Question 5
1. Question 5- How did you
attract and address your
audience.
SUMMER JONES
2. Target Audience
My target audience is teenagers and young adults, therefore I asked two
people from my target audience about their opinion on my production.
3. Feedback
Niamh, 16, thoroughly enjoys films in the horror genre, I showed her my
production, and asked for her opinion.
She said “I thought the use of lighting really created a sense of enigma,
which was also conventional to the genre of Horror. As soon as the
opening scene was shown, it was clear which genre was being presented.
The quick cuts at the beginning of the sequence were effective, as It really
caught my attention, making me want to watch on. The main character,
being a girl of a similar ages, also made it easy to relate to, and more
realistic. I think it made me invest more on the film, as I had empathy for
the main character.”
4. Feedback
I agree with Niamh, as I think my use of lighting was used especially effectively
throughout my opening titles sequence. I also agree that the quick cuts at the
beginning capture the attention of the audience. I got my inspiration for the quick
cuts from the opening titles sequence of the film ‘Se7en’.

5. Feedback
Luke, 19, who also enjoys horror films said “The lighting and titling really shouted
‘Horror’ out to me…I could tell what gene was being presented straight away,
which shows how effective it is. The quick cuts at the beginning were interesting,
and created a sense of enigma. However I think these quick cuts lasted too long at
the beginning, as when the main storyline started, I found it even more
interesting, and shows a good sense of narrative. If these parts were longer, I think
the sequence would appeal even more to the target audience.
6. Feedback
Likewise, I also agree with Luke.
It is clear that the lighting and titling is very effective, and genre conventional.
However to improve my production further, I would need to delete some of the short
cuts at the beginning, and add more, longer shots, which add to the narrative. I think
this would interest more people as I allows them to understand the narrative more,
making them want to continue watching.
