Reasons For Delaying Summer Born Children
In England and a significant number of other countries, class structure in the education system
means the cohort of children placed in a year group together could differ greatly in age. Children
born in the summer months can be up to nearly a year younger than their autumn born counterparts.
At aged four, this potential year significantly compromises a fraction of the children's lives and
therefore means summer born children may be behind in terms of development hindering their
academic ability in comparison to their older counterparts. Whilst there is ongoing research into the
topic, presently there are many conflicting views on whether delaying summer born children's
entrance to primary school would be beneficial stemming from the belief that they are
disadvantaged. Whilst there is evidence to prove that they perform consistently worse academically
on tests (Daniels et al., 2000), there are also findings to suggest that it is not their month of birth that
leads to potential shortcomings in terms of academic achievement.
Research into academic capability crucially highlights the inequalities between children with a
summer birthday and their older, autumn born peers, which supports the argument that summer born
children should delay their year of entrance to primary school. Evidence shows that autumn born
children generally perform better academically in comparison to their younger spring born
counterparts (born January to April) who in turn outperform summer born children

The Summer Break Of 2013
During the summer break of 2013 I was an eager soon to be a sophomore. Even with summer break,
I faced a stressful combination of summer school, Crew soccer club practice, and homework. To
cope with them, I unknowingly turned to unhealthy eating and sleep deprivation.
As you can imagine my summer did not go the way I expected it to. I finished summer school in the
middle of July when I woke up with a sudden, harsh, and excruciating pain in my lower abdomen. I
couldn't bare to even get up from bed. I thought maybe I needed to go to the bathroom, which didn't
solve the problem. I was sweating continuously. All I could do was cry in the fetal position. It felt as
if a professional boxer was jabbing my lower abdomen from left to right. I ... Show more content on

I was scared for my life that this might be the end.
That following night I went into the operating room. After the surgery, I had to stay in the hospital
for 4 days. It was the worst experience I ever had. I had no appetite, all I had was water. Even
though my appendix was removed, I still felt the pain in my lower abdomen. I had to walk around
the hospital floor in order to relieve some air from my stomach. It was very quiet and dark since
barely any sunlight came through the windows. The cold air made me feel sick to my stomach. It
was depressing to see young children on ventilating machines or babies placed in clear boxes
because of their conditions. Each time I walked in the hallways passing each room, I was crying.
Being stuck in this environment made me want to leave immediately. There was no happy place for
me.
I was able to get a lot of support from the nurses and doctor who always checked up on me. My
uncle, who is a doctor of Chiropractic visited me daily to make adjustments on my spine. As each
day passed, the pain was slowly fading away. Although I had help, I on my own, had to continue to
walk until I finally felt better. Fortunately, after 3 days, I was able to walk around freely, gained my
appetite back and was finally discharged from the hospital.
Back at home, I had to stay inside the house and not do any physical activity which was difficult to
cope with because I felt useless. My incisions were still healing at the time so I

Summer Reading Strategies
VIII. Closing and Wrap Up
"Placing books in the hands of children to develop an interest in reading is critical. Placing targeted,
high–interest books with STEAM focus in the hands of children is brilliant." – Patrick Pope,
principal
RIF launched a program called Read for Success. This is a summer reading program where children,
parents, teachers and members of the community come together to support a child to read during the
summer. Children who don't read over the summer risk losing up to three months of important skills
that they learned during the school year. This is especially true of children from low–income
families. Summer learning loss poses a real threat to a student's academic success and ability to
function later on in life. Once a child falls behind, they rarely catch up. Check our RIF's fun–filled
book lists, activities, tips and resources to help keep children reading and learning ... Show more

One morning, a third–grade student ran up to her teacher and with a huge grin on her face she

Why Should Kids Get Summer Break
Should Your Child Get A Summer Break? Do you think kids should have summer break? Summer
break gives families more time to make memories, it releases stress off of the students and teachers,
it also gives more time for events to be made. Summer break can help out on a lot. No kids would
want to stay in a hot classroom all year round when they could be outside enjoying the summer
days.
The first reason why kids should have summer break is because summers are made for making
memories. According to Gary Huggins, kids need to enjoy time and vacation with their families.
Vacation is freedom for everyone, including the students and teachers. Furthermore, Huggins
believes that you can tie in what you've learned over the year with memories you're making in the
summer (Huggins). Vacations are more fun when you have all the time to make memories. Vacation
is best during the summer, everyone enjoys hot summer days and spending time with their friends
and family (Huggins). Summer break is a time where families make ... Show more content on

According to Kelley Holland, there is more time for sports and other events in the summer than
during the school year. Too many events are scheduled during the summer time rather than the
school year. Most kids play sports, during school, they're constantly busy with games, their
weekends involve doing what their family or coaches have planned. Some kids practice a single
sport, which means they could play all year round (Holland). Most families would rather be able to
have time to go places with their kids, not have to get it all done in a certain amount of time. During
the school year, kids usually have a bedtime or homework, if your family or sport coach has
something planned, there might not be time for other things (Holland). Birthday parties, reunions,
weddings, sport events, etc. can be made easier in the summer instead of kids and teachers having to
take off work time for those

Driving In The Summer Compare And Contrast
Comparing and contrasting driving in the winter and driving in the summer. They both can be very
dangerous weather to drive in. but there are differences between the two and there are similarities.
The similarities of driving in the winter and the summer is that they both have inclement weather
that can be hard to drive in. That can cause it to be very dangerous on the roads. The differences is
that in the summer it is clear blue skies making it easier to see when you are driving. It can also be
very difficult to see when the sun is shining the sun can be often very bright. Also sometimes in the
summer it's hard to tell whether the light is yellow green or red due to the sun shining. Also in the
summer the heat can cause your tire pressure

Essay On Summer Vacations
"Mom! I am bored."
Summer vacations barely begun and children start a chorus of complaints. They are bored. They
have nothing to do. There is no excitement in their life. The days are too long, too dull or too hot
and the grumbling goes on and on. Children wait for summer holidays with a great deal of
anticipation but once vacations start they are no longer happy.
Most mothers are at a loss as to what to do and how to fill the long summer days with enough
activities and excitement to keep children occupied and out of trouble. Keeping energetic and bored
children cooped up inside homes for 10 weeks is like inviting insanity and trouble.
It is not only the children who do not know how to manage their overflowing energy and idle hands
and minds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rashid wants her children to develop creative and artistic abilities– something she feels cannot be
done during regular school days. "It is almost criminal to waste the time children have during
summer vacations. There are so many new things they can learn and experience. School books and
good grades are fine, but for today's competitive world, children need to learn new skills to be
confident and have a well rounded personality."
Other parents are of the view that summer camps bring organization and discipline in their
children's life during the holidays. "I feel very frustrated when my children have breakfast at lunch
time and demand lunch in late afternoon. Routines disintegrate very quickly with bored kids. They
sleep away the morning and come alive at night like things out of a horror movie," one mother
laughed. "When they have a new activity to look forward to, it is amazing how punctual and
responsible they can become."
While many mothers were unanimous in their approval of summer camps, they also agreed that
means of transportation and high fees charged by institutions were major deterrents especially when
there is more than one child to be sent. Although more and more schools, organizations and even
fast food restaurants are offering summer activities for kids, many remain out of reach of even upper
class income

The Allisons In The Summer People By Shirley Jackson
The prompt I have chosen is, "In the story The Summer People, The Allisons believe that the locals
(the Country People) are harassing them because of their decision to stay at the cottage past Labor
Day. Do you believe the locals are actually doing this or do you believe the Allisons are simply
paranoid and imagining this? Please respond in a concise, well written three paragraph essay with
specific examples and textual evidence from the text to support your answer."
In Shirley Jackson's short story, "The Summer People" the Allisons decided to stay at their summer
cottage past labor day. This decision, however may not have been for the best. After making this
decision the Allisons began to become paranoid as things started to not go their way. First of all the
townspeople began to question them as to why they wanted to stay. They informed them that no one
had ever stayed past Labor Day. The Allisons also had to deal with the fact they could no longer buy
kerosene or have their groceries delivered as they had during the summer months. They also
received an interesting letter from their son that left them feeling confused and a bit concerned
because it did not sound like their son's writing. Lastly they had things in their house that were
braking such as their phone. Their car also had somehow broken and was no longer functioning. All
of these occurrences startled the Allison. They couldn't understand how they had been able to live so
peacefully in their cottage all summer

Summer Break Research Paper
Why should schools summer vacation stay the same? Some educators believe that summer break is
too long and we won't remember what we have been taught. Unlike them most students enjoy
summer break and do not want it to end. Long summers provide us with relaxation, more sleep, and
extra time to go to different places. Therefore, why should summer break be shortened?
With all these hot summer days, it lets us have time to sit down and watch a movie. Relaxation is
one of the best factors about long summer breaks. You're able to go out and get a facial without
having to schedule it on a certain day and certain time. You work on your time not anyone else's.
You're able to do your errands and then still have time to go see that new horror movie

Why Is Summer Homework Essay
Argument Essay
Have you ever wondered why we have summer homework when we should be having fun during
our summer break? Every year when we get out of school we come home with more homework to
help us try to not forget what we learned in the past year. What if I told you summer homework
could be harmful to us. It could be and here's why. There's not enough book to choose from, never
learned the work, and it stresses everyone out. So summer homework may need to be rethought.
We all know the feeling when you pick up a book and can't put it down. Sometimes that's not the
case with summer reading books. Your assigned with a book or two that you have to read and do a
report on. Sometimes you love it, sometimes you don't. If you love it great, you can easily finish it
and do a book report on it. But what if you don't like it? Well either way you still have to read it. But
if you don't like it it's a dread to go on. If you don't like it you won't pay attention as much and
might get lost and can't follow the story. Once you start your book report you have no idea what
you're talking about. Than what happens? You get a bad grade. About 78% of people don't do well

You just came back from vacation and then you remember, you have summer work. You race to get
it done before school. You stay up late to get it done. Parents try to help, but kids under pressure turn
them away. This is one of the biggest problems of summer homework. It stresses not only the kids
out, but the parents too. Parents try to help all they can, but kids yell at the and tell them to go away.
You also mostly think of getting it done, not getting a good grade. Kids alo try to get it done in the
middle of the summer, but kids have sports. When kids try to do summer work and not play sports,
it's taking time away from the kids to exercise and socialize. If there is no summer work it will let
kid and parents relax and have fun with their kids during the long summer

That Summer Book Report
Diving into Change The fictional novel entitled That Summer was written by author, Sarah Dessen.
It was published in 1996 as her first book to be sold. Dessen states, "It was actually the third one I
wrote, after a terrible book I did in college and one that was marginally better the year after. I never
intended That Summer to be a YA (young adult) book while I was writing it" (Sarah Dessen, n. d.).
She then goes on to state how her publisher believed it would be a good book for teenagers, so, she
gave it a shot, and allowed it to be published. According to UNCTV, "Sarah Dessen grew up in
Chapel Hill, North Carolina and attended UNC–Chapel Hill, graduating with the highest honors in
Creative Writing. She is the author of several novels and has a motion picture based on her first two
books, entitled How to Deal. Her 11th novel, The Moon and More, was published in June 2013. She
currently lives in North Carolina" (UNCTV, 2006). That Summer was inspired by Dessen's interest
in writing about what she describes as "the change in youth's personality as they go through some
sort of tragedy or loss" (Sarah Dessen, n. d.). Consequently, in That Summer, protagonist, Haven
McPhail, faces a summer full of rapid changes, all the while, learning about the reality of the past.

coming back together, regardless of her parents divorce. "Everyone can reach back to one summer

Summer Vacations
A success of a student relies on a the time spent in school. Anaheim high school students need to
have longer hours in school to study for and get all the help they need and to make that happen there
needs to be less summer vacation my argument is that KIPP students are smart and well educated
because they have long hours of school and study for approximately 2 hours and read and listen to
music for about the same time. "Relation of Education Insanity"(8). The scores show how students
who had longer summer schools had a had low test scores and for those students who had less
summer vacations and they had better test scores which is pretty impressive. Studying a lot and
putting a lot of time in something would make it easier for your brain to function faster because
you're constantly thinking. "The beginning is hard"(9). The beginning is hard but when you try and
you challenge yourself you start to believe in yourself and become a successful person.
Rewarding students is great to show them they are important and they need to treat themselves from
putting in great work, but does it really help encourage and motivates the students?
I believe yes it does motivate the students because they look at it as a goal. And it may push them to
try harder and be successful. The longer hours at school is to become hard working and understand
what you are doing and the studying for long hours is to help you become successful "What that

Why Summer Shouldn T Be Extended Essay
Why the Summer Shouldn't be Shortened The summer for kids should not be shortened because
kids need a break, to experience real life events and not just school all day everyday. If kids are
cooped up in school all day without breaks and vacations then how will kids be prepared for college
or the real world when they have to make their own decisions. If they don't experience these things
then students will be ill prepared. Kids need a break because they learn so much new information
and so many new things that you can overload the brain (Should). Then kids won't be as focused
because they have too much information to remember and will not do well on tests. Kids also start
to get bored at the end of the year they are not as focused and not ... Show more content on

As well as stress building up due to all the pressure to get good grades, students need a rest from all
the pressure and the stress. Students should get the 10 week rest compared to the 40 week school
year. Teacher Valerie Patterson says "children need a break from school in the summer to develop
healthy habits and enjoy freedom" (Wornoff). This being said from a teacher, it must be an indicator
that the summer should not be shortened or taken away. As students get older they possess harder
and more homework and class work, as well as stressing about good grades and college. Summer is
a time for a break and to settle down and not be so uptight. By having summer kids get to relax,
have fun and not be so stressed.
Summer should stay the same because it gives kids a time to settle down and relax. They do not
have to be so worried about good grades, homework, and turning things in on time. By shortening
summer that will make kids more stressed and not as focused in class because by the end of the year
students start to get bored and not as focused but with summer they can come back rejuvenated and
ready to learn

Why Is It Important To Keep Summer Break
Do you remember how excited you used to get for summer break? Now imagine not having a break
at all, having to continuously learn new subjects all year–long. Exhausting isn't it? There are some
schools where there would be a 3–4 week break in the summer, but the winter break is longer than
ours. Personally, I believe that we should keep our summer break the way it is because: both
students and teachers deserve a break from school, constantly having new information drilled into
your head all year–long is bound to put stress on anyone, and there are countless students who
depend on summer break to work and/or travel.
First off, students and teachers would not be able to stand each other by the end of the year. If the
county had all year round school, we would all start resenting each other because of all the time we
would be forced to spend together. Also, I know a couple of teachers who gave up one job for being
a teacher because of summer break. They have time to travel and do whatever they want in the
summer instead of being stuck in a building with teenagers all day. Plus, teachers also deserve a
break from grading papers and talking until their voice is gone to kids who are probably not even
listening. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Imagine how much those levels would increase if we had school with no breaks. School is honestly
stressful enough as it is; with the amount of work that we get on a daily basis, it's no wonder we are
more anxious than before. If we tried to continuously have new information stored in our brains,
kids would start thinking they aren't smart enough to pass high–school so they just stop trying. Kids
also depend on summer break to work, some have families to

Why take summer off when you can have more breaks throughout the year? Students love to have
away time from school and enjoy their summer break thoroughly. Having free time is what students
look forward to and spreading out more time instead of having the whole summer off is what the
school board is trying to do. Being capable of more breaks in Fall, Spring and, Winter but not only
still having an amount of time off in summer will give students more breaks more frequently,
However taking away the prolonged Summer break. Shortening it to merely 3–4 weeks. Shortening

Life is about exploring and finding yourself and expanding your horizon in both knowledge and
oneself. That said, Numerous breaks give students more time to explore and be free to themselves.
More free time is an added bonus, Nevertheless students will have less time to forget what school
has taught them.
Having a Summer break it is known students will forget a lot of what they were taught the previous
school year, However cutting down the time students have to forget these things will help students
excel. During time off student never think about school and often fail to remember things that could
be crucial to their learning experience. Less time to let the things that were taught to escape the
minds of students can help some students that have trouble with certain classes by having less time
to forget.
All in all a reduction to the time taken off in the summer can help students. Doing so will add more

My Summer Road Trip The late June Texas sun was hot as it came through the window of my

comfort, wearing my blue shorts and my favorite worn out tee, I knew it was going to be a long hot
drive. As I drove down the road, I soon realized that I had never been anywhere alone before. This
was a new feeling to me, one of strength and fear rolled into one.
While fighting the traffic to get out of town, I was thinking back on the conversation Mother and I

dotted only by a few oak trees that gave perfect shade along the way. I felt as if I could literally melt
into the scenery. I had not noticed that the neighbor's dog, Maggie, had come to the car until I heard
her soft whine to get my attention. She was sitting next to the car wagging her tail as I opened the
car door, excited to have my company.
I unpacked the car and carried the few bags I had brought with me into the house. It was dark and
cool inside despite the summer's heat. I opened the blinds and was again mesmerized by the
beautiful view. I knew in that moment my coming here alone was just what I needed to heal from

Summer school is not always a student's first choice, but it is a smart one for many. Many students
struggle balancing heavy courses, just as the maths and sciences, along with an English credit. Many
students enjoy English, but are unable to find a balance. Having three other courses on top of
English, no matter the course, creates higher levels of stress due to different teachers assigning
projects or tests on different days or perhaps even the same day. By taking a course in summer
school, it allows the student to only focus on one subject. All of their effort can be put into that class
without the added stress from other courses. This allows the students to give the teacher their
undivided attention and focus. The second reason why summer school is an ideal option for many
students is that is allows a student the opportunity to have a spare in the upcoming school year.
Students, like myself, who are heavily focused on math and science are given a heavy load of
equations to memorize and homework to accomplish. By making use of a spare, students are able to
use this time to enhance their studies. Students would have more time to catch up on homework,

Is Summer Vacay For Students?
Is summer beneficial for students?
After every school year there is the summer holiday. Summer is probably the most exciting holiday
of all for students because it comes after they finish school and is a huge holiday. Students can do
anything and have nothing to worry about. People always seem to question if summer break is
beneficial for students or not. Summer vacation is beneficial for students because it gives them a
break from school, time for family, time to take courses and look for jobs. (Raisingsmallsouls)
It is beneficial for students to have a good summer vacation because students need a break and time
off of school and work. Health can always be dangerous and an issue, if students keep studying
without a break it could hurt them physically or mentally. (Wilson). Students being hurt and

Analysis Of All Summer In A Day By Ray Bradbury
"Knowing what's right doesn't mean much unless you do what's right."
― Theodore Roosevelt.
Everyday, many people subside to many plagues, such as greed, sadness, loneliness, and many
more. Ray Bradbury, an author, famous for futuristic short/long stories, shows many problems in
current society, in literature form. Many stories he publishes are usually hinting to a certain theme
and/or problem. He was born on August 22, 1920 in Waukegan IL, and died June 5, 2012, at the age
of 91 in Los Angeles. He taught at the Los Angeles High School, and was very particular about his
craft. Ray loved to put in lots of surrounding detail at every scene. One theme in particular is that
greed and loneliness can create negative decisions and long term effects.
Loneliness is a main factor to being an outcast. The thing we all know called Loneliness can cause
an affect our lives, especially socially, which is relative to the theme. In All Summer in a Day, it
states,"Margot stood apart from them, from these children who could ever remember a time when
there wasn't rain and rain and rain... Sometimes, at night, she heard them stir, in remembrance, and
she knew they were dreaming and remembering gold or a yellow crayon or a coin large enough to

Temperature Analysis Of Temperature During The Summer
Temperature Analysis
The expectations I held when first given this assignment are echoed in the conceptual models
presented in the guidance document: locations situated close to the ocean ought to exhibit cooler
temperatures during the summer months while maintaining slightly warmer temperatures during the
winter and that more inland locations should display slightly higher temperatures within the summer
time but lower temperatures during the winter months. This expectation was largely influenced by

As these locations have similar enough latitudes, 27.9 and 28 degrees north respectively, it is
unlikely that the results are skewed. Continuing to follow the notion proposed within the given
conceptual model, the southern stations showed that the inland city of Devil's Garden experienced
substantially colder winters compared to the winter time temperatures seen in Miami Beach.
Encountering an average winter temperature of 51.4 degrees, Devil's Garden is approximately 12
degrees cooler than Miami Beach's average minimum winter temperature of 63.6. These locations,
however, did not exhibit such a large disparity in summer time temperatures with Devil's Garden's
maximum average displayed at approximately 92 degrees and Miami Beach's maximum average
displaying exactly 87 degrees. Upon further investigation, it appears that the discrepancy in average
temperatures between the locations is perhaps caused by a sizable difference in latitudes with
Devil's Garden situated at 38.8 degrees north compared to Miami Beach situated at 25.8 degrees
north. This divergence is the most likely responsible for Miami Beach's high summer temperatures
as areas in lower latitudes often experience warmer weather in addition to the fact that the beach is
located closer to the equator. To compare coastal stations, it is clear that the second conceptual
model is reasonably correct when asserting

Summer Learning Loss: Future Research
Working Definition
When looking into the field of summer learning loss (SLL) there isn't much debate on if it exists,
but there is slight variation in how to described it. In "Using Curriculum–Based Measurement to
Examine Summer Learning Loss" SLL is explained as "an achievement gap among students based
on family income, ethnicity, and home language that is present at the commencement of schooling
and persists throughout all levels of education." (Patton & Reschily, 2013). The notion that SLL is
related to a student's socioeconomic status (SES) is a concept that was accepted across the entire
field. The definition provided by Patton and Reschily is similar to how SLL is expressed in
"Summer Learning and its Implications." In this journal, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In "Summer Learning and its Implications" suggested that providing a summer outlet for low SES
students with similar school materials and structure would aid in reducing SLL. Other suggestions
include extending the school year, providing more cost friendly activities, and making the prospect
of summer school more appealing to low–income students (Alexander, et al., 2007). Patton and
Reschly propose that in the future research there should be an emphasis placed on the "recoupment,
longitudinal studies of loss, and prevention". They identify that when looking at these different areas
it's crucial that the multiple facets that impact them are also looked at, such as grade levels,
subgrouping, when most academic growth occurs, and the type of instruction that will work best.
Since the Kolose study didn't directly measure the achievement loss of students, their future
research is different than those suggested in the previous studies. Kolose identifies three major areas
that need to be improved in order to decrease the SLE. First, there needs to be greater access to
resources for low SES students. Second, efforts need to be made by both teachers and parents to
increase the motivation and engagement that high SLE have for reading. Finally, high SLE students
need to be provided with additional support and guidance when choosing appropriate books and
building their independent reading skills. While each study proposes different means to decrease
SLL, they all are identifying ways to make this goal

My Summer : My Life For A Summer
Summer for a teenager means beach time , more time with friends and mostly importantly no
waking up at seven in the morning for school . Summer of two–thousand eleven to me only meant
waking up exactly at seven in the morning to toss and turn because my stomach was making a
ridiculous growling noise I personally was not hungry instead it was a tiny human in my stomach
she was hungry for fruit . Yes fruit it didn't matter what kind of fruit as long as it was fresh and
sweet she would be satisfied .. That was the beginning of my summer waiting on the birth of my
daughter at the age of sixteen.
. Most of the summer I spent trying to find someone in my life to blame for my personal decision of
having an unprotected encounter . Should I blame my parents for not being strict enough or myself
for taking advantage of their leanines . I could have spent the whole two months contemplating to
myself but , the reality was in two months I was going to be a mom . I tried to google the definition
of mom "because come on who doesn't google everything?". There was no definition to the word
mom i guess I would be making it up as I prepared myself in those exact two months of summer .
"Mom ,my clothes won't fit !" is what I shouted to my Mother what seems like every day . How
would they fit , my stomach had turned into the size of watermelon . Of course she was still livid
over the fact she had a pregnant teenage daughter but, she was still a mom and had to care for me .

Summer Break Research Paper
What would life be like without summer vacation? Some educators argue that there should be year–
round school years with miniscule breaks spread throughout the year instead of one large summer
break. These people claim that the students will be able to retain information better this way because
summer break is such a long time without schooling. Summer break should not change because it
would lead to less vacation time, overworked students, and additional stress for teachers.
Vacation is an astounding way to boost people's morale, mood, and happiness; and what is the most
infamous vacation of them all? Summer break! Summer break is what all students look forward
every year. Summer break signifies the beginning and end of every school year

Personal Narrative Essay : The Summer Night In The Last...
I remember it like it was yesterday, maybe because it was yesterday. No, I'm just kidding. It was
more like this summer. Not this coming summer but the last summer. And not the summer of the
year 2016, but the one from this year, 2017. What happened that summer night? A lot. It was any
other typical summer day for me in the ole' Fritz household. I was getting bored doing things with
Hallie, the dog, or by myself. I thought of a brilliant idea, "I'll invite Kennedy over, it's been forever
since I've seen her." (It really hadn't been very long since the last time I saw her, we just like to hang
out.) So I called her up and asked, "Hey, are you busy today? Because if not, you should come over
to my house and spend the night or something." She said, "No, I'm not busy. I have to ask if I can
come but I'm sure she'll say yes. I probably have to clean my room first though, so it might be a
while." I told her that was fine and to swing by whenever she was done cleaning, and that was the
end of it. I only had to wait an hour, maybe two, before she arrived at my house. We were so excited
to see each other because, actually, I have no idea why. I mean yes we're good friends, but we saw
each other a lot, and we talk, and text all the time. I don't know, we're weird like that I guess. We
always get excited I guess. We were almost like when you come home from a vacation and your dog
goes crazy because they're happy to see you. Yeah, like that, but a little toned down and less

Summer Research Report
The first weeks of the summer fellowship in the VDS stream was a bit hectic. They consisted of
learning protocols and techniques. Three plates of PNiC–BSa4 colonies were grown by my partner
and me that week. These were later used by the majority of lab students who had reached the
cloning stage. My first PCR with plasmid pgbr22 failed, but the second was successful. PCR with
pmCherry had to be completed 3 times to get a successful result and PNIC–BSa4 PCR had to be
completed twice to get a successful result. The three practice PCRs were completed the 5th week of
lab. Protein expression using PfDXR was started in week 3 and the sample of protein was purified
the following week. I received my target protein Rickettsia prowazskii FabG ... Show more content

The PCR2 sample from the previous week was purified through PCR clean up and nano–dropped.
The concentration was 68ng/ul. The concentration of this sample was low (<100ng/ul) because I
had skipped the first step in the cleanup process that prepares the column filter for maximum DNA
binding. PCR2 and PCR clean up were completed again and the concentration of the sample was
averaged to be 147.9ng/ul. Since the concentrations of the samples were adequate, I moved onto
PNiC–BSa4 cloning and prepared a sample to be DNA sequenced. RE digest was completed on two
PNIcBSa4 prep samples, with the gel indicating that both samples were successfully cut and nano–
drop results indicating high purity levels with low concentrations (~32ng/uL). Results from
sequencing were nucleotide blasted and confirmed to be PNiCBSa4. I talked to a mentor about my
samples and was told that I probably needed a higher concentration ≥100ng/uL, for cloning to be
successful. In order to increase the concentration 4 samples of 50uL each were cut and PCR clean
up into one sample that had a concentration of 123.5ng/ul. The cloning protocol was completed that
week and when the plated were checked, no colonies were present on either of the two plates. My
first attempt at cloning failed. The process was completed again, and the sample concentration was
averaged to be 112.1ng/ul. The second time, only one

Persuasive Essay On Summer Day Camp
It very well may be that you're not looking forward to summer as much as your kids are; since
they're out of school, you have to think of the best and most constructive ways to occupy their time,
all while still going to work yourself. Luckily, the hot months are an opportunity for children to not
only engage in fun physical activities, but also to get creative and learn a thing or two. This is why
Wentzville, MO–based child day care center, DLC Academy, organizes its summer camp for
school–age children; signing your kids up will make their months of June, July and August
enriching and truly unforgettable.
What's the focus of this summer day camp? What kinds of things do the kids get to do? Let's take a

Persuasive Essay On Summer Camp
Do you remember those hot summer days when you had nothing to do and your friends were
nowhere to be found? Throughout time, countless American children go away to summer camps and
have treasured this opportunity for a life time. I believe you should take the opportunity to go to
summer camp, because you will spend the day making new friends, building self–confidence, and
becoming more independent. Many of us have had the chance to go to camp, creating lifelong
memories that will be retold for generations. In my opinion, the first reason for going to summer
camp would be for making new friends. As soon as you arrive to camp, everyone makes an
agreement to respect each other and to get to know one another. The group starts off by planning to

The Benefits Of Summer Break
Students often wonder how fun it would be if they had a three–week break every nine weeks, as
opposed to one long summer break. Changing summer break into much shorter, but more frequent
breaks would be beneficial for many reasons. Just think, most students lose up to one month of
knowledge over the summer. Although most students could go to a learning camp over the summer,
lower income students cannot afford this as summer break is financially taxing on them. Finally,
while lower income and higher income students may have their differences, all students stay up late
over summer break. Staying up late causes these students to get out of their school routine. It is a
wonder why the US education system hasn't already turned summer break into ... Show more

After all the students spend hours each day and night trying to complete school and homework.
Ruby Mullin( 2015) says this about the idea of shortening summer break "This idea is mean; there's
no other word for it. Children need to calm down and have a good holiday at the end of a busy
school year". Some Professors, like Chet Stetson(2013) say "Not only is the school year hard on the
kids, it is straining on the adults as well. We have to work overtime to grade papers and prepare
lessons". Now the professors have to work even harder with more kids filling up every class. So
students and professors alike do have valid reasons to believe that summer break should stay as it is.
However, other possible break orientations have potential. By splitting summer break into more, but
with smaller breaks, students and teachers alike would have a short break every few weeks. This
would give students time to calm down and give teachers time to prepare lessons and grade

Summer Break Argumentative Essay
This question has been asked many times with school board officials let's look at the facts, Summer
break started because the children of poor farmers would miss school in order to help their families
harvest they would miss many days of school and wouldn't be able to learn as much as the children
whose families were wealthy. They eventually decided to shorten the calendar so that no one could
miss school. Here in the 21'st century no one needs to miss school, nowadays a small amount of
people have families that own farms but the children don't have to miss school to work on them!
Summer break is now a fun break, but do kids really need it? I believe they don't there are enough
missed school days from three day weekends to spring break there really is no point to have the
school calendar shortened anymore. So should we keep Summer? According to ... Show more

this decision affect teachers, parents, and the students themselves.Making the school year longer

Essay on Should Summer Break Be Changed or Banished?
"Should Summer Break be Changed or Banished?"
Do you ever get stressed over work from school or your job? Well, that is why breaks and vacations
are so important. Stress is pressure or tension applied to a material object. When people have stress
or are stressed, they do not need to worry about it, stress is a normal physical response to events that
make you feel threatened or upset your balance in some way. Stress is your body's way of protecting
you. When working properly, it helps you stay focussed on what you're doing, keeps your energy
flowing, and helps you be more aware of what is going on. Being stressed isn't always a long lasting
situation, it can easily be demolished by taking frequent breaks in between activities, events, ...

Many think that summer is a time to take a break from the school world and have some time to relax
and enjoy your life while you have it and that summer school should not be taken by their children,
nieces, nephews, grandchildren, etc. But, All young people experience learning losses when they do
not engage in educational activities during the summer. Research shows that students usually
receive a lower score on standardized tests at the end of summer vacation than they do on the same
tests at the beginning of summer vacation. According to the National Summer Learning
Association,"Most students lose about two months of grade level equivalency in mathematical
computation skills over the summer months"(National Summer Learning Association, "Know the
Facts). According to the National Summer Learning Association "Not only do children lose
knowledge from summer, children–particularly children at high risk of obesity–gain weight more
rapidly when they are out of school during summer break" (National Summer Learning Association,
"Know the Facts"). Although, taking breaks is very relaxing, it has many pros that affect your health
in a very positive way.

The Summer Of The Mariposas
In the book The Summer of the Mariposas, there is a connection with an Ancient Greek story called
the Odyssey. Some characters are also similar in both stories. The witch Cecilia and the Greek witch
Circe can have connections with appearance, with actions, and with the rest of the influence on the
story. Circe had great influence and many similarities on the Summer of the Mariposas witch,
Cecilia. This is something of great importance, and will show how this similarity can be seen with
other characters and other books.
In appearance, both witches have similar characteristics, first example being in seduction. In the
book the girls were charmed by her love and affection, much like the men of Odysseus were in the
odyssey. An example of Cecilia doing this would be when she is comforting Pita by saying "Come
here, darling. Everything 's going to be okay. I promise"(McCall 136). Cecilia manipulated the girls
into this as well as in appearance. She is described in always good ways like being "lovely and
petite" as well as being addressed as "the enchanting woman began doting on us, like a tiny yellow
butterfly, fluttering about"(McCall 130). In the odyssey Circe is showed as well in a loving calm
way. The quote "You ought not to be, for I have already sworn solemnly that I will not hurt you" it
shows she tries to manipulate them in the same passive way as Cecilia did(Homer, and Samuel
Butler, Book 10, 7). Both try with affection and deceiving to woo the heroes into their trap,

Summer Holidays
Summary The article, "Should children study in the summer holidays?" (Jackson, 2017) discusses
the pros and cons of continuing a child's education throughout their summer vacation. In favor of
this idea was Vivien Stiles, a professional tutor for Kumon, who argued that studying over the
summer would help children ease back into a full school year. Stiles continued to explain the
program as a two day school week which teaches Mathematics and English. The average time it
takes for each student to complete their homework for their class is between 15 and 90 minutes.
Others, like Tanith Carey, fear that extending classroom education into the summer may overwhelm
some young minds. She explained how her daughter felt so overwhelmed by her education
experience she tried to deny an award she won because there was too much that surrounded the
acceptance of that award. Once Carey realized how much stress the extra schooling during the
summer was causing her daughter, she removed her from the tutoring program so she could play and
experience a stress free childhood. Over years the results have been quite positive for Carey and her
two daughters as they have both found passions in the arts and are leading healthy happy lives. She
stresses the importance of learning not only in classrooms, but through nature, exploring, and
experiencing the natural environment around them. According to Carey some parents are
overlooking how much their children really learn when they are able to explore

That Summer And The Crown Analysis
Someone once said, "Your capability is admirable beyond words, so do not be afraid to show it". In
the books That Summer and The Crown this theme is demonstrated by the protagonist numerous
times. Without question, Haven from That Summer may be lonely, but Eadlyn from The Crown is
capable which is far more admirable.
Without a doubt, a tremendously capable character in the book The Crown by Kiera Cass would be
Eadlyn Schreave. To be capable is to be able to do the task at hand. One example that Eadlyn is
capable is how she runs an entire kingdom so her dad can stay with her mother because her mom
was sick. Running a huge kingdom at 18 years of age is a huge responsibility and Eadlyn was able
to do it by enlisting her closest staff to come on a team to assist her. Another example that Eadlyn is
capable is how she stopped a massive war from happening, due to her brother marrying the Queen
of France and giving up his royal status. Eadlyn had to go against an entire congress of old men that
wanted to start sending an army to France. It proved Eadlyn was capable of doing anything a man
could do, and that she did not need to find a husband to rule over Illéa. In closing, Eadlyn Schreave
from the book The Crown by Kiera Cass, is an extremely capable young lady.
Without question, Haven from the book That Summer By Sarah Dessen is a lonely character. Lonely
means that a person is closed off and isolated from other people. One example that Haven is lonely

Summer Break In High School
Every May, schools across America exile their kids to the chaotic abyss known as summer. The
general public view summer as a time of relaxation, but an increasing number of kids are using this
time to commit crimes, get in trouble, and act disrespectfully. This may seem unacceptable, but the
worst consequence of summer is not what kids are doing; on the other hand, the worst consequence
of summer is what kids are not doing–learning. In the 1700s, school systems in America
incorporated summer as a time for children to help their parents on the farm. Over time, as farming
began to dwindle, summer evolved as a break from learning; consequently, children began to
remember less. To accommodate for the summer learning loss epidemic and prevent children from
indulging in detrimental activities, schools must shorten summer break. Children causing trouble is
a common sight for most young parents; however, some children indulge in these acts a little too
frequently. With parents off at work and children home, children have more time to develop bad
habits and commit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
School corporations claim to use summer as a time to train, or retrain, teachers; however, teachers
do not always benefit from this extra teaching. It is important for teachers to be trained, but training
during the summer is not as effective as one might think. As students across America can attest, the
first few weeks of the school year are used as review for last year. Class time is wasted reviewing
material and teachers forget their training. According to CSBA, students retain 80 percent of the
information taught during the previous year; consequently, teachers spend the first few weeks
review the 20 percent of the information lost (Martineau). By the time last years information is
retaught, it is hard for teachers to utilize their training. In order for teacher training to be more

Summer Vacation
It's not often that our family gets to fly back to the states to visit family so when my brother and I
flew back during the summer of 2015, we were more than excited to be going back to South
Carolina to see close relatives that we'd been missing. Since our relatives live on the coast it is often
customary to visit the beach during our vacation to kick back and enjoy ourselves. After moving to
Germany our experience with the sun and beach had been little to none. Needless to say, we were all
excited to be going to the beach again since it had been some years and we'd forgotten what it was
like to be at one. That summer vacation my brother and I were quickly reminded of all the fun to be
had, the people we could meet, and the lessons we could learn while we were at the beach. When
first arriving at the beach we were greeted by the sights of wet sand, crashing waves, strong blowing
winds, and a hot radiating sun. After the initial setup of towels, umbrellas, and applying of
sunscreen my cousins, brother and I bolted for the waves that rose up the shore. Swimming in a pool
is nothing like swimming in the ocean, everything felt more extreme as we floated over waves and
were dragged around by the current. It wasn't long until my brother and I were reminded of a
childhood joy of ours, which was facing off against the waves. We would swim to a place where we
could stand firmly and try to remain standing as waves would crash down often taking us with them.
When we'd finish our fun

Summer in the The 1000 Islands
The 1000 Islands was a magnet for college age kids when we arrived in the 1960s. A multitude of
colleges are located within one–hundred–and–twenty–five miles radius from Alexandria Bay. The
local resorts and other businesses needed summer employees to accommodate the tourists and
summer residents that flooded the area during the peak season.
The region developed a reputation as a place for young people to go boating, meet the opposite sex,
and generally have a blast for a couple of months. My pals and I who were members of the
seasonal–resident community shunned the idea of staying near our schools or winter homes in order
to get summer employment there. Going to summer school, like my sister Betsy often did, held no
interest for me, and the concept of finding an internship for a future career choice had yet to become
fashionable. Being at the river for the summer was really all that I cared about.
My parents were inclined to be skeptical of a setting where fun and frivolity is a central theme. The
idea that they could be responsible for funding such a program was especially unappealing to them.
I discovered that my parents were not alone in their concerns. I've been both witness and the focus
of more than one session of parental interrogations with a mom and dad asking questions like,
"Where are you going to stay? How are you going to support yourself? Are you mature enough to
exercise good judgment in your actions and interactions?" I noticed that the conversations

Wonderful Summer: The Most Wonderful Vacation Of Summer
" Wonderful Summer"
The most wonderful vacation of my life was on summer 2016. When I was young, my parents never

what would be the place that they really would love to go for the holidays, they inmediatly answer

Summer Break Should Be Taught In School
When summer break finally approaches students want nothing more than to forget about school and
all the responsibilities that come with it. In those three months of no school students stop practicing
what is taught in school and begin to forget the information already learned. Students should be
assigned a summer reading book because it can help students to continue learning and prepare for
the upcoming school year. After the school year is over, students stop learning for the three months
they are on break. The time of constantly learning comes to a sudden halt at the end of the year and
the beginning of the summer. Reading a book over the summer break allows students to still practice
discovering new things and retaining information. They

Reasons For Delaying Summer Born Children

  • 1. Reasons For Delaying Summer Born Children In England and a significant number of other countries, class structure in the education system means the cohort of children placed in a year group together could differ greatly in age. Children born in the summer months can be up to nearly a year younger than their autumn born counterparts. At aged four, this potential year significantly compromises a fraction of the children's lives and therefore means summer born children may be behind in terms of development hindering their academic ability in comparison to their older counterparts. Whilst there is ongoing research into the topic, presently there are many conflicting views on whether delaying summer born children's entrance to primary school would be beneficial stemming from the belief that they are disadvantaged. Whilst there is evidence to prove that they perform consistently worse academically on tests (Daniels et al., 2000), there are also findings to suggest that it is not their month of birth that leads to potential shortcomings in terms of academic achievement. Research into academic capability crucially highlights the inequalities between children with a summer birthday and their older, autumn born peers, which supports the argument that summer born children should delay their year of entrance to primary school. Evidence shows that autumn born children generally perform better academically in comparison to their younger spring born counterparts (born January to April) who in turn outperform summer born children ... • 3. The Summer Break Of 2013 During the summer break of 2013 I was an eager soon to be a sophomore. Even with summer break, I faced a stressful combination of summer school, Crew soccer club practice, and homework. To cope with them, I unknowingly turned to unhealthy eating and sleep deprivation. As you can imagine my summer did not go the way I expected it to. I finished summer school in the middle of July when I woke up with a sudden, harsh, and excruciating pain in my lower abdomen. I couldn't bare to even get up from bed. I thought maybe I needed to go to the bathroom, which didn't solve the problem. I was sweating continuously. All I could do was cry in the fetal position. It felt as if a professional boxer was jabbing my lower abdomen from left to right. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was scared for my life that this might be the end. That following night I went into the operating room. After the surgery, I had to stay in the hospital for 4 days. It was the worst experience I ever had. I had no appetite, all I had was water. Even though my appendix was removed, I still felt the pain in my lower abdomen. I had to walk around the hospital floor in order to relieve some air from my stomach. It was very quiet and dark since barely any sunlight came through the windows. The cold air made me feel sick to my stomach. It was depressing to see young children on ventilating machines or babies placed in clear boxes because of their conditions. Each time I walked in the hallways passing each room, I was crying. Being stuck in this environment made me want to leave immediately. There was no happy place for me. I was able to get a lot of support from the nurses and doctor who always checked up on me. My uncle, who is a doctor of Chiropractic visited me daily to make adjustments on my spine. As each day passed, the pain was slowly fading away. Although I had help, I on my own, had to continue to walk until I finally felt better. Fortunately, after 3 days, I was able to walk around freely, gained my appetite back and was finally discharged from the hospital. Back at home, I had to stay inside the house and not do any physical activity which was difficult to cope with because I felt useless. My incisions were still healing at the time so I ... • 4. Summer Reading Strategies VIII. Closing and Wrap Up "Placing books in the hands of children to develop an interest in reading is critical. Placing targeted, high–interest books with STEAM focus in the hands of children is brilliant." – Patrick Pope, principal RIF launched a program called Read for Success. This is a summer reading program where children, parents, teachers and members of the community come together to support a child to read during the summer. Children who don't read over the summer risk losing up to three months of important skills that they learned during the school year. This is especially true of children from low–income families. Summer learning loss poses a real threat to a student's academic success and ability to function later on in life. Once a child falls behind, they rarely catch up. Check our RIF's fun–filled book lists, activities, tips and resources to help keep children reading and learning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Be a hero and give a child his or her first book. One morning, a third–grade student ran up to her teacher and with a huge grin on her face she exclaimed, "It's RIF day!" The teacher replied, "I know!" And the little girl said, "I have four books in my house. They are all RIF books. Today, I will have five books." We can make a difference. We have the option to dedicate our time and resources to support the two great causes we have talked about today. Make a pledge to make change. • 5. Why Should Kids Get Summer Break Should Your Child Get A Summer Break? Do you think kids should have summer break? Summer break gives families more time to make memories, it releases stress off of the students and teachers, it also gives more time for events to be made. Summer break can help out on a lot. No kids would want to stay in a hot classroom all year round when they could be outside enjoying the summer days. The first reason why kids should have summer break is because summers are made for making memories. According to Gary Huggins, kids need to enjoy time and vacation with their families. Vacation is freedom for everyone, including the students and teachers. Furthermore, Huggins believes that you can tie in what you've learned over the year with memories you're making in the summer (Huggins). Vacations are more fun when you have all the time to make memories. Vacation is best during the summer, everyone enjoys hot summer days and spending time with their friends and family (Huggins). Summer break is a time where families make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Kelley Holland, there is more time for sports and other events in the summer than during the school year. Too many events are scheduled during the summer time rather than the school year. Most kids play sports, during school, they're constantly busy with games, their weekends involve doing what their family or coaches have planned. Some kids practice a single sport, which means they could play all year round (Holland). Most families would rather be able to have time to go places with their kids, not have to get it all done in a certain amount of time. During the school year, kids usually have a bedtime or homework, if your family or sport coach has something planned, there might not be time for other things (Holland). Birthday parties, reunions, weddings, sport events, etc. can be made easier in the summer instead of kids and teachers having to take off work time for those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Driving In The Summer Compare And Contrast Comparing and contrasting driving in the winter and driving in the summer. They both can be very dangerous weather to drive in. but there are differences between the two and there are similarities. The similarities of driving in the winter and the summer is that they both have inclement weather that can be hard to drive in. That can cause it to be very dangerous on the roads. The differences is that in the summer it is clear blue skies making it easier to see when you are driving. It can also be very difficult to see when the sun is shining the sun can be often very bright. Also sometimes in the summer it's hard to tell whether the light is yellow green or red due to the sun shining. Also in the summer the heat can cause your tire pressure ... • 7. Essay On Summer Vacations "Mom! I am bored." Summer vacations barely begun and children start a chorus of complaints. They are bored. They have nothing to do. There is no excitement in their life. The days are too long, too dull or too hot and the grumbling goes on and on. Children wait for summer holidays with a great deal of anticipation but once vacations start they are no longer happy. Most mothers are at a loss as to what to do and how to fill the long summer days with enough activities and excitement to keep children occupied and out of trouble. Keeping energetic and bored children cooped up inside homes for 10 weeks is like inviting insanity and trouble. It is not only the children who do not know how to manage their overflowing energy and idle hands and minds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rashid wants her children to develop creative and artistic abilities– something she feels cannot be done during regular school days. "It is almost criminal to waste the time children have during summer vacations. There are so many new things they can learn and experience. School books and good grades are fine, but for today's competitive world, children need to learn new skills to be confident and have a well rounded personality." Other parents are of the view that summer camps bring organization and discipline in their children's life during the holidays. "I feel very frustrated when my children have breakfast at lunch time and demand lunch in late afternoon. Routines disintegrate very quickly with bored kids. They sleep away the morning and come alive at night like things out of a horror movie," one mother laughed. "When they have a new activity to look forward to, it is amazing how punctual and responsible they can become." While many mothers were unanimous in their approval of summer camps, they also agreed that means of transportation and high fees charged by institutions were major deterrents especially when there is more than one child to be sent. Although more and more schools, organizations and even fast food restaurants are offering summer activities for kids, many remain out of reach of even upper class income ... • 8. The Allisons In The Summer People By Shirley Jackson The prompt I have chosen is, "In the story The Summer People, The Allisons believe that the locals (the Country People) are harassing them because of their decision to stay at the cottage past Labor Day. Do you believe the locals are actually doing this or do you believe the Allisons are simply paranoid and imagining this? Please respond in a concise, well written three paragraph essay with specific examples and textual evidence from the text to support your answer." In Shirley Jackson's short story, "The Summer People" the Allisons decided to stay at their summer cottage past labor day. This decision, however may not have been for the best. After making this decision the Allisons began to become paranoid as things started to not go their way. First of all the townspeople began to question them as to why they wanted to stay. They informed them that no one had ever stayed past Labor Day. The Allisons also had to deal with the fact they could no longer buy kerosene or have their groceries delivered as they had during the summer months. They also received an interesting letter from their son that left them feeling confused and a bit concerned because it did not sound like their son's writing. Lastly they had things in their house that were braking such as their phone. Their car also had somehow broken and was no longer functioning. All of these occurrences startled the Allison. They couldn't understand how they had been able to live so peacefully in their cottage all summer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Summer Break Research Paper Why should schools summer vacation stay the same? Some educators believe that summer break is too long and we won't remember what we have been taught. Unlike them most students enjoy summer break and do not want it to end. Long summers provide us with relaxation, more sleep, and extra time to go to different places. Therefore, why should summer break be shortened? With all these hot summer days, it lets us have time to sit down and watch a movie. Relaxation is one of the best factors about long summer breaks. You're able to go out and get a facial without having to schedule it on a certain day and certain time. You work on your time not anyone else's. You're able to do your errands and then still have time to go see that new horror movie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Why Is Summer Homework Essay Argument Essay Have you ever wondered why we have summer homework when we should be having fun during our summer break? Every year when we get out of school we come home with more homework to help us try to not forget what we learned in the past year. What if I told you summer homework could be harmful to us. It could be and here's why. There's not enough book to choose from, never learned the work, and it stresses everyone out. So summer homework may need to be rethought. We all know the feeling when you pick up a book and can't put it down. Sometimes that's not the case with summer reading books. Your assigned with a book or two that you have to read and do a report on. Sometimes you love it, sometimes you don't. If you love it great, you can easily finish it and do a book report on it. But what if you don't like it? Well either way you still have to read it. But if you don't like it it's a dread to go on. If you don't like it you won't pay attention as much and might get lost and can't follow the story. Once you start your book report you have no idea what you're talking about. Than what happens? You get a bad grade. About 78% of people don't do well on a book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You just came back from vacation and then you remember, you have summer work. You race to get it done before school. You stay up late to get it done. Parents try to help, but kids under pressure turn them away. This is one of the biggest problems of summer homework. It stresses not only the kids out, but the parents too. Parents try to help all they can, but kids yell at the and tell them to go away. You also mostly think of getting it done, not getting a good grade. Kids alo try to get it done in the middle of the summer, but kids have sports. • 11. That Summer Book Report Diving into Change The fictional novel entitled That Summer was written by author, Sarah Dessen. It was published in 1996 as her first book to be sold. Dessen states, "It was actually the third one I wrote, after a terrible book I did in college and one that was marginally better the year after. I never intended That Summer to be a YA (young adult) book while I was writing it" (Sarah Dessen, n. d.). She then goes on to state how her publisher believed it would be a good book for teenagers, so, she gave it a shot, and allowed it to be published. According to UNCTV, "Sarah Dessen grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and attended UNC–Chapel Hill, graduating with the highest honors in Creative Writing. She is the author of several novels and has a motion picture based on her first two books, entitled How to Deal. Her 11th novel, The Moon and More, was published in June 2013. She currently lives in North Carolina" (UNCTV, 2006). That Summer was inspired by Dessen's interest in writing about what she describes as "the change in youth's personality as they go through some sort of tragedy or loss" (Sarah Dessen, n. d.). • 12. Summer Vacations A success of a student relies on a the time spent in school. Anaheim high school students need to have longer hours in school to study for and get all the help they need and to make that happen there needs to be less summer vacation my argument is that KIPP students are smart and well educated because they have long hours of school and study for approximately 2 hours and read and listen to music for about the same time. "Relation of Education Insanity"(8). The scores show how students who had longer summer schools had a had low test scores and for those students who had less summer vacations and they had better test scores which is pretty impressive. Studying a lot and putting a lot of time in something would make it easier for your brain to function faster because you're constantly thinking. "The beginning is hard"(9). The beginning is hard but when you try and you challenge yourself you start to believe in yourself and become a successful person. Rewarding students is great to show them they are important and they need to treat themselves from putting in great work, but does it really help encourage and motivates the students? I believe yes it does motivate the students because they look at it as a goal. And it may push them to try harder and be successful. The longer hours at school is to become hard working and understand what you are doing and the studying for long hours is to help you become successful "What that extra time does is allow for a more relaxed ... • 13. Why Summer Shouldn T Be Extended Essay Why the Summer Shouldn't be Shortened The summer for kids should not be shortened because kids need a break, to experience real life events and not just school all day everyday. If kids are cooped up in school all day without breaks and vacations then how will kids be prepared for college or the real world when they have to make their own decisions. If they don't experience these things then students will be ill prepared. Kids need a break because they learn so much new information and so many new things that you can overload the brain (Should). Students should get the 10 week rest compared to the 40 week school year. Teacher Valerie Patterson says "children need a break from school in the summer to develop healthy habits and enjoy freedom" (Wornoff). This being said from a teacher, it must be an indicator that the summer should not be shortened or taken away. As students get older they possess harder and more homework and class work, as well as stressing about good grades and college. Summer is a time for a break and to settle down and not be so uptight. By having summer kids get to relax, have fun and not be so stressed. Summer should stay the same because it gives kids a time to settle down and relax. • 14. Why Is It Important To Keep Summer Break Do you remember how excited you used to get for summer break? Now imagine not having a break at all, having to continuously learn new subjects all year–long. Exhausting isn't it? There are some schools where there would be a 3–4 week break in the summer, but the winter break is longer than ours. Personally, I believe that we should keep our summer break the way it is because: both students and teachers deserve a break from school, constantly having new information drilled into your head all year–long is bound to put stress on anyone, and there are countless students who depend on summer break to work and/or travel. First off, students and teachers would not be able to stand each other by the end of the year. If the county had all year round school, we would all start resenting each other because of all the time we would be forced to spend together. Also, I know a couple of teachers who gave up one job for being a teacher because of summer break. They have time to travel and do whatever they want in the summer instead of being stuck in a building with teenagers all day. Plus, teachers also deserve a break from grading papers and talking until their voice is gone to kids who are probably not even listening. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I had dressed for comfort, wearing my blue shorts and my favorite worn out tee, I knew it was going to be a long hot drive. As I drove down the road, I soon realized that I had never been anywhere alone before. This was a new feeling to me, one of strength and fear rolled into one. While fighting the traffic to get out of town, I was thinking back on the conversation Mother and I had had the night before. I had not noticed that the neighbor's dog, Maggie, had come to the car until I heard her soft whine to get my attention. She was sitting next to the car wagging her tail as I opened the car door, excited to have my company. I unpacked the car and carried the few bags I had brought with me into the house. It was dark and cool inside despite the summer's heat. I opened the blinds and was again mesmerized by the beautiful view. I knew in that moment my coming here alone was just what I needed to heal from the stressful events I had just been through. I did not even bother to unpack, but instead I kicked off my shoes and immediately went with Maggie for a walk by the lake. We walked down the soft dirt path that leads to my special "sitting rock", which juts out over the water. • 17. Summer School Research Paper Summer school is not always a student's first choice, but it is a smart one for many. Many students struggle balancing heavy courses, just as the maths and sciences, along with an English credit. Many students enjoy English, but are unable to find a balance. Having three other courses on top of English, no matter the course, creates higher levels of stress due to different teachers assigning projects or tests on different days or perhaps even the same day. By taking a course in summer school, it allows the student to only focus on one subject. All of their effort can be put into that class without the added stress from other courses. This allows the students to give the teacher their undivided attention and focus. The second reason why summer school is an ideal option for many students is that is allows a student the opportunity to have a spare in the upcoming school year. Students, like myself, who are heavily focused on math and science are given a heavy load of equations to memorize and homework to accomplish. By making use of a spare, students are able to use this time to enhance their studies. Students would have more time to catch up on homework, study for tests and improve their ... Everyday, many people subside to many plagues, such as greed, sadness, loneliness, and many more. Ray Bradbury, an author, famous for futuristic short/long stories, shows many problems in current society, in literature form. Many stories he publishes are usually hinting to a certain theme and/or problem. He was born on August 22, 1920 in Waukegan IL, and died June 5, 2012, at the age of 91 in Los Angeles. He taught at the Los Angeles High School, and was very particular about his craft. Ray loved to put in lots of surrounding detail at every scene. One theme in particular is that greed and loneliness can create negative decisions and long term effects. Loneliness is a main factor to being an outcast. The thing we all know called Loneliness can cause an affect our lives, especially socially, which is relative to the theme. In All Summer in a Day, it states,"Margot stood apart from them, from these children who could ever remember a time when there wasn't rain and rain and rain... Temperature Analysis Of Temperature During The Summer Temperature Analysis The expectations I held when first given this assignment are echoed in the conceptual models presented in the guidance document: locations situated close to the ocean ought to exhibit cooler temperatures during the summer months while maintaining slightly warmer temperatures during the winter and that more inland locations should display slightly higher temperatures within the summer time but lower temperatures during the winter months. This expectation was largely influenced by the knowledge I have incurred while living in a coastal area: wind and surf carry cooler air to the coast during the summer while carrying warmer air to land during the winter. Upon reviewing the recorded temperatures within the six ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Continuing to follow the notion proposed within the given conceptual model, the southern stations showed that the inland city of Devil's Garden experienced substantially colder winters compared to the winter time temperatures seen in Miami Beach. Encountering an average winter temperature of 51.4 degrees, Devil's Garden is approximately 12 degrees cooler than Miami Beach's average minimum winter temperature of 63.6. These locations, however, did not exhibit such a large disparity in summer time temperatures with Devil's Garden's maximum average displayed at approximately 92 degrees and Miami Beach's maximum average displaying exactly 87 degrees. Upon further investigation, it appears that the discrepancy in average temperatures between the locations is perhaps caused by a sizable difference in latitudes with Devil's Garden situated at 38.8 degrees north compared to Miami Beach situated at 25.8 degrees north. This divergence is the most likely responsible for Miami Beach's high summer temperatures as areas in lower latitudes often experience warmer weather in addition to the fact that the beach is located closer to the equator. • 21. Summer Learning Loss: Future Research Working Definition When looking into the field of summer learning loss (SLL) there isn't much debate on if it exists, but there is slight variation in how to described it. In "Using Curriculum–Based Measurement to Examine Summer Learning Loss" SLL is explained as "an achievement gap among students based on family income, ethnicity, and home language that is present at the commencement of schooling and persists throughout all levels of education." (Patton & Reschily, 2013). The notion that SLL is related to a student's socioeconomic status (SES) is a concept that was accepted across the entire field. The definition provided by Patton and Reschily is similar to how SLL is expressed in "Summer Learning and its Implications." In this journal, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In "Summer Learning and its Implications" suggested that providing a summer outlet for low SES students with similar school materials and structure would aid in reducing SLL. Other suggestions include extending the school year, providing more cost friendly activities, and making the prospect of summer school more appealing to low–income students (Alexander, et al., 2007). Patton and Reschly propose that in the future research there should be an emphasis placed on the "recoupment, longitudinal studies of loss, and prevention". They identify that when looking at these different areas it's crucial that the multiple facets that impact them are also looked at, such as grade levels, subgrouping, when most academic growth occurs, and the type of instruction that will work best. Since the Kolose study didn't directly measure the achievement loss of students, their future research is different than those suggested in the previous studies. Kolose identifies three major areas that need to be improved in order to decrease the SLE. First, there needs to be greater access to resources for low SES students. Second, efforts need to be made by both teachers and parents to increase the motivation and engagement that high SLE have for reading. Finally, high SLE students need to be provided with additional support and guidance when choosing appropriate books and building their independent reading skills. While each study proposes different means to decrease SLL, they all are identifying ways to make this goal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I told her that was fine and to swing by whenever she was done cleaning, and that was the end of it. I only had to wait an hour, maybe two, before she arrived at my house. Although most students could go to a learning camp over the summer, lower income students cannot afford this as summer break is financially taxing on them. The witch Cecilia and the Greek witch Circe can have connections with appearance, with actions, and with the rest of the influence on the story. Circe had great influence and many similarities on the Summer of the Mariposas witch, Cecilia. This is something of great importance, and will show how this similarity can be seen with other characters and other books. In appearance, both witches have similar characteristics, first example being in seduction. In the book the girls were charmed by her love and affection, much like the men of Odysseus were in the odyssey. An example of Cecilia doing this would be when she is comforting Pita by saying "Come here, darling. Everything 's going to be okay. I promise"(McCall 136). Cecilia manipulated the girls into this as well as in appearance. She is described in always good ways like being "lovely and petite" as well as being addressed as "the enchanting woman began doting on us, like a tiny yellow butterfly, fluttering about"(McCall 130). In the odyssey Circe is showed as well in a loving calm way. The quote "You ought not to be, for I have already sworn solemnly that I will not hurt you" it shows she tries to manipulate them in the same passive way as Cecilia did(Homer, and Samuel Butler, Book 10, 7). (Jackson, 2017) discusses the pros and cons of continuing a child's education throughout their summer vacation. In favor of this idea was Vivien Stiles, a professional tutor for Kumon, who argued that studying over the summer would help children ease back into a full school year. Stiles continued to explain the program as a two day school week which teaches Mathematics and English. The average time it takes for each student to complete their homework for their class is between 15 and 90 minutes. Others, like Tanith Carey, fear that extending classroom education into the summer may overwhelm some young minds. She explained how her daughter felt so overwhelmed by her education experience she tried to deny an award she won because there was too much that surrounded the acceptance of that award. Once Carey realized how much stress the extra schooling during the summer was causing her daughter, she removed her from the tutoring program so she could play and experience a stress free childhood. In the books That Summer and The Crown this theme is demonstrated by the protagonist numerous times. Without question, Haven from That Summer may be lonely, but Eadlyn from The Crown is capable which is far more admirable. Without a doubt, a tremendously capable character in the book The Crown by Kiera Cass would be Eadlyn Schreave. To be capable is to be able to do the task at hand. One example that Eadlyn is capable is how she runs an entire kingdom so her dad can stay with her mother because her mom was sick. Running a huge kingdom at 18 years of age is a huge responsibility and Eadlyn was able to do it by enlisting her closest staff to come on a team to assist her. Another example that Eadlyn is capable is how she stopped a massive war from happening, due to her brother marrying the Queen of France and giving up his royal status. Eadlyn had to go against an entire congress of old men that wanted to start sending an army to France. It proved Eadlyn was capable of doing anything a man could do, and that she did not need to find a husband to rule over Illéa. • 34. Summer Break In High School Every May, schools across America exile their kids to the chaotic abyss known as summer. The general public view summer as a time of relaxation, but an increasing number of kids are using this time to commit crimes, get in trouble, and act disrespectfully. This may seem unacceptable, but the worst consequence of summer is not what kids are doing; on the other hand, the worst consequence of summer is what kids are not doing–learning. In the 1700s, school systems in America incorporated summer as a time for children to help their parents on the farm. Over time, as farming began to dwindle, summer evolved as a break from learning; consequently, children began to remember less. To accommodate for the summer learning loss epidemic and prevent children from indulging in detrimental activities, schools must shorten summer break. Children causing trouble is a common sight for most young parents; however, some children indulge in these acts a little too frequently. With parents off at work and children home, children have more time to develop bad habits and commit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... School corporations claim to use summer as a time to train, or retrain, teachers; however, teachers do not always benefit from this extra teaching. It is important for teachers to be trained, but training during the summer is not as effective as one might think. As students across America can attest, the first few weeks of the school year are used as review for last year. Class time is wasted reviewing material and teachers forget their training. According to CSBA, students retain 80 percent of the information taught during the previous year; consequently, teachers spend the first few weeks review the 20 percent of the information lost (Martineau). By the time last years information is retaught, it is hard for teachers to utilize their training. In order for teacher training to be more effective, summer break needs to be ... • 35. Summer Vacation It's not often that our family gets to fly back to the states to visit family so when my brother and I flew back during the summer of 2015, we were more than excited to be going back to South Carolina to see close relatives that we'd been missing. Since our relatives live on the coast it is often customary to visit the beach during our vacation to kick back and enjoy ourselves. After moving to Germany our experience with the sun and beach had been little to none. Needless to say, we were all excited to be going to the beach again since it had been some years and we'd forgotten what it was like to be at one. That summer vacation my brother and I were quickly reminded of all the fun to be had, the people we could meet, and the lessons we could learn while we were at the beach. When first arriving at the beach we were greeted by the sights of wet sand, crashing waves, strong blowing winds, and a hot radiating sun. After the initial setup of towels, umbrellas, and applying of sunscreen my cousins, brother and I bolted for the waves that rose up the shore. Swimming in a pool is nothing like swimming in the ocean, everything felt more extreme as we floated over waves and were dragged around by the current. It wasn't long until my brother and I were reminded of a childhood joy of ours, which was facing off against the waves. We would swim to a place where we could stand firmly and try to remain standing as waves would crash down often taking us with them. When we'd finish our fun ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Summer in the The 1000 Islands The 1000 Islands was a magnet for college age kids when we arrived in the 1960s. A multitude of colleges are located within one–hundred–and–twenty–five miles radius from Alexandria Bay. The local resorts and other businesses needed summer employees to accommodate the tourists and summer residents that flooded the area during the peak season. The region developed a reputation as a place for young people to go boating, meet the opposite sex, and generally have a blast for a couple of months. My pals and I who were members of the seasonal–resident community shunned the idea of staying near our schools or winter homes in order to get summer employment there. Going to summer school, like my sister Betsy often did, held no interest for me, and the concept of finding an internship for a future career choice had yet to become fashionable. Being at the river for the summer was really all that I cared about. My parents were inclined to be skeptical of a setting where fun and frivolity is a central theme. The idea that they could be responsible for funding such a program was especially unappealing to them. I discovered that my parents were not alone in their concerns. I've been both witness and the focus of more than one session of parental interrogations with a mom and dad asking questions like, "Where are you going to stay? How are you going to support yourself? Are you mature enough to exercise good judgment in your actions and interactions?" I noticed that the conversations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
