2. Research intentions
My current plan for this project is to create a movie trailer for a comedy similar in style to Edgar Wright, that
will feature at least one fight scene. Furthermore, I also plan to create a variety of promotion to go with this
trailer e.g., a movie poster. I will create this trailer in Adobe Premier Pro and use Photoshop for my poster
creation and any other photo-based design aspect for the trailer and promotional images. I may also utilize the
program Adobe After Effects for more 3 Dimensional effects.
In order to create this project, I will need to research my audience and existing projects related to my work, so
that I may be significantly knowledgeable in the comedy/action genre before the planning stage.
When it comes to my audience, I plan to create surveys using âsurveymonkeyâ and distribute it to my target
audience via the use of Instagram, discord, reddit and other sources in order to be informed of what aspects I
should utilize, to make my project heed towards audience demand. Furthermore, I plan to conduct some 1-1
interviews in order to gain some more qualitative and personal information. These sources of information will
allow me to improve my work massively, with the surveys allowing me to gain clear data trends from the
quantitative results, and my interviews allowing me to establish more specific and opinion-based answers in
greater detail.
I am also planning to research some existing movies and their style of direction, as well as their trailers. I plan
to focus especially on movies by Edgar Wright, as he is a director whose unique style, I am hoping to take the
greatest inspiration from (movies like Shawn of the dead, Hotfuzz and Baby Driver). I am also planning to look
at movies by other directors, so I can find similarities and not be swayed too much by Edgar Wright specifically.
When looking at these, I plan to breakdown specific styles that the movies utilize and how they are presented
in their respective trailers.
4. Target
Audience
Profile
The project is aimed at English males
between the ages of 16 - 19. More
specifically it will be aimed at teens with
satire attitudes, who enjoy comedy and
action.
5. Online Surveys
⢠I have utilised many different sources of social media to get audience feedback. One such
source that I have used is discord, as I am apart of many discord servers with people who are
interested in specific things (e.g. film/videogames/editing). Furthermore, I have quite a few
discord friends and groups who I have personally requested to help me out with my survey.
Discord is great in terms of targeting specific groups relevant to my project, however one
disadvantage is that it is more difficult to get a variety of groups, as I have to be invited
personally or use other social media to find invites to groups.
⢠This is where Reddit comes in, as the other source of response I got asides from Instagram
and Discord mainly came from it. Reddit was a great source of responses when it comes to
targeting many different groups, as I was able to find specific subreddits that I targeted my
research towards, while also being able to send my survey to groups of a wider range, which
both Instagram and discord are less helpful in fulfilling.
⢠The disadvantage of using reddit is that it may be harder for people to come across it, which
is where discord and Instagram come in handy, as I was able to guarantee responses form
people I know, while also being able to get a few extra response from people I donât know off
of reddit. The combination of these three platforms has been extremely helpful in getting
responses for my surveys.
6. Online survey
Advantages:
⢠Easily accessible
⢠Wide range of responses
⢠Easy and quick to fill out
⢠Can target specific audiences or wide range of people, depending on what
you want
Disadvantages:
⢠Easily ignored
⢠People may not respond in a way they mean, but in what they think would
be a funnier answer
⢠May be difficult to contact people who have responded who I do not know
7. Audience Research - Genre
Genres Movie Breakdown
1995-2022 (the-numbers.com)
According to this data by the-numbers.com, Action is
the second most popular genre and comedy is the
fourth most popular genre. Seeing as my project is
going to overlap with two of the most popular genres,
this means that I will be helping to contribute towards
two of the biggest genres in film and help bring them
together in one.
8. Audience Research â Social Media
Reach of social media sites used by age
15-25 in the UK: ⢠UK: most popular social
media with young adults and teens 2020 |
Statista
According to this information
the most popular sites used by
ages 12-25 are YouTube,
Facebook, WhatsApp and
Instagram. Based on these
figures I have concluded that I
will try to share my finished
work on these platforms, and
perhaps even try to refer to one
of the more popular platforms
in order to allow teens to relate
to it more.
9. Audience Research â Trailer Length
https://stephenfollows.com/long-
average-movie-trailer/
According to
stephenfollows.com the average
length of a movie trailer is
approximately 2-2.5 minutes
long, with 1.5-2 minutes also
being quite close in popularity.
Based off this information I have
concluded that when aiming to
create a trailer I should try and
keep it within these times of 1.5-
2.5 minutes.
10. Audience Research-
Popular Brands
According to Youth 100
magazine, the 3 most popular
brands with 18â24-year-olds
are: Amazon, YouTube and
google. Based off these
statistics it may be beneficial
for me to mention said brands
in order t connect with the
market.

11. Audience Research-Popular
Clothing Brands
According to Youth 100
magazine Converse, Vans,
Leviâs, Adidas and Nike make
up the top 5 most popular
brands with 18â24-year-olds.
This will help me with my
project, as I may now decided
to choose characters clothing
from these brands in order to
make it more relevant.

13. Action Choreography â Ruustic â Stacking
- notes
Fight scene
Selling a hit:
The main 3 parts are:
Camera work
Action
Reaction
Camera Work: The camera trick used is called stacking, where you align your hit with the reaction in the same 2-D
space (donât hit them but make it look like you do from camera perspective).
You donât have to be that close to them. When doing the hit imagine a line across the eye and nose line to aim
across. Also, if it is a low angle, aim for more of the chin, if high angle aim higher up than the line.
Action: The action is sold on the acting, so bear in mind the emotions the character would be feeling, if they are
tired and why they are fighting (e.g., are they fighting because theyâre where forced? Or because they want to do
so).
The body language is important: in fight choreography you want to exaggerate your movements.
Reaction: a key selling point is the recoil, which depends on the strength of the hit. Also remember that different
parts of the body can take recoil. Keep eyes open. Practice the timing
Tips: 1. Communicate and make sure everyone is comfortable and that they understand what they need to do. 2.
Keep it simple. 3. Donât rush it as you can speed it up in post.

How to shoot a fight scene - notes
My own notes based on the above article:
⢠Stand away from your opponent and put your arms fully extended and fists against each other, in
order to keep yourselves a safe distance apart. Imagine a semi circle between you and your foe, and
punch big and exaggerated across that, keeping the arms quite extended in order to make it look
better on the camera.
⢠The only time you get hit is by a body punch. You punch with a loose fist (so the force gets lost) and
aim for their belt. The key to selling the reaction is the bend in knees.
⢠Maintain eye contact.
⢠Remember to vocalise being hit, like âughâ sounds.
⢠Remember the camera angle and try to break the plane between the punch location and the camera,
so the hit breaks the connection between the location and the camera (covers it to look real a bit).
⢠Come across the plane heading out the camera e.g. if on one side try and hit across the angle to the
other side.
⢠Make sure the hit is visible on camera, so sometimes step out a bit so that it can be seen, because if it
isnât visible, it does not exist.
⢠If there is a choking stunt, the person getting choked pulls the arms towards them, and the person
choking them pulls away from it.
⢠Throws should be controlled by the person being thrown, the person throwing simply guides them.
⢠Include layers and levelling to the fight so it does not become a boring punch, punch fight scene - try
to add other objects like sugar glass bottles or breakable stunt tools.

16. Movie Geometry â Now You See It - notes
Shapes can get emotional responses from the viewers, and if done subtly can get an emotional
response without the viewer even realising.
Squares and other shapes can be used to frame within the frame, with squares adding to making
the characters seem enclosed and isolated
Circles can evoke feelings of being surveilled.
Rows of horizontal and vertical lines can make characters seem trapped and imprisoned.
Triangles can illustrate power dynamic, linear framing can show separation, straight lines can guide
eyesight.
Facial and body Shape
Circle (soft and round) = loveable characters e.g. mickey mouse, the most famous Disney character
drawn with 3 circles
Square (sturdy and boring) = boring/old-fashioned or sturdy and firm
e.g. Carl Fredrick man has a square face and nose
Triangle (sharp features) = evil characters
e.g. the devil is commonly drawn with triangular features

18. Hot Fuzz
As I am basing a lot of my style and feel for the
project on Edgar Wright, the style of my movie trailer
is going to be quite like this. Hot Fuzz is an Edgar
Wright production, and is a movie that I feel
particularly inspired by, as it utilizes a unique
editing/filming style and fast-paced comedy that manages to keep the viewers captivated
throughout pretty much the whole movie. As the same is with all three in the cornetto
trilogy (this, Shawn of the Dead, the Worlds End). I have been particularly inspired by the
none verbal comedy used to make ordinary objects and actions seem interesting, as well
as the way in which Edgar Wright uses fast cut scenes to show travel, replacing the normal
drone shots and camera pans with deliberate and quick shots that
tell part of the story in a unique and different way. The movie also
utilizes a lot of zooms, camera movement and light flashes that
help to keep the fast pace, with loud exaggerated audio. I want to
add similar effects to my trailer, with lots of zooms, camera
movement and making normal things seem interesting.
19. Hot Fuzz
One scene that shows these points very clearly is when Simon
Peggâs character âSargeant Angelâ is doing paperwork. The scene
starts off with Angel double clicking two pens while the camera
zooms in, this makes such an ordinary and regular thing such as
clicking pens seem âbad assâ.
This is then followed by one of Edgar Wrights famous fast cut shots,
where it is splitting between the paperwork and the kids having
their ID taken. These series of cuts are accompanied by lots of
zooms, light flashes and camera movement, giving such a boring
task a much more serious and important tone. This is what makes
scenes like these work, as it is very easy in movies just to have the
characters do a simple task without giving it much life or thinking
about how to be creative with the scenes, but Edgar and Simon
managed to give this scene such an abundance of character; for
example, you can tell through this scene that Angel is meticulous
and takes his job seriously through how thorough he is being, you
also see all the processes he goes through doing the paperwork and
taking peoples photos. You manage to get such a vast amount of
character and story telling from a twenty-one second clip with very
little actual dialogue accompanying it.
20. Hot Fuzz - Trailer
The trailer focuses more on the action-comedy aspects,
with a much more typical 2000âs voice over style to it (as
it was made in 2007). In the trailer they tell you Angels
character, the basic plot (murders happening) and use
numerous jokes from the movie to present it as a much
more humorous parody of super serious cop dramas. In
my opinion the trailer presents the movie as much less
serious than it is, as while the movie focuses on making a
serious situational comedy. Sudden twists are surprising,
the trailer focuses more on the comedic tone and
ridiculousness of the whole situation of murders in a
rural âperfect townâ. Furthermore, the music in the trailer
is much more upbeat than in the actual movie. Differing
from the movie, the trailer tells you about the movie and
what to expect, which is completely different from Hot
Fuzz, which uses Edgarâs preference of showing character
as apposed to telling you who a character is (which is just
lazy writing). This creates a distinctly different tone from
the trailer when compared to the movie, leaving room for
the movie to shine in a different light to the advert.
21. ⢠During my research into Edgar Wright/Hot Fuzz I watched
Every Frame a Paintingâs: âEdgar Wright â How to Do Visual
Comedyâ and took notes on it.
Edgar Wrights Comedy
Things entering the frame in funny ways
People leaving the frame in funny ways
There and back again (move one spot, then another, then back; Or light on them off, that sort of stuff).
Matching scene transitions (same scene layout, can show passage of time or location).
Perfectly timed sound effects (funny sounds of natural things perhaps).
Action synchronised to the music.
Super dramatic lighting cues (sudden bright lights, or sudden dark to bright).
Also, he always does the fences falling over, so try have my own unique stuff going on.
Breaking from the pace is another thing that he does, like for example the is a fast-paced compilation of him getting ready,
then he spends like 10 seconds tying his shoelaces.
Explaining a situation, by having fast-paced cuts of different scenes, as done in Hot Fuzz, in the cut screen of him leaving
London, showing the different times of day, by cutting from day to night with him sleeping, him on different trains and a
zoom in on the taxi all happening in a few seconds.
Another thing he does it try to make boring things interesting, such as the scene in hot fuzz where he has two pens on him
already, which also shows the characters personality quite well. Or literally just writing, where he uses lots of lost pace
cuts, zooms, camera movement and flashes of light, to make a simple thing visually entertaining.
22. Hot Fuzz â Audience Profile
Finding data on Hot Fuzz audience is quite difficult for me to do, as the is not a lot on the
internet, however I believe it to be aimed primarily at young adults of working class. After some
digging, I did finally find a source that talks about the âTarget Audienceâ for âHot Fuzzâ In greater
detail. The source is âJameschkcmedia.wordpressâ.
Task 3: The Audience Of Hot Fuzz. | James L Chappell (wordpress.com)
The graph shows that the average age
range is between 14-24
âBeing an action film Hot Fuzz is moderately male
skewed, but the comedy element opens the doorway
to make it appealing to both genders. Hot Fuzz is
aimed primarily at a young adult audience based on
a working-class lifestyle, for example a 9-5 job,
enjoys going out some nights for a drink and so on.
Essentially lower-to middle class.â
â This section of quotes reinforces my theory of
theory of it being aimed at young males of working
class, as James has come to a similar conclusion that
the has reenforced with it being an action film as
reasoning. Plus, he has put on a graph that shows
the statistics of the age range, so his statements are
backed up by facts and sound reasoning that
intertwine with my own opinions of what I believe
the target audience to be.
23. Central Intelligence
Central Intelligence is a movie where a once chubby high
school geek called Bob (Dwane Johnson) becomes a CIA
agent and reunites with the most popular kid in school
called Calvin (Kevin Heart) who is living a boring life and
reminiscing about his glory days. The comedy aspect focuses on the fact that Calvin (an office worker) is
completely out of depth in this new world and is being reluctantly dragged along despite the constant
danger. The movie has quite a few references that are about the actors themselves, with the rocks
surname in this being stone and his character having a fanny pack (from a famous photo of the younger
Dwane), and Kevin Heart being asked if he is a comedian. Most of the comedy comes from the dialogue
between the two main characters, however they utilize a number of funny visuals, like using a
banana as a weapon, or the rock (who is quite a large man) seeming to almost
teleport off screen or clean up a a massive mess in mere seconds off screen
with his over-the-top CIA movements that defy common sense. My plan for
the project I am planning to do is quite different from this movie in terms of
plot and style, but I am particularly fond of the over the top and seemingly
paranormal skills that the Bob has. I also quite like the character archetype
that Kevin heart plays as Calvin, a popular high school student failing to find
meaning in his now boring life regaining some of his former confidence.
24. Central Intelligence- Window scene
One of the most famous scenes is the one where they jump
out of the window and land on an inflatable monkey, only to
hop in their uber that has just arrived. In this scene Bob has
essentially been throwing Calvin into a trolly for half of it,
while in a shoot-out, with Calvin trying to escape, only for
Bob to essentially throw him out the window with himself.
This scene is particularly funny as Calvin has been trying to
prove his innocence up until this point, only to be dragged
back into it because of Bob and a series of unfortunate
mistakes. You can really see the difference in character while
falling, as Calvin is falling like he's going to die, and Bob is
falling with confidence; plus, when they land it takes Calvin a
considerably longer amount of time to escape the inflatable.
Everything in this clip is great and is inspiring with how well
the acting accompanies the physical comedy, by establishing
clear characters you can create humorous situations by the
context established, this has made me think about focusing
on giving my characters clear motives and personality's, in
order to use their personalities to create situational humour.
25. Central Intelligence- Trailer
The trailer concentrates on the action and comedy aspects of
the movie, showing some of the funniest and most iconic clips.
It offers explosions, fights jumping out of window,, failed flips,
dancing in the shower, with the character not willing to follow a
bad suggestion, but being forced into it. The first clip they show
is the clip of the CGI rockâs face on a fat guys body, the humor
here is that the rock is such a buff and muscular fellow, so it is
hard to imagine him as a fat dancing man. This clip immediately
draws in the audience, as it is arguably one of the funniest clips
in the movie. The tone of the trailer is quite tense and
humorous. The music is quite over the top and really enhances
the atmosphere of the trailer, making it much more action
packed and comedic.
26. Central Intelligence - Audience Profile
It has been quite a struggle to find any information about the intended audience of
âCentral Intelligenceâ, however I estimate it to be aimed towards older children and their
parents. As it Is a PG 13 movie that has some obvious straight forward jokes clearly for
children, like the name âGolden Jetâ being because he peed his pants when running and
winning a race and has a few more adult topics like sex and emotional trauma. It is
definitely more of a family movie for adults with children aged 13 and up, as the age of
my brother when my family and I watched it was 14.
This estimate is supported by this review off rotten tomatoes, which talks about how
much a person and their son loved the movie and gives it 5 stars. This was the first 5 star
review I found and makes sense as the target audience should be the ones giving it the
highest score.
27. Central Intelligence â Poster Breakdown
Pun about the difference in height
between Kevin and Dwane, also a pun
about Kevin's surname. This tells the the
viewer that they are in it, incase the do not
recognize the iconic duo, while also giving
people a little chuckle and letting them
know it is a funny movie
The two main characters are center
page to advertise the fact the two A
list celebrities are in the movie.
Shows the characters through the facial
expressions and body language, Kevin
heart looks scared and out of place, the
Rock looks prepared and confident, even
though the are a lot of points where he
doesnât show that much confidence in the
movie, they make sense due to him getting
over a pas trauma.
Yellow is a both a happy colour and a
colour that represents deceit, which
shows that the movie is enjoyable, but
also has many twists in it, with some
things maybe not being as they seem.
28. Spy
A CIA analyst named Susan Cooper (played by
Melissa McCarthy) who has spent her entire career
behind a desk and is thrown into the field when her
operative is apparently assassinated.
The unique comedy of this movie comes from the
juxtaposition of having a middle aged robust
woman with little field experience having to take
on a dangerous and high performance mission. The writers and director (Paul Feig) are aware
of this, and jokes about her being a crazy cat lady, or having really boring cover story are
frequently used. Most of the characters in the movie are hyper exaggerations of character
tropes, with Jason Statham's character Rick Ford being the over the top spy who is always
talking about how dangerous and ridiculous his missions are, Rose Byrnes character Rayna
being the hyperbolic spoilt rich kid, and Miranda Hart's character Nancy being the over the
top comedic and obsessive best friend. A lot of the comedy comes from constantly
exaggerating these tropes progressively, or turning them around in a comedic style.
The movie shows Susan slowly gaining her confidence and peaking up for herself, which is a
great example of character development. The ending of the movie is great, as it has Susan
and Rick wake up together after drink some wine, this scene is quite comedic, as the two
characters have hated each other throughout most of the movie.
29. Spy - Clip
(133) Spy | "Gadgets" Clip [HD] | 20th Century FOX - YouTube
She firstly sees some cool and interesting gadgets, such as guns and watches, asking if they
are for her, however since this is a comedic movie she's told that they are not. In this scene
Susan is going to get her spy gadgets, however it plays a twist on the trope of the main
characters getting really cool gadgets, with her getting lame gadgets that are quite silly. For
example she gets some fungus spray, which is actually a gadget that can freeze and disable
any security system and is also a pepper spray. The comedy of this comes from the fact that
the spray is not very visually appealing and would suggest she had really bad toenails,
which is not exactly badass. Also, as her friend points out, the device could have been
disguised as pepper spray. Another gadget is a load of haemorrhoid wipes that have
chloroform in, which once again isn't very badass and suggest some rather nasty things.
A lot of the comedy of this scene comes from the characters objecting and complaining
about the stupid gadgets.
The camera in this moves around a little bit when focusing on characters (the is not very
much camera movement in this scene though), it switches between the characters when
they are speaking, keeping on the same 180 degree axis. It also cuts to close ups of the
items.
30. Spy - trailer
(131) Spy Official Trailer #1 (2015) - Melissa
McCarthy, Rose Byrne Comedy HD - YouTube
This trailer starts off quite serious, with the first 24 Ish seconds
seeming like your typical spy action flick with a bomb and stakes,
however this illusion is broken by him suddenly sneezing and
shooting his gun, which creates a loud noise that creates a break
in the tense music. Afte focusing on the character who had
appeared to be the main protagonist (but isn't), it then switches
to Susan who is in her office and goes for a meal where she
complains about her life to her friend. This helps set the mood
for what the movie is going to be like, a lot of apparent twists on
tropes, and situational comedy.
After this the trailer doe an exposition dump on us, to get us
interested and give us a general understanding about the plot of
the movie, with the previous two clips having set the mood, and
this part giving us the details.
The las quatre of the trailer has some quite high pace music, with
quite a it of action and ending on a comedic break of he falling
over. The intention of this last scene is to leave an intrigued effect
on the viewer, and end it smoothly by having a loud sound break
at the end of the trailer.
31. After Life - Trailer
Afterlife is a dark comedy series thatâs streamed on Netflix by Ricky Gervais.
The trailer is presented as being depressing and sad, but is lifted up by the use
of comedy and relaxing music, which helps keep the viewer entertained and
slightly uplifted through the sadness. Just a straight up depressing trailer
wouldnât make many people want to watch it.
The first part of the trailer focuses on narration from Tonys wife Lisa, which is
a massive part of the series as a whole, and most episodes will feature a clip
she left for him (typically at the start). The second part of the trailer focuses
on him talking to his brother in law âMattâ about how crap everything is, with
the final third featuring more of the other characters from the series.
The trailer has a sense of movement and journey, with the Ricky Gervaisâs
character first starting at the therapists, arriving home, leaving home, walking
past a school which is on the way to work, walking outside the street of his
work, and finally arriving at his destination. When he arrives at his house he is
facing towards the left hand side, when he leaves the house and until he
arrives at his job, he is facing towards the right hand side of the screen. This is
a method of giving the trailer a continuous feel, with the sense of motion
being kept correct.

32. Deadpool Poster
Colour scheme is red and black against a white background. The
colours are red and black as they are Deadpoolâs suit colours, plus
red represents the colour of blood, as the is a lot of killing and blood
in the movie. The white is used to make the colours stand out.
The term âBadassâ refers to the fact that it is a superhero movie
The term âsmart assâ refers to the fact that he is a character who
constantly pushes people's buttons.
The term âgreat assâ plays to the fact that the movie is quite sexual,
and the fact that is a comedic and funny movie.
These three sentences that make up the tag line follow the basic rule
of three in English righting, where humans as a whole find things in a
list of three to be more appealing.
The pose of Deadpool himself on the poster is him parodying a
teenage girl pose from on early 2000 sort of movie (possibly a
specific movie, however I can not find it after a lot of research), with
him having a pink back pack, but dressed up in his full murk with a
mouth costume. This poster plays on the fact that Deadpool is a
character who breaks the 4th wall pretty much all the time, as the
poster is believable as something Deadpool would do as a joke.
https://zaikaservant.wordpress.com/2015/12/07/semiotic-analysis-of-deadpool-
movie-poster/
34. Question 1
I started out by asking people to tell me their gender, this is
useful as it will help me focus more on my specific target
audience (which is primarily males).
35. Question 2
For my second question I asked people for their
age, as once again it helps me extract data from
my key target audience, which just so happens
to be 16-19 year olds.
36. Question 3
My third question is asking the audience to select which aspect they believe to be the most important
when it comes to comedy movies, the general response was the timing, with visuals/ slapstick being
the second most voted, and the jokes, story and situational comedy each respectively getting 10% of
the votes. One response stated that they believed them all to be important aspects.
This in general shows that my audience generally believe that timing and pace are the most important,
however that they believe it takes a range of different aspects of consideration to create a good
comedy.
I will make my work appeal to my audience by keeping good timing and pace with both the comedy and
action, while considering many of the other aspects listed as well during the process.
37. Question 4
⢠Observation:
⢠What this says about my
audience:
⢠How will your product
appeal to this audience:
For my 4th question I asked people whether they thought a good movie trailer has a fast pace and 90
percent said that they believed that to be the case.
From this it can be concluded that my audience generally prefer fast pace and entertaining trailers, as
apposed to longer and more heavy trailers.
In order to make my product appeal to my audience I plan to make my own trailer quite fast paced and
entertaining.
38. Question 5
50 percent of people thought the length should be under two minutes and over one,
with the other 50 percent being spread between two and 3 minuets (split between 30
seconds). This shows that my audience clearly prefer the movie trailer being short, but
also not too long, with the average of these scores equating to pretty much bang on two
minutes. In order to appeal towards my audience I will try to aim for my trailer to be two
minutes long, allowing a bit of leeway in exact time (a bit longer, or shorter if needed in
the edit).
39. Question 6
Most people think that a colorful image is the most important, with other options
such as being easy to read, simple layout and a good title being ranked close to it.
This suggests that my audience want a movie poster to be colorful, easy to read, with
a good title and a simple layout. In order to meet these statistics results, I plan to
follow this criteria when it comes to making my poster.
40. Question 7
The result of my question about styles of comedy is a mixture of both having the
highest amount of votes, and dark humor being a close second. This signifies that
my audience want me to utilize a mixture of dark and light comedy, with it being a
bit more bias towards dark comedy. In order to make my product appeal to my
audience, I will try to include aspects of both types of comedy, with a preference for
dark comedy.
41. Question 8
The results of what results people would like to see in a fight scene is split between the
character just easily winning, or winning but not easily. This split signifies that my audience do
not mind either of these outcomes, but donât want the character to loose the fight. In my
work I will choose between these two, depending on how funny it could be in context, as the
character winning easily but looking stupid could be quite funny; as well as losing but getting
injured, it would make it feel a bit more comedic in the action, like Jackie Chan does.
45. Interview 1
Q1: for this question Matt specified that he wanted âoriginal jokesâ with âno cringy one linersâ. This
qualitative data signifies that my audience are not fans of common and cringy jokes and lines, and
that they prefer more thought-out comedy. Some basic comedy movies try to fill themselves with
these âone linersâ, which would not suit my target audience (of course it can be done effectively if
done right, e.g., Deadpool). I will try to adhere to this in the production of the advert.
Q2: Matt said that he believed that pacing was an important aspect, and that it is important to
keep the viewer excited and immersed throughout the trailer. This signifies that my target
audience want a fast pace and entertaining trailer that keeps them entertained for the duration.
In order to make my work fit my audience demands, I will focus on keeping the pacing fast
enough to make it entertaining.
Q3: Matt said what he wanted from a good fight scene, he put âuse of nearby objectsâ. This is an
aspect that is utilized by great fighting choreographers, as use of space helps create a sense of
immersion in the scene that the fight takes place in. This signifies that my audience is aware of
this aspect and wants to feel immersed in the action. To meet my audiences' expectations, I will
keep in mind my set locations and utilize props from the environment to enhance the scenes.
47. Interview 2
Q1: Dan said that he would like a good comedy to feature jokes, especially dark comedy. This
indicates that my audience want most of the jokes to be of the dark kind. In order to meet my
audience requirements, I will try to feature several jokes, with preference for dark comedy.
Q2: When asked if pacing was important, Dan said that he believed that to be the case as it
creates excitement for the audience. This indicates that my audience want an exciting and fast
paced comedy trailer. In order to make my work fit my audience demands I will focus on keeping
the pacing fast enough to make it entertaining, while also keeping the quality to a good level.
Q3: Dan said that he wants characters to use objects around them to create comedic effect. Dan
and the audience clearly want me to utilize my set locations and props to the fullest, which I shall
try to do, in order to keep the comedic effect, they want.
