Tiantangzhai (national AAAAA-level tourist scenic spot, national
nature reserve, national forest park, national geological park) is the
second highest peak of Dabie Mountain, inscribed by Mr. Wu
Bangguo, chairman of the 11th National People’s Congress Standing
Committee. Located in the border of Jinzhai County of Anhui Province
and Luotian County of Hubei Province, it has the reputation of “the
last piece of virgin forest in East China, the kingdom of plants, and
the ocean of flowers”.
The Dabie Mountains where Tiantangzhai is located is the watershed
of the north and south water system of China. The north of the
mountain flows into the Huaihe River, and the south of the mountain

Historical evolution
Tiantangzhai is called Hengshan, also known as the cloudy mountain.

Since 1994, Tiantangzhai has successively compiled the “Overview of
Tiantangzhai”, “The Planning of Tiantangzhai National Forest Park”
and “The Planning of Tiantangzhai Scenic Spots”. In 2002,
Tiantangzhai was approved as a provincial-level tourism poverty
alleviation experimental area.
On June 21, 2010, the Trademark Review and Adjudication Board of
the State Administration for Industry and Commerce made a review
and ruling, and cancelled the registered trademark of the
“Tiantangzhai and Tu” tourism category that the State Trademark
Office decided to give to the state-owned Luotian Tiantangzhai Forest
Farm in Hubei Province. The ruling held that the name of the tourist
scenic spot should be regarded as a kind of public resource in services
such as travel arrangements, and should not be monopolized by
individual subjects. Hubei Tiantangzhai Forest Farm and Anhui
Tiantangzhai share the registered trademark of “Tiantangzhai”.

Position
Tiantangzhai is located at the junction of Jinzhai County, Anhui
Province and Luotian and Yingshan, Hubei Province, at 31 degrees
north latitude and 115 degrees east longitude.
Climate
Tiantangzhai has a perennial rainfall of 1350mm and an average
temperature of 16.4°C. Tiantangzhai belongs to the warm and humid
climate of North Asia. It has typical mountain climate characteristics,
mild climate, abundant rainfall, warm and light season, and rain and
heat in the same season.

Biological resources
By the end of 2012, there were 1487 species of wild plants and 634
species of animals in Tiantangzhai. There are rare animals and plants
in the scenic spot, such as wild boar, pangolin, leopard, unrelenting
cat, original scorpion, big scorpion, wolf, otter, long-tailed pheasant,
and pearly boxwood. Tiantangzhai is one of the seven gene banks in

The vegetation status of Tiantangzhai National Forest Park is the
southern margin of the deciduous broad-leaved mixed forest in the

Huaxiang, Xiaoyejing, Sui, Dalbergia, Violet Stems, etc., mainly

Tiantangzhai National Forest Park is located at the intersection of the
three major floras of East China, Central China and North China. The
