2. Case
• Ian is a 5-year-old boy diagnosed with Autism who
works with a BA regularly. He engages in behavior
such as crying and screaming when he wants
something such as a toy or a treat since he doesn’t
have certain words/phrases in his repertoire. The BA
is beginning to use the strategy of scripts in order to
build Ian’s verbal repertoire.
3. Case
• The BA is using a few scripted statements and new
additions of nouns and verbs to build variability as in
his vocabulary as well. The BA hopes that using
scripts and extinction will allow for a decrease in
problem behavior, spontaneous tacts and deficient
mands.
4. Response
• The BA would teach the student a replacement
behavior and reinforce when that behavior occurs,
while no longer providing SR for the target behavior.
5. Response
• The BA will then use differential reinforcement to
carry out the extinction process. This will be done by
selecting the appropriate behavior exhibited by
Ian, and then it is reinforced, as long as the
unwanted behavior did not occur.
