1. Why PDHPE?
PDHPE teaches kids to understand and value themselves
as individuals. Kids with positive self-attitudes have:
• Better interpersonal relationships;
• Resilience and adaptability when faced with challenges
and change;
• More control over their own lives.
2. Why PDHPE?
PDHPE teaches kids to understand and value themselves
as part of a group. Kids with positive attitudes to others:
• Feel socially connected, so they are less likely to behave
in risky ways;
• Learn life skills such as negotiation, conflict resolution
and tolerance through successful interaction with others.
3. Why PDHPE?
PDHPE is a safe place where kids can explore issues that
affect everybody, and learn that they are becoming
responsible for their own lifestyles. Prepared kids:
• Can make informed decisions in situations which may
affect their wellbeing;
• Can see options and predict the consequences of the
choices they make.
4. Why PDHPE?
PDHPE teaches kids to enjoy being physically active.
Active kids:
• Have stronger hearts and bones, and better physical and
psychological health;
• Are having fun, which builds self-esteem and a sense of
belonging.
5. Why PDHPE?
PDHPE teaches kids how to be physically active. Skilled
kids have:
• Fundamental movement skills which are the necessary
building blocks for future enjoyment of sport;
• Higher potential to become active adults, and enjoy
better long-term health and social skills as a result.
