Neil Degrasse Tyson Rhetorical Devices
"Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure
science..." is said by Edwin P. Hubble. The passage Coming to Our Senses is written by Neil
deGrasse Tyson. In this passage it discusses how our senses are limited and how they can be
improved by technology. Tyson uses many rhetorical devices in his passage such as rhetorical
questions, sensory details, and figurative language . By using these he made the reader to be more
involved with the passage because they now have to think but at the same time read and
comprehend the story. One rhetorical device Tyson uses is asking rhetorical questions. By asking
these he lets the reader ponder about what he is going to talk about. He does not expect the reader

Summary Of Neil Degrasse Tyson
Based on the title of this episode, I expected it to talk about the depths of the ocean, but I was
wrong. Instead the episode began by discussing condensation and evaporation and the sun's effect
on each one of these mechanisms. Neil Degrasse Tyson then dived deep into a water trap to further
express the contents of the drop, and the water bears appeared once again, their small but rigid
tolerance allows them to survive almost everywhere. The episode then began to discuss the structure
of a plant at a molecular level and Photosynthesis. There was one thing that I found very interesting
in this episode and that was then sectioned that talked about Charles Darwin's prediction about the
orchid's nectar. He believed that everything as created for a reason, if the Orchid had nectar at the
end of their narrow stems there must be an animal capable of retrieving that nectar, and he was right

Human Perspective : Discovery And The Principle Of Discovery
Human Perspective Discovery is "the action of bringing to light something (as a substance, scientific
phenomenon, etc.) which was previously unknown" (OED). The principle of discovery is one that
humankind has been inevitably drawn to since before they could be considered "Human". This
principle of desire for knowledge and information still exists today, though in somewhat different
forms. While we as a species once sought discovery simply because it was needed for survival, we
know seek knowledge to further ourselves. Humanities' great minds are no longer needed to make
fires so the tribe does not starve. They now can focus on concepts that would once have been
considered the senile delusions of a raving lunatic. Due to the technology that humans now possess
we now not only explore our planet, but venture forth, through atmosphere and against gravity, into
what our ancestors only knew as "the heavens above" and what we know as, and refer to as space.
Humans can now discover and research the universe in a way unimaginable a mere century ago.
Astronomy is "the science which deals with the universe beyond the earth's atmosphere, comprising
the study of celestial objects and extraterrestrial phenomena, and of the nature and history of the
universe" (OED). James Ferguson Wrote the "astronomy is acknowledged to be, and undoubtedly
is...the most useful. For, by knowledge derived from this science...the bulk of earth is discovered" In
the field of astronomy none are arguably more

Science Olympiad Participant
Denise Grab, Science Olympiad Participant Denise Grab was in middle school and had no interest in
the environment. However, in her second year of Science Olympiad, the coach gave her the event of
Water Quality. She and her teammates entered the tournament and got first place at regionals and
second place at state. After she had won the tournament, she became more interested in
environmental sciences. It made her want to learn more about the environment. When she had to
pick a major in college, her experience in Environmental Science affected her choice. Ever since she
joined Science Olympiad, she learned more about science which led her to her current career,
environmental lawyer. Science Olympiad, an organization that teaches science from Kindergarten to

The Debate Over Time Resistance From Ignorance And Fear
Over time resistance to change is replaced by the adoration of beauty through scientific inquiry.
Resistance to change springs from ignorance and fear. People rejected Galileo's heliocentric model
of the universe without even studying the science (177). People would have rather falsely believed
that they were at the center of creation then have to admit that they were the third planet from the
sun. They rejected Galileo's new discovery out of fear and embellished themselves in their
ignorance. Their ignorance lead them further and further from the truth and its beauty. They even
adopted false ideas about the bible and thus distorted an important part of their life (Galileo, 177). A
life of resistance is dangerous because it causes one to flee from the truth and live in ignorance and
lies. People have tried to help save others form the dangers of resisting change. Galileo tried to
correct the false ideas and misconceptions people had about his heliocentric model. He stressed that
the bible was meant for salvation and not explaining nature (Galileo 182). He also stated that if each
word of the bible was taken literally then it would contradict itself and would anthropomorphize
God, who is supposed to be above human form and nature (Galileo 181). He made efforts to end
their resistance by showing them that they had no way of rejecting the truth and that their false
arguments were destructive to their faith. He told them a better way of looking at the bible to help
them get

Rhetorical Analysis of "Coming to Our Senses"
"Equipped with our five senses, along with telescopes and microscopes and mass spectrometers and
seismographs and magnetometers and particle accelerators and detectors across the electromagnetic
spectrum, we explore the universe around us and call the adventure science." –Neil deGrasse Tyson
Neil deGrasse Tyson, an American astrophysicist, and director of the Hayden Planetarium at the
American Museum of Natural History used this quote to clearly express his idea in his writing
"Coming to Our Senses" that we need technology with our senses to fully explore the world. Neil
deGrasse Tyson used many different types of rhetorical devices to convince his thoughts to his
audience.
Tyson being an astrophysicist made him more appealing to his audience because they knew that

anything they encountered, living or inanimate, for its basic properties." (pg. 163) He was
explaining if that we would we have great sense but, we would still need other devices to help us
explore the world. This was effective because it took his abstract idea and used an example the

Neil Degrasse Tyson is a prominent astrophysicist in today's scientific community. He is also a
writer and television personality. Tyson's first interest in space set root when he visited the
Hayden Planetarium for the first time at the age of nine. He is very well–educated; he attended
notorious colleges such as Princeton, Columbia University, and Harvard. After Tyson went through
multiple colleges and received his bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees; he wrote a book called
The Pluto Files. The Pluto Files is about the responses from people when they heard that Pluto
wasn't a planet anymore. The book is a big eye opener because it shows our emotionally attached

"Hayden Planetarium." American Museum of Natural History. N.p., n.d. Web. 13 Sept. 2016.
Summary: The Hayden Planetarium is part of the Department of Astrophysics at the
American Museum of Natural History. The planetarium was the main reason for why Neil Tyson
decided to enter the field of Physics. Their main objective is to open up the public to the information
from astrophysical research. They have been doing that effectively ever since 1935.
In fact, the Hayden Planetarium has been the home to more than one–hundred books that have been
authored by the staff there. Overall, the planetarium has been a central hub for scientific inspiration.
Analysis: The Hayden Planetarium is essential for the scientific fields. I know that the planetarium
focuses on physics and space but, inspiration can be found in the different works of all the authors. I
personally wish that there was a place like this planetarium in my hometown. If there were, I feel
that there would be a greater sense or appreciation for the sciences. It would

My Personal Quest For Knowledge
Knowledge. A powerful weapon overlooked by many people. I hope one day, as a society, we can
come together and use education to change the world. We could end poverty, inequality, disease, and
bring a new era of peace to a planet that has been fighting itself for too long. As a student and officer
of both Biology Club and Tri–Beta, I hold personal responsibility to expand my own knowledge on
a daily basis and try my best to reach out to the scientific community as well. My personal quest for
knowledge has been ongoing since the first day I picked up a science book. I have never been more
interested in any subject. It truly spoke to me. At a college level, there is a magnitude of
opportunities. I had the opportunity to participate in the Student Dissector program on campus in the
Spring of 2015, I visited the Stanford Cadaver Lab with Biology Club this semester, and I traveled
to see a talk by the world renowned American astrophysicist, cosmologist, author, and science
communicator, Neil deGrasse Tyson. While I believe expanding my own knowledge is of the utmost
importance, I have more passion for trying to educate and fascinate the scientific community. I have
done so through many events I have volunteered at and for some I have organized. In the Spring of
2015 I participated in the 1st Annual Student Seminar Series inspired by the world famous TED
Talks. This was a very exciting opportunity for me to communicate something I was passionate

Racism And Sexism For A Brighter Future
The description of issue due to racism and sexism is given below supported by educators articles
which includes Dr. James Waller and Sikivu Hutchinson. Throughout this essay, the mission is to
prevent discrimination and stereotypes for a brighter future. As we list the common issues that are
occurring in america's society that initially came from human nature of the elder generations. As we
believe in a way of life that dictates what one can do and can not do because of race, gender,
ethnicity, and interest. We consider these by–laws as the normal in society.
Stereotyping and racism Everyday someone is abused of their legal rights, and today people are
affected by racism and sexism due to their ethnicity and gender. I ask have you ever been limited on
what you can and cannot do? Many americans are limited to what careers, education, and others due
to stereotyping. Stereotyping is a way that one describes what you are interested in and future
careers due to just the visual of yourself and your beliefs. As I have experienced what it is like to be
stereotyped, I know many other have experienced the same. Will there ever be a solution to the
society error that we describe as normal? Or would you like it if someone treated you the way you
treat others? Society will change over time due to the human race and their actions. Someday we
will live equal lives and that is the day we will conquer world peace, but today what will we do as
individuals or together to improve the

Movies and shows like Star Wars and Star Trek play with the idea of the unknown, making

that make Star Wars appealing. While Cosmos may not feature actual aliens and laser blasters, it
treats unknown scientific possibilities as foreign and in some cases futuristic as if to ask the viewers:

what I considered to be a well written paper only to get them returned with a bloody C. While it may
be frustrating it's not the end all for my writing; with each crappy grade I receive I get feedback on
what to do for the next assignment. All goals have obstacles and roadblocks the road to success is
not a straight path but a complex maze with dead ends and twists and turns. When people fear
failure they don't even attempt the maze. Some who do attempt will give up as soon as the maze

Cosmic Perspective Summary
In his article "The Cosmic Perspective", Neil DeGrasse Tyson introduces us to the idea of the
cosmic perspective. This concept puts all humanity in their place, for we are not the center of the
universe. Tyson accomplishes this by stating that the issues that seem so big to us are nothing when
you see them with the cosmic perspective. He also talks about how the earth is so small that it's like
a speck of dust compared to the universe. He goes on to say that without the cosmic perspective we
wouldn't even be the people we are today! With all this talk about the universe and how big it is, the
connection to the reader gets lost. However, Tyson brings it back down to earth by stating the
following, "A single breathful draws in more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among all the facts that the cosmic perspective is vital to humanity there is some sentiment too.
Tyson introduces the atomic structure of everything in the universe. The basic building blocks of
life. These are carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, and nitrogen. All of these natural elements are found in
the human body as well as in the stars of the universe. We are thus a part of the stars and the stars
are a part of us. This brings up a feeling of importance to the reader. Throughout the article readers
feel the weight of the world coming in at them. In this short paragraph Tyson reminds them that they
are a part of the universe and have a place in life. One thing that is prevalent to the reader is the idea
that the cosmic perspective is more than seeing the universe. One must take into account that
applying the perspective is as important as knowing what the perspective entails. There is a
particularly powerful section of this article that states exactly how the cosmic perspective is vital to
living in today's world. Ideas that the cosmic perspective teaches how to see the beauty of the world,
be open to new things, act selflessly, and reach beyond our everyday needs assists humanity in
living the best life for themselves. Tyson invites his audience to consider the ideas that the cosmic
perspective brings. We must push forward with these newly found ideas and create a better world for
ourselves and the generations to follow.

The Importance Of Spending Valuable Resources On Space...
Have you ever thought about spending valuable resources on space exploration? In several stories it
explains to you you about reasons why we should and should not spend valuable resources on earth.
For Example some of the reasons are to spend resources on space and some are not to valuable
resources on space, other stores tell you ideas what is happening if we do go deeper into thinking
about spending our resources. We should not spend valuable resources on space exploration. For
example, there are many reasons why we should spend money on earth before we go outer space
and not know what we are doing. Another reasons is not to spend money on space is because if it
don't help us later on in the future what is the point of spending so much money if it not going to be
useful in the future. To begin, in "Danger! This Mission to Mars Can Bore You to Death! And Future

on–camera host of PBS–NOVA's spinoff program NOVA ScienceNOW, which is an accessible look
at the frontier of all the science that shapes the understanding of our place in the universe.
As director of the Hayden Planetarium, Dr. Tyson strayed away from traditional thinking in order to
keep Pluto from being referred to as the ninth planet in exhibits at the center. Dr. Tyson has

together, the gas giants together, and Pluto with like objects, and to get away from simply counting

changing Pluto to the dwarf planet classification (Hayden Planetarium).

Using the marvelous complexity of science, we can confidently say a with degree of certainty that
there are multiple realities. And even if we cannot say this with certainty, then we can say it anyway,
because there is no one to stop us, and that is what humans do. In one of these infinite realities, I am

Ironically just two years later I owned a pair of my own pet rats in highschool, I know that they are

have not been challenged or confronted before. Carl Sagan, a prominent astrophysicist and

the idea that it's possible to believe something that to others is obviously false by constructing an

coming up with a myriad of ways to test its existence yet it is unsuccessful as the dragon is always

That is a question many people ask and have been asking for quite a long time. Is the answer just
because the process is taking a long time or is the reason bigger then that? According to
news.nationalgeographic.com "humans put all of their ideas and efforts into working on the mission
but they've never left the drawing board." NASA's preparation for the trip to Mars has taken at least
70 years (Heres Why, 2017). Many people are still scared about new missions because they're
reminded of the Apollo 1 tragedy in 1967. There are many problems that humans could face if they
went to Mars such as, they will need enough water, food, oxygen, etc. There is also the risk of being
exposed to radiations from spending years in space (Choi, 2017). "It's a choice, not an imperative"
says John Logsdon a professor at the George Washington University's space policy institute, many
may have the same beliefs as him, but one day traveling to Mars could become an imperative and
humans need to be ready and prepared for that day (Heres Why, 2017). Colonizing Mars would be
very beneficial in many ways but it would also be very dangerous for humans. Are humans willing
to take initiative and take the risk of traveling to Mars? If they are not ready then will the Earth

mnemonics about the planets changed with the culture that it resided with. The author indicated that,
"In America, the mnemonic about Pluto changed to pizza, one of the most favoured dish in
America." This quote from page 18 in The Pluto Files, explained how America's favourite food,
pizza, was used as a mnemonic which enabled students to learn about the Solar System in sequence.
However, with technological and scientific advancements Pluto faced serious issues in the years
ahead. Pluto by far was the least massive planet, with less than 5 percent of the mass of Mercury, the
solar system's next smallest planet. The orbit of Pluto is very flat from a perfect circle. In fact, Pluto
spends 20 years of its 248 year orbit closer to Neptune than to the Sun. Pluto's orbit is not only
oblong, it tips more than 17 degrees from the plane of the solar system, a full of 10 degrees more
than Mercury's orbit.
Pluto's largest moon Charon was discovered in June 1978 by USNO's James Christy when he
spotted a suspicious bump on an elongated shape of Pluto and when further researched and
examined, the evidence stated that Pluto had a moon. Richard Binzel and his collaborators

Neil Degrasse Tyson 's Theory Of Evolution
Neil DeGrasse Tyson once said "The theory of evolution, like the theory of gravity, is a scientific
fact". Neil DeGrasse Tyson is an acclaimed astrophysicist, cosmologist, and science communicator
and has influence in the scientific world we live in today. "Biological evolution, simply put, is
descent with modification" ("An Introduction to..."). "This definition encompasses small–scale
evolution and large–scale evolution (the descent of different species from a common ancestor over
many generations)" ("An Introduction to..."). There is now enough evidence for the theory of
evolution that many consider it a fact and as such are turning away from the idea of creationism as a
whole. Because of evolution you can trace just about every living thing on the Earth back to its
ancestry billions of years ago. Darwin believed that all life on Earth descended from one primordial
form (Naff 61). Darwin didn't discover evolution or come up with the concept, but he was the
frontrunner in research and a public endorser of the theory. The theory of evolution is correct
because of homology, progressions of species changing over time, and natural selection.
The first and quite possibly the best evidence for evolution is Homology. Homology is when species
share similarities that are signs of common ancestry such as homologous structures. Homologous
structures are ones that derive from a common ancestral structure ("Evidence of Evolution...").
These can prove to be very solid reasoning when arguing

and your careers did not depend on publishing papers in scientific journals so there was less pressure
from society. While Frankenstein got a lot of reinforcement and positivity from M. Waldman, M.
Krempe was more uptight and strict. Because Frankenstein studied alchemy and pseudoscience, M.
Krempe rudely commented that Frankenstein has wasted his time studying the likes of Cornelius
Agrippa, Albertus Magnus, and Paracelsus. As a result of the degradation received from M. Krempe,
Frankenstein feels a sense to prove him wrong and make something of himself. One may argue that
Frankenstein works to the point of illness because of his passion and love for the field. That may be
true, however, there is no denying that Frankenstein feels a sense of pressure from his professors–
close to how Will Rodman receives pressure from his boss. The pressures put on scientists
consequently leads to sloppy and not well thought out science, like Rise of the Planet of the Apes
and Frankenstein, respectively. "Very often, when scientific discoveries are made, the question
occurs, 'Have we gone too far?'", which is what Randall Toms states Frankenstein lacks in his
studies (Toms). The fact that Frankenstein did not think his science through can very well be
attributed to not wanting to be a failure in his

Bill Nye Speech
Bill Bill Bill Bill Bill Nye the science guy! Haha, that might've been a little corny. Mr. Nye, I hope
you find the time to read this, I used to be a huge fan of yours in elementary school. However, I lost
contact with you after entering middle school. I'm 20 years old now, and just about 2 years ago I
somehow stumbled upon your name on one of the greatest websites ever, the almighty YouTube. I
was instantly hooked to you and your videos on there. I found you because of my recently acquired
passion for evolutionary biology and environmental physics in college. Honestly, I also have to give
a lot of credit to the Cosmos: A Spacetime Oddessy (where is season 2 at?!) and Interstellar. They
both contributed to my curiosity about the universe and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having grown up in the Bible Belt of Georgia, I was taught about Christianity from birth. I prayed at
least once every day for a good bit of my teenage life. So as you could probably already tell..
Having to go through such a transformation was hard and quite the obstacle to overcome in my life.
In the end though, it was all worth it. Your book, Undeniable: Evolution & The Science of Creation,
was the icing on the cake to my transformation. The book is absolutely amazing at least. So I pay
much homage to you and your idea to get back on the map about science by reaching out to today's
society and my generation, the one that grew up watching your videos in grade school. It's working.
We need to know and understand how science works as a country, hell maybe even as a world
eventually. That would be a truly beautiful site, barring it wasn't out of our lifetimes. But back to my
point, progress in this country isn't going to happen without the basic fundamental knowledge about
life, evolution. You've made it obviously clear to me, through your videos and book, that it is very
real. It is happening all around us on this earth, and has for 4.5 BILLION

Death By Neil Degrasse Tyson: A Summary
Did you know that through transmutation fission, lead can be turned into gold? This and several
other ideas are discussed in the non–fiction expository piece of Death by Black Hole by Neil
deGrasse Tyson. This book would be classified under the genre of a science or humanities book.
Loyal readers to Tyson's other works already know of his talent to combine the nature of science
with a humorous tone to make his books intriguing and engaging. This new edition to his numerous
books and journals discuss the laws of natures that are not known to the vast majority of people and
the nature of why everything exists in our universe. Nonetheless, our world presents many obstacles
to which are discussed inside this journal.

Neil Degrasse Tyson Research Paper
The Man of the Cosmos
"We are part of this universe; we are in this universe, but perhaps more important than both those
facts, is that the universe is in us" (Tyson). These words are spoken by one of the most influential
and one of the smartest people of our time. He is astrophysicist, a teacher, and an author. A person
teaching the world the beauty of our universe and many other things. I am talking about Neil
deGrasse Tyson.
Neil deGrasse Tyson was born on October 5, 1958 in New York Manhattan by Cyril and Sunchita
deGrasse Tyson. Tyson's journey to becoming what he is right now is very interesting once you learn
about it. His love for science all started when he was 9 years old when he went to go visit the
Hayden Planetarium, which is in New York. He started his studies in The Bronx High School of
Science and while he attended this school he would give lectures about astronomy and was the
school editor for the Physical Science Journal in his school, so he started teaching people before he
made it into his career. When it was time for him to choose a University, he was called by Carl
Sagan to come by and visit the Carl Sagan Institute in Cornell University located in New York, and
Carl was not some random professor, but he was pretty much the whole reason as to why Neil ...

Neil deGrasse Tyson grew up in New York and became interested in astronomy at the age of nine
after he visited the Hayden Planetarium. After visiting the planetarium, he would frequently sit on
the roof of his apartment building and look at the night sky through a telescope. This new–found
love of Astronomy led to him attending the Bronx High School of Science where his education
specialized in Astronomy. He was so in love with Astrophysics that by the age of fifteen he was
giving lectures on the subject.
This all led Neil deGrasse Tyson to begin work in the same place where his love of Astrophysics
began, Hayden Planetarium. He started out as a Staff Scientist and now currently holds the position
of Frederick P. Rose Director. This position ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rose Director for the Hayden Planetarium, he founded the Department of Astrophysics at the
American Museum of Natural History. This was possibly the most significant of Neil deGrasse
Tyson's accomplishments. This department is continually researching new methods and technologies
to assist in observation of the universe along with performing research of their own.
He not only has been on the forefront of Astrophysics but also has always been involved in trying to
educate everyone about the thing he loves. This leads him to not only appear on but also host a large
number of radio and television shows. As well as making multiple cameos in movies. The show
most associated with Neil deGrasse Tyson is Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey. In this show, he
explains many scientific phenomena in a way that is easily understood.
One thing that sets Neil deGrasse Tyson apart from the majority of scientists and lecturers is the way
that he explains things to others. He doesn't just throw facts and definitions at somebody nor does he
just say things as simply as possible. Rather he explains things in an accepting and easily understood
manner possible. This means that he tailors his vocabulary as to best interest who he is speaking to
at the time. At the same time, he never acts like he is better or that you may not be able to
understand. This is just one of many things that he does to help everyone understand more about the
world they

This was a talk like no other in its set–up. It is not a stage in an auditorium or lecture hall. The
audience seats could have spanned in the front to where the speaker ends up interacting with the

the Planetarium, paces up and down the middle aisle as he knows the topic. The only critique I

Because Chilean mountains are based on experiences, generally, the presentation was in the style of
trip photos. Uniquely it was not 2–D flat photos, but 3–D panorama that panned the dome of the
Planetarium. The Solar Eclipse observation was prominent, but I would have ended my presentation
with that after every question were answered. Personally, it is slightly odd to expect the subject to be
about SOAR, then head to a different topic on the second slide. Appropriately, it would be best to
start with a gripping quote based on the founder of SOAR or a group photo of the team that
Professor Zepf has observed with. What I could apply for myself is a humourous banter or quotes on
magnetohydrodynamics. Immersively, with descriptions of the era where instant visual
communication was non–existent, we followed Zepf's steps of heading to the mountain–top from
what airlines were used and how long it took. It can make one forget about the station set in the
Biomedical and Physical Sciences Building to communicate with SOAR and take upon themselves
to take a trip to Chile. Definitely, I would be honoured to visit

Rhetorical Analysis Of Neil Degrasse Tyson
The following is a rhetorical analysis of Neil deGrasse Tyson's testimony to the US Senate
Committee on Commerce Science and Transportation. The audience of the speech is the Committee
on Commerce Science and Transportation and anyone who comes across the article online. The
original form of the testimony was a speech; however we are viewing it as an article. The context is
a presentation setting with multiple people. Tyson's purpose is to persuade the Committee on
Commerce Science and Transportation to increase NASA's Mars science exploration budget.
The author uses pathos, the appeal to emotion frequently. One example of pathos is when he says,
"The Cold War threatened total annihilation, a hot war killed a hundred servicemen each week, ...

One example of logos is "Right now, NASA's annual budget is half a penny on your tax dollar. For
twice that––a penny on a dollar––we can transform the country from a sullen, dispirited nation,
weary of economic struggle, to one where it has reclaimed its 20th century birthright to dream of
tomorrow." It's hard to argue against spending just one penny per tax dollar when just two years of
military spending is more than NASA has received in 50 years. Another example is "Space is a
multidimensional enterprise that taps the frontiers of many disciplines: biology, chemistry, physics,
astrophysics, geology, atmospherics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering." One of the
important roles of the audience, the US Senate, is to keep their constituents happy; putting more
money into NASA makes sense because uses wide variety of fields which in turn creates jobs.

tariffs and trade imbalances evaporate. The call for this adventure would echo loudly across society

Space Exploration: Neil Degrasse Tyson
"Space exploration is a force of nature unto itself that no other force in society can rival." (Greene)
The famous astrophysicist and astronomer, Neil Degrasse Tyson, one said these powerful words. To
paraphrase, Neil Degrasse Tyson meant that space exploration is unlike anything else as it compels
people to explore... explore the unknown and themselves. (Greene) Ever since I was little, I have
always admired outer space with all of its stars and comets and wanted to learn more about it. Due
to this, I am very informed about this topic and have done more than sufficient research through
various websites and articles on the Internet. Essentially, space exploration is extremely worthy of

For example, the amount of resources we consume each year is more than the earth can sustain. The
World Wildlife Fund estimates by 2030 we will be consuming two planets' worth of natural
resources. (Austen) At this rate, in the nearby future, we will run out of resources and energy,
however, through space travel, we can get these resources back. For instance, the moons of Jupiter,
Saturn, Uranus and Neptune contain high quantities of water, carbon and nitrogen. (Austen) These
are simply a few areas where mining resources are possible. Another major issue currently facing
civilization is climate change. Eventually, in the future, Earth might not be able to sustain life due to
countless reasons, such as the growing population, natural disasters or even the aftermath of war.
Even the Justice League wouldn't be able to solve these major issues, however, through space travel,
we could. Stephen Hawking, renowned astrophysicist and one of the smartest men alive, said ""Our
only chance of long–term survival is not to remain lurking on planet Earth, but to spread out into
space." (Szklarski) Possible in the distant future if needed, we could expand colonies of society into
space, for example, Mars's atmosphere offers some protection from cosmic rays and has 40 percent
of Earth's gravity. (Austen) Similarly to solving enormous problems facing society, space
exploration further develops

Carl Sagan And Neil Degrasse Tyson: Film Analysis
The universe is something so complex that many of us simply don't know what it is or why it exist.
Many have tried to figure out why there is such thing as a universe, and what it is made of like the
astronomers "Carl Sagan and Neil deGrasse Tyson". Carl Sagan introduced the public with the first
Cosmos television series in the 1980's to influence society about space, furthermore, in 2014 Neil
deGrasse Tyson introduces a followup to the original series. Both films received enormously great
attention from the public, but which one was actually received more attention? Is Sagan's or Tyson's
Cosmos series introduced better than the other? Analyzing both films and looking at how they were
both presented, organized and concluded, we will see if either film is indeed greater. ... Show more

were both introduced by each astronomer on a ocean clift and gave us a brief explanation of space
(cosmos). Sagan explains on top of a huge ocean cliff that the cosmos are "beyond human
understanding" and that "our life depends on how well we understand the universe and where we
stand within it". Tyson opens his cosmos series illustrating that "in order to take a trip through space
we need our imagination". Sagan and Tyson both introduced great information, but in tyson he

Cosmic Perspective By Neil Degrasse Tyson
Neil Degrasse Tyson points out in his article "Cosmic Perspective", first published in the Natural
Magazine in 2007, that if every human were to truly comprehend how stupendous and interraled the
universe is to us, our perspective on humanity would shift from a focus on our distinctions to our
connections. Tyson explores through many examples of the "cosmic perspective" to prove just how
closely associated we are with the universe. Tyson recalls the day he discovered in biology class that
more bacteria dwell on one centimeter of the colon than people who have ever walked the earth
(1072). This was just the start to the change that would take place on his view of humans as "masters
of space" to "participants in a great cosmic chain of being"

Coming To Our Senses By Neil Degrasse Tyson
Are our Senses Really Enough? In the scientifical essay "Coming to our Senses," Neil deGrasse
Tyson explores how although humans have 5 senses, they are not enough for understanding the
complexity of the universe. The message Tyson is attempting to share is that scientists need
machinery and technology in order to discover the universe further. This ties back to the title of the
essay, "Coming to our Senses," because he wants his audience to understand and realize the need of
technology. Tyson depicts this message with the use of persuasion, as well as text structure, which
allows his audience to clearly understand the message Tyson presents. Throughout the essay, Tyson
describes the importance of technology through persuasion and how our ... Show more content on

The quote acts as a form of persuasion because Tyson wants to convince the reader how in order to
make further discoveries, we need advanced technology to do so. Looking back to the title, we need
to come to our senses and understand technology is capable of understanding our surroundings
much more easily than humans. Tyson arranges his essay in a way so readers can apprehend the
significance of senses, whether from humans or technology. In the beginning of the essay, Tyson
inserts a quote from Edwin P Hubble, which explains how anyone with just their 5 senses has the
ability to explore the universe. Towards the end of the essay, however, Tyson words it in the way he
believes it should of originally be said, which is "Equipped with our five senses, along with
telescopes and microscopes... we explore the universe and call the adventure science." Tyson adjusts
the quote this way because it easily proves the point he is making throughout the essay. The use of
text structure demonstrates Tyson's position and causes the reader to understand his purpose of
writing this essay. You can see it as a plot twist since at first, the reader most likely believed the
essay will describe the importance of our 5 senses, but in reality, the essay portrays the urgency of

Fuzzy Thinking Analysis
In IT Foundations, I was assigned by Mrs. Baumaster to watch the video Fuzzy Thinking. The
speaker in this video is an Astrophysicist by the name of Neil deGrasse Tyson. In the video, Fuzzy
Thinking he talked about many things like what was wrong with the misspellings of the word Cat
and about his choice between hiring two workers. The video did not seem very interesting at first
but as I watched it, the video got more and more interesting. Tyson is a very good presenter in the
video because he made it interesting and fun to listen to him. All in all, this video was a great way to
get his message out on how people think. I answered 5 questions that Mrs. Baumaster asked about
the video Fuzzy Thinking. Fuzzy Thinking is when people are not thinking straight. I know this is
correct because right after he said fuzzy thinking he told the audience the definition of it. The
misspelling of the word cat is a very complex question. One misspelling is spelled as XQT and the
other is spelled as KAT but they are considered equally as wrong even though one sounds like cat
and the other does not. Tyson's is an astrophysicist which is similar to being an astronomer.
Astrophysicists study the physics of space. I think this is a very cool job and it would also be very
interesting as well as fun. The two job candidates were very different from one another. The first job
candidate had knowledge of the building because they studied architecture beforehand. They knew

"What, if anything, lies beyond our senses?"– Neil deGrasse Tyson. Neil deGrasse Tyson is an
Astrophysics and also the author of "Coming To Our Senses", which was published March 1st,
2001. This is a rhetorical essay arguing that our senses are limited. Neil deGrasse Tyson used
allusions, ethos, and logos effectively to deliver an essay about our five senses to a non–scientific
audience. One rhetorical device that the author used was allusions. He uses the allusions to inform
us that if everyone just used their senses and no technology, no one would know what to do in
certain situations. For example, he used the Star Trek allusion. The crew always brought a tricorder

Movie Analysis : The Geek, Society And Breaks Stereotypes
I often associate the word "intellectual" with a very positive and benevolent connotation, but Real
Genius has proven to me that being an intellectual does not automatically preclude someone from
moral scrutiny. This 1985 movie captures an alternative view of the "geek" society and breaks
stereotypes with the development of very three dimensional characters. But Real Genius is much
more than just a movie that redefines academics, it is also a film that heavily stresses the importance
of morality while promoting a revamped field of the sciences. Although at times very science–
centered, the movie sneakily weaves traces of philosophy into the plot as well. With that said, it
seems to me that Real Genius and the lecture on the Two Cultures have much more in common than
meets the eye. The underlying theme of morality drives the plot of Real Genius. Throughout the
film, there are numerous scenes that address the morality of the different characters. Not too long
into the film, we are shown that Professor Hathaway has enlisted the help of Chris Knight and Mitch
Taylor to create a 5–megawatt laser. But what we were not told at the time is that the laser is secretly
a government funded project by the Defense Department, and that there was a research grant given
to Pacific Tech to aid the project financially. As the plot progresses, we learn that Jerry Hathaway
has embezzled the grant to remodel his house, while leaving the students with a seemingly
impossible task. In order to

Neil deGrasse Tyson
A young boy wanders through the Hayden Planetarium, gazing at every planet model and space
device he can spot. Little did the nine–year old know his future had been decided right then and
there. He had no idea he would grow into one of the biggest contemporary scientists of our day. This
young boy was Neil deGrasse Tyson. He later said, about this event, "So strong was that imprint that
I 'm certain that I had no choice in the matter, that in fact, the universe called me."
In 1958 Manhattan gave birth to this remarkable man. He was raised in a middle class family and
attended The Bronx High School of Science, where he was editor–in–chief of the Physical Science
Journal and captain of the wrestling team. He also attended astronomy classes at the Planetarium,
where he was taught by Dr. Mark Chartrand III, who he credited to have an enthusiastic teaching
style mixed with humor that inspired him to look at the universe in a new light. Another idol of his

scientist, but not just a scientist. I want to be an astrophysicist just like Tyson. In many ways I aspire
to be like him. Carl Sagan was his inspiration, and he is mine.

Evolution, Structure, And Ultimate Fate Of Neil Degrasse...
Neil deGrasse Tyson is a contemporary astrophysicist, cosmologist, author, and television host. He
is best known for starring in numerous television shows explaining the universe in terms of physics.
He states, "During our brief stay on planet Earth, we owe ourselves and our descendants the
opportunity to explore – in part because it 's fun to do. But there 's a far nobler reason. The day our
knowledge of the cosmos ceases to expand, we risk regressing to the childish view that the universe
figuratively and literally revolves around us." The universe has been a constant mystery and
challenge to humankind. Humans wish to understand what is beyond their immediate environment.
Cosmology is the study of the universe, more specifically, the origins, evolution, history, structure,
and ultimate fate. In Greek, the term "cosmos" means universe, which is the very foundation of the
study. Cosmology's largest critic is Creationism; thus, science and religion battle it out to discover
what is true and right in the world. The history of the universe extends past the beginning of
humankind and the following philosophers, mathematicians, and astronomers will attempt to
provide explanations of what is known today as the Great Unknown. The universe of the past was
understood to be a simple one–galaxy model that was both unchanging and immeasurable. Theories
have constantly changed and been reconstructed to better portray the progression of human
understanding over time. "The cosmos began

The Power of Limiting and Empowering Beliefs and Values
Personal values are the core of our beliefs and values that we hold in and around our lives. As we
learn and grow, we accept new values and beliefs. We discard the ones that no longer work as we
grow and develop ourselves. Some of those values when growing up are ingrained by our family,
friends, community and the experiences which have contribute to our views. When we hear about
why two people fall in love, we hear that they tend to have the same values and beliefs. Those would
be our core values, how we want to live our lives. For myself, my longtime boyfriend and I have the
same core beliefs such as honesty, equality and open–mindedness to name a few. We find that these
allow us to grow and develop empowering us to make better decisions and better understand the
world we live in. We learn to try different foods, learn new things together, and find new things that
we love to do when spending time together. Even though I was raised in a religious family, my
curiosity has always led me to question everything and replace anything that no longer works for me
as my boyfriend does. I will compare my beliefs and values with someone who has very much the
same ones as me. I believe in honesty, equality, loyalty, respectfulness, open–mindedness, empathy,
generosity. I practice what I believe in by standing up for myself and the people I love, and being a
great role model. My boyfriend and I share the same values and beliefs which makes us a
compatible couple in the long

Death By Neil Degrasse Tyson Analysis
By reading the book Death by Black Hole: And Other Cosmic Quandaries, one can deduce that the
author, Neil deGrasse Tyson, is man of intelligence with a love for the ways of the universe. He
clearly has a passion for what he does, as he immerses himself in his personal interests by giving
public lectures about the cosmos (346). He values his personal interest so much that he has solved
how long it would take to cook a 16–inch pepperoni pizza on Venus; the answer is seven seconds
(80). Tyson obviously has a strong enthusiasm for what he does as an astrophysicist and has spent
many years in this field. Throughout the book, he explains concepts in ways that the reader is able to

he introduces the idea of a constant and uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader learns more about Tyson through the chapter "Holy Wars," in which he explains his
beliefs on God and religion. While the author does not indicate that he is an atheist, the reader is
drawn to the conclusion that he does not believe in God. He states that "if the Bible had ever been
shown to be a rich source of scientific answers and understanding, [scientists] would be mining it
daily for cosmic discovery" (352). This statement evidently states that the Bible holds no valuable
information with regards to the universal laws and ideas. On the last page of the book, Tyson further
emphasizes that one cannot put complete faith in a higher being by stating that "[God] does not want
students who could make the next major breakthrough in renewable energy sources or space travel
to have been taught that anything they do not understand, and that nobody yet understands, is
divinely constructed and therefore beyond intellectual capability"

Neil Degrasse Tyson Rhetorical Devices

  • 1. Neil Degrasse Tyson Rhetorical Devices "Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure science..." is said by Edwin P. Hubble. The passage Coming to Our Senses is written by Neil deGrasse Tyson. In this passage it discusses how our senses are limited and how they can be improved by technology. Tyson uses many rhetorical devices in his passage such as rhetorical questions, sensory details, and figurative language . By using these he made the reader to be more involved with the passage because they now have to think but at the same time read and comprehend the story. One rhetorical device Tyson uses is asking rhetorical questions. By asking these he lets the reader ponder about what he is going to talk about. He does not expect the reader ... • 3. Summary Of Neil Degrasse Tyson Based on the title of this episode, I expected it to talk about the depths of the ocean, but I was wrong. Instead the episode began by discussing condensation and evaporation and the sun's effect on each one of these mechanisms. Neil Degrasse Tyson then dived deep into a water trap to further express the contents of the drop, and the water bears appeared once again, their small but rigid tolerance allows them to survive almost everywhere. The episode then began to discuss the structure of a plant at a molecular level and Photosynthesis. There was one thing that I found very interesting in this episode and that was then sectioned that talked about Charles Darwin's prediction about the orchid's nectar. He believed that everything as created for a reason, if the Orchid had nectar at the end of their narrow stems there must be an animal capable of retrieving that nectar, and he was right a fly was discovered in Madagascar that had a lengthy tongue, one that was used to suck up the nectar from the bottom of the ... • 5. Human Perspective : Discovery And The Principle Of Discovery Human Perspective Discovery is "the action of bringing to light something (as a substance, scientific phenomenon, etc.) which was previously unknown" (OED). The principle of discovery is one that humankind has been inevitably drawn to since before they could be considered "Human". This principle of desire for knowledge and information still exists today, though in somewhat different forms. While we as a species once sought discovery simply because it was needed for survival, we know seek knowledge to further ourselves. Humanities' great minds are no longer needed to make fires so the tribe does not starve. They now can focus on concepts that would once have been considered the senile delusions of a raving lunatic. Due to the technology that humans now possess we now not only explore our planet, but venture forth, through atmosphere and against gravity, into what our ancestors only knew as "the heavens above" and what we know as, and refer to as space. Humans can now discover and research the universe in a way unimaginable a mere century ago. Astronomy is "the science which deals with the universe beyond the earth's atmosphere, comprising the study of celestial objects and extraterrestrial phenomena, and of the nature and history of the universe" (OED). James Ferguson Wrote the "astronomy is acknowledged to be, and undoubtedly is...the most useful. For, by knowledge derived from this science...the bulk of earth is discovered" In the field of astronomy none are arguably more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Science Olympiad was created by Dr. Gerard in March 29, 1982 from Macomb County. In May 1982 the first national tournament for Science Olympiad was held at Michigan. One of the tournaments from Science Olympiad are called Towers. The objective is to build the tallest tower using the tools and resources given to you. For example, you may be given paper cups, straws, bandages, and toothpicks to build a tower. Science Olympiad has several goals. One of their goals is "increasing male, female and minority interest in science" (Science Olympiad). It is important for the less fortunate to be successful. • 9. The Debate Over Time Resistance From Ignorance And Fear Over time resistance to change is replaced by the adoration of beauty through scientific inquiry. Resistance to change springs from ignorance and fear. People rejected Galileo's heliocentric model of the universe without even studying the science (177). People would have rather falsely believed that they were at the center of creation then have to admit that they were the third planet from the sun. They rejected Galileo's new discovery out of fear and embellished themselves in their ignorance. Their ignorance lead them further and further from the truth and its beauty. They even adopted false ideas about the bible and thus distorted an important part of their life (Galileo, 177). A life of resistance is dangerous because it causes one to flee from the truth and live in ignorance and lies. People have tried to help save others form the dangers of resisting change. Galileo tried to correct the false ideas and misconceptions people had about his heliocentric model. He stressed that the bible was meant for salvation and not explaining nature (Galileo 182). He also stated that if each word of the bible was taken literally then it would contradict itself and would anthropomorphize God, who is supposed to be above human form and nature (Galileo 181). He made efforts to end their resistance by showing them that they had no way of rejecting the truth and that their false arguments were destructive to their faith. He told them a better way of looking at the bible to help them get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Neil Degrasse Tyson Coming To Our Senses Rhetorical Analysis Rhetorical Analysis of "Coming to Our Senses" "Equipped with our five senses, along with telescopes and microscopes and mass spectrometers and seismographs and magnetometers and particle accelerators and detectors across the electromagnetic spectrum, we explore the universe around us and call the adventure science." –Neil deGrasse Tyson Neil deGrasse Tyson, an American astrophysicist, and director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History used this quote to clearly express his idea in his writing "Coming to Our Senses" that we need technology with our senses to fully explore the world. Neil deGrasse Tyson used many different types of rhetorical devices to convince his thoughts to his audience. Tyson being an astrophysicist made him more appealing to his audience because they knew that Tyson knew and understood what he was talking about. When he quoted Edwin ... (pg. 163) He was explaining if that we would we have great sense but, we would still need other devices to help us explore the world. • 13. Emotional Attachment: Neil Degrasse Tyson Emotional Attachment: Pluto Edition Neil Degrasse Tyson is a prominent astrophysicist in today's scientific community. He is also a writer and television personality. Tyson's first interest in space set root when he visited the Hayden Planetarium for the first time at the age of nine. He is very well–educated; he attended notorious colleges such as Princeton, Columbia University, and Harvard. After Tyson went through multiple colleges and received his bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees; he wrote a book called The Pluto Files. The Pluto Files is about the responses from people when they heard that Pluto wasn't a planet anymore. The book is a big eye opener because it shows our emotionally attached people were to Pluto. Summary: The Hayden Planetarium is part of the Department of Astrophysics at the American Museum of Natural History. The planetarium was the main reason for why Neil Tyson decided to enter the field of Physics. Their main objective is to open up the public to the information from astrophysical research. They have been doing that effectively ever since 1935. In fact, the Hayden Planetarium has been the home to more than one–hundred books that have been authored by the staff there. Overall, the planetarium has been a central hub for scientific inspiration. Analysis: The Hayden Planetarium is essential for the scientific fields. I know that the planetarium focuses on physics and space but, inspiration can be found in the different works of all the authors. • 15. My Personal Quest For Knowledge Knowledge. A powerful weapon overlooked by many people. I hope one day, as a society, we can come together and use education to change the world. We could end poverty, inequality, disease, and bring a new era of peace to a planet that has been fighting itself for too long. As a student and officer of both Biology Club and Tri–Beta, I hold personal responsibility to expand my own knowledge on a daily basis and try my best to reach out to the scientific community as well. My personal quest for knowledge has been ongoing since the first day I picked up a science book. I have never been more interested in any subject. It truly spoke to me. At a college level, there is a magnitude of opportunities. I had the opportunity to participate in the Student Dissector program on campus in the Spring of 2015, I visited the Stanford Cadaver Lab with Biology Club this semester, and I traveled to see a talk by the world renowned American astrophysicist, cosmologist, author, and science communicator, Neil deGrasse Tyson. While I believe expanding my own knowledge is of the utmost importance, I have more passion for trying to educate and fascinate the scientific community. I have done so through many events I have volunteered at and for some I have organized. In the Spring of 2015 I participated in the 1st Annual Student Seminar Series inspired by the world famous TED Talks. This was a very exciting opportunity for me to communicate something I was passionate about to an audience in an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout this essay, the mission is to prevent discrimination and stereotypes for a brighter future. As we list the common issues that are occurring in america's society that initially came from human nature of the elder generations. As we believe in a way of life that dictates what one can do and can not do because of race, gender, ethnicity, and interest. We consider these by–laws as the normal in society. Stereotyping and racism Everyday someone is abused of their legal rights, and today people are affected by racism and sexism due to their ethnicity and gender. I ask have you ever been limited on what you can and cannot do? Many americans are limited to what careers, education, and others due to stereotyping. Stereotyping is a way that one describes what you are interested in and future careers due to just the visual of yourself and your beliefs. As I have experienced what it is like to be stereotyped, I know many other have experienced the same. Will there ever be a solution to the society error that we describe as normal? Or would you like it if someone treated you the way you treat others? Society will change over time due to the human race and their actions. In fact we see the probing of these possibilities in the first episode, which spends the majority of its time talking about the multiverse theory. • 21. Learning : The Bane Of My Existence Learning How to Embrace Failure Ken Bain the bane of my existence is at in again in another pretentious, long chapter that could have been summed up in on sentence. "Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm." This quote by Winston Churchill sums up what took Mr. Bain thirty three pages to say. Since I can't merely just say this chapter is about learning to embraces our failures let me spend the next few paragraphs looking for meaning, and self–discovery is a book that makes me want to kill myself. Everyone fails at some point. I fail all the time, every single time I write one of these book blogs I spend hours poring over this god awful book "What the Best College Students do" looking for things I might be able to relate to, putting aside my hatred my Ken Bain to try and come up with something. The entire process is awful but I suck it up and write what I considered to be a well written paper only to get them returned with a bloody C. While it may be frustrating it's not the end all for my writing; with each crappy grade I receive I get feedback on what to do for the next assignment. All goals have obstacles and roadblocks the road to success is not a straight path but a complex maze with dead ends and twists and turns. When people fear failure they don't even attempt the maze. Some who do attempt will give up as soon as the maze becomes difficult. It's not their fault they failed. At the first sign of failure they give up. The other group ... • 23. Cosmic Perspective Summary In his article "The Cosmic Perspective", Neil DeGrasse Tyson introduces us to the idea of the cosmic perspective. This concept puts all humanity in their place, for we are not the center of the universe. Tyson accomplishes this by stating that the issues that seem so big to us are nothing when you see them with the cosmic perspective. He also talks about how the earth is so small that it's like a speck of dust compared to the universe. He goes on to say that without the cosmic perspective we wouldn't even be the people we are today! With all this talk about the universe and how big it is, the connection to the reader gets lost. However, Tyson brings it back down to earth by stating the following, "A single breathful draws in more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Among all the facts that the cosmic perspective is vital to humanity there is some sentiment too. Tyson introduces the atomic structure of everything in the universe. The basic building blocks of life. These are carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, and nitrogen. All of these natural elements are found in the human body as well as in the stars of the universe. We are thus a part of the stars and the stars are a part of us. This brings up a feeling of importance to the reader. Throughout the article readers feel the weight of the world coming in at them. In this short paragraph Tyson reminds them that they are a part of the universe and have a place in life. One thing that is prevalent to the reader is the idea that the cosmic perspective is more than seeing the universe. One must take into account that applying the perspective is as important as knowing what the perspective entails. There is a particularly powerful section of this article that states exactly how the cosmic perspective is vital to living in today's world. Ideas that the cosmic perspective teaches how to see the beauty of the world, be open to new things, act selflessly, and reach beyond our everyday needs assists humanity in living the best life for themselves. Tyson invites his audience to consider the ideas that the cosmic perspective brings. We must push forward with these newly found ideas and create a better world for ourselves and the generations to follow. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In several stories it explains to you you about reasons why we should and should not spend valuable resources on earth. For Example some of the reasons are to spend resources on space and some are not to valuable resources on space, other stores tell you ideas what is happening if we do go deeper into thinking about spending our resources. We should not spend valuable resources on space exploration. For example, there are many reasons why we should spend money on earth before we go outer space and not know what we are doing. Another reasons is not to spend money on space is because if it don't help us later on in the future what is the point of spending so much money if it not going to be useful in the future. Essay on Neil Degrasse Tyson Accomplishments of Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson I chose to research Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson because he has been an extraordinary role model for many people, both young and older. He has helped make learning about astronomy appeal to a much bigger audience than most have previously been able to do. For five seasons, beginning in the fall of 2006, Tyson appeared as the on–camera host of PBS–NOVA's spinoff program NOVA ScienceNOW, which is an accessible look at the frontier of all the science that shapes the understanding of our place in the universe. As director of the Hayden Planetarium, Dr. Tyson strayed away from traditional thinking in order to keep Pluto from being referred to as the ninth planet in exhibits at the center. Dr. Tyson has explained that he wanted to look at commonalities between objects, grouping the terrestrial planets together, the gas giants together, and Pluto with like objects, and to get away from simply counting the planets. In 2006, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) confirmed this assessment by changing Pluto to the dwarf planet classification (Hayden Planetarium). And even if we cannot say this with certainty, then we can say it anyway, because there is no one to stop us, and that is what humans do. In one of these infinite realities, I am an excellent student who has a phenomenal work ethic and is in every way, shape, and form perfect, according to our definition of the word. But that is not the reality in which we call home. In this reality, I am simply Kadin Asbery. What you see is what you get. I value the truth over any other, and I hold myself to a high standard of transparency. I believe that to hide thoughts or feelings is a form of lying. Only lessons to be learned. I also do not consider failure anything other than a learning experience as well. Everything is a lesson and a way to point us towards success, like it or not. "Our senses are faulty data–taking devices, and they need help," states Neil deGrasse Tyson, an American astrophysicist, author, and director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History. In his scientific essay "Coming to Our Senses," published in Natural History Magazine, Tyson explores the idea of the five senses being limited and needing help from technology. Through Tyson's use of ethical appeals, allusions, and hypothetical scenarios, he is able to effectively convince the readers that humans need to use their five senses and technology to explore and understand the world around them. Carl Sagan, a prominent astrophysicist and professor, touches on these topics in his essay "The dragon in my garage", In this essay he confronts the idea that it's possible to believe something that to others is obviously false by constructing an imaginary dragon as an illustration. Though it is well known that dragons are not real, he uses this as a thought experiment to describe the misplaced beliefs that people can hold. In his example Sagan's dragon cannot be measured for all intents and purposes besides rare physical manifestations of it's power, yet people choose to believe it's existence based solely off these small and refutable pieces of evidence. NASA's preparation for the trip to Mars has taken at least 70 years (Heres Why, 2017). Many people are still scared about new missions because they're reminded of the Apollo 1 tragedy in 1967. There are many problems that humans could face if they went to Mars such as, they will need enough water, food, oxygen, etc. There is also the risk of being exposed to radiations from spending years in space (Choi, 2017). • 39. Neil Degrasse Tyson 's Theory Of Evolution Neil DeGrasse Tyson once said "The theory of evolution, like the theory of gravity, is a scientific fact". Neil DeGrasse Tyson is an acclaimed astrophysicist, cosmologist, and science communicator and has influence in the scientific world we live in today. "Biological evolution, simply put, is descent with modification" ("An Introduction to..."). "This definition encompasses small–scale evolution and large–scale evolution (the descent of different species from a common ancestor over many generations)" ("An Introduction to..."). There is now enough evidence for the theory of evolution that many consider it a fact and as such are turning away from the idea of creationism as a whole. Because of evolution you can trace just about every living thing on the Earth back to its ancestry billions of years ago. Darwin believed that all life on Earth descended from one primordial form (Naff 61). Darwin didn't discover evolution or come up with the concept, but he was the frontrunner in research and a public endorser of the theory. The theory of evolution is correct because of homology, progressions of species changing over time, and natural selection. The first and quite possibly the best evidence for evolution is Homology. Homology is when species share similarities that are signs of common ancestry such as homologous structures. Homologous structures are ones that derive from a common ancestral structure ("Evidence of Evolution..."). These can prove to be very solid reasoning when arguing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although most of it came from himself, some did come from his professors–science was not something the general public knew much about and your careers did not depend on publishing papers in scientific journals so there was less pressure from society. While Frankenstein got a lot of reinforcement and positivity from M. Waldman, M. Krempe was more uptight and strict. Because Frankenstein studied alchemy and pseudoscience, M. Krempe rudely commented that Frankenstein has wasted his time studying the likes of Cornelius Agrippa, Albertus Magnus, and Paracelsus. As a result of the degradation received from M. Krempe, Frankenstein feels a sense to prove him wrong and make something of himself. One may argue that Frankenstein works to the point of illness because of his passion and love for the field. That may be true, however, there is no denying that Frankenstein feels a sense of pressure from his professors– close to how Will Rodman receives pressure from his boss. The pressures put on scientists consequently leads to sloppy and not well thought out science, like Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Frankenstein, respectively. "Very often, when scientific discoveries are made, the question occurs, 'Have we gone too far?'", which is what Randall Toms states Frankenstein lacks in his studies (Toms). He uses the allusions to inform us that if everyone just used their senses and no technology, no one would know what to do in certain situations. For example, he used the Star Trek allusion. The crew always brought a tricorder with them when going to another planet. This helps the audience to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Movie Analysis : The Geek, Society And Breaks Stereotypes I often associate the word "intellectual" with a very positive and benevolent connotation, but Real Genius has proven to me that being an intellectual does not automatically preclude someone from moral scrutiny. This 1985 movie captures an alternative view of the "geek" society and breaks stereotypes with the development of very three dimensional characters. But Real Genius is much more than just a movie that redefines academics, it is also a film that heavily stresses the importance of morality while promoting a revamped field of the sciences. Although at times very science– centered, the movie sneakily weaves traces of philosophy into the plot as well. With that said, it seems to me that Real Genius and the lecture on the Two Cultures have much more in common than meets the eye. The underlying theme of morality drives the plot of Real Genius. Throughout the film, there are numerous scenes that address the morality of the different characters. Not too long into the film, we are shown that Professor Hathaway has enlisted the help of Chris Knight and Mitch Taylor to create a 5–megawatt laser. But what we were not told at the time is that the laser is secretly a government funded project by the Defense Department, and that there was a research grant given to Pacific Tech to aid the project financially. As the plot progresses, we learn that Jerry Hathaway has embezzled the grant to remodel his house, while leaving the students with a seemingly impossible task. In order to ... • 71. Neil Degrasse Tyson 's Life Neil deGrasse Tyson A young boy wanders through the Hayden Planetarium, gazing at every planet model and space device he can spot. Little did the nine–year old know his future had been decided right then and there. He had no idea he would grow into one of the biggest contemporary scientists of our day. This young boy was Neil deGrasse Tyson. He later said, about this event, "So strong was that imprint that I 'm certain that I had no choice in the matter, that in fact, the universe called me." In 1958 Manhattan gave birth to this remarkable man. He was raised in a middle class family and attended The Bronx High School of Science, where he was editor–in–chief of the Physical Science Journal and captain of the wrestling team. He also attended astronomy classes at the Planetarium, where he was taught by Dr. Mark Chartrand III, who he credited to have an enthusiastic teaching style mixed with humor that inspired him to look at the universe in a new light. Another idol of his he met at the age of seventeen– Carl Sagan. The two spent one day together, and Tyson was deeply moved. He later wrote, "I already knew I wanted to become a scientist. But that afternoon, I learned from Carl the kind of person I wanted to become." Since a very young age, I've wanted to be a scientist, but not just a scientist. I want to be an astrophysicist just like Tyson. In many ways I aspire to be like him. Carl Sagan was his inspiration, and he is mine. Straight out of high school, Tyson went to ... • 73. Evolution, Structure, And Ultimate Fate Of Neil Degrasse... Neil deGrasse Tyson is a contemporary astrophysicist, cosmologist, author, and television host. He is best known for starring in numerous television shows explaining the universe in terms of physics. He states, "During our brief stay on planet Earth, we owe ourselves and our descendants the opportunity to explore – in part because it 's fun to do. But there 's a far nobler reason. The day our knowledge of the cosmos ceases to expand, we risk regressing to the childish view that the universe figuratively and literally revolves around us." The universe has been a constant mystery and challenge to humankind. Humans wish to understand what is beyond their immediate environment. Cosmology is the study of the universe, more specifically, the origins, evolution, history, structure, and ultimate fate. In Greek, the term "cosmos" means universe, which is the very foundation of the study. Cosmology's largest critic is Creationism; thus, science and religion battle it out to discover what is true and right in the world. The history of the universe extends past the beginning of humankind and the following philosophers, mathematicians, and astronomers will attempt to provide explanations of what is known today as the Great Unknown. The universe of the past was understood to be a simple one–galaxy model that was both unchanging and immeasurable. Theories have constantly changed and been reconstructed to better portray the progression of human understanding over time. "The cosmos began ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. The Power of Limiting and Empowering Beliefs and Values Personal values are the core of our beliefs and values that we hold in and around our lives. As we learn and grow, we accept new values and beliefs. We discard the ones that no longer work as we grow and develop ourselves. Some of those values when growing up are ingrained by our family, friends, community and the experiences which have contribute to our views. When we hear about why two people fall in love, we hear that they tend to have the same values and beliefs. Those would be our core values, how we want to live our lives. For myself, my longtime boyfriend and I have the same core beliefs such as honesty, equality and open–mindedness to name a few. We find that these allow us to grow and develop empowering us to make better decisions and better understand the world we live in. We learn to try different foods, learn new things together, and find new things that we love to do when spending time together. Even though I was raised in a religious family, my curiosity has always led me to question everything and replace anything that no longer works for me as my boyfriend does. I will compare my beliefs and values with someone who has very much the same ones as me. I believe in honesty, equality, loyalty, respectfulness, open–mindedness, empathy, generosity. I practice what I believe in by standing up for myself and the people I love, and being a great role model. My boyfriend and I share the same values and beliefs which makes us a compatible couple in the long ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Death By Neil Degrasse Tyson Analysis By reading the book Death by Black Hole: And Other Cosmic Quandaries, one can deduce that the author, Neil deGrasse Tyson, is man of intelligence with a love for the ways of the universe. He clearly has a passion for what he does, as he immerses himself in his personal interests by giving public lectures about the cosmos (346). He values his personal interest so much that he has solved how long it would take to cook a 16–inch pepperoni pizza on Venus; the answer is seven seconds (80). Tyson obviously has a strong enthusiasm for what he does as an astrophysicist and has spent many years in this field. Throughout the book, he explains concepts in ways that the reader is able to understand and relate to. He uses simple topics to help explain our complex universe. For example, he introduces the idea of a constant and uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reader learns more about Tyson through the chapter "Holy Wars," in which he explains his beliefs on God and religion. While the author does not indicate that he is an atheist, the reader is drawn to the conclusion that he does not believe in God. He states that "if the Bible had ever been shown to be a rich source of scientific answers and understanding, [scientists] would be mining it daily for cosmic discovery" (352). This statement evidently states that the Bible holds no valuable information with regards to the universal laws and ideas. On the last page of the book, Tyson further emphasizes that one cannot put complete faith in a higher being by stating that "[God] does not want students who could make the next major breakthrough in renewable energy sources or space travel to have been taught that anything they do not understand, and that nobody yet understands, is divinely constructed and therefore beyond intellectual capability" ...
