3. DIGITAL LITERACY
• Digital literacy is the awareness, attitude and abilities of
people to properly use digital gadgets and facilities of
identifying, accessing, evaluating, and synthesizing resources
available online, constructing new knowledge, creating media
expressions, and communicating with others.
• Digital literacy means digital skills or having digital capabilities
that needs to live, learn, and work in a society where
communication and access to information is increasing
through digital technologies like internet platforms, social
media and mobile devices.

Digital Competence
•Digital competence refers to the power and skill of
people to find out and use digital space.
•Basic skills like finding content from Google,
editing text in Word, presenting content in
PowerPoint as well as sending an email are
among these skills.

Digital User
• The power of people to use their digital competencies in
individual and social life to unravel problems and
achieve pre-determined goals is named digital user.
Digital Transmission
• Using digital competencies and inner talent to advance
technology and expand the digital space is named
digital transmission.

7. PRINCIPALS OF DIGITAL LITERACY
• Comprehension: It refers to the ability of readers of
digital media to be able to understand its content.
• Interdependence: The proliferation of digital devices
has made it easier to consume content from different
mediums.
• Curation: Curation refers to finding, organizing and
saving digital media in a way that makes it easier to
access and use this information in future.

8. EFFORTS FOR DIGITAL LITERACY IN PUNJAB
• The school Education Department Government of
Punjab is continuously & closely working with PITB to
develop, test and implement e-Learning solutions that
can help to improve student learning outcomes for public
school students.
• Ed-Tech solutions, including tablets for teachers, LEDs
in classrooms, tablets for students, tablet-based smart
labs, and e-learning systems have been tested.
Implementations have been done in 250 classrooms -
impacting 10,000 students, and hundreds of teachers.

•PCTB textbooks for grades 6 to 10 have been
digitized with thousands of interactive multimedia
components.
•Free, online content is available via the e-Learn
Punjab website, and offline content also for
parents and students.
•Terrain-viable classroom technology solutions
have been developed so that multimedia content
can be used in class.

• Flipped Classroom Approach: A learning model where
students go through their study materials at home and do their
assignments in the classroom. With the flipped approach,
teachers aim to make the learning process more engaging.
• Augmented Reality: In augmented reality, computer-generated
graphics are overlaid on images of the physical world,
augmenting reality with digital images.
• Virtual Reality: VR displays enhanced visuals & makes the
user believe that they are present in a different world altogether.
Virtual reality replaces the physical world with a digital
experience.

• Audiobooks and Dictation Software: It enables students, who
are unable to read due to various physical challenges, to listen
& learn their course materials etc. from audiobooks.
• Social Media for Collaborative Learning: Social Media has
certain features which prove helpful in the learning process.
From being an online platform to killing time, social media has
evolved into one of the effective mediums for collaboration and
interaction.
• Live Streaming: With live streaming meeting features, you
can stream Zoom Meetings from school to school, school to
expert, remote teaching and learning, etc.

• Artificial Intelligence Literacy: AI literacy is the terminology
currently used in policies and by AI education specialists to
describe the competencies to transforms the way that we
communicate, work, and live with each other and with machines.
• Simulation Games: Simulation provides a virtual outlook of a
real-life situation to understand the concepts by actually being
part of the process. Simulation exercises are done on a digital
screen, where the user can control the actions.
• Digital Content Libraries: It is a virtual library consisting of
interactive learning nuggets which keep students engaged in the
content.
