Choices Commercial
The Nutrigrain Choices commercial begins with a woman getting off the subway and moves to her
working in her office. The screen splits and two scenarios are set forward: one where she chose to
eat a Nutrigrain bar on the left and the other where she chose a donut on the right. There is a voice–
over about one decision leading to another. The woman on the left is shown eating a burrito,
brownie, and pasta as the commercial continues. On the right, we see her choosing a salad, a cup of
fruit, and vegetables. The woman on the right is seen walking up an escalator with a smile while her
counterpart rides up with a wearied expression. The woman on the left walks away after drying her
face, but the one on the right continues looking at her face with a smile. An image of wheat appears
and shifts to picture of Nutrigrain's strawberry cereal bar, as the audience is told the product is made
with real fruit and whole grains. The commercial is targeting a large audience of adults and teens.
Most individuals in these two groups are often busy, having little time to make or choose healthy
food. Younger children often look to adults and would not be old enough to understand the message
being conveyed. For this reason, the commercial uses a central character that audience can relate to,
a working woman that is constantly on the go. Her action and surroundings reflect common places a
person would go to and the people they are surrounded by. The audience is being told that a "good
decision,"

Face The Complexity Involved For Making Ethical Choices
"Face the complexity involved in making ethical choices."
– Linda Fischer Thornton
Identify and discuss the influences (family, culture, religion, etc...) on your personal ethics. Analyze
and discuss these influences in relation to one or more classical ethics philosophies (deontology,
utilitarianism, etc...). Reflect and comment on the Georgetown Ethos in light of the influences on
your personal ethics.
Ethics act as a basis of distinguishing between right and wrong and thus, determine what actions one
takes on a daily basis. As individuals, we are confronted with the reality of rules or laws that we
personally believe are unjust or immoral. This reality applies to the wider society we are members
of, the organisation we work for, and within our personal circles of friendship and family. According
to Socrates, ethics – which is the practice of becoming excellent at being human – is always
conducted with respect to something (Thornton, 2013). It can be argued that ethics are not inherent
due to the differing personal ethics found through the world; a person's ethics are learned not only
from personal experiences but families, friends, and teacher, and we learn right and wrong solely
from social conditioning. As we develop however, we sometimes face difficulty in making ethical
choices – be it in an educational institution or the work place. This paper will discuss personal
ethics, and analyse its impact on decision making in professional, academic and personal

Preparing An Expert When Making Our Next Investment Choice
Purpose: Introduction/background of problem
The purpose of this report is to help determine if it is better to consult an expert when
making our next investment choice. There are still three primary options we have to choose
from in order to make our decisions. The option we have are to invest in real estate, retail
franchise just for hats, or high yield municipal bonds. The decision was made to look at two
possible outcomes for each equation instead of three. The hope was that we will be able to help
simply the process by doing this action. The interests are whether the market will be Favorable
or Unfavorable, so we have collapsed the Medium and Low outcomes. With each of these
options there are different levels of risk that have to be considered in our decision making
process. Forecasts serve as decision support tools that allow leaders to plan for the future by
performing "what–if" analyses to determine how changes in inputs affects outcomes (Nordmeyer,
2015). In this scenario we are trying to determine if it is cost effective to consult an expert for hi
forecasting service due to the fee he charges for his services. We are going to conduct further
analysis to determine the value of the information the expert will provide.
Excel Analysis
A decision tree will be utilized to help us determine if there is any value in consulting an expert
on our next business investment. Decision trees are sequential models, which logically combine

Making Choices Research Paper
Making choices and decisions is a part of life. Simply put, the way life unfolds, with its twists and
turns, starts and stops, requires us to make choices and decisions every step of the way. Choices may
seem very small in reality time, but they can be huge when it comes to the outcome of your future.
In my life, I have had to make many important choices. Without some of these crucial choices, I
may or may not have been typing this letter. One of these very important choices is where I decided
to attend my high school education. Choosing where you attend high school is very important
because wherever you go, you must trust that the institution will prepare you for college as well as
life. Some of the circumstances that influence my choice to go to go to Villa Angela – St. Joseph

The first choice that will help me be a successful person has to do with spiritual life. I think that I
need to build a better relationship with God and trust his reasoning for all things. Along with this, I
must choose to understand that his reasoning is much greater than mine. Decisions in academics are
also very important as well. Academically, to be successful, one big choice I will have to pick is
what I want to do in college for my major. College is the beginning stages of being an adult, and
what major you set up in is going to prepare you to get a job in that field years after college. Last but
not least, personally, a choice I need to make to succeed is to make sure that I always have faith in
myself and in my capabilities. In life, there are not many things or people that you can truly count
on. But if you have internal belief in yourself at all times, that will take you very far. I believe these
important choices will get me on the right foot on the path to more

Chronic Diseases: Making Positive Lifestyle Choices
Assignment #5: Op–Ed Post (Need a title) Did you know that chronic diseases, such as heart
disease, cancer, and stroke account for 7 out of 10 deaths in the United States? About half of the
adults have one or more chronic diseases. These numbers are unacceptable and the worst thing is
that this issue is becoming more serious because the percentages are rising. The biggest problem is
that some people do not make positive lifestyle choices. There are many ways how we can improve
our health and a few of them include exercising, getting enough sleep, not smoking and eating
healthy, well–balanced diet. The latter can be improved if we would make better food choices. It is
essential that the information about different food products is correct ... Show more content on

There have been many changes since that time, including new dietary recommendations, new
information about nutrient definitions and reference intake values. All this new knowledge must be
available to the public because it complies with current health trends and would help us improve our
diets. Doctors say that including some added sugar in our diet is fine. But the truth is that most
people consume too much added sugar and they have a higher risk of developing cardiovascular
diseases, type II diabetes, dental caries, and unnecessary weight. Excessive body weight increases
the risk for the most chronic diseases. Did you know that an average American is consuming almost
66 pounds of added sugars every year? This is a very important matter and this problem must be
addressed! As we all know, food labels tell us how much sugar does each product contain. But do
we know how much of the sugar is natural and useful for us and how much is added? One of the
most important changes in the rule "Food Labeling: Revision of the Nutrition and Supplement Facts
Labels" is the addition of the declaration of "added sugars". It would help us distinguish these two
different sugars and assist in making the right decisions in our food

Free Will And Fate In King Oedipus The King
Humanity:
Human beings have great knowledge capability and can demonstrate incredible powers of
intellectual penetration and awareness. However, it is unreliable and limited because even the
smartest human being will commit an error. King Oedipus means to show that human beings are
powerless before the gods because they are the ones that created us and sort of path our journey on
Earth. Disaster and error can happen to anyone and human beings must have the best attitude toward
life (Sparknotes).
Decision–making process:
Human has the capacity to exert free will even though there is fate. Human's personality will decide
their free will. A wise person will make good decisions in life, a stubborn and ignorant person will

The choice of him of not to blind his past shows that he is not a victim of fate by uncovering an
event of past blindness. Bad ones can be uncover by good choices. Oedipus chooses to accept it and
live with dignity. Camus, the great absurdist philosopher and author said that Oedipus is an absurd
hero where he accepts his choices and not his fate (mstultz72, 2009). He seems to admit his
responsibility (Destiny, Fate, Free Will and Free Choice in Oedipus the King – Free Will).
The prophecy to Jocasta and Lauis is a fate. However, they make a free will decision to leave
Oedipus to die by giving him to the servant, but actually it is starting to fulfill the prophecy (Fate
and Free–Will in Sophocles' Oedipus the King). If they do not send Oedipus to death, he most likely
will not kill Lauis at the crossroads.
Furthermore, Oedipus chooses to be angry at Teiresias. He insults and bullies the seer into revealing
himself is the killer of Lauis causing the plague that affects the Theban citizens and living things.

Life Is Not Fair In The Cold Equations, By Tom Godwin
Life is Not Fair
Wise words from Dr. Steve Maraboli include, "The only thing that makes life unfair is the delusion
that life should be fair." Humans are deluded or misled that life will be easy, but that is not the case.
Logically, this connects to the short story The Cold Equations written by Tom Godwin because the
main character Marilyn Cross is required to make a hard decision relating to life being staggeringly
unfair, which ends in an inequitable, extreme outcome. Marilyn makes a choice early in the story
that results in her death. Hard choices, such as Marilyn's choice, are a part of everyday life because
life is not fair. In the story, hard choices are caused because laws are unforgiving and the right
choice is not always the easy choice. A probable cause of life not being fair is that laws are
unforgiving, everlasting, and unappeasable. Similarly, Marilyn, a young girl who wanted to spend
quality time with her brother, made a choice to board a spaceship to visit her brother. On the
spaceship, stowaways like Marilyn are unwanted and cannot stay. However, she did not know that
the spaceship had such laws. Once Marilyn became a stowaway on the spaceship, it no longer had
enough fuel to reach its destination; therefore, Marilyn must die. Marilyn advises, "It was the law,
and there could be no appeal" (10). The law is unforgiving, and it does not accept changes.
Likewise, Marilyn searches for alternate options other than dying, ways to change the law, and ways

Physical Order Produces Healthy Choices, Generosity, And...
Title of the reviewed article: Physical Order Produces Healthy Choices, Generosity, and
Conventionality, Whereas Disorder Produces Creativity
Reviewer's name: Dolkira Alkisti
1. Summary
The main aim of this study was to show that physical settings could have an impact on human
behaviour and decision–making. More specifically, the authors hypothesized that orderly
environments promote healthy food choices, generosity and convention, whilst disorderly settings
foster creativity. In the three experiments conducted, each participant was placed in a room (half of
the participants in an orderly condition and the other half in a disorderly). In the first experiment, 34
Dutch students were tested as to whether being in an organized setting can influence preferences of
food choices and donating money to a charity, in comparison to a messy environment. The second
experiment measured the influence of the environmental order concerning creativity in 48 American
students. In the third experiment, the authors measured the preference for a new or a classic option
in 188 American adults. As regards the outcomes of the experiments, the participants in a non–
organized setting made less healthy food choices and donated less money compared to the
participants in the orderly room. Furthermore, they produced ideas that are more creative and
showed a preference towards the new rather than the classic choice in contrast to the participants
that were located in a tidy condition. According to the

Understanding Social Influence On Online Choice
Purpose of the Study
To Switch or Not to Switch: Understanding Social Influence in Online Choice is a study that was
focused on the role of social influence in online recommender systems. Haiyi Zhu and Bernardo A.
Huberman, the authors of the study, were interested in studying how often peoples' choices are
affected by other individuals' endorsements. The hypothesis of the study is that individuals "are
more likely to reverse their opinions when the reversion causes less self–inconsistency (the
confirmation pressure is weaker) or the opposing social opinions are stronger (the conformity
pressure is stronger)".
Methodology
The researchers conducted various online experiments. The participants in the study went to the
Rankr website to select their preference of one image out of two images displayed. They first did
this with no knowledge of what people before them picked. The second time the participants had
indications of what others had chosen. The researchers were trying to determine whether seeing
other peoples' preferences affected the participants' choices. This setup allowed for social influence
to be measured based on if people changed their selections between the two instances. The
researchers wanted to see if the participants changed their mind after seeing what others preferred.
In addition, the researchers wanted to manipulate the pressure of social opinions by changing the
time between the two selection periods. The first time participants selected their

the most important lifestyle choices. We have known since before the Middle Ages of the benefits of
regular physical activity. Studies began in about the 1950's to discover how exercise improved

reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, some cancers, and improve mental health

Making The Right Choice In Tuck Everlasting By Natalie...
Throughout Tuck Everlasting, by Natalie Babbitt, there were many examples of how making the
right choice isn't always easy. One example is when Winnie told Jesse that she wants to help the
Tucks with the escape plan of Mae from the gallows. Even though Winnie knew that she'll get in
trouble for going out in the middle of the night, she still took the risk. Another example is when
Miles knew about the spring water, but didn't bring his family to the spring. He made a sacrifice for
the Tucks, keeping the secret safe from anyone else. The last example is when Mae killed the man in
the yellow suit when he was trying to take away Winnie. Even though Mae knew about the
consequences, she still did it in order to protect Winnie. Through analyzing the ... Show more

Many of the characters in Tuck Everlasting shows making the right choice, but it wasn't easy for
them, some had to sacrifice a lot of things. One of the characters is Winnie, on page 114 it states, "I

myself up in her blanket, and when the constable looks in, he won't be able to tell the difference. Not
in the dark. I can hump up and look a lot bigger. Miles can even put the window back." Even though
Winnie made the right choice, she knew that she might lose the trust of her family members, but she
still took the risk. She knew that Mae got sent to the gallows because Mae was protecting her.
Another character that has been through this is Miles. On page 84 it states, "Winnie looked at his

them the special water?" "Well, of course, we didn't realize about the spring while we

Cake Decorating: Homemade or Store Bought? Essay
There are so many reasons to need a cake; from birthdays to weddings and everything in–between.
When a cake is needed; the first question I ask myself is, do I make it or go to the store? Sometimes
we order a cake when we need one; pre–made and decorated. Other times we make them and their
decorations. Depending on the circumstances in which the cake is needed one of the choices may
work more effectively. How does someone know to buy or make a cake? There is a lot to consider
when choosing to make a cake with love or buy one from the store. One thing we should think about
when we need a cake; is the amount of time we have to get it where it needs to be. When someone
buys a cake they have two choices when it comes to time. They can pick ... Show more content on

Same with the decorations and what is used to make them. Small homemade decorated cakes can
also very in price. But at a 10–20 dollar margin it is still the cheapest way to go. Something else that
is important to this decision to bake or buy are taste and texture. When buying a cake at stores; in
my experience, the frosting is way too sweet or hard as a rock. Another thing stores do is use those
hard pieces of colored sugar to decorate. They also use those edible sheets to print pictures on and
slap them on the cake. In my opinion they both taste terrible. When choosing to make decorations
there are way more choices for ingredients and flavors. Any candy, cookie or pretzel we can imagine
can be used to decorate a cake. I learned many tricks for decorating from Cake Boss on TLC. From
making rock candy for coral to sculpting rice crispy treats into various shapes and covering them in
modeling chocolate. Most food taste better when made at home instead of the store; this goes for
cake decorations. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder; (so they say) and this is true for either
cake/decorating choice. If the cake is store bought it should look presentable (be easy on the eyes)
and if it does not look nice get your money back. When making decorations for a cake take breaks
when needed. So stress does not take over the fun. Also we should try not to be so hard on ourselves
if something we are making does not turn out right. It is

Personal Statement : Hanging Out With The Wrong Crowd
Hanging out with the wrong crowd leads to unintended consequences. It does not matter how smart
I am, if the people around me are not smart then I will be judged the same as them. An individual's
own self–importance is overlooked when the whole crowd is involved. That is the lesson that I
learned this summer. I obtained the knowledge of the importance of personal responsibility as to
who I surround myself with. I did not realize the importance of having privileges' until I lost them. I
learned that good friendships are a privilege, that hanging out with the wrong crowd leads to nothing
but trouble, and that their trouble will lead to my privileges being revoked. The lesson that I learned
was to be more responsible about my choices and the people that I surround myself with. I did not
appreciate the privilege I had to hang out with my best friend every day until the day we both got
grounded. My best friend and I are both intelligent people, but we made the wrong choice of
hanging out with an unintelligent crowd. When I was tempted by the wrong crowd to make a risky
choice of sneaking out, I simply did not realize the trouble that could follow. It wasn't my best friend
that made the choice to sneak out, it was me. However, she did it with me as we did not do anything
without each other. We could have stayed at her house and made the right choice, but we didn't and
we learned our lesson. That wrong choice resulted in the unintended consequence of losing the
privilege to see

Parents A Choice For Children : Parents Making A Choice
Parents Making a Choice
Parents often complain how video games are too violent for their children and that it could have a
negative impact towards their behavior. That can be true if the child is given a game that is rated
higher than its intended audience. Even if it sounds like an unwise choice to give a kid a violent
game, it's up to the parent to decide if their kids get a rated "E" for everyone game or a rated "M" for
mature game. Children should defiantly not be given game titles that aren't intended for them. It can
affect them negatively if they are given a game not suitable for them.
What every parent who cares about what their children are playing for their entertainment should do
is read the ESRB rating system. The rating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One journalist said "gaming can impact your socializing skills, sleep schedule, and even your
performance in school", which shows it's affects towards kids playing violent games.
This plan will work because parents will have a really helpful way to make a good purchase and will
have no way being able to be ignorant to what they buy. They will have to see if the game is safe, as
soon as they realize that it's not for a younger audience they can just leave it behind and get
something else. Hopefully this way a less percentage of kids won't end up playing violent games,
that way it won't have a negative impact towards their lives. This will prevent you from seeing kids
fist fighting in the school hallways or constantly hearing them swearing to their online opponents on
their microphone headsets. When I was at the age of 16–17 I was given video games like GTA or
Bioshock as gifts from my parents, but my parents were responsible enough to have already helped
me distinguish from what's right and what's wrong. When I was younger around 10 years sold I was
simply not allowed to play violent video games, this proves to be effective because I don't act like
any of the characters in the video games because I know it's all just entertainment and nothing more.

Making Choices, Particularly Educational Choices Essay
I have conducted a study on the topic of making choices, particularly educational choices. I have
carried out this study in an attempt to figure out what factors students are most influenced by when
choosing which post–secondary institution to attend, as well as other decisions they have made
regarding their post–secondary education. Specifically, I tried to find what factors have the greatest
influence on students when making decisions on what to major in and what particular courses to
take. For this study, I selected three questions regarding educational choices that I have asked five
students whom I chose to interview. This study utilizes qualitative research methods as qualitative
research methods employ verbal reports while quantitative research methods typically do not
employ verbal reports and are preferred for their precision (Palys, 2014, p. 16). In other words, this
study utilizes interviews to acquire data, rather than using numbers or statistical data. Furthermore,
in qualitative research methods, researchers listen to their participants in an attempt to comprehend
theoretically crucial dimensions from their participants ' perspective and try to incorporate that into
their analysis (Palys, 2014, p. 11). In conducting this study, I listened to what the participants told
me and tried to come to a conclusion by incorporating their experiences into my analysis, hence this
is another qualitative approach that I employed. The method of participant selection that I

Free Will Controls Fate

by a higher power. In the Hunger Games, Kato stabs Peta and Katniss stumbles across blood and
decides to follow it. She finds him and it was her decision to follow the trail of blood that saved his
life. Everyone is born with an undecided future and the choice we make can lead us to what we are
supposed to do. Our free will gives us options, which could lead to multiple different paths and
destinies. Our free will may go against our morals and values. In the bible, Adam and Eve went

Making difficult decisions show up in life more often than...
Making difficult decisions show up in life more often than realized. These choices can alter a
person's life in good and bad ways. "The Bicycle" by Jillian Horton is a story that focuses on a
young talented pianist named Hannah. Throughout the story Hannah deals with the strict teachings
of her Tante Rose, which leads her to make ironic decisions. Similarly, in the story "Lather and

moral values before making his final decision. Both stories have a protagonist that face conflicts

Horton and Tellez both portray the theme of making difficult choices in their stories. The
protagonist's in each story consider all their options and think ahead before making a life changing
decision. In the stories "The Bicycle" and "Lather and Nothing Else" both Horton and Tellez use
symbolism to portray an overall theme of making difficult choices. In "The Bicycle" Hannah has her
life completely controlled by her Tante Rose. She has no freedom because she is forbidden to break
the Sabbath in anyway, and due to Tante Rose's previous traumatic experience with a bicycle, she is
absolutely forbidden to ride one. In the end, Hannah chooses to go against her aunts wishes and
rides a bicycle. She expresses that she wanted to "prove she had some control over her own life"
(Horton 35). The bicycle acts as a symbol of freedom; from Hannah breaking the promise she made
to her Tante Rose, to having control of her own life and becoming who she wanted to be from the
start. Likewise, in "Lather and Nothing Else" the barber untimely had a choice of being a murderer
or hero. The razor blade is one of the most important symbols because it represents his choice of
killing the captain or not. This was how the barber would determine his future. He says, "I was
stropping my best blade". (Tellez 346). "My fate hangs on the edge of this razor blade". (Tellez 346).
This was a big moral dilemma for the barber, and at this point he was really choosing what kind of
person he wanted to

The Problem Of Making Unethical Choices
The problem of making unethical choices due to 'systematic corruption' and 'administrative evil'
(Svara, 2015,p.110) o Systematic corruption occurs when the military system of following orders,
apply directly in the public service, forces participants to follow instructions and punished those
who resist, even though the instructions is unethical and it means the suffering of some citizens. o
Government claimed to have been abide by and maintain law and order, but contradicted by their
practices.
 They unwilling to release a criminal suspect who is a military officer. o Administrative evil occurs
when military and police officers hide behind the government political and administrative system
such as the constitution and other decrees, to abuse their powers and acting unethically. o Sense of
duty are misdirected, and ethical standard are distorted in order to justify unethical behavior. o
Failing to recognize the limits of obedience, and presume that one is required to obey regardless of
what the order entails (Bazerman, 2011).

In Scott Mccloud's novel Making comics there are five choices. These five choices are what makes
up a comic book. They regard imagery, pacing, dialogue, and more. The five choices are choice of
moment, choice of frame, choice of image, choice of word, and choice of flow. Out of all these
options I chose choice of moment and choice of image. There are many methods in which each
choice can be shown and in the short film "The present" choice of moment is shown. It is shown by
a panel to panel transition and this transition is called action to action. In the short film the puppy is

economy in 2009 – there is right now a wide crevice between its potential and its acknowledgment.
Heterogeneity, scale, convenience, intricacy, and protection issues with Big Data block progress at
all periods of the pipeline that can make esteem from information. The estimation of information
blasts when it can be connected with other information, subsequently information combination is a
noteworthy maker of quality. Since most information is directly produced in advance today, we have
the open door and the test both to impact the creation to encourage later linkage and to naturally
interface already made information. We trust that fitting interest in Big Data will prompt another
rush of central mechanical advances that will be epitomized in the following eras of Big Data
administration and investigation stages, items, and frameworks. The interest in Big Data,
legitimately coordinated, can result in major investigative advances, as well as establish the
framework for the up and coming era of advances in science, solution, and business.

The Chrysalids Character Analysis
Humans around the world all suffer from challenges in their lives, but some emerge as heroes. The
novel The Chrysalids by John Wyndham (1955) shows how a person can struggle by wanting to
save those people that are different. David, the protagonist, is considered a hero because of the
challenges he faces along with how he compares to the beliefs of those around him and the choices
he makes.
David's heroic instincts first emerge through the challenges he faces when he is growing up in
Waknuk. To begin, David sees the struggles of Aunt Harriet, starting with how she begs Emily to
trade babies for a day to trick the inspector along with how she dies because she had a baby who
was different. David is frightened by this experience and prays because "[he does not] want to be
different" (30). This is a challenge for David because he has an ability that the others who are not
different do not know about. If they find out about these abilities, they will send him away or do
something worse, especially since he is the only son of the most pious man in Waknuk.****
Secondly, when growing up he is raised by a careless mother and a cruel father, making it hard for
him to live. For example, when David is injured due to a splinter running through his hand, his
family is too busy and chooses to ignore his injury. Because of this, David starts to think if he had an
extra hand he would not have had to bother anybody, and would have been able to take care of his
injury by himself, which

Suide in The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost and Dreams of...
"Suicide Note" by Janice Mirikitani, "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost, and "Dreams of
Suicide" by William Meredith are the three poems that connect together in several different ways.
Not only do the poems link together, but the authors do as well. This paper will present biographical
information about the authors, symbols throughout the poems, and the literary elements the authors
chose to use in the poems. It will also explain how the symbols and literary elements that are used
help emphasize the themes that the authors have chosen.
Author of the poem "Suicide Note," Janice Miriktani was born in 1941 (Bostian). Her writing
journey began in 1965. Janice published her first volume out of four in 1978. Janice, just like many
other writers, had struggles throughout her life. Janice was sexually abused by her family and was
forced to keep it a secret (Bostian). One out of her four volumes of poetry stemmed from the tragic
events that she had faced. It is "Shedding Silence: Poetry and Prose," and contains a total of 35
poems, a short play entitled "Shedding Silence," and some short stories (Bostian). Because
Mirikitani sought to break the cycle of violence created by her past that is set by being silent, her
tone is angry and aggressive in most poems. Her family was also involved in World War II conflicts
(Bostian). Since she was Japanese–American, she was often mistreated due to the harsh stereotype
thrust upon her during the World War. Deirdre Lashgare says,

Making a Case for Pro-Choice
Abortion is the expulsion of the products of conception before the embryo or fetus is viable. If
anything happens before the 28th week of a pregnancy, it is known as an abortion. Most people do
not get the whole picture about abortions and how they work and why they should be able to
happen. If the pregnancy risked the mother's life, would you still have the child? This is why
abortions should be allowed because of serious situations like this. No other person can tell you
what to do with your body so why would you tell someone to have a child they do not want? Think
about it. If you really thought about the situation at hand, you would comprehend the other point of
view we are trying to make. Just because certain people view abortions as something that is against
humanity doesn't mean that state laws should make it illegal.
Abortions are a very serious issue that everyone around the world has to hear about or deal with.
The fact that they want to make it illegal in the US to have an abortion is not right. Certain states in
the US have trigger laws where it's illegal to get an abortion after the first and second trimesters. It's
illegal to get an abortion in most countries but women still find a way to get an abortion. A legal
abortion accordance with the local law is one of the safest procedures in today's medicine but still
has some complications later on. Even though having an illegal abortion is very dangerous, women
still go through with it. Having to get a legal

The Meaning Of Happiness And What Does Happiness Means To Us
What does the word happiness mean to us? To many the word happiness can be just a term but to
others the word has a different meaning, a more valuable meaning. Happiness can be seen or
expressed and it's important because of how it keeps motivating individuals that good decisions can
be made and noticed that they have support. Although, happiness is just an emotion, that is the act of
kindness that opens an individual to realize what they have in there hands. And when there's
someone there for you when needed, noticing the positive side and just moving with the flow by
doing the work or doing what's best, and knowing happiness comes from ourselves it creates a
tension that is amazing.
When there is someone for you, supporting your actions and looking at how great your gonna be
able to go through life, even when it could be hard at times, it will amaze that person there for you.
It doesn't mean that it has to be a family member but if it was a precise friend that gets to notice how
great you are and they have your back and are willing to support you, it get's to a point where it
begins to motivate you to keep going forward and impressing that specific person that's always
there. For example, "wonder if everything you have ever thought about life choices". This statement
is true to what is being explained because of the expression that comes after. It makes people happy
because they know they did the right choice and it even made others happy to see or hear about.

Making Own Choices
Francessica Battiestelli sang the lyrics "It's your life whatcha gonna do, the world is watching you."
The lyrics explain that you can do what you want, but be careful because people are watching you.
People make their own choices all the time. Making your own decisions is better than listening to
others because you won't make bad decisions again, self wellness, and independence. First and
foremost people should make their own verdict so they won't make the same mistake again. It's
beneficial to learn from your mistakes to help you in the future. When you're learning how to do

Comparing Grendel And The Epic Of Beowulf
Stephan King once said "No one really forces you to do anything, you always have a choice" (King).
Grendel, in both the self–titled novel and the epic, Beowulf, had a choice. He chose to make the
wrong decisions and act solely based upon his feelings. Even though others feel Grendel is a
monster because of fate, and he is destined to become a monster either way, Grendel is really a
monster due to free will and Grendel 's loneliness, plus lack of communication causes him to be
violent as well as Grendel knowing what he is doing and is aware of the choices he is making.
Most, if not all of Grendel's aggression comes from him being very lonely. In the novel, Grendel
said "Why can't I have someone to talk to...Hrothgar has people to talk to" (Gardner, 53). Grendel
didn't have anyone he could just talk to about everything and that frustrated him. To him, it seems
like everyone has someone, except him. Another example that shows that Grendel's loneliness and
lack of communication causes him to be violent is in Beowulf when the epic explains: "So Grendel
waged his lonely war, inflicting constant cruelties on the people, atrocious hurt. He took over
Heorot, haunted the glittering hall after dark, but the throne itself, the treasure–seat, he was kept
from approaching; he was the Lord's outcast" (Beowulf, 165–169). This quote is clarifying how
Grendel did all of this by himself and didn't care of anyone who was in his way either. Although he
is lonely, he chooses to use that as

Essay about Making Good Choices.
Making Good Choices
By: Keria Owens
Making choices can affect any and everything in your life whether it's dealing with your family or
just everyday situations. Everyone in life is faced with good and bad choices that can either have a
good outcome on your life or it can make a turn for the worst. Yes, everyone wants to make good
choices in life. But does that always happen? Nine times out of ten know. Recently, I made a bad
choice that affected my life in numerous ways for instance when I got caught shoplifting my parents
looked down on me as if I was this thief. I'm very embarrassed of my actions but there's nothing I
can do to erase it I can only make this a learning experience and make better choices next time
around. As teenagers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Often times it can be difficult if not impossible to make what you think at that moment will be the
right choice. One of the biggest factors that will hold people back is that to too often than not we are
not completely clear on what type of result or outcome we want from a situation. Think about it, if
you don't really know what kind of result you want it is going to be pretty hard to know what choice
is going to be the right one. So what do you do? You get a clear understanding, before you make any
choice. Think about its effects in the long term, and short term. Knowing exactly what you want is
very powerful. We have all heard the golden rule; do onto others as you would have them do onto
you. This is probably one of the most important ideas to keep in mind when making good choices.
When we are young a lot of us develop this me, me, me, attitude. We want all the toys, and we don't
want to share. Now this mentality may get us a lot of toys, but it defiantly doesn't help you make
friends. In this day and age a large part of personal success is based on working with others to
achieve our goals. If we can help others get what they want, it will be much easier and they will be
much more willing to help us get what we want. So when making any choice it is always ideal to
think about how can I

The, Career Choice, And Making A Difference
The choice of career is a significant factor that establishes if someone's life is happy or unhappy,
fruitful or not productive, admirable or contemptible. Careers that are moral controversial are more
lucrative than those careers that are innocuous. Hence, a person earns more via moral controversial
career than a harmless job. Thus, pursuing philanthropy via moral controversial career is more
preferable. The paper discusses various subjects. First, it will discuss on the William MacAskill's

Strategic Decision Making Involved Business Level Choices
Introduction
Strategic Decision making involved business level choices. It influences complete or a major part of
the organization. It's a step towards the long term goals of the business as well as in the achievement
of the common goals of the business enterprise. They are generally unstructured in nature and come
from a top down approach. Therefore a manager has to break them down into smaller structured
decision making and short term goals.
Tactical Decisions are basically related to the implementation of such strategic long term goals.
They are divisional in nature as they are a broken part of the strategic framework from an
implementation point of view. They basically originate from the middle level and are also performed
from the middle as well as low level employees. It not a requirement to break them down as tactical
decisions are already straight forward, structured and easy to implement by the lower staff members.
A. The idea to step into the distribution of handbags seems to be a strategic decision as per the
definition written above. It involves a long term goal of expansion of the company. Also the venture
of going into a new product line is not an implementation process because it is unstructured in
nature and the plan needs to simplify to be implemented.
B. The basic criteria to judge whether an investment has increased shareholders equity or not is to
check the profitability ratios of the companies. It can be analyzed by anyone who even doesn't have

Choice Making In Ayn Rand's Anthem
In the book, Anthem, there's a constant theme of choice making. The author, Ayn Rand, writes the
book through the eyes of Equality 7–2521 and the readers see all the choices he makes against his
society. The community that Equality 7–2521 lives in is makes it a very controlled and isolated life
for him. His decisions in the beginning of the book, and his life before this book takes place, are
decisions that are premade for him. His decisions aren't really his decisions, they're rules that he
knows he has to obey, so in a way, he does make choices by following the rules. Equality obeys the
rules and the job that is chosen for him. Even though he wanted to be in the Home of the Scholars,
he does his job as a Street Sweeper. He wants to be able to contribute to the Scholars, and has many
ideas on how to. When he finds the underground tunnel, he choices to keep it a secret, and use it to

decides he shouldn't hide the light from the community, and that he and the Scholars could work

An Ordinary Piece Of Human Choice Making Process
Contrasting one thing and another is an ordinary piece of human choice making process. Be that as
it may, it is not generally simple to comprehend what to analyze and what are the options. To
address this trouble, creator show a novel approach to naturally mine tantamount substances from
relative inquiries that clients posted on the web. To guarantee high exactness and high review, we
build up a pitifully directed bootstrapping technique for similar inquiry leveraging so as to
distinguish proof and equivalent substance extraction a vast online inquiry chronicle. The trial
results demonstrate our system accomplishes F1–measure of 82.5% in similar inquiry distinguishing
proof and 83.3% in equivalent element extraction. Both fundamentally beat a current best in class
system. Introduction Looking at option choices is one crucial stride in choice making that we do
each day. For instance, on the off chance that somebody is keen on specific items, for example,
computerized cameras, he or she would need to realize what the options are and think about
distinctive cameras before making a buy. This kind of examination action is extremely regular in our
day by day life however requires high information expertise. Magazines, for example, Consumer

The Beauty Of This Story Being Narrated By Rebecca
Told by Rebecca, one of the 13–year–old twins that has been born and raised in a strict
fundamentalist Christian sect. The story begins with the family moving to the South Island, and then
follows the young girls as they go through the exciting, yet nerve wracking, time of becoming
betrothed. Exciting because the girls wish to fulfil their "godly duties"; nerve wracking because they
know they have no choice in who they will be ordered to marry. The novel is harrowing at times, as
the sect uses selective Bible teachings to maintain control over their followers. They also use "The
Rule", a set of laws developed by leaders, to keep order – though these rules seem mainly concerned
with controlling the minds and bodies of women. However, the beauty of this story being narrated
by Rebecca is that the details of life in the sect are presented in a non–judgmental way. Rebecca is
simply stating the way things are – it is all she knows – so it is not a better or worse way of life, it
just is. The ending is particularly powerful. I could imagine the impact the running away scene
would have if it occurred in real life. I highly recommend this book to everyone – in fact, because
Beale authored the novel as a non–biased account of moral choices Rebecca as well as others had to
make and the intolerance of difference that the Children of the Faith showed. I think it should be
compulsory reading to help develop a society more understanding and empathetic of difference. I

Examples Of Heroicism In John Updike's Short Story 'A & P'
To be heroic means that a person chooses to be brave and do the right thing even if doing the right
thing seems less rewarding, is more difficult, or both. The protagonist in John Updike's short story
"A & P" is not heroic. In the story, the protagonist sees three girls dressed in only bathing suits enter
the store he was working in, and his manager told them that they were not allowed to wear
swimsuits in the store. Then Sammy stands up for the girls and quits his job in hopes of impressing
them. When examining Sammy motivation, actions, and the other choices he could have made it is
obvious that what he did was not heroic. He decided that trying to impress a girl that is a stranger is
more important than doing what is right. Considering the other course of action Sammy could have
taken, it would have required him to be more courageous and do what is just. Being heroic is the
equivalent of being a hero, and Sammy was not a true hero.
To be able to understand why Sammy is not heroic, it is important to consider what motivated him.
The story opens up with three girls who enter a store only wearing bathing suits and Sammy is
clearly attracted to them. Especially, the girl he calls Queenie as he describes her as being, "...more
than pretty" (pg. 60). As Sammy is ringing up her order, he observes Queenie's hand and comments
on how she does not have a ring or a bracelet. Since Queenie does not have a ring or bracelet,
Sammy probably believes that she is single and finds her hand to

Comparing The Giver By Louis Lowry And Divergent, By...
"One choice decides your friends, one choice defines your beliefs, and one choice determines your
loyalties– forever. One choice can transform you." (Roth). All human beings have the power to
make their own choices. Making a single choice has the ability to change people's lives dramatically
and to enable people to grow more mature. Both, The Giver, by Louis Lowry, and Divergent, by
Veronica Roth, allow us to see how choice is crucial and how those choices we make affect almost
every aspect of our lives. Although both books discuss the same theme, choice, Louis Lowry and
Veronica Roth use completely different techniques and methods to portray the power of choice. Both
texts share the idea that making a single choice is significant, ... Show more content on

However, unlike Veronica Roth, Louis Lowry places her story in a different setting to portray the
prominence a choice can have. Try to envision a world where everybody is the same and there is no
choice or freedom, that is story of The Giver. Louis Lowry eliminated choice out of the Jonas's
world. Some people might wonder, if there is no choice, how can The Giver even talk about
importance of choice? Well, Louis Lowry made the protagonist, Jonas, to realize the true happiness
and significance of choice throughout the book. Although Jonas's world didn't give any freedom of
choice to people, Jonas experiences having it indirectly through memories. He learns about choosing
different colors, having emotions, and choosing to do something. In fact, when Jonas realizes that he
can't live without having freedom of choice, he decides to leave his home, also known as his
Community, like Tris left Abnegation. On the way of heading to Elsewhere, Jonas gets hurt and
exhausted. This is a totally different life compared to his Community life where he was safe, and
everything was peaceful. He now even has to make choices and do things on his own. It is clear that
due to one choice, Jonas's life has been dramatically changed. Through Jonas's choice and his life,
Louis Lowry had successfully shown significance of choice in The

Choices In The Giver, By Lois Lowry
Life is a matter of choices, and every choice you make makes you. – John C. Maxwell. In the novel
The Giver, Lois Lowry shows the reader how choices in life are important, and should be made by
us, not for us. Lowry uses characters such as Jonas and the giver to illustrate how choices should be
made by us. She uses other characters such as Jonas's father to reflect how people are often blinded
by the standards of society and do not realize they can actually make their own choices. With these
characters, The Giver illustrates how choices are often made for us by figures of authority.
Jonas is essentially the only character to realize that choices are made for everyone. He is the only

Jonas's father obliviously follows the rules of the community, not stopping to think for even a
second that maybe things could be different, that life could be better. He is among all the other
oblivious citizens in the community doing his job without realizing what he is truly doing. Jonas's
father is a nurturer, meaning he takes care of the newly born children. He is required to 'release' a
certain number of newborns per year. The community is told that this means they send the child off
into a new community, but Jonas learns the truth, which is, they are put to death. As Jonas was
watching a video of his father doing the 'release ceremony' he yelled "he killed it! My father killed
it!" (56) Jonas could not believe that the community had been lying to everyone forever, or that his
own father would do such a thing and lie about it. Later on in the novel, we learn that love is not
existent in this society. After Jonas and the giver had talked about love and what it is, Jonas decided
to ask his own parents how they felt about him. Jonas stated "'do you love me?' There was an
awkward silence for a moment. Then Father gave a little chuckle 'Jonas. You, of all people.
Precision of language please!'" (71) This shows that love is not something that exists within the
community, seeing as love would require a connection between two individuals, created

Choices Commercial

  • 1. Choices Commercial The Nutrigrain Choices commercial begins with a woman getting off the subway and moves to her working in her office. The screen splits and two scenarios are set forward: one where she chose to eat a Nutrigrain bar on the left and the other where she chose a donut on the right. There is a voice– over about one decision leading to another. The woman on the left is shown eating a burrito, brownie, and pasta as the commercial continues. On the right, we see her choosing a salad, a cup of fruit, and vegetables. The woman on the right is seen walking up an escalator with a smile while her counterpart rides up with a wearied expression. The woman on the left walks away after drying her face, but the one on the right continues looking at her face with a smile. An image of wheat appears and shifts to picture of Nutrigrain's strawberry cereal bar, as the audience is told the product is made with real fruit and whole grains. The commercial is targeting a large audience of adults and teens. Most individuals in these two groups are often busy, having little time to make or choose healthy food. Younger children often look to adults and would not be old enough to understand the message being conveyed. For this reason, the commercial uses a central character that audience can relate to, a working woman that is constantly on the go. Her action and surroundings reflect common places a person would go to and the people they are surrounded by. The audience is being told that a "good decision," ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Face The Complexity Involved For Making Ethical Choices "Face the complexity involved in making ethical choices." – Linda Fischer Thornton Identify and discuss the influences (family, culture, religion, etc...) on your personal ethics. Analyze and discuss these influences in relation to one or more classical ethics philosophies (deontology, utilitarianism, etc...). Reflect and comment on the Georgetown Ethos in light of the influences on your personal ethics. Ethics act as a basis of distinguishing between right and wrong and thus, determine what actions one takes on a daily basis. As individuals, we are confronted with the reality of rules or laws that we personally believe are unjust or immoral. This reality applies to the wider society we are members of, the organisation we work for, and within our personal circles of friendship and family. According to Socrates, ethics – which is the practice of becoming excellent at being human – is always conducted with respect to something (Thornton, 2013). It can be argued that ethics are not inherent due to the differing personal ethics found through the world; a person's ethics are learned not only from personal experiences but families, friends, and teacher, and we learn right and wrong solely from social conditioning. As we develop however, we sometimes face difficulty in making ethical choices – be it in an educational institution or the work place. This paper will discuss personal ethics, and analyse its impact on decision making in professional, academic and personal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Preparing An Expert When Making Our Next Investment Choice Purpose: Introduction/background of problem The purpose of this report is to help determine if it is better to consult an expert when making our next investment choice. There are still three primary options we have to choose from in order to make our decisions. The option we have are to invest in real estate, retail franchise just for hats, or high yield municipal bonds. The decision was made to look at two possible outcomes for each equation instead of three. The hope was that we will be able to help simply the process by doing this action. The interests are whether the market will be Favorable or Unfavorable, so we have collapsed the Medium and Low outcomes. With each of these options there are different levels of risk that have to be considered in our decision making process. Forecasts serve as decision support tools that allow leaders to plan for the future by performing "what–if" analyses to determine how changes in inputs affects outcomes (Nordmeyer, 2015). In this scenario we are trying to determine if it is cost effective to consult an expert for hi forecasting service due to the fee he charges for his services. We are going to conduct further analysis to determine the value of the information the expert will provide. Excel Analysis A decision tree will be utilized to help us determine if there is any value in consulting an expert on our next business investment. Decision trees are sequential models, which logically combine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Making Choices Research Paper Making choices and decisions is a part of life. Simply put, the way life unfolds, with its twists and turns, starts and stops, requires us to make choices and decisions every step of the way. Choices may seem very small in reality time, but they can be huge when it comes to the outcome of your future. In my life, I have had to make many important choices. Without some of these crucial choices, I may or may not have been typing this letter. One of these very important choices is where I decided to attend my high school education. Choosing where you attend high school is very important because wherever you go, you must trust that the institution will prepare you for college as well as life. Some of the circumstances that influence my choice to go to go to Villa Angela – St. Joseph High school was my family, my location, and the foundation and reputation of the school. My family helped me through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first choice that will help me be a successful person has to do with spiritual life. I think that I need to build a better relationship with God and trust his reasoning for all things. Along with this, I must choose to understand that his reasoning is much greater than mine. Decisions in academics are also very important as well. Academically, to be successful, one big choice I will have to pick is what I want to do in college for my major. College is the beginning stages of being an adult, and what major you set up in is going to prepare you to get a job in that field years after college. Last but not least, personally, a choice I need to make to succeed is to make sure that I always have faith in myself and in my capabilities. In life, there are not many things or people that you can truly count on. But if you have internal belief in yourself at all times, that will take you very far. • 9. Chronic Diseases: Making Positive Lifestyle Choices Assignment #5: Op–Ed Post (Need a title) Did you know that chronic diseases, such as heart disease, cancer, and stroke account for 7 out of 10 deaths in the United States? About half of the adults have one or more chronic diseases. These numbers are unacceptable and the worst thing is that this issue is becoming more serious because the percentages are rising. The biggest problem is that some people do not make positive lifestyle choices. There are many ways how we can improve our health and a few of them include exercising, getting enough sleep, not smoking and eating healthy, well–balanced diet. The latter can be improved if we would make better food choices. It is essential that the information about different food products is correct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There have been many changes since that time, including new dietary recommendations, new information about nutrient definitions and reference intake values. All this new knowledge must be available to the public because it complies with current health trends and would help us improve our diets. Doctors say that including some added sugar in our diet is fine. But the truth is that most people consume too much added sugar and they have a higher risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, type II diabetes, dental caries, and unnecessary weight. Excessive body weight increases the risk for the most chronic diseases. Did you know that an average American is consuming almost 66 pounds of added sugars every year? This is a very important matter and this problem must be addressed! As we all know, food labels tell us how much sugar does each product contain. But do we know how much of the sugar is natural and useful for us and how much is added? One of the most important changes in the rule "Food Labeling: Revision of the Nutrition and Supplement Facts Labels" is the addition of the declaration of "added sugars". It would help us distinguish these two different sugars and assist in making the right decisions in our food ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He seems to admit his responsibility (Destiny, Fate, Free Will and Free Choice in Oedipus the King – Free Will). The prophecy to Jocasta and Lauis is a fate. However, they make a free will decision to leave Oedipus to die by giving him to the servant, but actually it is starting to fulfill the prophecy (Fate and Free–Will in Sophocles' Oedipus the King). If they do not send Oedipus to death, he most likely will not kill Lauis at the crossroads. Furthermore, Oedipus chooses to be angry at Teiresias. He insults and bullies the seer into revealing himself is the killer of Lauis causing the plague that affects the Theban citizens and living things. • 15. Life Is Not Fair In The Cold Equations, By Tom Godwin Life is Not Fair Wise words from Dr. Steve Maraboli include, "The only thing that makes life unfair is the delusion that life should be fair." Humans are deluded or misled that life will be easy, but that is not the case. Logically, this connects to the short story The Cold Equations written by Tom Godwin because the main character Marilyn Cross is required to make a hard decision relating to life being staggeringly unfair, which ends in an inequitable, extreme outcome. Marilyn makes a choice early in the story that results in her death. Hard choices, such as Marilyn's choice, are a part of everyday life because life is not fair. In the story, hard choices are caused because laws are unforgiving and the right choice is not always the easy choice. A probable cause of life not being fair is that laws are unforgiving, everlasting, and unappeasable. Similarly, Marilyn, a young girl who wanted to spend quality time with her brother, made a choice to board a spaceship to visit her brother. On the spaceship, stowaways like Marilyn are unwanted and cannot stay. However, she did not know that the spaceship had such laws. Once Marilyn became a stowaway on the spaceship, it no longer had enough fuel to reach its destination; therefore, Marilyn must die. Marilyn advises, "It was the law, and there could be no appeal" (10). The law is unforgiving, and it does not accept changes. Likewise, Marilyn searches for alternate options other than dying, ways to change the law, and ways to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Title of the reviewed article: Physical Order Produces Healthy Choices, Generosity, and Conventionality, Whereas Disorder Produces Creativity Reviewer's name: Dolkira Alkisti 1. Summary The main aim of this study was to show that physical settings could have an impact on human behaviour and decision–making. More specifically, the authors hypothesized that orderly environments promote healthy food choices, generosity and convention, whilst disorderly settings foster creativity. In the three experiments conducted, each participant was placed in a room (half of the participants in an orderly condition and the other half in a disorderly). In the first experiment, 34 Dutch students were tested as to whether being in an organized setting can influence preferences of food choices and donating money to a charity, in comparison to a messy environment. The second experiment measured the influence of the environmental order concerning creativity in 48 American students. In the third experiment, the authors measured the preference for a new or a classic option in 188 American adults. As regards the outcomes of the experiments, the participants in a non– organized setting made less healthy food choices and donated less money compared to the participants in the orderly room. Furthermore, they produced ideas that are more creative and showed a preference towards the new rather than the classic choice in contrast to the participants that were located in a tidy condition. • 21. Understanding Social Influence On Online Choice Purpose of the Study To Switch or Not to Switch: Understanding Social Influence in Online Choice is a study that was focused on the role of social influence in online recommender systems. Haiyi Zhu and Bernardo A. Huberman, the authors of the study, were interested in studying how often peoples' choices are affected by other individuals' endorsements. The hypothesis of the study is that individuals "are more likely to reverse their opinions when the reversion causes less self–inconsistency (the confirmation pressure is weaker) or the opposing social opinions are stronger (the conformity pressure is stronger)". Methodology The researchers conducted various online experiments. The participants in the study went to the Rankr website to select their preference of one image out of two images displayed. They first did this with no knowledge of what people before them picked. The second time the participants had indications of what others had chosen. The researchers were trying to determine whether seeing other peoples' preferences affected the participants' choices. This setup allowed for social influence to be measured based on if people changed their selections between the two instances. The researchers wanted to see if the participants changed their mind after seeing what others preferred. In addition, the researchers wanted to manipulate the pressure of social opinions by changing the time between the two selection periods. The first time participants selected their ... One example is when Winnie told Jesse that she wants to help the Tucks with the escape plan of Mae from the gallows. Even though Winnie knew that she'll get in trouble for going out in the middle of the night, she still took the risk. Another example is when Miles knew about the spring water, but didn't bring his family to the spring. He made a sacrifice for the Tucks, keeping the secret safe from anyone else. The last example is when Mae killed the man in the yellow suit when he was trying to take away Winnie. Even though Mae knew about the consequences, she still did it in order to protect Winnie. I can wrap myself up in her blanket, and when the constable looks in, he won't be able to tell the difference. Not in the dark. I can hump up and look a lot bigger. Miles can even put the window back." Even though Winnie made the right choice, she knew that she might lose the trust of her family members, but she still took the risk. She knew that Mae got sent to the gallows because Mae was protecting her. Another character that has been through this is Miles. When a cake is needed; the first question I ask myself is, do I make it or go to the store? Sometimes we order a cake when we need one; pre–made and decorated. Other times we make them and their decorations. Depending on the circumstances in which the cake is needed one of the choices may work more effectively. How does someone know to buy or make a cake? There is a lot to consider when choosing to make a cake with love or buy one from the store. One thing we should think about when we need a cake; is the amount of time we have to get it where it needs to be. When someone buys a cake they have two choices when it comes to time. They can pick ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Same with the decorations and what is used to make them. Small homemade decorated cakes can also very in price. But at a 10–20 dollar margin it is still the cheapest way to go. Something else that is important to this decision to bake or buy are taste and texture. When buying a cake at stores; in my experience, the frosting is way too sweet or hard as a rock. Another thing stores do is use those hard pieces of colored sugar to decorate. They also use those edible sheets to print pictures on and slap them on the cake. In my opinion they both taste terrible. When choosing to make decorations there are way more choices for ingredients and flavors. Any candy, cookie or pretzel we can imagine can be used to decorate a cake. I learned many tricks for decorating from Cake Boss on TLC. From making rock candy for coral to sculpting rice crispy treats into various shapes and covering them in modeling chocolate. Most food taste better when made at home instead of the store; this goes for cake decorations. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder; (so they say) and this is true for either cake/decorating choice. If the cake is store bought it should look presentable (be easy on the eyes) and if it does not look nice get your money back. When making decorations for a cake take breaks when needed. So stress does not take over the fun. Also we should try not to be so hard on ourselves if something we are making does not turn out right. It is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Personal Statement : Hanging Out With The Wrong Crowd Hanging out with the wrong crowd leads to unintended consequences. It does not matter how smart I am, if the people around me are not smart then I will be judged the same as them. An individual's own self–importance is overlooked when the whole crowd is involved. That is the lesson that I learned this summer. I obtained the knowledge of the importance of personal responsibility as to who I surround myself with. I did not realize the importance of having privileges' until I lost them. I learned that good friendships are a privilege, that hanging out with the wrong crowd leads to nothing but trouble, and that their trouble will lead to my privileges being revoked. The lesson that I learned was to be more responsible about my choices and the people that I surround myself with. I did not appreciate the privilege I had to hang out with my best friend every day until the day we both got grounded. My best friend and I are both intelligent people, but we made the wrong choice of hanging out with an unintelligent crowd. When I was tempted by the wrong crowd to make a risky choice of sneaking out, I simply did not realize the trouble that could follow. It wasn't my best friend that made the choice to sneak out, it was me. However, she did it with me as we did not do anything without each other. We could have stayed at her house and made the right choice, but we didn't and we learned our lesson. That wrong choice resulted in the unintended consequence of losing the privilege to see ... Parents A Choice For Children : Parents Making A Choice Parents Making a Choice Parents often complain how video games are too violent for their children and that it could have a negative impact towards their behavior. That can be true if the child is given a game that is rated higher than its intended audience. Even if it sounds like an unwise choice to give a kid a violent game, it's up to the parent to decide if their kids get a rated "E" for everyone game or a rated "M" for mature game. Children should defiantly not be given game titles that aren't intended for them. It can affect them negatively if they are given a game not suitable for them. One journalist said "gaming can impact your socializing skills, sleep schedule, and even your performance in school", which shows it's affects towards kids playing violent games. This plan will work because parents will have a really helpful way to make a good purchase and will have no way being able to be ignorant to what they buy. They will have to see if the game is safe, as soon as they realize that it's not for a younger audience they can just leave it behind and get something else. Hopefully this way a less percentage of kids won't end up playing violent games, that way it won't have a negative impact towards their lives. This will prevent you from seeing kids fist fighting in the school hallways or constantly hearing them swearing to their online opponents on their microphone headsets. When I was at the age of 16–17 I was given video games like GTA or Bioshock as gifts from my parents, but my parents were responsible enough to have already helped me distinguish from what's right and what's wrong. When I was younger around 10 years sold I was simply not allowed to play violent video games, this proves to be effective because I don't act like any of the characters in the video games because I know it's all just entertainment and nothing more. • 33. Making Choices, Particularly Educational Choices Essay I have conducted a study on the topic of making choices, particularly educational choices. I have carried out this study in an attempt to figure out what factors students are most influenced by when choosing which post–secondary institution to attend, as well as other decisions they have made regarding their post–secondary education. Specifically, I tried to find what factors have the greatest influence on students when making decisions on what to major in and what particular courses to take. For this study, I selected three questions regarding educational choices that I have asked five students whom I chose to interview. This study utilizes qualitative research methods as qualitative research methods employ verbal reports while quantitative research methods typically do not employ verbal reports and are preferred for their precision (Palys, 2014, p. 16). In other words, this study utilizes interviews to acquire data, rather than using numbers or statistical data. Furthermore, in qualitative research methods, researchers listen to their participants in an attempt to comprehend theoretically crucial dimensions from their participants ' perspective and try to incorporate that into their analysis (Palys, 2014, p. 11). In conducting this study, I listened to what the participants told me and tried to come to a conclusion by incorporating their experiences into my analysis, hence this is another qualitative approach that I employed. The method of participant selection that I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The protagonist's in each story consider all their options and think ahead before making a life changing decision. In the stories "The Bicycle" and "Lather and Nothing Else" both Horton and Tellez use symbolism to portray an overall theme of making difficult choices. In "The Bicycle" Hannah has her life completely controlled by her Tante Rose. She has no freedom because she is forbidden to break the Sabbath in anyway, and due to Tante Rose's previous traumatic experience with a bicycle, she is absolutely forbidden to ride one. In the end, Hannah chooses to go against her aunts wishes and rides a bicycle. She expresses that she wanted to "prove she had some control over her own life" (Horton 35). The bicycle acts as a symbol of freedom; from Hannah breaking the promise she made to her Tante Rose, to having control of her own life and becoming who she wanted to be from the start. Likewise, in "Lather and Nothing Else" the barber untimely had a choice of being a murderer or hero. The razor blade is one of the most important symbols because it represents his choice of killing the captain or not. This was how the barber would determine his future. He says, "I was stropping my best blade". (Tellez 346). "My fate hangs on the edge of this razor blade". (Tellez 346). • 45. The Chrysalids Character Analysis Humans around the world all suffer from challenges in their lives, but some emerge as heroes. The novel The Chrysalids by John Wyndham (1955) shows how a person can struggle by wanting to save those people that are different. David, the protagonist, is considered a hero because of the challenges he faces along with how he compares to the beliefs of those around him and the choices he makes. David's heroic instincts first emerge through the challenges he faces when he is growing up in Waknuk. To begin, David sees the struggles of Aunt Harriet, starting with how she begs Emily to trade babies for a day to trick the inspector along with how she dies because she had a baby who was different. David is frightened by this experience and prays because "[he does not] want to be different" (30). This is a challenge for David because he has an ability that the others who are not different do not know about. If they find out about these abilities, they will send him away or do something worse, especially since he is the only son of the most pious man in Waknuk.**** Secondly, when growing up he is raised by a careless mother and a cruel father, making it hard for him to live. For example, when David is injured due to a splinter running through his hand, his family is too busy and chooses to ignore his injury. Because of this, David starts to think if he had an extra hand he would not have had to bother anybody, and would have been able to take care of his injury by himself, which ... "Suicide Note" by Janice Mirikitani, "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost, and "Dreams of Suicide" by William Meredith are the three poems that connect together in several different ways. Not only do the poems link together, but the authors do as well. This paper will present biographical information about the authors, symbols throughout the poems, and the literary elements the authors chose to use in the poems. It will also explain how the symbols and literary elements that are used help emphasize the themes that the authors have chosen. Author of the poem "Suicide Note," Janice Miriktani was born in 1941 (Bostian). Her writing journey began in 1965. Janice published her first volume out of four in 1978. Janice, just like many other writers, had struggles throughout her life. Janice was sexually abused by her family and was forced to keep it a secret (Bostian). One out of her four volumes of poetry stemmed from the tragic events that she had faced. It is "Shedding Silence: Poetry and Prose," and contains a total of 35 poems, a short play entitled "Shedding Silence," and some short stories (Bostian). Because Mirikitani sought to break the cycle of violence created by her past that is set by being silent, her tone is angry and aggressive in most poems. Her family was also involved in World War II conflicts (Bostian). Since she was Japanese–American, she was often mistreated due to the harsh stereotype thrust upon her during the World War. If anything happens before the 28th week of a pregnancy, it is known as an abortion. Most people do not get the whole picture about abortions and how they work and why they should be able to happen. If the pregnancy risked the mother's life, would you still have the child? This is why abortions should be allowed because of serious situations like this. No other person can tell you what to do with your body so why would you tell someone to have a child they do not want? Think about it. Just because certain people view abortions as something that is against humanity doesn't mean that state laws should make it illegal. Abortions are a very serious issue that everyone around the world has to hear about or deal with. The fact that they want to make it illegal in the US to have an abortion is not right. Grendel, in both the self–titled novel and the epic, Beowulf, had a choice. He chose to make the wrong decisions and act solely based upon his feelings. Even though others feel Grendel is a monster because of fate, and he is destined to become a monster either way, Grendel is really a monster due to free will and Grendel 's loneliness, plus lack of communication causes him to be violent as well as Grendel knowing what he is doing and is aware of the choices he is making. Most, if not all of Grendel's aggression comes from him being very lonely. In the novel, Grendel said "Why can't I have someone to talk to...Hrothgar has people to talk to" (Gardner, 53). Grendel didn't have anyone he could just talk to about everything and that frustrated him. To him, it seems like everyone has someone, except him. Another example that shows that Grendel's loneliness and lack of communication causes him to be violent is in Beowulf when the epic explains: "So Grendel waged his lonely war, inflicting constant cruelties on the people, atrocious hurt. He took over Heorot, haunted the glittering hall after dark, but the throne itself, the treasure–seat, he was kept from approaching; he was the Lord's outcast" (Beowulf, 165–169). This quote is clarifying how Grendel did all of this by himself and didn't care of anyone who was in his way either. Although he is lonely, he chooses to use that as ... You get a clear understanding, before you make any choice. Think about its effects in the long term, and short term. Knowing exactly what you want is very powerful. We have all heard the golden rule; do onto others as you would have them do onto you. This is probably one of the most important ideas to keep in mind when making good choices. When we are young a lot of us develop this me, me, me, attitude. We want all the toys, and we don't want to share. It's a step towards the long term goals of the business as well as in the achievement of the common goals of the business enterprise. • 69. The Beauty Of This Story Being Narrated By Rebecca Told by Rebecca, one of the 13–year–old twins that has been born and raised in a strict fundamentalist Christian sect. The story begins with the family moving to the South Island, and then follows the young girls as they go through the exciting, yet nerve wracking, time of becoming betrothed. Exciting because the girls wish to fulfil their "godly duties"; nerve wracking because they know they have no choice in who they will be ordered to marry. The novel is harrowing at times, as the sect uses selective Bible teachings to maintain control over their followers. They also use "The Rule", a set of laws developed by leaders, to keep order – though these rules seem mainly concerned with controlling the minds and bodies of women. However, the beauty of this story being narrated by Rebecca is that the details of life in the sect are presented in a non–judgmental way. Rebecca is simply stating the way things are – it is all she knows – so it is not a better or worse way of life, it just is. The ending is particularly powerful. I could imagine the impact the running away scene would have if it occurred in real life. I highly recommend this book to everyone – in fact, because Beale authored the novel as a non–biased account of moral choices Rebecca as well as others had to make and the intolerance of difference that the Children of the Faith showed. Examples Of Heroicism In John Updike's Short Story 'A & P' To be heroic means that a person chooses to be brave and do the right thing even if doing the right thing seems less rewarding, is more difficult, or both. The protagonist in John Updike's short story "A & P" is not heroic. In the story, the protagonist sees three girls dressed in only bathing suits enter the store he was working in, and his manager told them that they were not allowed to wear swimsuits in the store. Then Sammy stands up for the girls and quits his job in hopes of impressing them. When examining Sammy motivation, actions, and the other choices he could have made it is obvious that what he did was not heroic. He decided that trying to impress a girl that is a stranger is more important than doing what is right. Considering the other course of action Sammy could have taken, it would have required him to be more courageous and do what is just. Being heroic is the equivalent of being a hero, and Sammy was not a true hero. To be able to understand why Sammy is not heroic, it is important to consider what motivated him. The story opens up with three girls who enter a store only wearing bathing suits and Sammy is clearly attracted to them.
