2. INTRODUCTION
Sealing machines are machines used to close
and seal an individual package or provide a
long continuous horizontal or vertical seal.
sealing is the surface to surface joining
technique of materials using a substance
which usually is of a different type and which
adhere to surface of the two adherents to be
joined, transferring the forces from one
adherent to the other.
3. The machine used for sealing is known
as sealant or sealer. Sealing is used to
fasten or seal two surfaces together,
usually producing a smooth bond.
Some sealing equipment are made
from stainless steel for improving
corrosion resistant.
4. TYPES OF SEALING MACHINES
Machines are grouped into two types and
these are;
1.Automatic sealing machines
These machines aid only in the setting or
holding of products.
2. Manual sealing machines
In these machines every operation is aided.
5. Division of sealing machines based on
their functions
1. Semi automatic sealers
It helps in both packaging and placement, allowing a single
operator to perform several activities with greater speed
and accuracy.
2. Fully automatic sealer
Equipment requires limited operator intervention typically,
operators need only replenish packaging components by
loading supply hoppers removing completed cartons. One of
main different between sem and fully automatic machines is
that fully automated sealers close all the flaps before
topping while sem automatic sealers tape only the top and
bottom.
6. 3.Uniform case sealers
Should be used for production rans of
cases of the same size. They can be
physically reset between cases of box.
4.Random case sealer
These are used when each box can vary
randomly.
8. The machine is set on which allows a
motor to run thereby producing heat
while allows all processes to be
conducted, the packaging bag is
connected to the sealing pattern roller,
where sealing takes place as the
package passes through it by the convey
belt.
10. The machine is turn on to produce heat
for sealing the packages. The operator
inserts the package between the sealing
bars and then presses the pedal using a
foot which allows the sealing bars to
close. The sealing bar presses on the
wire and firm to melt and mend the
material forming a seal.
11. Factors to consider when setting up a
sealing machine
1. Availability of spare parts
2. Cost of the machine
3. Speed of the machine
4. Durability
5. Capacity
12. Importances of sealing
1.It improves appearance
2.It perform a joining function
3.It coats and protect a surface of
the package
4.It prolongs shelf life of a product
13. Advantages of sealing machines
1. Saves time due to high sealing
rate
2. It is effective since the packages
are completely sealed
3. It prevent contamination of food
products contained in the package
14. Disadvantages of sealing machines
1. The cost of sealing machine is high
2. Job loses due to technologies
3. High rate of energy consumption
4. The packaging material can shrink
slightly if caring is not applied during
sealing.
15. Conclusion
Sealing machines must adhere to certain
standards to ensure proper design and safe
handling. The use of sealing machines are
important more especially at industrial level
where production rate is high to prevent
contamination which can affect the quality
and quantity of the product.
