flaws and imperfections to Maria, so that he would seem like the "better choice". One example of
this shown in the text is when Tom lured Matt and Maria to the hospital and revealed the Macgregor's clone. Tom opened up the doors and said
scornfully, "It's not a boy... It's a clone." This was to show Maria that Matt was not an actual boy, but a filthy creature

Friedrich Nietzsche's Beyond Good And Evil
"Beyond Good and Evil" by Friedrich Nietzsche
In "Beyond Good and Evil," Friedrich Nietzsche analyzes in a philosophical way what makes one good or evil. He goes onto explaining the spiritual
aspect of one's self and how everything else flows from it, from one's spirit – from the inside. Also, he points out the challenges and struggle one faces
when choosing to follow one's own convictions instead of the ones imposed onto us. I'll go onto analyzing his choice of words, their meaning in his
arguments and how I relate his philosophy to my own.
In the first line of the first paragraph, with the word "beyond" Nietzsche portrays that when our actions are based on love there's no reasoning that
could surpass it. It shows that love weights more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The people I've met that have inspired me to live up to my own standards and beliefs and stand strong in them are the ones that most of the time go
with the flow. If they feel it in their spirit to do it, they don't consider what would be said, they act on their love for themselves and as Nietzsche
argues, there is no right or wrong answer in that. Then, he mentions the "wicked game." These last few months I feel like that's the game I've been
playing, the one in which you choose to risk it all, even your family's support and defy all odds just to be who you've been created to be.
The "wicked game" is the one in which you decide to cross the line of the unspoken rules of society and once you do, people think you are insane
for daring to do what nobody else has done, for daring to think and act outside of the box they've made sure you never get out. Daily, it is a risk I

Oruso : Filippo Tommaso And The Manifesto
"Standing on the world's summit, we launch once more our challenge to the stars!" Published in 1909, Filippo Tommaso Marinetti concluded his highly
influential Futurist Manifesto with this emphatic line. But for those who have read Friedrich Nietzsche, this may sound familiar. Thus Spake
Zarathustra, one of Nietzsche's most well–known works, opens with an almost identical image, namely, a man at the peak of a mountain shouting his
convictions at sun, whom he refers to as "thou exuberant star."(Zarathustra, 53). During the perid in which Marinetti wrote the Manifesto,
Nietzsche's works were gaining popularity in Europe, particularly among those who considered themselves "revolutionaries." Thus is is likely that
Marinetti would have read Nietzsche extensively, and we can see evidence of this borne out in the text of the Manifesto. Not just in its philosophy,
but also in its style and tone. In a way, the Manifesto reads very similar to Nietzsche's Beyond Good and Evil in that it conveys both the anger and
excitement of the writer. Compare the following excerpts, the former from the Manifesto, the latter taken from Beyond Good and Evil: Let the good
incendiaries with charred fingers come! Here they are! Heap up the fire to the shelves of the libraries! Divert the canals to flood the cellars of the
museums! Let the glorious canvases swim ashore! Take the picks and hammers! Undermine the foundation of venerable towns! and Well then! All

very young age. During his lifetime he published many masterpiece books like The Birth of Tragedy, The Gay Science, Beyond Good and Evil, and

the government has no interest in individuals or their values and rights. Nazis were uncaring about the lives of the individuals and were willing to kill
as many individuals as was necessary to achieve their group's advantage. Individuals were defined by their group identity and were seen only as

Gay Marriage: A Modern Soddom and Gomorra Essay
Gay parenting and marriage has become publicly accepted by some and rejected by others. Many have come to believe this topic to be immoral and
impossible. Society has also realized that the average family has developed into many different forms in the last few years. Gay families have
developed and are perceived today that raising kids without both a Mom and Dad, deprives the child from being introduced to both worlds. The
approach to this debated topic will be to analyze and to defend the "cons" of gay parenting and marriage.
Ever since the beginning of creation, God made man and woman to reproduce and create humanity. God never in between allowed or said that same sex
marriage was permissible or was the natural way to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only purpose of gay marriage is to increase the emotional gratification of two adults. Most of society argues this, and defends their argument that
there is no substance or worth to a same–sex marriage because it can't produce a family naturally and goes against what is looked at as normal in
humanity.
If children have the right to do anything, it would be to begin life with a mother and father. Death, divorce, abandonment, – any one of these takes away
the existence of a mother or father in a child's life. But only same–sex marriage would confirm that children are deprived from birth of either a mother
or a father. Now a days, many same–sex advocates are arguing that children do not do better with a mother and a father.
To support this theory, they continue to ask, "Where are the studies" that prove children do better with a father and a mother? Not only are there no
such studies, they claim, but in fact, "studies show" that children raised with parents of the same sex do just as well as children raised by a father and
a mother. This statement is completely false because recent studies have shown that children growing up with same sex parents will experience more
difficulties in finding their sexual identity than compared to heterosexual children. Also they have come to prove that same–sex kids are more apt to
mental breakdowns, behavior problems, or would be less psychologically healthy than others

Gay Marriage: A Right That Is to Be Accepted Essay
Just how much in America, or anywhere in general, that accept people for their choices? To be honest, there isn't many places on the PLANET that
does so. Currently only about 16 states in the united states have made gay rights legal, meaning only sixteen states in an entire country with 50 states
allow gay marriage.("Where State Laws Stand") I want to take a stand for gay marriages, and why it should be legal.
Most people agree and disagree about legalizing gay marriages. To be honest, is it really a big issue? If gay marriages become legal, it won't end the
world. Social Science Quarterly have even found that "Laws permitting same–sex marriage have no effect on marriage, divorce and abortion
rates".(Langbein) This example shows that gay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, study shows that children adopted by same–sex couples are just as well adjusted as heterosexual couples. ( Farr ) This shows that children
raised by same–sex parents won't affect them any less than heterosexual parents. So to conclude it all, gay couples could give children at orphanages a
home, and that the fact that kids raised by same–sex couples won't be any difference than being raised by heterosexual couples. Most homophobic or
religious people will probably tell you that gay marriages are sins against God, therefore should not be legalized. Thier claims quoted by
Congregation for Doctrine of the Faith and approved by Pope John Paul the second, states "Marriage was established by the creator with it's own
nature, essential properties and purpose. No ideology can erase from the human spirit the certainly that marriage exists solely between a man and a
women."( Card Joseph ) Stating that since life is born between a man and woman, gay marriage would go against the nature of that. Despite
opposition, I am still convinced that marriage for same–sex couples should be legal. Just because some groups of people dont like the idea of same–sex
privilages shouldn't change the fact that marriage is marriage. In the document :"Cleveland Board of Education v. LaFleur" ,it further proves this
statement by simply stating: "Freedom of personal choice in matters of marriage and family

the goal of liberal science is to seek out truth, truth can only be brought out through unregulated discussion. Everyone has different ideas and ways of

If the highest point of development has come with part 4's higher men, then Zarathustra must concede to this prophet of great weariness, the cipher of
Schopenhauer, for whom "It is all one, nothing is worth while, the world is without meaning, knowledge chokes."3. The Schopenhauerian Prophet's
proclaimed destruction of first–order visceral passion cuts the route of Zarathustra's would–be creation of new values. By seducing Zarathustra too pity
the prophet would persuade Zarathustra to acknowledge that he shares in the prophet and higher men's unhappiness, and that his claim to happiness
has been a lie. The prophet warns Zarathustra that "the waves around your mountain rise and rise... waves of great distress and affliction: soon they
will lift your boat up too, and carry you away... Do you still hear nothing? Does not the sound of rushing and roaring arise from the depths?" (Thus

The Gay Science: Nietzsche's Psychological State Of Nihilism
In the modern sense of the term, Nietzsche is a nihilist. However, by his own definitions, Nietzsche is not a nihilist. By modern definition, a nihilist
is one who lacks belief in anything, and disbelieves in truth and in any meaning to life. According to Nietzsche there are three psychological states of
nihilism, which to label briefly are disappointment, monism, and extremism. When one analyses each state, one can see that Nietzsche does not
qualify as any of them. It is hard to doubt that Nietzsche may have experienced each psychological state, but he never remained with one. He is a
separate category of nihilist. To fully appreciate what Nietzsche is, one must have a basic understanding of the psychological states of nihilism. When
one reaches the first psychological state of nihilism, the individual is disappointed that there is no meaning to anything. In the second state, one
believes in a type of universal unity as a way to justify one's own value and to cope with the meaninglessness of everything. At the third state, one
denies all true and any meaning in the universe. The individual gains a sense of hopelessness and no longer finds reason to live life. Throughout The
Gay Science, Nietzsche provides examples that suggest... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

life without meaning. Additionally, he created reasons for living, such as seeking new ways to enjoy oneself and seek out impossible challenges.
Nietzsche stressed that one should affirm life with his or her actions. For instance, Nietzsche said in section 283 of Book Four of The Gay Science,
"[f]or believe me: the secret for harvesting from existence the greatest fruitfulness and greatest enjoyment is – to live dangerously!" Even though
everything lacks meaning, life is worth living for the sake of living

A Character Analysis of Elsa It is hard to hear the words "let it go" without bursting into song, thanks to Disney's 2013 animated feature film Frozen.
Derived from the Disney princess franchise, Frozen follows two sisters, Elsa and Anna, as they inherit their family's kingdom after the sudden and
unexpected death of their parents. Elsa being the oldest of the two, is the newly crowned queen of Arendelle, but what no one knows is that she is
hiding a secret. According to Linda Seger's article "Creating the Myth" in Signs of Life in the USA "other myths revolve around make–believe
characters who might capsulize for us the sum total of many of our journeys." Meaning, that Elsa's story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another similarity comes from Elsa and her parents' reaction to her unique power. After her power causes a near fatal accident, Elsa is forbidden
by her parents to use her power. Elsa's father tells her to "conceal it, don't feel it, and don't let it show" as he teaches her to "control" a power in
which she has no control over. She is then ostracized for being different and is kept in limited contact with people, secluding herself in her room.
The seclusion in the room is symbolic for being "in the closet." According to an article called "What Do Pink Triangles Represent" authors Camry
Carey and Stefan Koob of University Wire state "being 'in the closet' is different for everyone. Generally, it comes with feelings of hiding something,
depending on one's reason for choosing to stay in the closet." It goes on to say it typically comes from a feeling that the person would be in danger if
they came out. While the closet is not an actual closet, it is a metaphor for hiding ones sexual orientation. Elsa's journey mirrors one that many LGBT
people travel, she is ostracized for being born different, and is forced into the metaphorical closet, which in the movie, is her bedroom. Next,
comparing the stages of Elsa's "coming out" and the paradigm between coming out and peoples initial reactions. In the movie Elsa lacks control of her

For many Nietzsche's proclamation of God's death is liberating. No longer shall life be dictated by groundless superstition; we are now free to judge
for ourselves what constitutes a good life. The adoption of this idea seems to allow for greater degrees of self–fulfillment. If this is the case, why is it
that such a large portion of our population still upholds religion? In book four of Thus Spoke Zarathustra Nietzsche addresses one of the central
concerns entailed by the abandonment of religion. Proceeding his discourses on the higher man Zarathustra temporarily retreats from his guests.

wild animals, woods caves, steep mountains, and labyrinthian gorges... even if such desire in you is real, it still seems impossible to me. For fear is
the original and basic feeling of man; from fear, everything is explicable, original sin and original virtue. From fear my own virtue too has grown, and
it is called science." (p.414). The conscientious man has taken such issue with others out of a desire for certainty. He hopes that Zarathustra can teach
him truths that will provide secure footing in a confusing world. However, the others have accepted a life of uncertainty and danger. Attempting to
affirm his desires the conscientious man appeals to fear which he believes to be the most primitive feature of man. He asserts that everything even
science originates from fear. Therefore, his inclination to avoid danger is virtuous and at the very least

Young Soul Rebels Essay
What is the relationship between masculinity, homosexuality, and race? Isaac Julien's film Young Soul Rebels tells the story of the friendship between
Chris and Caz–two young, black man growing up in England in the 1970's who run an illegal soul radio station together. Their friendship is put
through a series of trials when Caz's friend, TJ (who, like Caz is gay) is murdered, and Chris is wrongfully named a suspect. This film examines the
interactions of a variety of youth subcultures that were prevalent in the UK during this time period; namely punks, soulboys, and skinheads. Within
these interactions, tensions regarding gender, sexuality, andrace also come into play. Caz's position as a dark–skinned, gay male is significant given the
associations that many of the characters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hickey notes that early race science still holds influence over how our modern, white–centric culture views black male bodies. Early race science
marked black male bodies as being sexually dangerous and voracious, which has caused modern culture to view black men as being both violent and
hypersexual. In addition, the obsession that race scientists had with black male genitalia led to the hypermasculinization of black men that we still
continue to see in mainstream culture and media today by only reducing black men to their sexual parts that define them as being male. The viewer
can observe the effects of these stereotypes when Caz and Billibud first enter the gay club. Caz is fetishized almost immediately by white men. A man
who Caz does not know approaches him and strokes his arm repeatedly without his consent. Caz

Pfg Scholarship Research Paper
PFLAG Scholarship Ever since I discovered I was not normal, people started to ask questions about my personal feelings because mine weren't the
same as theirs. What do I mean by normal? The word normal means guys who are attracted to women and women who are attracted to men. My mind
spun for several years. It was difficult to figure out what I want in life. Soon I learned that there are labels for liking the opposite gender or the same
gender. I realized my feelings and desires towards a guy were normal for me. I knew it would be a challenging for my family to accept me being gay.
Being the only gay male in the family was not as easy as it sounded in my head. I decided to wait for the "right time". As years passed, it took a toll out

The Political Causes Of The Gay Marriage Culture Change
The Political Causes of the Gay Marriage Culture Change
On June 26, 2015, Obergefell v. Hodges was decided, and same–sex marriage would be legalized throughout the United States. President Barack
Obama promptly called the plaintiff, Jim Obergefell, to congratulate him and his partner on their legal victory:
We're really proud of you. Just know that, you know, not only have you been a great example for people, but you're also going to bring about a
lasting change in this country. And it's pretty rare where that happens. So I couldn't be prouder of you and your husband. God bless you. (as qtd. in
Scott, 2016)
Obama's glaring support of the Obergefell decision belies his earlier sentiments in 2010. When asked his stance on gay marriage five years earlier,
President Obama claimed he was against it, but stated, "I'm wrestling with this. My attitudes are evolving on this" (as qtd. in Kerry, 2015). The facts
don't lie: President Obama did a complete 180 in his views on same–sex marriage, from timid indifference to bold support. Obama was not alone in
this change of heart. In fact, he was in good company. A 2017 Pew Research study found that nearly 30% of Americans changed their minds in less
than two decades. In 2001, a mere 35% of Americans supported same–sex marriage, but in 2017, a 62% majority of Americans responded in the
affirmative (Pew Research Center, 2017). With such a massive shift in opinions over such a short period of time, it should come as no surprise that the
most recent presidential candidates vocalized support for same–sex couples, from empty promises to a sharpied pride flag. This raises the question of
how it became unthinkable to even think about supporting gay marriage, to how it became next to unthinkable to oppose gay marriage– all in the time
span of a decade and a half. The reason behind this sudden change is multifaceted. First, early gay rights activism started to succeed despite all odds,
leading to a political avalanche. Secondly, popular political ideologies changed to become more inclusive of LGBT individuals. Finally, gay people
became more visible, and society had to learn how to interact with them, resulting in more positive and less stereotyped views of the gay community.

The Stonewall Riot of 1969
While it was barely a kernel of activism against the immense backdrop of advocacy during the 1960's and 70's, the gay liberation movement was one of
the most important challenges to the hierarchal structures of accepted moral and scientific thought. Functioning as a minor footnote within the context
of a substantial political arena comprised of the issues of war, race and a raging women's liberation movement, gay liberation in the late twentieth
century still sought to impress upon the marginalizing and sectarian constructions that subjugated gays to an imposed peripheral existence of personal
and public abhorrence. The Stonewall Riot of 1969 signaled the start of a substantial social movement, the dissemination of which would permeate the
gay community and call into action an assault on the mechanisms of social order, public legislation and cultural dispositions that sustained a framework
of persecution against homosexual men and women. The efforts of gay liberation activists during the sexual revolution of the late twentieth century
made possible the near expulsion of constraints on sexual expression and gave way to a new rhetoric of pride and affirmation. For some gay men and
women, just being a homosexual in the late 20th century meant being a part of the movement– no political agenda necessary. Sexual politics, after all,
have a visceral quality that isn't easy to ignore, which D'Emilio and Freedman attest to when they recognize that "gayness itself symbolized an

Born Gay or Chose to be that way: the Reason and Science Behind Sexual Orientation. For the past few decades, a widely debated topic within the
LGBTQ community has been the born gay or chose to by gay controversy. For many many members for the LGBTQ community, you can't choose

ideology can be a "self hating narrative" (Ambrosino par 46 ), not only that, but the science on the topic is fairly limited.

Nietzsche's The Gay Science: Analysis
Nietzsche describes in The Gay Science chapter that the madman figures out that God is dead and that humans are murderers of him. Nietzsche is
trying to say that the madman comprehended God is not the reason there is good and bad anymore. There is no existence of the initial motive to have
Christian morals. Individuals are now in control of their own judgement after they view God as dead, just like the madman. God is not the reason to be
moral, people can now look to science and also find reasons of their own to be good or bad. People can define their own ideas of so they are not
obligated to live guilty. Nietzsche reflects that God put a great deal of stress on people and made feeling guilty for their sins all the time. What was

What Is Born This Way Or Born This Way Essay
Born this Way or Chose this Way: The Science Behind Sexual Orientation.
In recent years, human sexuality has changed massively. With the legalization of same sex marriage, as well as, the continuation of the gay rights
movement, several groups are starting to question, are humans born gay, straight, or did they choose to be that way? Scientists, conservatives, as
well as the LGBTQ community have been arguing about this controversy for several years. For the LGBTQ community, pop culture has played a
huge aspect in the "born this way" movement. Songs like Macklemore's "Same Love' and Lady Gaga's Born this way" have empowered activism, as
well as, the "born this way" ideology.
For conservative religious groups, conservative politicians, and even some parts of the LGBTQ community the "chose this way" ideology can be a
touchy subject. In Brandon Ambrosino's article "I am Gay –but I Wasn't Born This Way", the author believes the idea of being "born this way" can
damage self image, not only that, but he believes that humans aren't extracted from the womb with a fixed mindset for the rest of their lives.

Sociology : Science As X
Erin Sakakibara ID: 504–023–123 December 19, 2014 Sociology 191V – Science As X Science as "The Normalizer" I have not lived in a society
where homosexuality is not visible and a popular topic in both the scientific and sociological community. Growing up in Los Angeles meant that I was
exposed to a culture that, in general, allowed the homosexual population to classify themselves differently and pursue their desired lifestyles, but I had
never really considered how much gay presence has changed. Studying sociology at UCLA has introduced me to the mixture of perspectives that
influences our behavior experiences as human beings. Most interesting to me is the interaction of biological, psychological, and social factors that
shape the environment we live in, our behavioral tendencies, our place in society, our attitudes towards others and vice versa, and our self–concept. I
have noticed how the classifications of people based on the factors listed above affect those who are so classified. And more specifically, I have
wondered, what role does science play in this process? Science has been a dominant factor in determining our beliefs about practically anything and
everything – from medical discoveries and health studies to dieting and exercise. When it comes to people, and specifically "deviant" people, science
seeks to control, help, organize, change, and/or understand them. We categorize individuals based on various properties, and specifically for

Essay about Nietzsche and the Prophet
Nietzsche and the Prophet
According to Friedrich Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra, the meaning of human existence is to make room for the "Superman": a superhuman who
perseveres in its capacity for unlimited self–creation. (Pg. 49)[1] In order for humankind to embrace its self–creative nature and allow for the
transcendence into this superhuman condition, however, we must first learn to destroy our present tables of values; it is our desperate adherence to
traditional (religious) values which prevents us from actualizing our potential for self–creation. It is important to note, however, that it is not the
creation of these traditional values in and of itself that Nietzsche condemns. After all, self–creation is not only a ... Show more content on

So, in spite of the immanent desire to be rid of the past, Nietzsche's protagonist, Zarathustra, finds himself unable to completely sever himself from it.
Hence Zarathustra's struggle to affirm his past while pursuing a self–creating future.
The aim of this paper is threefold. First, I will provide evidence for the interpretation of The Prophet as an elucidation of the struggle of Nietzsche's
protagonist to reconcile this inalienable relationship between the past and the future. In doing so, I will focus on three main facets of the passage,
namely, the prophet, Zarathustra's dream and, the misinterpretation of the dream by the disciple. Second, I will demonstrate how The Prophet can
simultaneously be interpreted so as to advance Nietzsche's own view of human nature as self–creativity. Third, I will explicate what ramifications my
interpretations of The Prophet has on the relationship between Nietzsche and his reader.
The Inalienable Relationship Between the Past and the Future
The Prophet begins with Zarathustra being told that "Everything is empty, everything is one, everything is past!". (Pg. 155) That is, the prophet
informs Zarathustra that the present–day way of life has become tired and saturated; there is no more advancement to be made in the absence of a
rudimentary transformation of humankind. In short, the time has come for the self–destruction and re–creation of humankind; the time has come for

Nietzsche's View Of Dionysus
In a letter to a nun, Bernard of Clairvaux admonishes, "Until now, when living according to your will and not the will of God, by your law and not
that of God, you were living while dead, living in the world but dead to God; or, if I can speak more truly, living neither in the world or for God" (qtd.
in Newman 177). The sentiments that living on one's terms and not God's is and was common within Christianity. In fact, multiple documents written
in the medieval era point to the tenet that people must live submit their will to God to achieve salvation and to be accepted in the Christian community.
Part of submitting to his doctrine involves inhibiting visceral and brutish aspects of the self and encouraging spiritual and benevolent (civilized)... Show

Dionysus, representing the oneness of existence, is experienced as an individuated image appearing to dazed spectators–a relationship that is the germ
of Greek tragic theater as a mimesis of human life" (505). If this concept were to exist in Lybeaus Desconus, the townspeople would experience a sense
of awe for both women displayed during the exhibition. They might compare in positive terms the difference between and preferences they might see.
In addition, the hero who is on display (in this case, Lybeaus Desconus) would provide a sense of unity between the Dionysian and the Apollonian.
Instead of the Apollonian figure emerging from the primordial oneness of existence where opposites would coexist, Lybeaus Desconus systematically
slaughters the creatures that represent wildness and restricts notions of beauty. The foreground of Nietzsche's criticisms of Christianity comprises
repudiating not only ecstasy but also suffering, manifested through suppressing bodily impulses and instinctive drives and focusing on an afterlife
rather than the current moment. In general, it is likely Nietzsche would react more positively to the Christian ideals embedded in many medieval texts
than he does in the early 20th century. Ben Morgan reveals

In Friedrich Nietzsche's novel, The Gay Science, he discusses the death of God or more explicitly, "...the belief in the Christian God has become
unbelievable" (Nietzsche 199). What people believed was true years ago is now false. He questions whether our concept of God is our oldest lie. He
pronounces that he and certain other people are free spirits, children of the future, and argonauts of the ideal. What Nietzsche means by this is that he
and certain other people have the capability to be free from high moral standards produced by religion. One could counter argue that God is not dead
because church and religion is still very active in today's society. So much of our thinking revolves around God and truth. When we lose religion...

They have an understanding that the world we live in is not divine, and that man is not only "a venerating animal," he is also a mistrustful one. "The
more mistrust, the more philosophy" (Nietzsche 204). What Nietzsche means by this is that the more we question the theory of religion, (Buddhism
and Christianity) the more knowledge we will gain about ourselves and the world. It is not merely pessimism, but having the ability to laugh at
the notion of "man against the world' for man is a vital part of the world (Nietzsche 204). And while the children of the future sees the world as
ungodly, immoral, and inhuman, they do not see it as being worthless. The idea of obeying and being commanded by a god comes from religion.
Some people are afraid of not believing in anything. They need some kind of faith, so they are willing to be commanded. According to Nietzsche,

The Views On Gay Marriage
Many individuals throughout the world are being discriminated against or physically abused based on their sexual orientation, and because they
don't fit the "norm" of everyday people. Gay individuals are looked at with hatred from various cultures, and right now they are struggling for the
right to legally marry, regardless of what other people's views. Partner is a term people use for homosexual couples, instead of using wife or
husband. Many citizens of America view homosexuals in either scientific terms, or a biblical/stereotypical perspective. These two varying points
make gay marriage a controversial topic, which is discussed among thousands of different people everyday. When viewing the two sides, it can be
difficult choice to choose which one is more logical, but in this paper, all sides will be reviewed with evidence from different sources. Looking at
the scientific outlook of this topic, these thinkers view homosexuals with love and respect, and most who support this cause are activists for many
other important issues. The three crucial stances activists fight for go as follows; It is not a choice for Gay people to decide their sexual orientation,
traditional marriage has already been redefined by societal change, and being homosexual is a natural occurrence in nature. On the other hand, there
are people who oppose all three standpoints. This is the religious side of the subject, which goes off biblical preachings. They feel God sees

If someone does not follow a deity, believe in a spirit, or even fear the afterlife, is he absent of morals? The writer Albert Camus wrote the novel

Gay Marriage Should Be Legal
Gay marriage is one of the most debated and controversial issues in today's society. Everyone has his or her opinions on gay marriage, whether it is
acceptable or should not be allowed. According to The Washington post, "59 percent say they support same–sex marriage while 34 percent are
opposed"(Craighil, P., & Clement). While 59% of the supporting gay is a high number, however that number is skewed. There is a difference between
tolerance and acceptance, but the 59% is the total of the both. People have different perspectives on gay marriage. The ones that will be in this essay
are, social science against same–sex marriage, most religions against same–sex marriage, and people for it.
People that approve same–sex marriage have been going up as time goes, and more people accept same–sex marriage more than ever before.
Thirty–one states have approved same sex marriage (ProConorg Headlines). That many states would not have approved same–sex marriage if their
people didn't approve it. The states that have approved gay marriage are the most populous states, such as California.
According to Gay marriage pro–con," Marriage is redefined as society 's attitudes evolve, and the majority of Americans now support gay

Machiavelli And Love
Friedrich Nietzsche's The Gay Science uses definitions and descriptions to compare love and greed and ultimately argue that love is often merely
another name for greed. He contrasts 'love' as having a positive connotation, whereas 'greed' holds a negative one. But upon defining each and showing
examples of love, he calls into question if the love of neighbors and love of truth and knowledge are not just another craving for possession. This
desire for what is new is compared using the description of one's desire to travel to more beautiful places after living somewhere new for even just
three months. Nietzsche suggests that such an unsatisfied spirit is one of greed because the person constantly wants to possess what he or she does not

This is different from Nietzsche's approach because he does not employ definitions and descriptions as much, but rather compares the degrees of
severity in the effects of both love and fear. Machiavelli begins by noting that love is "held by the tie of obligation" and thus one may break that
bond if he or she faces difficulty or has a personal interest. This is then compared with fear which is "bound by the apprehension of punishment" and
is, therefore, a reliable relationship. Machiavelli compares these two examples of cause and effect to emphasize that in the context of an army, it is
better to be feared than loved. His use of rhetoric here makes the reader consider the outcome of different war scenarios if the leader is not feared.
He proposes that an army that loves its commander may fall apart due to the frail and fickle nature of man when in the heat of battle. This is then
compared to a commander who has instilled a healthy fear in his army and, as a result, has remained victorious and united in the face of war. By using
these techniques, he effectively argues that the impacts of being feared are far better than those of being loved. This method of comparison is different
from Nietzsche's because Machiavelli assumes the definitions of his terms and goes right ahead to showing causes and effects of love and fear.

Nietzschean Values
In my essay I will be discussing three topics from the Nietzschean texts The Gay Science and Thus Spoke Zarathustra. The three main topics
concerning these texts that I will talk about are "the overman", "the death of God" and "the new and old sets of values". Briefly, how these three topics
relate is that once God is dead, (meaning that we do not believe in him anymore), humanity will have to create new sets of values. These new sets of
values will need to have our own meaning instead of looking to a metaphysical world for truth. I think that the "overman", is the men that will be
able to completely abandon the old set of values and create the new ones; he is both a lawbreaker and a law–creator.
First off, I want to talk about the concept ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is the man that will completely eliminate the metaphysical part of his life and move on to a new era. Nietzsche talks about the overman in his book
Thus Spoke Zarathustra when he says: "I teach you the overman. Man is something that shall be overcome."(124). Additionally, Nietzsche mentions the
"the overman" in another very interesting quotation saying: " Man is a rope tied between beast and overman – a rope over an abyss. A dangerous
across, a dangerous on–the–way, a dangerous looking–back, a dangerous shuddering and stopping. What is great in man is that he is a bridge and not
an end..." (Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, 126). This quotation tells us that the modern man is a bridge to becoming the overman but he is scared
of what is on the other side. What that means, is that in order for the modern man to completely abandon the old values and to overcome the belief in
God, he must cross that bridge and become the overman. This quotation explains to us in an abstract way the challenge that the modern man must
overcome in order to become the

What Is Spoke Zastra Unethical
Thus Spoke Zarathustra is a philosophical work that Nietzsche wrote in an innovative way by presenting philosophy as fiction by telling a story instead
of presenting it like other philosophers in a factual and informative way. Nietzsche named his character Zarathustra after the founder of the ancient
Persian religion, Zoroastrianism and not founders of Western civilization religions because he wanted to show that Judeo–Christianity was flawed in
their teachings and practices. The first theme that Nietzsche introduced in his work was "God is Dead" in the beginning of the story when Zarathustra
met a saint who questioned him why he wanted to join humanity again when they are so imperfect and flawed, which is why he only loves God. The

A dangerous going–across, a dangerous wayfaring, a dangerous looking–back, a dangerous shuddering and staying still" explains that while man is
mostly governed by their own animal instincts, they do have the full potential to become the Overman by overcoming the philosophical distance
between themselves and the Overman. Humans' animal instincts are humans' flaws such as shallowness, prejudice, and putting faith into something
else instead of themselves; this, Nietzsche feared, would lead the masses to adopt the herd mentality trait that animals possessed. Nietzsche first
introduced the concept of the herd mentality in his work, The Utility and Liability of History for Life. He explained that the grazing herd is unlike
humans in that they do not remember their past lives and only live in the present moment where they only focus their actions on basal activities such as
eating, sleeping, and roaming around in their group. The grazing herd lives only in the moment, and they do not face any suffering or hardship;
therefore, humans are envious of them and long to adapt this mentality in order not to suffer and lead content lives. However, if humanity chose to
become the overman, it would not be easy, and there would be many obstacles, dangers, and sufferings they would have to face. Nonetheless, Nietzsche
through Zarathustra was optimistic that humans could overcome this

The Thus Spoke Zarathustra By The Nineteenth Century
In the "Thus Spoke Zarathustra", written by the 19th century philosopher Nietzsche, we are presented with many sermons that are structure similar to
parables from the Lutheran Bible. These sermons are given to us by the main character, Zarathustra, on our quest to find the overman (ubermench).
Zarathustra uses many characters to present stories about the flaws of humanity and how we are to get better. In "Thus Spoke Zarathustra", Zarathustra
uses the character of an ass (donkey) that was first presented to us through the sermon of "Talking to the kings" and plays a major role in the later
novel. The Ass is used as an idol that many of Zarathustra's guests praise as a God. The utilization of the Ass as an idol of worship is Nietzsche's
criticism on how Christians worship their God. In the sermon of "Talking to two kings", Zarathustra hears two men approaching where he was
dwelling. He called out to them and realized that they were two kings searching for the overman. Zarathustra introduces the Ass by yelling out to the
kings saying, "Strange! Strange! How does this fit together? Two kings I see–and only one ass!" (356 p2). The kings reply to Zarathustra and when he
is presents himself to them, the kings are it total dismay. They explain that they are looking for the overman for he is the one higher than the lords.
Zarathustra is pleased by their desire to find the overman. The kings then told Zarathustra that they plan to convey the Ass to the overman. During the

The Prologue And Part One Of The Book ' Nietzsche '
Whether the happening be good or bad, humans tend to rationalize the circumstance and make it an event that served a greater purpose. In Thus
Spoke Zarathustra by Friedrich Nietzsche, Zarathustra describes this behavior, along with many others, as life denying as he was mainly concerned
with ethics. The prologue tells the story of how Zarathustra went up a mountain and spent ten years there gaining wisdom; he then descends to
share his wisdom but the people laugh at him and he comes to realize that they did not and would not take him seriously because they were too far
gone with old beliefs. He also came to the conclusion that he did not want people who conform and do not think for themselves, or followers, but
rather people who desire to go in the same direction he is going. Throughout the prologue and part one of the book Nietzsche is trying to teach those
who can think for themselves about how to live well and without excuses. The prologue mainly consists of Zarathustra descending from the mountain
back into the town and realizing that no one takes him seriously. Zarathustra is discouraged at first but then realizes that he was not targeting the right
audience and begins again. He starts off by establishing an overman, who is someone who can affirm and embrace life completely without any
excuses. Consecutively he establishes a last man, who is said to be someone who has no questions, no chaos, no creativity, and seeks comfort and
security. His view of man is a cross

Gay Marriage Equality

  • 1. Gay Marriage Equality Should Marriage Equality be Welcomed or Frowned Upon? Should this nation have the right to deny a citizen equality? Overall, the answer should be no. Surprisingly enough, the majority of our nation says there should not be marriage equality because it is unethical. The topic of marriage equality has been around for almost fifty years and it does not seem to be going away anytime soon as it is still a very prominent discussion in our society. The very first time a couple of the same sex applied for a marriage license was in December of 1970. The couples' names were Richard John 'Jack' Baker and James Michael McConnell. They were denied marriage whenever they came forward to be married. As a result, they tried to sue the County District clerk, however the supreme court sided by the clerk (Gay Marriage Timeline History of the Same–Sex Marriage Debate). Less than three years later Maryland became the first state to officially make same sex marriage illegal and many other states soon followed in their footsteps. What made them prohibit same sex in the first place and did they have a valid reason in doing so? There are very strong arguments for both sides of this topic, nevertheless that does not deny that this is a right and it is wrong to restrict it. If this is not a given right then why would a county court judge speak out? In Florida, a country court judge stood up against the gay marriage ban. She voiced her opinion about how the ban on same sex marriage only hurts, discriminates, and prevents all of the people affected by the ban from participating in a cultural experience of our country (Should Gay Marriage be Legal?). By preventing them from being like everyone else in the country, they are being counted as inferior. People commonly make negative judgments and critics against people who just want to find love. Gay couples are constantly being shot down just because they want to express themselves. How is this fair? Google sent out their own statement about gay marriage saying that "we should not eliminate anyone's fundamental rights, whatever their sexuality, to marry the person they love" (''Why Should We Care about Marriage Equality?'': Political Advocacy as a Part of Corporate Responsibility). • 2. Historical Overview of Homosexuality Abstract Progression of Homosexuality: Evolution of a phenomenon over time Some authors believe that homosexuality is not a kind of conduct, as commonly supposed, but a psychological condition (Woggon, 1981). Thus, it is important to understand that the genuine homosexual condition or inversion, as it is often termed. This condition is something for which the subject is in no way responsible. Some literature suggests that homosexuality in itself it is morally neutral. Like the condition of heterosexuality, however, it tends to find expression in specific sexual acts; and such acts are subject to moral judgment (McNeill, 1966). A major premise established in contemporary literature is the concept thatsexual orientation ranges ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is the way a portion of the population expresses human love and sexuality" From the premises established in this section, a holistic illustration of world–views regarding homosexuality, can be detailed. World Views of Homosexuality Secular As discussed previously, the first half (and a little beyond) of the 20th century spawned varying views of homosexuality (constitutional, developmental and genetic were the main ones). However, the worldviews resulting from such were congruent in the main. This is primarily because of the fact that these theories were aiming to explain the occurrence of a class of aberration/disorder. Consequently, claims, such as homosexuality being classified as a serious psychiatric and social problem (Bieber, 1969), were commonplace in academic literature and reverberated in the wider society. The passage of time into the final quarter of the last century, realized a progressively softer position regarding homosexuality, by both from the academic and wider community. This softening can be observed as being simultaneous with stances adopted by the APA. After the organization's actions in 1973 and 1975 concerning acceptance of homosexuality, the literature had been littered with expressions of the wide variability in the social acceptance of homosexual activity (Greenberg & Bystryn, 1982). • 3. Nietzsche Madman Allegory In The Gay Science An Analysis of Nietzsche's Madman Allegory in The Gay Science Nietzsche's madman allegory represents the current moral situation of society during his time––a growing belief that God does not exist, a movement away from religious values. Nietzsche does not mean literally that God has been murdered, but because mankind created God, we also have the ability to kill God. In Nietzsche's point of view, mankind created God by also creating a belief in God. By saying that mankind 'murdered' God, Nietzsche is proposing that we no longer believe in Him. With the grounding that religion provided in the past, Nietzsche fears that mankind will be left without purpose and virtues to lead them to do the correct thing. The 'light,' in Nietzsche's allegory is belief in God; for this paper, light is a focus because of the implications that follow when there is none. With no light, everything previously known about moral beliefs and the world is overturned. Nietzsche proposes that instead of God guiding people (because people no longer believe in Him), people can follow their own virtues, such as courage, faith in oneself, and patience for the future. Nietzsche sets the scene for the current moral situation of society in the beginning of his allegory: the madman "in the bright morning lit a lantern and ran around the marketplace crying incessantly, "I'm looking for God!" (В§125). The madman is distressed because many fundamental beliefs of Christianity––the belief in God and "sin, repentance, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Gender Science IAT Essay 1. Gender – Science IAT 2. I chose this test because I was interested in seeing what I thought about male/female roles. 3. My level of result was strong, meaning that I have a strong association of male with science and female with liberal arts. 4. I matched the 26% column on the chart. 5. The test surprised me when the topics switched sides on the screen. I got used to the location where they were so I had to pay more attention to which key to press so that I didn't accidentally send it to the incorrect side. Furthermore, I was surprised just how strong my association of male with science and female with liberal arts was. 6. Implicit bias is the attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions, and decisions in an unconscious manner. It is our honest opinion about something, even if we didn't know that was our opinion. 7. School: Personally in my math and science classes there were a lot more males in my classes than females and this lead me to believe that more men were interested in these subjects than men. If you are around them and see that they are just like everyone else, you are less likely to have bias towards them. Print media: once again, what the media puts out deters people's beliefs. Many media sites put down gay people, which leads to people supporting these beliefs. Family: if someone is raised in a family where they are taught that it is okay to be gay then the child is more likely to hold those beliefs. But if a child is raised in an environment where it is not acceptable to be gay then they may agree with their parents and have a negative opinion towards gay individuals. • 5. The Gay Science : A Modern Critique Of Science The Gay Science: A Modern Critique of Science Bertrand Russell wrote about Nietzsche in A History of Western Philosophy, "He invented no new technical theories in ontology or epistemology; his importance is primarily in ethics, and secondarily as an acute historical critic." (Russell 760) If The Gay Science is read as a true prescription for how science should be done, the majority of Nietzsche's sections seem unrelated; there is no clear way too see how these sections speak to what is commonly understood as science. However, there exist a fair number of sections in this book that seem to speak directly on the common understanding of science about how it should be conducted, including the many missteps it has taken leading up to the writing of The Gay Science. When reading these sections closely, Nietzsche's writing reflects many strikingly modern understandings of science. Many of these modern understandings and philosophies of science inferred from the text are from very different points in time and represent distinct philosophies of science, but they all have an underlying theme of positivism, subjectivism, and social constructivism. In certain sections The Gay Science should be read as a serious critique of scientific practice; a critique that should be taken seriously, even among modern sociologists and philosophers of science. If The Gay Science is to be read in this way, contrary to Bertrand Russell's opinion, Nietzsche has much to say about the ontological import of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Debate over Gay Parenting Essay Over the last several decades, gay rights have been a growing topic in the public and in the court rooms. Recently, the debate about gays having the right or ability to parent has become a hot topic, due to the expanding gay community. There are typically two stances taken on the topic of gay parenting: it's wrong and should be illegal or it's normal and should be legal. While the norms, stereotypes and debates about gay parenting have varied over the years, today there seems to be a positive consensus when it comes to the beliefs about children being raised by homosexuals. Although today most psychologists agree that parents' sexual orientation does not affect the well–being of a child, less than 40 years ago, doctors considered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These negative stereotypes lead to a society basing values off of heterosexual norms. There are also some popular beliefs and fears of the effects of gay parents on their children, "in particular its effects on the development of 'normal' sexual and gender identities" (Clarke). Arguers claim that children raised by gay parents are more likely to have psychological issues, be sexually promiscuous, and even turn out gay themselves(Patterson). Besides claiming to be looking out for the best interests of children, anti–gay activists frequently express the threat that gay parents pose to American's values, because allowing gays to raise children ignores the heterosexual norms of society and re–defines the customary family. These arguments "reveal the powerful cultural link between sexual orientation and the family and its slow and arduous shift" (Rivers). In stark contrast to the commonly held beliefs and scientific studies of several decades ago, today the overwhelmingly popular norms, beliefs and debates are for gay parenting. Studies have consistently found that a parent's sexual orientation has no adverse effects on their children. Besides finding no differences mentally or socially, researchers actually found kids of gay parents are more tolerant of differences and have the advantage of being open–minded (Pappas)The well–being of a ... • 7. Analysis of Friedrich NietzscheВґs Book 5 of The Gay... Friedrich Nietzsche's own skepticism symbolized the secular changes in contemporary Western civilization, in which he details mankind's break away from faith into a new rule of chaos. In Book 5 of The Gay Science, Nietzsche establishes that "God is dead", meaning that modern Europe has abandoned religion in favor of rationality and science (Nietzsche 279). From this death, the birth of a 'new' infinite blossoms in which the world is open to an unlimited amount of interpretations that do not rely on the solid foundations of faith in religion or science. However, in contrast to the other philosophers of his age such as Immanuel Kant and Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Nietzsche deviates from the omniscient determinism of history towards a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite such claims, Nietzsche criticizes this mistaken idea that the knowledge of the universe can be comprehended by any method; he argues that not even the "most scrupulously conscientious analysis and self–examination of the intellect" cannot successfully interpret the progressive history of the world as "the human intellect cannot avoid seeing itself in [only] its perspectives" (Nietzsche 336). To Nietzsche, Kant and Hegel's attempts to find truth in history is faulty because faith is just now found in science and reasoning rather than religion. What Kant and Hegel fail to realize is that the human race's separation from this faith gave rise to "our new 'infinite'", in which "the world has become 'infinite' for [humanity] all over again, inasmuch as we cannot reject the possibility that it may include infinite interpretations" (Nietzsche 336). Thus the new infinite is self–consciously made by the individual members of humanity itself, as we can now independently interpret the world ourselves as we see fit. Nietzsche declares that even if some of these interpretations may include "too much devilry, stupidity and foolishness", it does not matter because it does not rely on faith (Nietzsche 336). The new infinite that arises is ours, in which the abundance of perspectives is too overwhelming for any scholar to give meaning to such chaos. There is no logical reason how such disorder should ... • 8. ##ethical Analysis Of 'God Is Dead' By Friedrich Nietzsche I was really confused when I first stumbled across reading this quote. I didn't really understand what Nietzsche was saying from the phrase "God is dead''. After talking with my classmates and doing some research I got a better understanding about the quote. Most people didn't understand it like me at first and they thought Nietzsche interpreted in a literal death or end of God. I think Nietzsche says this quote because he was an atheist and he had a different perspective about God which he never even believed in. Most people believe that God is all knowing and powerful so he or she can't die. The understanding I got from this quote is that I think Nietzsche is trying to say that is not relevant to people anymore meaning that people don't care. Friedrich Nietzsche is a well known philosopher who influenced many topics in the world and was not really a fan of religion. This quote is widely known by everyone and it is first shown in his 1882 collection "The Gay Science''. The phrase "God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him" can have many meanings to different people. I interpreted this phrase by thinking that people don't care about and no more have a use for God. In a sense Nietzsche is saying that large and consistent moral theories could exist without reference to God. For example, Europe no longer needed God as the source for all morality, value, or order in the universe. By that I mean philosophy and science was capable of doing that for us. As the ... • 9. The House Of The Scorpion: An Analysis In the excerpt "On the Doctrine of the Feeling of Power", it reads, "An easy prey is something contemptible for proud natures; they take delight only at the sight of unbroken persons who could become their enemies". I do not agree with Nietzsche's ideas on power, for his philosophy seems to be "keep your friends close and your enemies closer". My ideas on power are more so like El Patron's ideas from The House of the Scorpion. In the book, The House of the Scorpion, El Patron's ideas on power are as follows, "Get rid of your enemies when you can." These two quotes are distinctly different. Personally, I agree more with El Patron's take on power, for due to personal experiences, my thoughts are that ones who seek power do not take delight... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some examples of Nietzsche's philosophy found today are the elections. Candidates running for office are seeking power. Power is obtained from others, and the candidates are attempting to receive power from voters. Nietzsche writes, "We hurt those to whom we need to make our power perceptible... We benefit and show benevolence toward those who already depend on us in some way. The candidates who are running, "attack" the other candidates in order to show that they are above or better then them, and they show compassion towards voters to show "this is how great of a person I am". Another example found in today's society is companies and their advertisements. In advertisements, once again comparing present–day to Nietzsche's philosophy, the different companies think of each other as competition, and therefore criticize one another's faults to make the consumer see why they should choose them. An example of Nietzsche's philosophy found in The House of the Scorpion is how Tom was so focused on Matt's faults. Tom would reveal much of Matt's flaws and imperfections to Maria, so that he would seem like the "better choice". One example of this shown in the text is when Tom lured Matt and Maria to the hospital and revealed the Macgregor's clone. Tom opened up the doors and said scornfully, "It's not a boy... It's a clone." This was to show Maria that Matt was not an actual boy, but a filthy creature ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Friedrich Nietzsche's Beyond Good And Evil "Beyond Good and Evil" by Friedrich Nietzsche In "Beyond Good and Evil," Friedrich Nietzsche analyzes in a philosophical way what makes one good or evil. He goes onto explaining the spiritual aspect of one's self and how everything else flows from it, from one's spirit – from the inside. Also, he points out the challenges and struggle one faces when choosing to follow one's own convictions instead of the ones imposed onto us. I'll go onto analyzing his choice of words, their meaning in his arguments and how I relate his philosophy to my own. • 11. Oruso : Filippo Tommaso And The Manifesto "Standing on the world's summit, we launch once more our challenge to the stars!" Published in 1909, Filippo Tommaso Marinetti concluded his highly influential Futurist Manifesto with this emphatic line. But for those who have read Friedrich Nietzsche, this may sound familiar. Thus Spake Zarathustra, one of Nietzsche's most well–known works, opens with an almost identical image, namely, a man at the peak of a mountain shouting his convictions at sun, whom he refers to as "thou exuberant star."(Zarathustra, 53). During the perid in which Marinetti wrote the Manifesto, Nietzsche's works were gaining popularity in Europe, particularly among those who considered themselves "revolutionaries." Thus is is likely that Marinetti would have read Nietzsche extensively, and we can see evidence of this borne out in the text of the Manifesto. Not just in its philosophy, but also in its style and tone. In a way, the Manifesto reads very similar to Nietzsche's Beyond Good and Evil in that it conveys both the anger and excitement of the writer. Compare the following excerpts, the former from the Manifesto, the latter taken from Beyond Good and Evil: Let the good incendiaries with charred fingers come! Here they are! Heap up the fire to the shelves of the libraries! Divert the canals to flood the cellars of the museums! Let the glorious canvases swim ashore! Take the picks and hammers! • 13. Gay Marriage: A Modern Soddom and Gomorra Essay Gay parenting and marriage has become publicly accepted by some and rejected by others. Many have come to believe this topic to be immoral and impossible. Society has also realized that the average family has developed into many different forms in the last few years. Gay families have developed and are perceived today that raising kids without both a Mom and Dad, deprives the child from being introduced to both worlds. The approach to this debated topic will be to analyze and to defend the "cons" of gay parenting and marriage. Ever since the beginning of creation, God made man and woman to reproduce and create humanity. The only purpose of gay marriage is to increase the emotional gratification of two adults. Most of society argues this, and defends their argument that there is no substance or worth to a same–sex marriage because it can't produce a family naturally and goes against what is looked at as normal in humanity. If children have the right to do anything, it would be to begin life with a mother and father. Death, divorce, abandonment, – any one of these takes away the existence of a mother or father in a child's life. But only same–sex marriage would confirm that children are deprived from birth of either a mother or a father. Now a days, many same–sex advocates are arguing that children do not do better with a mother and a father. To support this theory, they continue to ask, "Where are the studies" that prove children do better with a father and a mother? Not only are there no such studies, they claim, but in fact, "studies show" that children raised with parents of the same sex do just as well as children raised by a father and a mother. This statement is completely false because recent studies have shown that children growing up with same sex parents will experience more difficulties in finding their sexual identity than compared to heterosexual children. Also they have come to prove that same–sex kids are more apt to mental breakdowns, behavior problems, or would be less psychologically healthy than others ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most homophobic or religious people will probably tell you that gay marriages are sins against God, therefore should not be legalized. By modern definition, a nihilist is one who lacks belief in anything, and disbelieves in truth and in any meaning to life. According to Nietzsche there are three psychological states of nihilism, which to label briefly are disappointment, monism, and extremism. When one analyses each state, one can see that Nietzsche does not qualify as any of them. It is hard to doubt that Nietzsche may have experienced each psychological state, but he never remained with one. He is a separate category of nihilist. To fully appreciate what Nietzsche is, one must have a basic understanding of the psychological states of nihilism. When one reaches the first psychological state of nihilism, the individual is disappointed that there is no meaning to anything. In the second state, one believes in a type of universal unity as a way to justify one's own value and to cope with the meaninglessness of everything. At the third state, one denies all true and any meaning in the universe. The individual gains a sense of hopelessness and no longer finds reason to live life. • 22. The Political Causes Of The Gay Marriage Culture Change The Political Causes of the Gay Marriage Culture Change On June 26, 2015, Obergefell v. Hodges was decided, and same–sex marriage would be legalized throughout the United States. President Barack Obama promptly called the plaintiff, Jim Obergefell, to congratulate him and his partner on their legal victory: We're really proud of you. Just know that, you know, not only have you been a great example for people, but you're also going to bring about a lasting change in this country. And it's pretty rare where that happens. So I couldn't be prouder of you and your husband. God bless you. (as qtd. in Scott, 2016) Obama's glaring support of the Obergefell decision belies his earlier sentiments in 2010. When asked his stance on gay marriage five years earlier, President Obama claimed he was against it, but stated, "I'm wrestling with this. My attitudes are evolving on this" (as qtd. in Kerry, 2015). The facts don't lie: President Obama did a complete 180 in his views on same–sex marriage, from timid indifference to bold support. Obama was not alone in this change of heart. In fact, he was in good company. A 2017 Pew Research study found that nearly 30% of Americans changed their minds in less than two decades. In 2001, a mere 35% of Americans supported same–sex marriage, but in 2017, a 62% majority of Americans responded in the affirmative (Pew Research Center, 2017). With such a massive shift in opinions over such a short period of time, it should come as no surprise that the most recent presidential candidates vocalized support for same–sex couples, from empty promises to a sharpied pride flag. This raises the question of how it became unthinkable to even think about supporting gay marriage, to how it became next to unthinkable to oppose gay marriage– all in the time span of a decade and a half. The reason behind this sudden change is multifaceted. First, early gay rights activism started to succeed despite all odds, leading to a political avalanche. Secondly, popular political ideologies changed to become more inclusive of LGBT individuals. Finally, gay people became more visible, and society had to learn how to interact with them, resulting in more positive and less stereotyped views of the gay community. ... The Stonewall Riot of 1969 While it was barely a kernel of activism against the immense backdrop of advocacy during the 1960's and 70's, the gay liberation movement was one of the most important challenges to the hierarchal structures of accepted moral and scientific thought. Functioning as a minor footnote within the context of a substantial political arena comprised of the issues of war, race and a raging women's liberation movement, gay liberation in the late twentieth century still sought to impress upon the marginalizing and sectarian constructions that subjugated gays to an imposed peripheral existence of personal and public abhorrence. The Stonewall Riot of 1969 signaled the start of a substantial social movement, the dissemination of which would permeate the gay community and call into action an assault on the mechanisms of social order, public legislation and cultural dispositions that sustained a framework of persecution against homosexual men and women. The efforts of gay liberation activists during the sexual revolution of the late twentieth century made possible the near expulsion of constraints on sexual expression and gave way to a new rhetoric of pride and affirmation. For some gay men and women, just being a homosexual in the late 20th century meant being a part of the movement– no political agenda necessary. With the legalization of same sex marriage, as well as, the continuation of the gay rights movement, several groups are starting to question, are humans born gay, straight, or did they choose to be that way? Scientists, conservatives, as well as the LGBTQ community have been arguing about this controversy for several years. For the LGBTQ community, pop culture has played a huge aspect in the "born this way" movement. Songs like Macklemore's "Same Love' and Lady Gaga's Born this way" have empowered activism, as well as, the "born this way" ideology. For conservative religious groups, conservative politicians, and even some parts of the LGBTQ community the "chose this way" ideology can be a touchy subject. Hence Zarathustra's struggle to affirm his past while pursuing a self–creating future. The aim of this paper is threefold. First, I will provide evidence for the interpretation of The Prophet as an elucidation of the struggle of Nietzsche's protagonist to reconcile this inalienable relationship between the past and the future. In doing so, I will focus on three main facets of the passage, namely, the prophet, Zarathustra's dream and, the misinterpretation of the dream by the disciple. Second, I will demonstrate how The Prophet can simultaneously be interpreted so as to advance Nietzsche's own view of human nature as self–creativity. Third, I will explicate what ramifications my interpretations of The Prophet has on the relationship between Nietzsche and his reader. The Inalienable Relationship Between the Past and the Future The Prophet begins with Zarathustra being told that "Everything is empty, everything is one, everything is past!". One could counter argue that God is not dead because church and religion is still very active in today's society. So much of our thinking revolves around God and truth. When we lose religion... "The more mistrust, the more philosophy" (Nietzsche 204). What Nietzsche means by this is that the more we question the theory of religion, (Buddhism and Christianity) the more knowledge we will gain about ourselves and the world. It is not merely pessimism, but having the ability to laugh at the notion of "man against the world' for man is a vital part of the world (Nietzsche 204). And while the children of the future sees the world as ungodly, immoral, and inhuman, they do not see it as being worthless. The idea of obeying and being commanded by a god comes from religion. Some people are afraid of not believing in anything. They need some kind of faith, so they are willing to be commanded. According to Nietzsche, free spirits are people who have not been convicted or has broken away from the idea that in order to be a believer and have the Christian notion of faith, they need to be commanded. • 31. What Is The Moral Of Spoke Zebra If a zebra is marked with a big red "X", not only does the herd outcast it but it is also the likely candidate to be the lion's meal. Being in a herd seems beneficial for survival but it comes with costs that may not be worth it. In Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Friedrich Nietzsche, Zarathustra describes being part of a herd, along with many other actions, as life–denying. His concerns are ethics and living well. In the prologue, Nietzsche tells the story of how Zarathustra went up a mountain and spent ten years there gaining wisdom on life; he then descends to share his wisdom, but the people laugh at him and he comes to realize that they did not and would not take him seriously because they were too far gone with old beliefs and ways. One does not achieve one and move to the next but rather, one works on achieving them all. They are set up to have equal importance; there is no hierarchy. All of his claims are correlative and will bring about a well–lived life, there is no doubt about that. Nietzsche's perspective on the quality of life people are currently living is accurate meaning that he understand what he is proclaiming when he states his ideas on how to better it. His goal is to encourage those who are willing to hear him, to be creative, free, self–fulfilling individuals. • 32. The Views On Gay Marriage Many individuals throughout the world are being discriminated against or physically abused based on their sexual orientation, and because they don't fit the "norm" of everyday people. Gay individuals are looked at with hatred from various cultures, and right now they are struggling for the right to legally marry, regardless of what other people's views. Partner is a term people use for homosexual couples, instead of using wife or husband. Many citizens of America view homosexuals in either scientific terms, or a biblical/stereotypical perspective. These two varying points make gay marriage a controversial topic, which is discussed among thousands of different people everyday. When viewing the two sides, it can be difficult choice to choose which one is more logical, but in this paper, all sides will be reviewed with evidence from different sources. Looking at the scientific outlook of this topic, these thinkers view homosexuals with love and respect, and most who support this cause are activists for many other important issues. The three crucial stances activists fight for go as follows; It is not a choice for Gay people to decide their sexual orientation, traditional marriage has already been redefined by societal change, and being homosexual is a natural occurrence in nature. On the other hand, there are people who oppose all three standpoints. This is the religious side of the subject, which goes off biblical preachings. They feel God sees homosexuals as an ... • 33. How Does Meursault Follow A Virtue Of Religion? If someone does not follow a deity, believe in a spirit, or even fear the afterlife, is he absent of morals? The writer Albert Camus wrote the novel called The Stranger as example of a character living his life believing only the rules and comforts of the physical world. The main character, Meursault, denies god's existence and frankly has no care for the matters of religion. The philosopher, Friedrich Nietzsche, states that society has been moving away towards the idea we need a god to live a contemporary life. Friedrich Nietzsche goes into more detail centralizing his points about freedom and individualism are significant leaders in this "new mindset" in his works of The Genealogy of Morals (1887) and Beyond Good and Evil (published in 1886). ... • 34. Gay Marriage Should Be Legal Gay marriage is one of the most debated and controversial issues in today's society. Everyone has his or her opinions on gay marriage, whether it is acceptable or should not be allowed. According to The Washington post, "59 percent say they support same–sex marriage while 34 percent are opposed"(Craighil, P., & Clement). While 59% of the supporting gay is a high number, however that number is skewed. There is a difference between tolerance and acceptance, but the 59% is the total of the both. People have different perspectives on gay marriage. The ones that will be in this essay are, social science against same–sex marriage, most religions against same–sex marriage, and people for it. People that approve same–sex marriage have been going up as time goes, and more people accept same–sex marriage more than ever before. • 35. Machiavelli And Love Friedrich Nietzsche's The Gay Science uses definitions and descriptions to compare love and greed and ultimately argue that love is often merely another name for greed. He contrasts 'love' as having a positive connotation, whereas 'greed' holds a negative one. But upon defining each and showing examples of love, he calls into question if the love of neighbors and love of truth and knowledge are not just another craving for possession. This desire for what is new is compared using the description of one's desire to travel to more beautiful places after living somewhere new for even just three months. Nietzsche suggests that such an unsatisfied spirit is one of greed because the person constantly wants to possess what he or she does not already ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is different from Nietzsche's approach because he does not employ definitions and descriptions as much, but rather compares the degrees of severity in the effects of both love and fear. Machiavelli begins by noting that love is "held by the tie of obligation" and thus one may break that bond if he or she faces difficulty or has a personal interest. This is then compared with fear which is "bound by the apprehension of punishment" and is, therefore, a reliable relationship. Machiavelli compares these two examples of cause and effect to emphasize that in the context of an army, it is better to be feared than loved. His use of rhetoric here makes the reader consider the outcome of different war scenarios if the leader is not feared. He proposes that an army that loves its commander may fall apart due to the frail and fickle nature of man when in the heat of battle. This is then compared to a commander who has instilled a healthy fear in his army and, as a result, has remained victorious and united in the face of war. By using these techniques, he effectively argues that the impacts of being feared are far better than those of being loved. This method of comparison is different from Nietzsche's because Machiavelli assumes the definitions of his terms and goes right ahead to showing causes and effects of love and fear. Nietzsche ... • 36. Nietzschean Values In my essay I will be discussing three topics from the Nietzschean texts The Gay Science and Thus Spoke Zarathustra. The three main topics concerning these texts that I will talk about are "the overman", "the death of God" and "the new and old sets of values". Briefly, how these three topics relate is that once God is dead, (meaning that we do not believe in him anymore), humanity will have to create new sets of values. These new sets of values will need to have our own meaning instead of looking to a metaphysical world for truth. I think that the "overman", is the men that will be able to completely abandon the old set of values and create the new ones; he is both a lawbreaker and a law–creator. First off, I want to talk about the concept ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is the man that will completely eliminate the metaphysical part of his life and move on to a new era. Nietzsche talks about the overman in his book Thus Spoke Zarathustra when he says: "I teach you the overman. Man is something that shall be overcome."(124). Additionally, Nietzsche mentions the "the overman" in another very interesting quotation saying: " Man is a rope tied between beast and overman – a rope over an abyss. A dangerous across, a dangerous on–the–way, a dangerous looking–back, a dangerous shuddering and stopping. What is great in man is that he is a bridge and not an end..." (Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, 126). This quotation tells us that the modern man is a bridge to becoming the overman but he is scared of what is on the other side. What that means, is that in order for the modern man to completely abandon the old values and to overcome the belief in God, he must cross that bridge and become the overman. This quotation explains to us in an abstract way the challenge that the modern man must overcome in order to become the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. What Is Spoke Zastra Unethical Thus Spoke Zarathustra is a philosophical work that Nietzsche wrote in an innovative way by presenting philosophy as fiction by telling a story instead of presenting it like other philosophers in a factual and informative way. Nietzsche named his character Zarathustra after the founder of the ancient Persian religion, Zoroastrianism and not founders of Western civilization religions because he wanted to show that Judeo–Christianity was flawed in their teachings and practices. The first theme that Nietzsche introduced in his work was "God is Dead" in the beginning of the story when Zarathustra met a saint who questioned him why he wanted to join humanity again when they are so imperfect and flawed, which is why he only loves God. A dangerous going–across, a dangerous wayfaring, a dangerous looking–back, a dangerous shuddering and staying still" explains that while man is mostly governed by their own animal instincts, they do have the full potential to become the Overman by overcoming the philosophical distance between themselves and the Overman. Humans' animal instincts are humans' flaws such as shallowness, prejudice, and putting faith into something else instead of themselves; this, Nietzsche feared, would lead the masses to adopt the herd mentality trait that animals possessed. Nietzsche first introduced the concept of the herd mentality in his work, The Utility and Liability of History for Life. He explained that the grazing herd is unlike humans in that they do not remember their past lives and only live in the present moment where they only focus their actions on basal activities such as eating, sleeping, and roaming around in their group. The grazing herd lives only in the moment, and they do not face any suffering or hardship; therefore, humans are envious of them and long to adapt this mentality in order not to suffer and lead content lives. However, if humanity chose to become the overman, it would not be easy, and there would be many obstacles, dangers, and sufferings they would have to face. Nonetheless, Nietzsche through Zarathustra was optimistic that humans could overcome this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Thus Spoke Zarathustra By The Nineteenth Century In the "Thus Spoke Zarathustra", written by the 19th century philosopher Nietzsche, we are presented with many sermons that are structure similar to parables from the Lutheran Bible. These sermons are given to us by the main character, Zarathustra, on our quest to find the overman (ubermench). Zarathustra uses many characters to present stories about the flaws of humanity and how we are to get better. In "Thus Spoke Zarathustra", Zarathustra uses the character of an ass (donkey) that was first presented to us through the sermon of "Talking to the kings" and plays a major role in the later novel. The Ass is used as an idol that many of Zarathustra's guests praise as a God. The utilization of the Ass as an idol of worship is Nietzsche's criticism on how Christians worship their God. In the sermon of "Talking to two kings", Zarathustra hears two men approaching where he was dwelling. He called out to them and realized that they were two kings searching for the overman. Zarathustra introduces the Ass by yelling out to the kings saying, "Strange! Strange! How does this fit together? Two kings I see–and only one ass!" (356 p2). The kings reply to Zarathustra and when he is presents himself to them, the kings are it total dismay. They explain that they are looking for the overman for he is the one higher than the lords. Zarathustra is pleased by their desire to find the overman. The kings then told Zarathustra that they plan to convey the Ass to the overman. During the time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Prologue And Part One Of The Book ' Nietzsche ' Whether the happening be good or bad, humans tend to rationalize the circumstance and make it an event that served a greater purpose. In Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Friedrich Nietzsche, Zarathustra describes this behavior, along with many others, as life denying as he was mainly concerned with ethics. The prologue tells the story of how Zarathustra went up a mountain and spent ten years there gaining wisdom; he then descends to share his wisdom but the people laugh at him and he comes to realize that they did not and would not take him seriously because they were too far gone with old beliefs. He also came to the conclusion that he did not want people who conform and do not think for themselves, or followers, but rather people who desire to go in the same direction he is going. Throughout the prologue and part one of the book Nietzsche is trying to teach those who can think for themselves about how to live well and without excuses. The prologue mainly consists of Zarathustra descending from the mountain back into the town and realizing that no one takes him seriously. Zarathustra is discouraged at first but then realizes that he was not targeting the right audience and begins again. He starts off by establishing an overman, who is someone who can affirm and embrace life completely without any excuses. Consecutively he establishes a last man, who is said to be someone who has no questions, no chaos, no creativity, and seeks comfort and security. His view of man is a cross ...
