Sharks-Personal Narrative
My heart began to beat at a rapid rate, "THUMP, THUMP, THUMP." As the scuba diving boat came to a halt, all I could see was the dark, deep, blue
ocean separating me and the island of Dhidhoofinolhu on the horizon. The day began so simple as my family and I were enjoying breakfast on the
shoreline, admiring the Maldivian sunrise, talking about the plan for the day until my father said, "We are going whale shark diving!" At that moment I
was delighted, I had always wanted to go swimming with whale sharks because they are beautiful, harmless creatures. My sister and I immediately ran
to the watersports center of the hotel, scrambling to find the right pair of flippers and scuba masks so that we could leave promptly. The boat departed
at thirteen hundred hours exactly. As I stepped onto the colorful, traditional Maldivian boat my thoughts began to run wild. As the boat began its
thirty–minute course, I also began to think about all the things that could go wrong. For example, I began to think about how a great white shark
would come up from the dark unknown and swallow me whole or bite my leg off. My thoughts were interrupted by the guide shouting, ... Show more

At this point, my heart was about to beat out of my chest. All I could think about was the manta rays and how they have poisonous tails that can kill
instantly. What completely surprised me, was how fast everyone on the boat jumped into the water including my sister, mother, and father. I was left
on the boat stressing about how one of my family members could get stung and die. My thoughts were yet again distracted by my mother shouting,
"Evy, jump in it's super cool! They are beautiful!" Of course, the captain had to join in on the conversation and try to convince me to jump, but I was not

Shark Finning Is Killing Sharks
Are you scared of sharks? Well, there is approximately 5 human deaths, shark related each year, but over 100 million sharks are killed each year by
humans. Who should really be scared? Shark finning is killing sharks and decreasing their populations to a level where they may never fully recover.
Causes for this are fishermen shark finning at a very high rate and for consumers being oblivious to the situation or what had to be done for them to eat
the shark fin soup. Sharks are being harmed by humans cutting off their fin, also known as shark finning to make a Chinese delicacy called shark fin
soup. According to http://www.stopsharkfinning.net/what–is–shark–finning/ "Shark finning is the practice of slicing off the shark's fins while the ...

Media reportings are constantly telling us about shark sightings, and when an attack does happen either blowing it out of proportions or not telling the
full story on how the human could have been at fault. Movies such as Jaws, Jurassic Shark, Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus, Hammerhead
/SharkMan, Bait, Shark Night, Sharknado and Reef are all films that delineate sharks as terrifying, horrid, oversized, and vengeful creatures that go
after humans with only the intent to kill and eat.
The three stakeholders in the shark finning situation are the consumers and fishermen which believe shark finning should not be banned and the
environmentalists which believe shark finning should be banned. Consumers believe that shark finning should not be banned because for the majority
of them they believe it is part of their culture and that it will provide health benefits which are just a myth. There is no scientific evidence proving that
shark fin will help heal or have a health benefit, but there has been evidence of high levels of mercury and toxins found in the fin. The normal
arguments on why shark finning is okay to consumers are according to http://www.stopsharkfinning.net/shark–fin–soup–facts/ "Sharks are harmful to
humans. We are better off without them.", "We live on the land. Who cares what happens in the oceans?", "Shark fin soup is a part of Chinese culture
and should not be interfered

Sharks In La Reunion
It looks like the main problem in La Reunion is that now it's being surrounded by sharks. People are having a problem with this beause before they
were able to go out in the water and swim or surf, what ever they wanted to do, but now it's surrounded by sharks which stops them from being
capable of going in the water. Many people have been killed because of the sharks, but there are still some people that decide that they want to risk
their lives and go in the water. This also causes a problem within the society because the people that choose to go in the water are disobeying any rules
that apply to the problem with the sharks. Not only that, but this can also cause people to argue with each other because everyone will have a different
opinion

White Sharks
The problem, or debate, that I have chosen for my final project is the return of White Sharks to the Atlantic coast, specifically off of Eastern
Massachusetts. Because it is more of a debate, there are both positives and negatives to this. These pertain to environment and ocean wildlife, public
safety, ecotourism, conservation, and research.
The cause of this debate comes with the return of White Sharks to the area. Over the past few years, there has been an increase of this apex predator to
our coasts like never before seen, most notably since Labor Day weekend in 2009. Five sharks had been tagged by a marine biologist, Greg Skomal,
and have been closely tracked and documented since. Skomal is a key player in this research as project leader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There are also a large number of marine biologists that track the sharks in the area, both by plane and by boat. They have successfully tagged many of
the sharks with electronics that allow scientists to monitor and track the migration of the sharks. This allows for better predictability and will help reduce
shark–human interactions. One major resource is the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy. They created an app for smart phones called "Sharktivity".
This application allows users to track and report shark sightings in real time. It will help beachgoers to predict where sharks are most likely to be

Shark Adaptations
Members of the class Chondrichthyes, subclass Elasmobranchii, have been around since the Devonian period millions of years ago. Most notable of
this group of organisms is the shark. Known for its dangerous appearance, sharks have made many adaptations to survive in aquatic environments.
The marine environment can be extremely dangerous and difficult to survive in. Sharks are faced with many challenges due to this sort of habitat,
especially in regards to oxygen. Oxygen levels in aquatic environments are very low. As sharks need oxygen to survive, they have many features to
help them adapt. Due to a lack of muscle in the mouth and gill area, they must be constantly moving to keep water moving pass the gill slits, or risk
drowning. Externally,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As there is more salt in the ocean than in the shark itself, the physiological structures of a shark need to prevent the water in the cells from osmotically
leaving. One such structure is the rectal gland, which secretes a fluid containing sodium chloride. It also helps the opisthonephric kidney regulate the
blood's salt concentration. Another important physiological element to regulate salt concentration are extracellular nitrogen compounds. One of the
most important nitrogen compounds are urea. Produced in the liver with extra amino acids, urea combines with the blood to raise blood solute
concentration until it either matches or exceeds the ocean's salt

Shark Ethical Egoism
Sharks have been feared ocean hunters ever since people first observed them swimming in the vast ocean. However, today sharks are rapidly declining
in numbers on a global scale due to humans having replaced them as the ocean's top predators. Sharks being the hunters are now being the hunted
because the controversial shark finning epidemic. Shark finning refers to how the shark has all its fins removed from the carcass and then being
thrown back into the ocean usually while still being alive. The controversy lies in how killing any shark regardless of its size or species can cause
faults in the oceanic ecosystem. Shark finning has been frowned upon by so many countries; however, there still seems to be a high demand in Asian
countries.

The moral duty is to promote the most favorable balance of good over evil for oneself. It involves the self interest of a person but not necessarily to
the detriment of others. Clearly the actions of the fishermen are only looking for their own best interest. It could be argued that they are hunting these
sharks for the interest of the few that enjoy this delicacy and not for their own personal gain. They look out for their own self interest and also for
those who love eating shark fin soup. To the eyes of the fishermen, they aren't being harmful to anyone else because there are no humans being harmed
in the process of attaining shark fins.
Unfortunately, these fishermen do not take into consideration that although they do not harm others while attaining their own self interest, they do
affect the entire species of sharks itself. Ethical egoism should not just stand for human but all living creatures. What is being done to the sharks can
be viewed as completely unethical and therefore it can be argued that the fishermen that they are indeed not acting upon ethical egoism, rather they are
acting as egotistical for their own personal gains and uncaring of what their actions do to the shark and ocean

Sharks Essay
Sharks
Sharks are one of the most feared carnivores in the sea. There are 365 species of of sharks in the sea as we know today. All sharks are carnivores.
Most of them eat live fish, including other sharks. A shark's most common natural enemy is an another shark. Most sharks eat their prey whole, or
they tear off large chunks of the bodies. Some sharks crush their prey. Others take out small pieces off flesh from large fish. Sharks also feed on dead
or dying animals. Sharks have the reputation of attacking human beings. But less than 100 shark attacks a year are reported throughout the world.
Sharks are most common in warm seas and oceans. Whale sharks, are the largest shark known to man. Sharks are classified in the order ... Show more

Their bodies are also shaped somewhat like a torpedo to give them a more streamlined affect in the in water. Yet, some types of sharks, the ocean
dwellers have a flat body similar to that of skates and rays. Sharks can travel with great bursts of speed especially when attacking their prey or when
excited. The fastest–swimming sharks have a moon–shaped tail that provides extra power and durability for swimming. Sharks don't have a swim
bladder. This is what helps regulate depth control. Sharks do not have this organ. Yet, they do have a oil organ that also acts as a gas bladder. This oil
is less dense than water and acts as a gas bladder.
A shark has multiple rows of teeth. The mouth of sharks is in the front of the head. In some species, sharks teeth are replaced as much as once a
week. Some sharks have teeth used to crush and grind. These are some what like what humans have. They also have sharp teeth. These can be
compared to incisors that humans have. These types of teeth are very important to sharks because they are carnivores and depend on their teeth in
order to eat their prey. A sharks body in covered by scales which cover their bodies. These scales make the skin of a shark very rough and strong.
Sharks have a very different breathing system than most animals that live in or on this earth. Sharks also receive oxygen from the water through gills,

The Cameron Shark : The Characteristics Of The Greenland...
Deep in the depths of the Arctic Ocean, there lives a bizarre creature. This creature can grow 21 feet long (the same size as an adult great white shark!),
and can weigh 2,000 pounds. This monster of the deep is the Greenland Shark. Although this massive creature seems like a monster, humans actually
rarely come in contact with it, making this shark even more elusive. Surprisingly, this shark is actually very important, let's find out why.
Even though the Greenland shark sounds like a horrible beast, one could even say it looks kind of cute. This shark sports a round, tubular body,
like a torpedo. Like I mentioned earlier, the Greenland shark is massive, though in appearance it looks very innocent. One part of it's innocent
look is the fact that it has unusually small fins in proportion to the rest of its body, as well as a short wide tail that is capable of short acceleration
bursts. Besides short fins, the Greenland shark also has very diverse coloring. The body can be slate grey, purplish grey, violet, brown or even black.
Individual sharks can often be identified by the varied patterns on their sides, more common patterns include a purple tint, white spots, or dark bands.
These sharks are known to swim at depths of 600 to 2,400 feet during the summer. Because these sharks live at depths where there is little light, they
have small eyes that contain spiracles above and behind them. Spiracles are small respiratory openings, or pores, that help an animal to breathe. Of

The Three Senses Of Sharks
–Most predator sharks are long and round. Every shark is shaped for the type of water they live in.
–Angelsharks are flat so they can hide on the sea floor.
–Horn sharks have sharp spines on their backs
–Megamouths have huge soft blubbery lips.
–Hammerhead sharks (as said in their name) have a head shaped like a hammer, which makes them look like a swimming T.
–Sawsharks have long pointy, sharp snouts.
–Large sharks, like the whale shark or the Basking shark, are as big as a bus.
–Some very tiny sharks such as the pygmy shark or the Colombian lantern shark can fit on top of your hand.
–Goblin sharks has a very strange long snout like a long horn, it is said that these goblin sharks have lived since the dinosaur age; people have found
fossils of a shark similar to the goblin shark that had lived about 125 million years ago.

The senses are hearing, smell, lateral line, pit organs, vision, Lorenzini, touch, and taste. Sharks have many senses that us humans do such as taste and
smell, but it has special three senses that we do not have. The lateral line, pit organs and Lorenzini are the three senses that have been discovered in the
last 10 – 20 years, and play an important role in how the shark behaves when swimming around. The six senses which shark use very essentially for
looking and hunting prey prey are – Smell, Eyesight, Electrosense(sense of electricity), Water Pressure, Hearing and Taste. Two thirds of a shark's
brain is devoted to smell.
–Sharks can distinguish one drop of blood in a million drops of water, 1/4th of a mile away. Water constantly flows through their nostrils, giving them
olfactory information. Sharks have colour vision and see well in dark light. It is said that sharks use the ampullae of Lorenzini as a directing device to
swim by the earth's magnetic field. The lateral line is a sense organ used to detect movement and pulsation in the water. The sharks pit organs are used
to detect temperature

Shark Finning Is The Removal Of The Shark
Every year there are thousands and millions of sharks dying in the ocean simply, because of a soup? Not a soup that makes you feel or look any
younger, nor does it cure a sickness, but because of a delicacy. Sharks are at a high demand mainly in East Asia. Shark Finning is the removal of the
shark's fins while they are still alive and throwing the rest of its body back in the ocean where it takes a painful death. Seeing that sharks are on top
of the ecosystem, their population is also decreasing. Given the way they are being caught, which is clearly a form of animal cruelty, therefore the
practice of shark finning must be banned.
The shark fin soup was said to be created in China during the Sung Dynasty (AD 986), where the emperor used the dish as a symbol of class and
wealth. While catching sharks were difficult throughout that time, it made the soup even more of a popular delicacy. The soup is a thickened broth
made with either chicken or ham broth. The price of each bowl varies from $100 to $1000 depending on the form and elegance of shark fin served.
However it is served, it is a symbolic way of showing stature.
Now a days, it is being served during special occasions, like traditional Asian dinner banquets, weddings, or even at restaurants. It has become almost
as easy as buying a turkey for thanksgiving, but only this seafood dish has no taste and no nutritional value. With the easy access that the fishermen's
have, sharks are being over–fished and Poachers are

Thresher sharks inhabit the coastal waters and oceans far from land, from the surface to the oceans that is almost at depths of at least 366 meters.
When thresher sharks are young they are often found closer to the shore and in shallow areas more than as adult. Theses sharks are normally found to
roam in the Pacific and Indian oceans. The exact habitat of the thresher shark is nearly impossible to locate.

All sharks are dangerous at one end of there body but the thresher shark is a force to be reckoned with at both ends of its body. With a tail that can
swing up to 80 mph the thresher has made this ability its main way to hunt food. These sharks can build surprising speed of about 30mph to catch its

Shark Finning Should Stop The Sharks
Shark finning should stop. Shark poaching or finning has been going on for a while to make a dish called "shark fin soup". People who eat that
most likely don't know what happens to make it. Poachers catch the sharks, and put them on their boats and hold them down while they cut all of
their fins off. The worst part is once they're done, they drop them back into the water and make them suffer as they lose tons of blood, and later
suffocate or be eaten by other animals. It makes me feel sorry for all of those sharks that went through this, and some people might say that poaching
is justified for sharks because they kill people, but what they don't understand is that they are animals, and it is just instinct. You don't blame cats for
killing birds do you? They are known for killing. Movies have put that straight. That's why I want to help stop this inhumane act on poor innocent
creatures that don't even know that they are doing something that is considered "wrong". "Remember, 10 people a year are killed by sharks, but 3
sharks are killed every second by humans."(Stop Shark Finning.Net–no specific author). Sharks are being murdered every second for the result of
shark fin soup. Sharks don't deserve this. It is torture for them, and all we want out of this painful experience is soup. Why do they need to kill so
many? Well, apparently the requests for shark fin soup is growing. But, I believe the demand for the shark population to survive should be bigger.

oxygen production. This is a world without the most feared and misunderstood creature that rules our oceans, the Shark. In an advertisement published
by WWF, it conveys the message of what we should actually be fearing, the fall of our marine ecosystems and what that will do to humanity. The
advertisement uses all three appeals of ethos, pathos, and logos to push their targeted audience to further their education on our world and to spread the

Shark Conservation : The Dangers Of Shark Conservation
Governments and the public are at a critical point in terms of conservation. Many of the worlds species are at threat and without adjustments of
legislation and actions this trend will continue. Sharks unfortunately are a species that are at high risk due to the actions of humans. Yet until recently
they weren't given very much attention. So now that the public is aware that something is going wrong with sharks what can they do to change it. The
public could start with simple things to just become more environmentally friendly. They could recycle their plastics, try to reduce their contribution to
climate change and become more educated about sharks. The next step they could take is donating to a well–recognized organization that works towards
shark conservation. Perhaps the biggest thing that the public can do is to advocate to governments to make stricter regulations for the oceans. Since so
much of the ocean is unregulated there is a lot of unknown activates going on that could be negatively impacting sharks. This needs to be regulated and
it needs to happen soon or else there will be no sharks left in these areas. This can be done through joining advocate groups, writing letters, voting in
parties that are more environmentally orated, and educating people about the effect they are having on shark populations.
Another bug way that the public can help shark conservation is to say no to shark products. Don't order shark fin soup well on vacation or where it is
available.

What do you think of when you hear the word "Shark"? Do you think of the lion of the ocean or perhaps God's perfect predator/scavenger? Perhaps

animals and even inanimate objects. They have found license plates in the stomach of a Tiger Shark. Because of its discernment regarding food,
this shark is one of the most dangerous ones for human attacks. The Sand Tiger Shark, not to be confused with the Tiger Shark, even though large,

The Blue Shark prefers the deep, cooler waters of the tropical and temperate oceans. They can give birth to large litters from 25 to 100 pups at one

Persuasive Essay On Shark Culling
Fish 1and chips, messed up ecosystems and broken food chain. Why do we have to cull our beautiful sharks that have done no harm to us? I have
conducted a research about shark culling and why people do this. I strongly disagree to shark culling. I mainly think that we should just keep an eye
out on the sharks in the ocean. They only mistake us a seals and eat us. We should all incorporate and help increase the population of sharks again.
Now why do people cull sharks and how can we prevent this? What does shark culling affect?
Whenever you go to the Fish and Chips shop, have you heard about "Flake"? Flakes are a type of shark. They have been killed just for us to eat.
The price of them are also increasing. At least 100 million sharks are killed every year. In Eastern parts of Asia, Sharks were being culled for shark
fin soup. Dragging out the sharks out of the ocean and cutting off their fins and throwing their dead body back into the ocean is unacceptable. How
would you feel if we were dragged out of our home by a random person, got our arm cut off and got put back into our home again? I'm sure that we
would all be horrified and terrified by this. It is said that Shark Fin Soup costs around $100 per bowl of soup. There are also some countries that have
completely banned shark culling. They are Israel, Ecuador, Mexico, Egypt, Indonesia, Fiji and so on. It is very unfortunate that Australia isn't a part of
this. Sharks also help with ecosystems.

One of them being a camouflaged wetsuit or surfboard graphics. These scientific patterns essentially make people invisible to the sharks due to the
inability that sharks have of seeing colors. Using these patterns on your wetsuit in conjunction with the bottom of your board will make it harder for the
shark to identify you. Another great invention that prevents shark attacks is called The Clever Buoy. The Clever Buoy uses sonar, a system for the
detection of objects under water by emitting sound pulses and detecting their return after being reflected, to detect the size and swimming pattern of a

Evolution Of Sharks Essay
Abstract In the modern world it is known by many people that over the course of Earth's existence it has changed dramatically. This also applies to
the creatures that inhabit Earth, they have all evolved over the course of their existence. Sharks have been roaming the earth for over 450 million
years, in this extensive time period, there have been many things that have changed since modern day. There are many different reasons on why the
evolved, and also how sharks managed to completely change themselves in the course of 450 million years. The life for a shark millions of years ago is
going to be a lot different than if they were in the modern world, and this goes for all creatures on earth, because they evolve and adapt to the constant
changing world. There are many different traits in sharks right now than there were myrietes ago. Humans have only been in contact with sharks for a

Shark Conservation Essay
Shark Conservation
Abstract
Arising over 350 million years ago, the shark species has been labeled as a human devourer. Now, with the increase in human population, the demand
for shark meat, fins, and cartilage are at an all time high; therefore, the existence of the shark is becoming a concern (Budker 1971). Individuals are
conditioned to think of sharks as a negative aspect to the environment, which is prolonging the effort to save shark species from becoming extinct. With
that in mind, some private as well as national organizations have accepted the challenge of educating and informing people about the existence of the
shark specie and its importance to the sea.

Shark mating rituals vary from the size of the shark and its specie. In smaller, more flexible species, the male coils around the female, while the male
of the larger specie orients himself parallel and head–to–head with the female (Woums & Demski 1993). Some species mating rituals also consists of
males biting females on the pectoral fins or the middle of the back to hold on to them (Woums & Demski 1993). The female will often bear scars
or marks, after the ordeal. Due to the fact that sharks are cold blooded animals, there is no precise gestation time. The development of the embryo
will depend solely on the temperature of the water, however, the gestation period can last anywhere from 2 months to 2 years (Woums & Demski
1993). Within shark species there are two methods of reproduction. In some cases a female shark will lay eggs in a coastal nursery where the
presence of other sharks are absent. And in other cases, usually in the larger sharks, females give birth to live offspring (Wourms & Demski 1993). In
which case the young are born fully developed, and once they are born they shoot away fast or they risk being eaten.
Adapted for a wide range of aquatic habitats, various shark species inhabit shallow coastal habitats, deep–water ocean floor habitats, and the open
ocean. With a wide selection to feed off of, as a whole the shark species feed on just about everything. Their diet consists of fish,

The things that sharks are being killed for is sickening. So far, humans have decimated about 90 percent of the world's shark populations for the sake
of shark tooth jewelry and jaws that tourists buy in massive quantities, sharkskin accessories, phony medicines made from their cartilage, and a huge
range of cosmetics, deodorants, moisturizers, sun tan lotions, and lip balms that use shark liver oil as a base because it makes our skin soft. (Check

Sharks
Do you ever wonder what the scariest animal is? There are many different animals, but the most feared is the shark. They are the most unique
creatures in the ocean. They have hundreds of teeth in their mouth which make them seem scary. When sharks lose their teeth, there is always
another tooth to replace it. Sharks have been around for more than 75,000,000 years. They are located all over the world. There are more than 300
species of sharks. These creatures have many talents and are very intelligent. I am not afraid of sharks because they are helpful to the environment,
they can spit garbage out, and sharks are protective of their homes just like we are.
The first reason I do not fear sharks is because sharks help the environment. Sharks keep our oceans balanced in many ways. They eat the rays that eat
our California scallops, they eat fish to keep them from growing out of population, and more. However, some people fear sharks because of their
great big teeth and feeding habits. If sharks smell blood they go into a feeding frenzy, which makes them eat everything in their path. Or, if they
smell of urine they will go crazy. If I were you, I would think twice before peeing in the water. When sharks jump out of water they tend to roll their
eyes back into their head, so their eyes don't burn. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Effects Of Sharks On The World 's Ocean Without Those...
Sympathy for JAWS Sharks are known as one of the deadliest creatures in the aquatic ecosystem, but what would happen in the world's ocean without
those sharks? The depopulation of sharks is increasing dramatically due to human impacts. If this continues, it will negatively impact all aspects of
ocean life and environment (Ferretti et al, 2010). The depopulation of a creature so high on the aquatic food chain can lead to the overpopulation of
other organisms, which causes a domino effect on all creatures in the ocean. This could either rapidly increase or decrease their population, altering the
food chain altogether (Ferretti et al, 2010). Focusing on how the population decreases is the only way to prevent it. Elaborating on the over–fishing of
such important creatures, as well as the negative effects that go along with depopulation, is the most proficient way to relay the message of these
processes being such an issue. It is remarkable how important one sea creature can be to the entirety of the oceanic food chain as well as to the
aquatic ecosystem as a whole. When some people think of, they think of JAWS, not many people take into consideration how important large sharks'
roles are in the ocean. For example, focusing on the biology of sharks helps to further inform people about the basic background and information of
what some may perceive to be as monsters. It is known that sharks have a very slow reproduction rate, taking around two years to birth very few pups,

Shark Attack Scenarios
Have you ever been in a dangerous life or death situation? It may not have been life or death, but even just going camping you have to make a fire
and build shelter to survive. These three people were in a life or death situation and used their unique characteristics to survive. In the news interview
"Young Girl Tells Tale ofShark Attack", Bethany Hamilton talks about the incident where her arm bit off by a shark. Also, in a seminar given by
Hyeonseo Lee, "My Escape from North Korea" she tells the story of how she and her family escaped from punishment in their home country. Lastly,
Aron Ralston wrote in his article "Trapped" about how he got stuck under a rock while climbing for six days. As shown in the three aforementioned
articles, these people have calmness, courage, and determination which allowed them to survive their situations.
Bethany Hamilton had amazing calmness which helped her survive the incident where the shark bit off her arm. In paragraph nine of the news
interview she says "I think I figured out that, like if I panicked then things wouldn't go as good as if I was calm." Even after going through something
as traumatic as a shark attack, she still is able to keep herself level–headed. If she hadn't been able to keep herself calm she might've started

Evolution Of Sharks Essay
Amongst the many living creatures of the aquatic world lurks an evolutionary advanced species called Selachimorpha, commonly known as Sharks.
Sharks are the most dominantly feared creatures of the marine world. Although they are perceived as a threat to humans, these animals keep marine
organisms in check. Sharks have developed a unique physical structure that enables them to efficiently hunt prey while simultaneously playing a vital
role in balancing the ecosystem. These apex predators fall under the classification class Chondrichthyes, which is comprised of cartilaginous skeleton.
Chondrichthyes is sub–divided into two classes; the Elasmobranchii, composed of sharks, skates and rays, and the Holocephali ("Shark Taxonomy" 8).
As we move further down the scientific classification, identifying these similar looking creatures become more difficult. Their order is separated into
two super–orders, which are the extinct Cladoselachimorph and the Euselachii; composed of 12 orders of which only nine are amongst us today
(9). Many scientists believe that sharks descended from an eyeless, finless, and boneless leaf shaped fish and that they came to existence at around
400 million years ago ("Shark Evolution" 1). Documented fossil records show that there were over 3,000 types of sharks and may have existed at the
same period of time (Jones, "The Epic History of Sharks"). The reason it is difficult to discover them all is due to the rotting of the cartilaginous bone
structure ("Shark

Unluckily, after many rescue and first aid attempts to stop the bleeding he passed away at the scene. Most killings triggered by shark incidents are
from blood loss as arteries are frequently shattered. The distress and fright the bystanders would've sensed that day from the attack would
encourage them to believe killing the Great White is the best clarification. 'This shark has tasted human flesh and will kill again. This 'rogue' shark
must be hunted down and killed so that our beaches are safe' (SACE Stage 2 , n.d.). However, as a personal opinion; I believe the Great White
Shark should be conserved as there is no real advantage if its shot. The attack itself is such a rare event, it tends to only be one or two bites, and
consequently scientists believe it a fault when these incidents/attacks happen. 'Shark attacks on humans only occur when the shark mistakes us for their
normal prey of seals and dolphins and then, realising their mistake, sense us by their bite and spit us out' another reason why they are attacking us is
because us humans are swimming in their environment which they call home and they are just protecting themselves just like we protect ourselves
from danger. (SACE Stage 2 ,

Misconceptions About Sharks
1 Lots of people seem to have misconceptions about sharks; they're man–eating killing machines, they're aggressive towards humans; they're
unimportant to the ocean's ecosystem. I highly disagree with these notions. In fact, I believe sharks are one of the greatest animals on the planet.
Despite the stigma surrounding sharks and their history in Hollywood movies (see: Jaws, Sharknado, Deep Blue Sea, etc), sharks actually aren't very
aggressive towards humans at all. Statistics show that youhave approximately a 1 in 3,748,067 chance of being attacked by a shark in your LIFETIME.
Compare that to your chance of dying from fireworks (1 in 340,733), getting struck by lightning (1 in 79,746), or dying in a car accident (1 in 645).
Let's say, theoretically, you DO get attacked... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Experts say sharks rarely ever attack humans unprovoked. Most shark attacks are caused by mistaken identity, meaning they mistook you for a seal or
a turtle, a shark's prey (see below). Sharks also investigate things by bumping it with their snout, or by putting it in their mouth. This is what causes
"hit–and–runs" – the shark takes a bite and disappears. This is because the shark realized you weren't prey, or that you even tasted good. Shark
attacks are also uncommonly fatal. According to statistics, only about 7% of shark attacks end in death. The three species of shark that are the most
common perpetrators behind shark attacks are: the bull shark, tiger shark and great white, in that order. This isn't to say that those particular species
are more aggressive or dangerous than other species. Unlike, say, lemon sharks, bulls, tigers and great whites are more likely to encounter a human.
Statistics show that beaches with more visitors each year have more shark attacks. For example, Florida sees around 90 million tourists each year,
whereas North Carolina only gets about 50 million. Guess which state has more shark attacks? The more people in the water, the higher the chance of a

A Study On Shark Tank
Since 2009, the renowned reality show, Shark Tank, has been giving small business entrepreneurs hope– allowing them to achieve dreams which
previously appeared impossible. In this television show, five multi–millionaire and billionaire investors, known as "sharks", invest their time and money
into small businesses which they believe will succeed with their expertise. Each entrepreneur who enters the "Shark Tank" must attempt to convince
these "sharks" that their business is worth their investment. If the entrepreneurs succeed, the "sharks" may battle between each other so that they can
partake in this business. However, not every entrepreneur receives an offer. Only those with the greatest ideas and business plans receive investment
offers from the "sharks". The mission was to determine whether author Lisa Lenzo has what it takes for Shark Tank. Is she motivated to make her
business succeed? Does her business address an ongoing problem or need? Would her business thrive and grow with the help of a "shark"? As a part
of my search, I had the privilege of attending a contemporary writers' presentation from Lisa. She shared her personal story explaining why writing is
important to her and the reason she began writing. It was through this presentation that I discovered whether or not Lisa was the right candidate for
Shark Tank.
If you want to be on Shark Tank, you have to be a motivated entrepreneur. You have to be willing to acknowledge your downfalls, learn from

Shark Finning Research Paper
Due to the biological and ecological characteristics of sharks, they present an array of issues and challenges for fishery management and conservation.
Many shark species are characterized by relatively late maturity, have slow growth and low reproductive rates (as they are Apex Predators), which can
make them extremely vulnerable to overexploitation. Concern has grown over the past few years regarding the status of shark stocks and the
sustainability of their numbers in the world of fisheries. As the demand for shark products such as shark fin soup increases, the number of shark's
species begin to decline as a result of the current trend.

How Sharks Hunt
Ever wonder how Sharks are known as one of the best hunters in the sea? Find out in this essay about the hunting life of sharks. Sharks are one of the
most unique species in the seas, especially for hunting, they have specialized teeth, nostrils, and even have specialized cells and chemicals in their
body to help them function. With their senses they can smell blood from miles away, once theshark is in the process of looking for the source of the
blood, they use their smelling as a gps to give them directions in where to find it. Although we would expect that sharks live in one area to make sure
they eat the right fish, they actually in many different types of climates like tropical sharks, polar sharks, and temperate sharks. Sharks eat many
different types of small fishes like krill, one of the smallest fishes in the sea, also seals, and sea lions, it all depends on the surrounds or climates that

Marine biologists use many different research methods in order to study sharks. But the most common one is tagging. "Tags are an important tool used

Due to overexploitation and lack of proper management, many shark species are under considerable risk of unrecoverable decline with some
species having declined to near extinction in recent years. According to reports, sharks are being killed at an alarming rate of up to 273 million
worldwide per year. Some experts predict that if the killing continues at the current rate many species will be lost forever with potentially devastating
implications for our ocean ecosystems. If shark population is threatened, it could take a very long time to recover. Sharks are a keystone species
which means they are at the top of the food chain and are an apex predator. Removing them could make the whole structure collapse. Sharks regulate
the behavior of prey species, and prevent them from over–grazing vital habitats. Some shark researchers believe that the intimidation factor caused by
sharks may actually have more of an impact on the ecosystem than what sharks actually eat. For example, scientists in Hawaii found that tiger sharks
had a positive impact on the health of sea grass beds. Turtles, which are the tiger sharks' prey, graze on sea grass. In the absence of tiger sharks, the
turtles spent all of their time grazing on the best quality, most nutritious sea grass, and these habitats were soon destroyed. When tiger sharks

Sharks-Personal Narrative

  • 1. Sharks-Personal Narrative My heart began to beat at a rapid rate, "THUMP, THUMP, THUMP." As the scuba diving boat came to a halt, all I could see was the dark, deep, blue ocean separating me and the island of Dhidhoofinolhu on the horizon. The day began so simple as my family and I were enjoying breakfast on the shoreline, admiring the Maldivian sunrise, talking about the plan for the day until my father said, "We are going whale shark diving!" At that moment I was delighted, I had always wanted to go swimming with whale sharks because they are beautiful, harmless creatures. My sister and I immediately ran to the watersports center of the hotel, scrambling to find the right pair of flippers and scuba masks so that we could leave promptly. The boat departed at thirteen hundred hours exactly. As I stepped onto the colorful, traditional Maldivian boat my thoughts began to run wild. As the boat began its thirty–minute course, I also began to think about all the things that could go wrong. For example, I began to think about how a great white shark would come up from the dark unknown and swallow me whole or bite my leg off. My thoughts were interrupted by the guide shouting, ... What completely surprised me, was how fast everyone on the boat jumped into the water including my sister, mother, and father. I was left on the boat stressing about how one of my family members could get stung and die. My thoughts were yet again distracted by my mother shouting, "Evy, jump in it's super cool! They are beautiful!" Of course, the captain had to join in on the conversation and try to convince me to jump, but I was not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Shark Finning Is Killing Sharks Are you scared of sharks? Well, there is approximately 5 human deaths, shark related each year, but over 100 million sharks are killed each year by humans. Who should really be scared? Shark finning is killing sharks and decreasing their populations to a level where they may never fully recover. Causes for this are fishermen shark finning at a very high rate and for consumers being oblivious to the situation or what had to be done for them to eat the shark fin soup. Sharks are being harmed by humans cutting off their fin, also known as shark finning to make a Chinese delicacy called shark fin soup. Movies such as Jaws, Jurassic Shark, Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus, Hammerhead /SharkMan, Bait, Shark Night, Sharknado and Reef are all films that delineate sharks as terrifying, horrid, oversized, and vengeful creatures that go after humans with only the intent to kill and eat. The three stakeholders in the shark finning situation are the consumers and fishermen which believe shark finning should not be banned and the environmentalists which believe shark finning should be banned. Consumers believe that shark finning should not be banned because for the majority of them they believe it is part of their culture and that it will provide health benefits which are just a myth. There is no scientific evidence proving that shark fin will help heal or have a health benefit, but there has been evidence of high levels of mercury and toxins found in the fin. The normal arguments on why shark finning is okay to consumers are according to http://www.stopsharkfinning.net/shark–fin–soup–facts/ "Sharks are harmful to humans. People are having a problem with this beause before they were able to go out in the water and swim or surf, what ever they wanted to do, but now it's surrounded by sharks which stops them from being capable of going in the water. Many people have been killed because of the sharks, but there are still some people that decide that they want to risk their lives and go in the water. This also causes a problem within the society because the people that choose to go in the water are disobeying any rules that apply to the problem with the sharks. Because it is more of a debate, there are both positives and negatives to this. These pertain to environment and ocean wildlife, public safety, ecotourism, conservation, and research. The cause of this debate comes with the return of White Sharks to the area. Over the past few years, there has been an increase of this apex predator to our coasts like never before seen, most notably since Labor Day weekend in 2009. Five sharks had been tagged by a marine biologist, Greg Skomal, and have been closely tracked and documented since. Skomal is a key player in this research as project leader ... They have successfully tagged many of the sharks with electronics that allow scientists to monitor and track the migration of the sharks. They created an app for smart phones called "Sharktivity". This application allows users to track and report shark sightings in real time. Most notable of this group of organisms is the shark. Known for its dangerous appearance, sharks have made many adaptations to survive in aquatic environments. The marine environment can be extremely dangerous and difficult to survive in. Sharks are faced with many challenges due to this sort of habitat, especially in regards to oxygen. Oxygen levels in aquatic environments are very low. As sharks need oxygen to survive, they have many features to help them adapt. • 9. The Cameron Shark : The Characteristics Of The Greenland... Deep in the depths of the Arctic Ocean, there lives a bizarre creature. This creature can grow 21 feet long (the same size as an adult great white shark!), and can weigh 2,000 pounds. This monster of the deep is the Greenland Shark. Although this massive creature seems like a monster, humans actually rarely come in contact with it, making this shark even more elusive. Surprisingly, this shark is actually very important, let's find out why. Even though the Greenland shark sounds like a horrible beast, one could even say it looks kind of cute. This shark sports a round, tubular body, like a torpedo. Like I mentioned earlier, the Greenland shark is massive, though in appearance it looks very innocent. One part of it's innocent look is the fact that it has unusually small fins in proportion to the rest of its body, as well as a short wide tail that is capable of short acceleration bursts. Because these sharks live at depths where there is little light, they have small eyes that contain spiracles above and behind them. Spiracles are small respiratory openings, or pores, that help an animal to breathe. Of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Shark Finning Is The Removal Of The Shark Every year there are thousands and millions of sharks dying in the ocean simply, because of a soup? Not a soup that makes you feel or look any younger, nor does it cure a sickness, but because of a delicacy. Sharks are at a high demand mainly in East Asia. Shark Finning is the removal of the shark's fins while they are still alive and throwing the rest of its body back in the ocean where it takes a painful death. Seeing that sharks are on top of the ecosystem, their population is also decreasing. Given the way they are being caught, which is clearly a form of animal cruelty, therefore the practice of shark finning must be banned. The shark fin soup was said to be created in China during the Sung Dynasty (AD 986), where the emperor used the dish as a symbol of class and wealth. While catching sharks were difficult throughout that time, it made the soup even more of a popular delicacy. The soup is a thickened broth made with either chicken or ham broth. The price of each bowl varies from $100 to $1000 depending on the form and elegance of shark fin served. However it is served, it is a symbolic way of showing stature. Now a days, it is being served during special occasions, like traditional Asian dinner banquets, weddings, or even at restaurants. • 13. Shark Finning Should Stop The Sharks Shark finning should stop. Shark poaching or finning has been going on for a while to make a dish called "shark fin soup". People who eat that most likely don't know what happens to make it. Poachers catch the sharks, and put them on their boats and hold them down while they cut all of their fins off. The worst part is once they're done, they drop them back into the water and make them suffer as they lose tons of blood, and later suffocate or be eaten by other animals. It makes me feel sorry for all of those sharks that went through this, and some people might say that poaching is justified for sharks because they kill people, but what they don't understand is that they are animals, and it is just instinct. You don't blame cats for killing birds do you? They are known for killing. Movies have put that straight. That's why I want to help stop this inhumane act on poor innocent creatures that don't even know that they are doing something that is considered "wrong". "Remember, 10 people a year are killed by sharks, but 3 sharks are killed every second by humans."(Stop Shark Finning.Net–no specific author). Sharks are being murdered every second for the result of shark fin soup. Sharks don't deserve this. It is torture for them, and all we want out of this painful experience is soup. • 15. Shark Conservation : The Dangers Of Shark Conservation Governments and the public are at a critical point in terms of conservation. Many of the worlds species are at threat and without adjustments of legislation and actions this trend will continue. Sharks unfortunately are a species that are at high risk due to the actions of humans. Yet until recently they weren't given very much attention. So now that the public is aware that something is going wrong with sharks what can they do to change it. The public could start with simple things to just become more environmentally friendly. They could recycle their plastics, try to reduce their contribution to climate change and become more educated about sharks. The next step they could take is donating to a well–recognized organization that works towards shark conservation. Perhaps the biggest thing that the public can do is to advocate to governments to make stricter regulations for the oceans. Since so much of the ocean is unregulated there is a lot of unknown activates going on that could be negatively impacting sharks. This needs to be regulated and it needs to happen soon or else there will be no sharks left in these areas. This can be done through joining advocate groups, writing letters, voting in parties that are more environmentally orated, and educating people about the effect they are having on shark populations. • 17. Persuasive Essay On Shark Culling Fish 1and chips, messed up ecosystems and broken food chain. Why do we have to cull our beautiful sharks that have done no harm to us? I have conducted a research about shark culling and why people do this. I strongly disagree to shark culling. I mainly think that we should just keep an eye out on the sharks in the ocean. In Eastern parts of Asia, Sharks were being culled for shark fin soup. Dragging out the sharks out of the ocean and cutting off their fins and throwing their dead body back into the ocean is unacceptable. How would you feel if we were dragged out of our home by a random person, got our arm cut off and got put back into our home again? I'm sure that we would all be horrified and terrified by this. It is said that Shark Fin Soup costs around $100 per bowl of soup. There are also some countries that have completely banned shark culling. • 23. Shark Conservation Essay Shark Conservation Abstract Arising over 350 million years ago, the shark species has been labeled as a human devourer. Now, with the increase in human population, the demand for shark meat, fins, and cartilage are at an all time high; therefore, the existence of the shark is becoming a concern (Budker 1971). Individuals are conditioned to think of sharks as a negative aspect to the environment, which is prolonging the effort to save shark species from becoming extinct. With that in mind, some private as well as national organizations have accepted the challenge of educating and informing people about the existence of the shark specie and its importance to the sea. In smaller, more flexible species, the male coils around the female, while the male of the larger specie orients himself parallel and head–to–head with the female (Woums & Demski 1993). Some species mating rituals also consists of males biting females on the pectoral fins or the middle of the back to hold on to them (Woums & Demski 1993). The female will often bear scars or marks, after the ordeal. Due to the fact that sharks are cold blooded animals, there is no precise gestation time. The development of the embryo will depend solely on the temperature of the water, however, the gestation period can last anywhere from 2 months to 2 years (Woums & Demski 1993). Within shark species there are two methods of reproduction. In some cases a female shark will lay eggs in a coastal nursery where the presence of other sharks are absent. And in other cases, usually in the larger sharks, females give birth to live offspring (Wourms & Demski 1993). In which case the young are born fully developed, and once they are born they shoot away fast or they risk being eaten. Adapted for a wide range of aquatic habitats, various shark species inhabit shallow coastal habitats, deep–water ocean floor habitats, and the open ocean. With a wide selection to feed off of, as a whole the shark species feed on just about everything. Their diet consists of fish,

They are the most unique creatures in the ocean. They have hundreds of teeth in their mouth which make them seem scary. When sharks lose their teeth, there is always another tooth to replace it. Sharks have been around for more than 75,000,000 years. They are located all over the world. There are more than 300 species of sharks. These creatures have many talents and are very intelligent. I am not afraid of sharks because they are helpful to the environment, they can spit garbage out, and sharks are protective of their homes just like we are. The first reason I do not fear sharks is because sharks help the environment. Sharks keep our oceans balanced in many ways. They eat the rays that eat our California scallops, they eat fish to keep them from growing out of population, and more. However, some people fear sharks because of their great big teeth and feeding habits. If sharks smell blood they go into a feeding frenzy, which makes them eat everything in their path. Or, if they smell of urine they will go crazy. If I were you, I would think twice before peeing in the water. When sharks jump out of water they tend to roll their eyes back into their head, so their eyes don't burn. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sympathy for JAWS Sharks are known as one of the deadliest creatures in the aquatic ecosystem, but what would happen in the world's ocean without those sharks? The depopulation of sharks is increasing dramatically due to human impacts. If this continues, it will negatively impact all aspects of ocean life and environment (Ferretti et al, 2010). The depopulation of a creature so high on the aquatic food chain can lead to the overpopulation of other organisms, which causes a domino effect on all creatures in the ocean. This could either rapidly increase or decrease their population, altering the food chain altogether (Ferretti et al, 2010). Focusing on how the population decreases is the only way to prevent it. Elaborating on the over–fishing of such important creatures, as well as the negative effects that go along with depopulation, is the most proficient way to relay the message of these processes being such an issue. It is remarkable how important one sea creature can be to the entirety of the oceanic food chain as well as to the aquatic ecosystem as a whole. When some people think of, they think of JAWS, not many people take into consideration how important large sharks' roles are in the ocean. For example, focusing on the biology of sharks helps to further inform people about the basic background and information of what some may perceive to be as monsters. It may not have been life or death, but even just going camping you have to make a fire and build shelter to survive. These three people were in a life or death situation and used their unique characteristics to survive. In the news interview "Young Girl Tells Tale ofShark Attack", Bethany Hamilton talks about the incident where her arm bit off by a shark. Also, in a seminar given by Hyeonseo Lee, "My Escape from North Korea" she tells the story of how she and her family escaped from punishment in their home country. Lastly, Aron Ralston wrote in his article "Trapped" about how he got stuck under a rock while climbing for six days. As shown in the three aforementioned articles, these people have calmness, courage, and determination which allowed them to survive their situations. Bethany Hamilton had amazing calmness which helped her survive the incident where the shark bit off her arm. • 31. Evolution Of Sharks Essay Amongst the many living creatures of the aquatic world lurks an evolutionary advanced species called Selachimorpha, commonly known as Sharks. Sharks are the most dominantly feared creatures of the marine world. Although they are perceived as a threat to humans, these animals keep marine organisms in check. Sharks have developed a unique physical structure that enables them to efficiently hunt prey while simultaneously playing a vital role in balancing the ecosystem. Their order is separated into two super–orders, which are the extinct Cladoselachimorph and the Euselachii; composed of 12 orders of which only nine are amongst us today (9). Many scientists believe that sharks descended from an eyeless, finless, and boneless leaf shaped fish and that they came to existence at around 400 million years ago ("Shark Evolution" 1). Documented fossil records show that there were over 3,000 types of sharks and may have existed at the same period of time (Jones, "The Epic History of Sharks"). The reason it is difficult to discover them all is due to the rotting of the cartilaginous bone structure ("Shark ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Despite the stigma surrounding sharks and their history in Hollywood movies (see: Jaws, Sharknado, Deep Blue Sea, etc), sharks actually aren't very aggressive towards humans at all. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Experts say sharks rarely ever attack humans unprovoked. Most shark attacks are caused by mistaken identity, meaning they mistook you for a seal or a turtle, a shark's prey (see below). Sharks also investigate things by bumping it with their snout, or by putting it in their mouth. This is what causes "hit–and–runs" – the shark takes a bite and disappears. This is because the shark realized you weren't prey, or that you even tasted good. Shark attacks are also uncommonly fatal. According to statistics, only about 7% of shark attacks end in death. The three species of shark that are the most common perpetrators behind shark attacks are: the bull shark, tiger shark and great white, in that order. This isn't to say that those particular species are more aggressive or dangerous than other species. Unlike, say, lemon sharks, bulls, tigers and great whites are more likely to encounter a human. According to reports, sharks are being killed at an alarming rate of up to 273 million worldwide per year. Some experts predict that if the killing continues at the current rate many species will be lost forever with potentially devastating implications for our ocean ecosystems. If shark population is threatened, it could take a very long time to recover. Sharks are a keystone species which means they are at the top of the food chain and are an apex predator. Removing them could make the whole structure collapse. Sharks regulate the behavior of prey species, and prevent them from over–grazing vital habitats. Some shark researchers believe that the intimidation factor caused by sharks may actually have more of an impact on the ecosystem than what sharks actually eat. For example, scientists in Hawaii found that tiger sharks had a positive impact on the health of sea grass beds. Turtles, which are the tiger sharks' prey, graze on sea grass.
