Golda Meir Research Paper
Golda Meir spent her life actively involved in the betterment of the Jewish people, culminating her
impact on Israel as the first, female Prime Minister from 1969–1973. From her beginnings as a
young, Jewish girl living in a political environment where hate against her was encouraged, to her
socialist Zionist background, to her experience of living abroad, back to Israel, Golda Meir
passionately fought for fairness and human rights.
As a young girl Golda Meir was exposed to ideologies and life experiences that impacted her world
view and thus her actions. Her family lived with hatred for the Jews and government–sponsored
anti–Semitism under the ruling of Tsar Nicholas II in Kiev, Russia. After living in fear and poverty,
and at the age of 8, Meir's family emigrated to the United States of America. Here she experienced
the country's freedom and democracy. In America, Meir's life was ... Show more content on

She negotiated with the King of Jordan, King Hussein, for she wanted peace. As Prime Minister,
Golda Meir negotiated an arms agreement with President Richard Nixon. As Prime Minister, Meir
often had to take a strong stance with those in the Israeli Parliament and with the leaders of the Arab
states surrounding Israel. Meir tried to have peace between Israel's neighboring countries. Israel
became an independent state with Meir's help. After the Declaration of Israel was signed, war began
that caused the part of Palestine promised for an Arab nation to be taken over by Israel, Egypt and
Jordan. The Palestinians fled to refugee camps. Her fight to try to create a new government was long
and hard. Some say the Yom Kippur War, where 2000 Jews died, was a blemish on her record
because people blamed her diplomatic style as the cause. Although she was elected in 1973, Golda
Meir resigned from politics in 1974, tired of political life. She died in

A Brief Story of Yitzhak Rabin
1. Introduction On the evening of November 4, 1995, it was the time to celebrate the joyfully

In July 1976, Israeli hostages on a plane hijacked. But they were rescued from Uganda by the I.D.F.
This was a great success in the war with terrorists. It demonstrated that Israel refused to capitulate to
terrorism. In April 1977, Yitzhak Rabin resigned as prime minister in the wake of the revelation that
his wife, Leah, retained a bank account in the U.S. from the time her husband had served as
ambassador there. (At the time, operating a foreign currency account was illegal under Israeli
currency law.) (Yang Mansu, 2007) 2.8 As Minister of Defense In 1984, the national government of
Israel agreed to elect Rabin as minister of defense, until the failure of the second unity government
in 1990. One of his tasks was disengaging the I.D.F. from a war of attrition in Lebanon. The two
sides of the war established a narrow zone of security in southern Lebanon. He also canceled the
Lavi aircraft project which developed by Israel Aircraft Industries. Also, he cut off part of the
defense budget as part of efforts to help the economy and halt inflation. In December 1987, the
outburst of the Intifada (the Palestinian uprising in the occupied territories) caught Israel by
surprise. Rapidly, Israel escalated to alarming proportions. Rabin initially adopted an iron–fist
policy to suppress the uprising and instructed the I.D.F. to respond to

Essay On Goldie Mabotvitch
On May 3, 1898, Goldie Mabotvitch, sometimes named Golda, was born into a Jewish family in
Kiev, Russia ("Golda Meir"). Due to anti–Semitic persecution, her family immigrated to the United
States and settled down in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1905 (Brittanica). In 1916, Goldie attended
college at the Milwaukee Normal School; during her time in college, she became involved in
Zionism, the concept that the Jewish people should have their own nation state, and later joined
several Zionist clubs ("Golda Meir"). She graduated from college with a degree in Education and
married a man named Morris Meyerson ("Golda Meir"). In 1921, Golda and Morris moved to
Palestine, the former name for Israel, and joined a Jewish agricultural settlement called a kibbutz
(Sullivan and Koepp). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While in Jerusalem, Golda was a delegate in the Histadrut Trade Union, which helped spur
economic development amongst the hundreds of other kibbutzes throughout Palestine ("Golda
Meir"). In 1938, Golda attended the International Conference on Refugees, where she debated for an
international agreement on the safe refuge of Jews away from anti–Semitic persecution, to no avail
("Golda Meir (1898–1978)"). Golda stated, "There is only one thing I hope to see before I die and
that is that my people should not need expressions of sympathy anymore ("Golda Meir (1898–
1978)")," to express her opinion towards anti–Semitism and how the Conference was a failure for
not approving an agreement ("Golda Meir (1898–1978)"). However, the genocide brought against
the Jews in the Second World War, resurged the idea of a Jewish state, so that the Jews couldn't be

Revisionists' youth movement, converting into their leader by the age of 25 years old. He even was

A Comparison Of The Conflict Between Israel And Palestine
Conflict between Israel and Palestine has led to wars, injuries, and massacres. These two countries
have argued and fought for decades, ever since 1917. Both countries have been through many tough
moments and bombings. The major disagreement is the fact that both countries fight over land. Each
side of argument has a "right and wrong" effect. In recent events, the number of stabbings have been
increased by the month, and has been seen, as an organized terror attack.
The most ancient conflict in the Middle East is between the state of Israel, and the Palestinian
authority. This conflict is actually easy to explain, but hard to solve. If you really want to dive in,
and better understand the core of the problem, we need to go back in time, to about 1917, when the
British government ruled the area, and decided to support the establishment in Palestine of a
national home for the Jewish people. As result, Jews from Europe immediately began to immigrate
to Israel. As a reaction, Arabs demanded to stop the Jewish immigration, and later started to attack
Israeli towns. Arabs wanted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of Palestine's leaders, Mahmoud Abbas does not have a lot of supporters that favor him. He's
seen as a useless and ineffective with having a poor influence on Israel. He wants the intensity of the
conflict to abate, but other Palestinian leaders don't seem willing to follow his lead. A politician
from Palestine told them, "stop stuttering and start acting.", meaning that no one should let the
violence continue but to put an end to it. Even though there have been a recent attack of stabbings,
that is only a select few but the majority of Palestinians are good and try to solve the problems
between the Israelis and Palestinians. The Palestinians have had many issues with the Israelites but
are now working to solve the problems so they both do not have any more wars or

Abraham Was The Grandfather Jacob, The Israelite Patriarch
Bell 2
Introduction
Abraham was the grandfather Jacob, the Israelite patriarch. The Israelite lineage consists of
descendants from Jacob and his 12 sons, that later became the12 tribes of Israel. Scholars and many
Christians believe that the strife between Arab nations and the Israelites originated before Jacob,
with his grandfather, Abraham and his son Jacob. Abraham lived several hundred years B.C.
According to the Bible and other legends and references God had promised Abraham a child and
from this child`s lineage would come a great nation. He was to have the child with his wife Sarah.
Sarah was thought to be barren and too old to conceive. In this time and culture, it was custom that
if the patriarch's wife could not conceive the husband could his wife's first handmaid to bear him a
child. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sarah saw that her hand maiden, Hagar, held contempt for her and Abraham told Sarah to do as she
wished with her. Sarah was unkind towards Hagar, so she fled. God spoke to Hagar and told her to
submit to Sarah and go back. God promised her a different nation would come from her son,
Ishmael, and it would be numerous. She was told her son would be wild and violent and would
always cause trouble with his "kinsmen". Soon, Sarah bore Abraham a son named Isaac, and he was
to be the father of the nation of Israel. Ishmael became the father of what is now considered the
Arab lineage. The land that was promised to Abraham and his son, "the promised land", was the
center of many disputes. Ishmael`s line believed the land was rightfully theirs as Ishmael was the
first born son. Ishmael was a son conceived out of disobedience and sin to a woman who was not
Abraham`s wife making him an illegitimate child. Israel believed the land was rightfully theirs
because it was promised to them by God. This is what many believe to be the root of the

Israel: Golda Meir
Golda Meir was on Israel's side in this argument. Her goal was to see Israel at peace with Palestine.
She has only sacrificed, during her fight for peace, for a country she is not even from. She fought for
peace throughout her political career, while in the United States, and sacrificed her family when
moving to Israel to help during the conflict. She helped Israel become a country in the first place,
but she still only wanted peace between Israel and Palestine. However, towards the end of her
political career she saw no need to seek compromise while Prime Minister of Israel.
Golda Meir was originally from Russia, but moved to America after a mob killed over 100 Jews.

During the war caused by The British White Paper of 1939, that only called for a Jewish homeland
and not a Jewish state allowing Arab officials to control it. Golda emerged as a powerful
spokesperson for the Zionist movement. In 1948 she signed Israel's declaration of Independence.
She was also appointed minister to Moscow, but when conflict broke out between Arab countries
and Israel, she returned and was elected to the Israeli Parliament. The Israeli Prime Minister David
Ben–Gurion sent Meir on a secret mission, disguised as an Arab women she crossed the border to
speak to King Abdullah I to try to persuade him not to enter a war against Israel. She did not
succeed. When independence was secure however, she worked to solve housing and employment
problems until retirement. But, she pulled out of retirement to become prime minister and during her
tenure she gained economic and military aid from U.S. President Nixon. This helped her open peace
talks with the Unite Arab Republic to hopefully put an end to the hostility. Israel's short time of
peace in the 1970s was broken by the 1973 war. Israel won with help from America, however, the
government was severely criticised for the fact that the country had been caught napping by its Arab
enemies. Golda Meir took most of the blame, and permanently retired a few months later.
Golda Meir wanted to see peace between Arab countries and Israel, but failed to achieve this goal.
Though after the creation of Israel, she saw no point in seeking compromise with the Palestines, as
long as Israel was secure. This is either her biased perspective or her extreme nationalism. Either
way, she still wanted there to be

Who Was Responsible For Eden's Death Essay
When Eden returned from his leave in mid–December 1956 to resume his political duties, it was to
oversee the final withdrawal of British troops from Egypt. Although by the middle of January 1957,
it became apparent that his ill–health would require that he step down as Prime Minister. On 9
January 1957, Eden resigned stating "I do not feel that it is right for me to continue in the office as
the Queen's First Minister knowing that I shall be unable to do my full duty by my Sovereign and
country." Was Eden's poor health an issue with regards to his mental acuity during the Suez Crisis?
It didn't seem to affect Eisenhower, who had had a heart attack, or Dulles who suffered from cancer.
Not to mention that Eden lived another twenty years before passing away. At the time of Eden's
death in 1977, an obituary appeared in The Times, Eden "was the last Prime Minister to believe
Britain was a great power and the first to confront a crisis which proved she was not." Guy Millard,

The Arab Israeli Conflict Essay
According to an apocryphal story, Pope John Paul once said that he believes there are two possible
solutions to the Arab–Israeli conflict, the realistic and the miraculous. The realistic being divine
intervention, and the miraculous being a voluntary agreement by both parties. On September 13th,
1993, it looked like the miraculous had happened when the Oslo Accords were signed by Israeli
Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Chairman Yasser Arafat
on the White House South Lawn. However, the objectives of the historic accords were never fully
implemented and the Palestinians remain a stateless nation. Further steps toward Israeli–Arab peace,
including the Cairo Agreement, Oslo II and the Camp David Summit, have fallen short of the goals
of both parties.
When he became president in 1993, Bill Clinton and his advisors did not initially make Israeli–
Palestinian peace a priority. The administration looked first to other Middle Eastern affairs,
believing that an Israeli–Syrian agreement was more likely, and that the policy of "dual
containment" in Iran and Iraq was more pressing. They thought that once they made a breakthrough
between Israel and Syria the Lebanese would be close behind, and that this would put pressure on
the Iran and Iraq, the biggest opponents of any sort of Israeli–Arab peace deal (US Office of the
Historian). The Americans were made aware of the secret negotiations that had begun in Oslo in
December 1992 between the

The struggle for ownership of the city intensified many years later at the end of the war, when
Britain had total control of Palestine. The Balfour Declaration issued in 1917, included in the British
mandate of Palestine, called for the idea of a Jewish homeland in Palestine. However, the Arabs
believed that Palestine would be created an independent state by helping the British in the campaign
against the Ottoman empire. Unfortunately, the British did not include this in their plans. They did
set up a separate Arab state in 1921, which is now Jordan. However, the remainder of the Palestinian
territory wished for independence. After World War II, Holocaust survivors flooded into Palestine
and Jerusalem, and a partition by the United Nations was established. In November 1947, the British
mandate ended, and Palestine was partitioned into Jewish and Arab states with Jerusalem as an
international city. The Arabs did not agree to this plan, as they were intent on preventing any Jewish
control in the area. However, Israel defended itself, and by 1949, it had joined the United Nations,
and been recognized by more than 50 governments around the world.

Israel: A Parliamentary Democracy In The United States
Israel is a compact country located in the Middle East along the Mediterranean Sea. The country is
around the size of New Jersey, with a population of around 8 million people. Referred to as the
biblical holy land, the capital of Israel is Jerusalem. Which has approximately 809,000 people living
there today. Israel is made up of a strong democracy with a parliamentary form of government.
There is both a president and prime minister. But the prime minister overall, holds all the power of
the government. (Cahill, Mary)
What makes Israel a parliamentary democracy is that the power is held with the people. The people
rule. The people are able to elect a president from a variety of 16 different political parties every
seven years. The current president is Reuven Rivlin who was elected last year. (CIA Fact book)
When the people elect others to make decisions for the country, this is known as an indirect
democracy. Even though there is a president, there is also a prime minister who is head of the
government. Benyamin Netanyahu is the prime minister, he holds executive power. The prime
minister is appointed by the president. The voting age in Israel is eighteen; everyone who is eighteen

Benjamin Bibi Netanyahu was born on October 21,1949 in Tel Aviv and is a prominent world leader

thus displaying some trait perspective of leadership such as physical factors like his height, seeing
that you had to be a certain height to be in the army and Netanyahu is 6 feet 0 inches, a height that is
more than that of the average man, According to the trait perspective, Netanyahu displayed
intelligence seeing that he was academically accomplished in his early days as well as his fluency
seeing that he lead several successful military operations. One could analyze and use the trait
perspective to interpret the early life of Benjamin Netanyahu and say that he was a born

Camp David Accords Essay
The Camp David Accords were signed on September 17, 1978 at the presidential retreat Camp
David. It was a peace treaty between the two warring nations Israel and Egypt and was paired with a
shuffle in territory. U.S. president Jimmy Carter accompanied Israeli prime minister Menachem
Begin and Egyptian leader Anwar El Sadat for the negotiations. These events led to more interaction
with Egypt and Israel, paved the way for future diplomatic meetings, and contributed to a
psychological shift in Israel.
After the Camp David Accords were put into place, interaction between Egypt and Israel increased.
According to Continuum of Political Encyclopedia of the Middle East, both countries sent
ambassadors to increase conversation. Additionally, Egypt

The Yom Kippur War
The Yom Kippur War also demonstrated that the Arabs could also hurt Israel's Western allies too
(Ross, 1996, p. 47). Arabs states put an embargo on oil to the United States and Western Europe
(Ross, 1996, p.47). There was a new weapon that could be used to draw the attention of the
superpowers to the conflict. Oil had a devastating effect when its prices were doubled and its
production was cut into half causing world–wide economic and political problems (Ross, 1996, p.
67). The United States began to place pressure on the Israel to make concessions with Arabs
(Blumberg, 1998, p.123).
In 1976, Israeli Prime minister Yitzhak Rabin ordered invasions of Arabic nations. These invasions
led to the rescue of several Israeli hostages who were hijacked by Palestinian terrorists in Entebbe,
Uganda (Blumberg, 1998, p.127). The first Arab leader to visit Israel was Egyptian President Anwar
Sadat in 1977. Sadat joined Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and United States President
Jimmy Carter in 1978 to sign the Camp David Accords. Under the Camp David Accords Egypt
recognized Israel's existence. Israel in return would agree to give back the part of the Sinai
Peninsula it still occupied. Sadat and Begin also agreed that there was a need for independence for
Palestinians. This was significant as it was the first time an Arab country would sign a peace treaty
with Israel. The Egyptian–Israeli Peace Treaty was signed in Washington D.C., which was to end
thirty years of hostility

assassinated by a Israel man who saw that
the peace treaty wasn't working and didn't
believe in trading land that Israel fought for
in many wars for peace that wasn't working.
In 1996 Israel signed a peace treaty with
Jordan. Israel is currently Trying to make a

because Syria wants The Golan Hights an
Israel dosent wasn't to give it to them. Since

countries. They have gained alot of land
through war but later gave it away in peace

disagree in giving away the land. The Arab
Israeli conflict has gotten alot better over the
year. They were not directly involved in any
wars since 1973 and they have made peace

Culture Essay: Israel
Introduction: "Israel was not created in order to disappear– Israel will endure and flourish. It is the
child of hope and the home of the brave. It can neither be broken by adversity nor demoralized by
success. It carries the shield of democracy and it honors the sword of freedom."This quote from
President John F. Kennedy 's Zionists of America Convention speech can considerably show that
despite the small size of the country, its culture spreads out from many different foundations that
would allow Israel itself to thrive. Israel has such a great history behind it. There has been a great
deal of events that have occurred in this country. A lot of the history is still standing today and is
still in fact being talked about. However violence and disagreements have contribute a serious role
in Israel's short history. In just the six one years Israel has been declared a state they have fought in
six wars, two civil wars, and over hundreds of disputes over the state. Yet, Israel still stands proofing
that it 's people have survived against all odds, and will continue to survive. Since their culture is
massive, and we all have many things to be learn from it. The culture of Israel , which includes
religion, holidays, food, and influential people, is essential to their flourish throughout the world.

Israel's Role In American Culture
Israel is one of the smallest countries in our world. Its role in the world's affairs, however has been
large since its independence from British rule in May 1948. They say if you ask 100 people what
culture is to them you will get 100 different answers. I believe E. B. Tylor said it best: "that complex
whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, morals, law, custom, and any other capabilities and
habits acquired by man as a member of society"(E. B. Tylor).

Golda Meir Essay examples
Through showing intellectually competency, religious attitudes, and commitment to justice, Golda
Meir is a profound example of an Ignatian leader. Over the course of her lifetime, Meir was able to
promote her intelligence, her beliefs, and her just ideals in order to create a better society for those
around her.
Golda Meir, who lived from May 3, 1898 to December 3,1978, was most famously known for being
a Zionist Labor leader. She served as a foreign minister in Israel from 1956 to 1966. Later in 1969,

Later, she continued the political aspects of her career in Israel as its minister diplomat to Moscow.
She came back to Israel in return and was then responsible for social insurance. Therefore, Meir had
gained her own four–year term as prime minister because of the support of her people. This period
of time was made note by the efforts Meir persued to gain aid from the United States in the form of
economy reinforcement and military support.
On May 14, 1948, Golda Meir had become on of the thirty–eight signers the Proclamation of
Independence in Israel, which was a huge step for the country. The independence of Israel was one
of the most noted events in Jewish culture. Even though Golda Meir appeared very simple –
dressing very simply, always hating makeup, and always wearing her hair neatly tucked into a bun –
she clearly had a signficant amount of impact on the world. Just after the independence being made
of Israel, on the following day in fact, seven Arab nations had already declared war against Israel
and had already began invading the country's borders.
In January of 1949, Meir was still in Moscow, which is where she fortunately had received news
that Israel had won the war. The new state had lost 4,486 soldiers and more than 2,000 civilians, but
it had gained new territory, which also included half of Jerusalem, which was a huge deal for Golda
Meir and the people of her culture.

The Role Of Politics In Israel
Israel is an extremely valuable ally in a region with significant strategic importance. Strong support
from the U.S. provides Israel with more freedom in the region. The ability of the United States to
depend on the partnership within an area of so much strife allows them to influence the region with
their own interests in mind. Right of entry to their ports in the Mediterranean Sea provides the U.S.
easy access to the coastal borders of Egypt and Libya, and working together to counter enemy air
threats benefits both countries (Blackwill & Slocombe, 2011). Surrounded by conflict and terrorism,
Israel proved it was worthy of the U.S.'s support with its strong values and cultural history. The

Men are typically obligated to two years and eight months of service, while women are obligated to
only two years. Israel's warfighting assets greatly outmatch those that their enemies possess. They
have been in possession of nuclear weapons since 1967 and have the capability to deliver them by

The Palestinian–Israeli Conflict in the Middle East
The Arab world is not in a compromising mood... Nations never concede; they fight. You won't get
anything by peaceful means or compromise. You can, perhaps get something, but only by the force
of your arms...But it's too late to talk of peaceful solutions" (Bard 1). The Arab League Secretary
Azzam Pasha said this statement on September 16, 1947, eight months before the state of Israel was
established. The Arabs held this mentality in a time when Israel was not yet a fact. This trait was
hereditary in the sense that it was taught to their children, who taught it to their children, and so on.

Even though a cease–fire was in effect, the war continued as Arabs closed the Suez Canal to Israel
shipping and Israel (in retaliation) did not allow the 700,000 Arab refugees return to their homes
(Regan 22).
The problem was that no Arab State wanted those refugees so camps were set up in Gaza Strip,
which was controlled by Egypt, and the West Bank, which was controlled by Jordan (23). This
inability to find a "home land" for the people now called Palestinians would lead to many of Israel's
conflicts with the Arab world. The Arabs did not want their Palestinian brothers in their countries
but, for some reason, Israel, the Jewish State, was supposed to take them in even though it had the
best reason not to. Was Israel, which had just won the war, now supposed to take back their
enemies? Of course not.
From 1949 to 1956, there was no peace in Israel, because Egypt continued attacking Israel from one
side while Syria continued attacking from the other. In 1953, in order to try to stop the violence,
Israel passed the Land Acquisition Law, offering payment for property taken from Arab citizens of
Israel who lived there between May 4, 1949 and April 1, 1952 (Silverman 54). However that did not
appear to stop the terror in the region or make peace with its neighbors. On October 14, 1956
Egyptian President Nasser said, "[o]ur hatred is very strong. There is no sense in talking about peace
with Israel. There is not the smallest place for negotiations"

Historical Fiction Book Report of The Hope by Herman Wouk
Historical Fiction Book Report:
The Hope by: Herman Wouk
The book The Hope is the story of Zev Barak, Benny Luria, Sam Pasternak, Kishote, four of Israel's
army officers during the major battles and struggles of Israel from 1948 until 1967. The War of
Independence, The Six Day War, and the 1956 Sinai Campaigns were all major events that had
major effects on Israel.
The book starts out with the war of independence in the town of Latrun with the Haganah 7th
brigade. The battle of Latrun was a battle that took place in beginning phases of the war. This battle
was a failure to the Haganah 7th brigade, which was newer formed unit. The main road between Tel
Aviv and Jerusalem which was commanded by the Latrun fortress. Arab forces were trying to take
over the fortress and deny jews from entering into Jerusalem. This particular battle and the events
depicted around and about the battle in the book are events and occurrences of actual history but it is
a simplified version of the events, of course. But the things that are not actual or real things in
history are the characters. Sam Pasternak is the fictional character used to illustrate the tasks of
Colonel Chaim Herzog which was a Israeli army officer who became an army general, later a
popular historian of the military, and then took on Israel's envoy to the UN, he even took on two
terms as President of Israel. The story of "Burma Road" in the book, like the battle of Latrun, is

The Seizure Of Nasser's Nationalization Of The Suez Canal
Nasser intended to use the revenue from the waterway to fund the Aswan Dam project, but it would
have taken Egypt 367 years to pay for the Dam from tolls alone. The Canal only brought in a profit
of $52 million and not the $100 million profit that Nasser was claiming.
To the United States, the nationalization of the Canal was a convenient excuse for what was to
come. To Britain and France, who felt that they owned the historical rights to the Suez Canal
Company, the seizure of the canal meant that they would lose their largest colonial vestige in the
region. Because there were no legal route for Britain and France to oppose Nasser's nationalization,

controversial, because it makes any non government operations in Israel that get most of their

The development of Israel received more threats of obliteration, but Israel could defend themselves.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu states that "The head of Hezbollah says: "If all the Jews gather
in Israel, it will save us the trouble of going after them worldwide" (Source A). This example falls
into the Holocaust. The Holocaust gathered Jews for their obliteration but now even after the
Holocaust, there are still threats of letting the Jews have Israel so they can wipe out the Jews easier
instead of gathering the Jews from different countries. This is a prime example showing that the
study of the Holocaust ties into the state of Israel because the state of Israel was threatened of
obliteration of the Jews, which would carry out the Holocaust. The Prime Minister then explains
further that, "The founding of Israel did not stop the attacks against Jews. It merely gave the Jews
power to defend themselves against those attacks...Time and again the Israeli army was forced to
repel attacks of much larger enemies determined to destroy us"(Source A). Another threat was again
identified by the Prime Minister "radical Iranian armed with nuclear weapons could bring an end to
the era of nuclear peace the world has enjoyed for the last 65 years. Such a regime could provide
nuclear weapons to terrorists might be tempted to use them itself...Iran's brazen bid to develop
nuclear weapons is first and foremost a threat to Israel"(Source A). Overall both these quotes give
support to the reasoning that the threats and attacks against the Jews aren't scarce but rising. The
development of Israel only gave the Jews more power to defend themselves against the crimes,
instead of lowering the threat of the obliteration of their race. All the threats are very dangerous for
the Jews in this time period and were very dangerous back then. Before Israel was developed the

Legalization Of Gay Marriage Equality In The United States
Gay Marriage Equality Dear Prime minister of Israel, Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu, As you know Mr.
Prime Minister, one of the most relevant issues around the world these days is the legalization Gay
Marriage. Many counties are beginning to allow same sex couples the right to marry out of
understanding that all citizens have the right to be with who they love in a legal union. You are the
Prime Minister of one of the most progressed, advanced and liberal country in the Middle East and
I'd like to ask you to act on Marriage Equality for the gay community. Gay Marriage should be
legalized all over the country because it will promote equal human rights, help decrease gay teenage
suicide rates and increase the number of children adopted around the world. ... Show more content

In the past, the definition of Marriage was a union between a man and a woman, but not anymore;
today it has changed to a union between two individuals. Times have changed Mr. Prime Minister
and the term of Marriage has been redefined. Society has come to learn and accept that being gay is
not a choice or a sickness and that gay couple should have the right to be legally united with the
ones they love. We live in the land of which my generation's great grandparents have been fighting
to establish, a county which they can be free in. We must promote equality rather than creating
second class citizens. Sadly, these individuals are being deprived of their right to marry. We work,
vote, and pay taxes. Just like I have my civil duties Mr. Prime Minister, I should have my civil
rights. When this basic right is being prevented from these equal individuals, it sends a wrong
message to the

Golda Meir Research Paper

  • 1. Golda Meir Research Paper Golda Meir spent her life actively involved in the betterment of the Jewish people, culminating her impact on Israel as the first, female Prime Minister from 1969–1973. From her beginnings as a young, Jewish girl living in a political environment where hate against her was encouraged, to her socialist Zionist background, to her experience of living abroad, back to Israel, Golda Meir passionately fought for fairness and human rights. As a young girl Golda Meir was exposed to ideologies and life experiences that impacted her world view and thus her actions. Her family lived with hatred for the Jews and government–sponsored anti–Semitism under the ruling of Tsar Nicholas II in Kiev, Russia. After living in fear and poverty, and at the age of 8, Meir's family emigrated to the United States of America. Here she experienced the country's freedom and democracy. As Prime Minister, Golda Meir negotiated an arms agreement with President Richard Nixon. As Prime Minister, Meir often had to take a strong stance with those in the Israeli Parliament and with the leaders of the Arab states surrounding Israel. Meir tried to have peace between Israel's neighboring countries. Israel became an independent state with Meir's help. After the Declaration of Israel was signed, war began that caused the part of Palestine promised for an Arab nation to be taken over by Israel, Egypt and Jordan. The Palestinians fled to refugee camps. Her fight to try to create a new government was long and hard. Some say the Yom Kippur War, where 2000 Jews died, was a blemish on her record because people blamed her diplomatic style as the cause. Although she was elected in 1973, Golda Meir resigned from politics in 1974, tired of political life. She died in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But for the peace–loving people, particularly for the peace–loving people in Israel and Arab, it was actually a black weekend. It was precisely that evening, one of the creators of Palestinian–Israeli peace, who was known as peaceful warrior, Yitzhak Rabin, Premier of Israeli, was murdered by an assassin. The world had shocked, his imposing and heartrending life, became the focal point of the people immediately. All the peace–lovers were sorrowful for his death. They burst into tears for him, prayed for him, wished his soul to be serene in heaven. A peace dove had been gunned down; a peace warrior was falling down with several barbaric, ... It demonstrated that Israel refused to capitulate to terrorism. In April 1977, Yitzhak Rabin resigned as prime minister in the wake of the revelation that his wife, Leah, retained a bank account in the U.S. from the time her husband had served as ambassador there. (At the time, operating a foreign currency account was illegal under Israeli currency law.) (Yang Mansu, 2007) 2.8 As Minister of Defense In 1984, the national government of Israel agreed to elect Rabin as minister of defense, until the failure of the second unity government in 1990. One of his tasks was disengaging the I.D.F. from a war of attrition in Lebanon. The two sides of the war established a narrow zone of security in southern Lebanon. He also canceled the Lavi aircraft project which developed by Israel Aircraft Industries. Also, he cut off part of the defense budget as part of efforts to help the economy and halt inflation. In December 1987, the outburst of the Intifada (the Palestinian uprising in the occupied territories) caught Israel by surprise. Rapidly, Israel escalated to alarming proportions. Due to anti–Semitic persecution, her family immigrated to the United States and settled down in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1905 (Brittanica). In 1916, Goldie attended college at the Milwaukee Normal School; during her time in college, she became involved in Zionism, the concept that the Jewish people should have their own nation state, and later joined several Zionist clubs ("Golda Meir"). She graduated from college with a degree in Education and married a man named Morris Meyerson ("Golda Meir"). • 5. A Comparison Of The Conflict Between Israel And Palestine Conflict between Israel and Palestine has led to wars, injuries, and massacres. These two countries have argued and fought for decades, ever since 1917. Both countries have been through many tough moments and bombings. The major disagreement is the fact that both countries fight over land. Each side of argument has a "right and wrong" effect. In recent events, the number of stabbings have been increased by the month, and has been seen, as an organized terror attack. The most ancient conflict in the Middle East is between the state of Israel, and the Palestinian authority. This conflict is actually easy to explain, but hard to solve. If you really want to dive in, and better understand the core of the problem, we need to go back in time, to about 1917, when the British government ruled the area, and decided to support the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people. As result, Jews from Europe immediately began to immigrate to Israel. As a reaction, Arabs demanded to stop the Jewish immigration, and later started to attack Israeli towns. Arabs wanted ... Scholars and many Christians believe that the strife between Arab nations and the Israelites originated before Jacob, with his grandfather, Abraham and his son Jacob. Abraham lived several hundred years B.C. According to the Bible and other legends and references God had promised Abraham a child and from this child`s lineage would come a great nation. She was told her son would be wild and violent and would always cause trouble with his "kinsmen". Soon, Sarah bore Abraham a son named Isaac, and he was to be the father of the nation of Israel. Ishmael became the father of what is now considered the Arab lineage. The land that was promised to Abraham and his son, "the promised land", was the center of many disputes. Ishmael`s line believed the land was rightfully theirs as Ishmael was the first born son. She was also appointed minister to Moscow, but when conflict broke out between Arab countries and Israel, she returned and was elected to the Israeli Parliament. The Israeli Prime Minister David Ben–Gurion sent Meir on a secret mission, disguised as an Arab women she crossed the border to speak to King Abdullah I to try to persuade him not to enter a war against Israel. She did not succeed. When independence was secure however, she worked to solve housing and employment problems until retirement. This helped her open peace talks with the Unite Arab Republic to hopefully put an end to the hostility. Israel's short time of peace in the 1970s was broken by the 1973 war. Israel won with help from America, however, the government was severely criticised for the fact that the country had been caught napping by its Arab enemies. Golda Meir took most of the blame, and permanently retired a few months later. Golda Meir wanted to see peace between Arab countries and Israel, but failed to achieve this goal. • 9. The Arab Israeli Conflict Essay According to an apocryphal story, Pope John Paul once said that he believes there are two possible solutions to the Arab–Israeli conflict, the realistic and the miraculous. The realistic being divine intervention, and the miraculous being a voluntary agreement by both parties. On September 13th, 1993, it looked like the miraculous had happened when the Oslo Accords were signed by Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Chairman Yasser Arafat on the White House South Lawn. However, the objectives of the historic accords were never fully implemented and the Palestinians remain a stateless nation. Further steps toward Israeli–Arab peace, including the Cairo Agreement, Oslo II and the Camp David Summit, have fallen short of the goals of both parties. When he became president in 1993, Bill Clinton and his advisors did not initially make Israeli– Palestinian peace a priority. The administration looked first to other Middle Eastern affairs, believing that an Israeli–Syrian agreement was more likely, and that the policy of "dual containment" in Iran and Iraq was more pressing. They thought that once they made a breakthrough between Israel and Syria the Lebanese would be close behind, and that this would put pressure on the Iran and Iraq, the biggest opponents of any sort of Israeli–Arab peace deal (US Office of the Historian). The struggle for ownership of the city intensified many years later at the end of the war, when Britain had total control of Palestine. The Balfour Declaration issued in 1917, included in the British mandate of Palestine, called for the idea of a Jewish homeland in Palestine. However, the Arabs believed that Palestine would be created an independent state by helping the British in the campaign against the Ottoman empire. Unfortunately, the British did not include this in their plans. They did set up a separate Arab state in 1921, which is now Jordan. However, the remainder of the Palestinian territory wished for independence. After World War II, Holocaust survivors flooded into Palestine and Jerusalem, and a partition by the United Nations was established. In November 1947, the British mandate ended, and Palestine was partitioned into Jewish and Arab states with Jerusalem as an international city. In 1953, in order to try to stop the violence, Israel passed the Land Acquisition Law, offering payment for property taken from Arab citizens of Israel who lived there between May 4, 1949 and April 1, 1952 (Silverman 54). However that did not appear to stop the terror in the region or make peace with its neighbors. On October 14, 1956 Egyptian President Nasser said, "[o]ur hatred is very strong. There is no sense in talking about peace with Israel. There is not the smallest place for negotiations" ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. The Seizure Of Nasser's Nationalization Of The Suez Canal Nasser intended to use the revenue from the waterway to fund the Aswan Dam project, but it would have taken Egypt 367 years to pay for the Dam from tolls alone. The Canal only brought in a profit of $52 million and not the $100 million profit that Nasser was claiming. To the United States, the nationalization of the Canal was a convenient excuse for what was to come. To Britain and France, who felt that they owned the historical rights to the Suez Canal Company, the seizure of the canal meant that they would lose their largest colonial vestige in the region. Because there were no legal route for Britain and France to oppose Nasser's nationalization, the Egyptian President could continue to manage the canal. Eisenhower felt that the Soviet Union was using the crisis as an opportunity to infiltrate the region, Eisenhower did not support military intervention in the Middle East. Eisenhower feared that the conflict would catalyze into a direct confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union. During a policy meeting, Eisenhower stated, "If the Soviets attack the French and British directly, we would be in war, and we would be justified in taking military action." A Third World War seemed imminent, but Eisenhower was determined to deter further conflict. At the time of the crisis, Britain was experiencing severe oil shortages and a near collapse of their banking system as a result of their military involvement. A furious Eisenhower pressured his Western ally to yield to Nasser by refusing to deliver oil or to offer any financial support until all British forces were removed from the Suez ... The exception to this is Ayelet Shaked's idea for a "NGO Transparency bill" to be passed. Netanyahu supports this bill but it has not helped his relations with other countries, including Israel's allies, because many other countries do not like the idea of the bill. This bill has been controversial, because it makes any non government operations in Israel that get most of their funding from foreign countries to say that they do when they are in the Knesset. This is believed to have slowed the process towards peace. On another note, Netanyahu has been trying to work towards the final agreement concerning the two state solution, but claims that it can only work if Hamas loses political power, in fear that if they gain control of Palestine , the security of Israel will be more threatened. Some may see these efforts as working against the peace process, and others may commend Netanyahu for his push towards peace. The development of Israel received more threats of obliteration, but Israel could defend themselves. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu states that "The head of Hezbollah says: "If all the Jews gather in Israel, it will save us the trouble of going after them worldwide" (Source A). This example falls into the Holocaust. The Holocaust gathered Jews for their obliteration but now even after the Holocaust, there are still threats of letting the Jews have Israel so they can wipe out the Jews easier instead of gathering the Jews from different countries. This is a prime example showing that the study of the Holocaust ties into the state of Israel because the state of Israel was threatened of obliteration of the Jews, which would carry out the Holocaust. The Prime Minister then explains further that, "The founding of Israel did not stop the attacks against Jews. It merely gave the Jews power to defend themselves against those attacks...Time and again the Israeli army was forced to repel attacks of much larger enemies determined to destroy us"(Source A). Another threat was again identified by the Prime Minister "radical Iranian armed with nuclear weapons could bring an end to the era of nuclear peace the world has enjoyed for the last 65 years. Such a regime could provide nuclear weapons to terrorists might be tempted to use them itself...Iran's brazen bid to develop nuclear weapons is first and foremost a threat to Israel"(Source A). Overall both these quotes give support to the reasoning that the threats and attacks against the Jews aren't scarce but rising. The development of Israel only gave the Jews more power to defend themselves against the crimes, instead of lowering the threat of the obliteration of their race. All the threats are very dangerous for the Jews in this time period and were very dangerous back then. Before Israel was developed the Jews were targeted without defense in ...
