Emergency Evacuation & Fire
Know your
Alarm Point
Exit Routes
Assembly points
Fire Prevention
Keep all possible ignition sources
Keep the site tidy
Ensure Hot work permits
▪To create awareness and reduce impact of incident
HOUSE KEEPING:
Right place for every thing and everything in its right place
Always clear up your own rubbish and dispose properly
“A Clean site is a safe site”
Poor housekeeping delays the work
Ladders:
▪USE PROPER LADDER FOR AS PER THE JOB
▪Ladder shall be set 1’ out of each 4’ of height
▪Check for condition of rungs and legs
▪Maintain 3 point contact
▪Do not carry any material on hand while climbing ladder
▪Anchor ladder 3 feet above from the resting place
▪Check rails for cracks, checks or bends.
▪Check if the base of the ladder placed on a solid surface
▪Look for anchor points at the top and bottom of the ladder.
Scaffolding
• Erected by “Competent
Person”
• Sound, rigid footing
• No overloading
• Scaffold Grade Planking
• Railings / toe boards
• Tie-Off if no railing
• Access ladders
• Get down from “rolling”
scaffold to move it
• No portable ladders on
scaffolding
Working at height
● Use secured platforms with proper edge protection
• Protect holes, leading edges and fragile materials
• Use Proper scaffold , certified by competent person
Lifelines and full body safety harness must be
worn working at height of more than 2 .0 metres.
WELDING
▪ Provide isolation switch closer to the work place
▪ Welding m/c to be effectively earthed by double earthing.
▪ Wear appropriate PPE like Helmet, face shield, Leather
gloves and shoes
▪ Leave key wrenches on cylinders in use, so
they can be closed quickly
▪ Shield cylinders from direct sunlight or
other heat radiation to avoid build up of
excess internal pressure.
▪ Ensure the tip of the torch is free from dirt and metal.
Compressed Gas Cylinders
• Suitable trolley with fastening arrangement should be used for
transporting gas cutting set.
• Gas cylinders should not be rolled or dragged and should not
be dropped.
• Colour identification of cylinders should be maintained.
• Gas cylinders should be kept shielded from direct sunlight and
excessive heat to avoid build up of excess internal pressure.
• Acetylene cylinders should always be transported and used in
vertical position.
• Hoses should be inspected daily to see that they are free from
cuts, scratches, cracks, burnt or worn patches.
• Hose colours should not be changed and hoses should not be
interchanged.
• Non return valves and flash back arrestors should be provided
in the cutting torch and the hose respectively to prevent gas
mixtures arising in use.
• Keep cylinders away from Oil and grease
• Full cylinders should be kept separate from empty ones.
• Only frictional spark lighter be used to light the torch.
• Key wrenches should be left on the cylinders in use, so that
they can be closed quickly.
• Cylinders should not be used as rollers, work supports or jack
at anytime.
• All personal protective equipment including leather gloves,
coloured cutting goggles should be worn by the operator.
Use foam on liquid/oil fires
Carbon dioxide keep
yourself in fresh air
CLASS ABC
Dry powder - ALL
CLASS C - Carbon
dioxide - Electrical
CLASS A - Water -
Paper and wood
CLASS B - Foam -
Liquid/oil
Don’t use water or foam
on electrical equipment
KNOW YOUR FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Electrical Safety
1. Make sure electrical connections are secured & earthed.
2. Check the wiring insulation is in good condition.
3. Use plug pin for connection.
4. Use extension leads only when necessary and only if they
are rated high enough for the job.
5. Leave at least one metre of workplace around electrical
equipment for instant access.
6. Keep work area clean from oily rags, paper, sawdust,
petroleum coke or anything that could burn.
7. Follow manufacturer’s instruction for electrical equipment.
8. Leave electrical repairs to skilled electricians.
Permit to work system
• Follow work permit system for following jobs:
⮚ HOT WORK
⮚ EXCAVATION
⮚ CONFINED SPACE
⮚ RADIOACTIVE SOURCES
⮚ ELECTRICITY, HAND & POWER TOOLS
⮚ WORK AT HEIGHT
⮚ VEHICLE PERMIT
⮚ CRITICAL LIFTS
• Work permit should be at work site
TOOLS
• Manually Operated:
⮚ Ensure right tool for right Job
⮚ Do not alter the original tool
⮚ Do not use damaged tool
• Powered Tools:
⮚ Check the condition of tool
⮚ Use ELCB for powered tool
⮚ Use proper cords
⮚ Use plug pin for power connection
• No food or drink to be taken on site –
• you must consume these in your canteen /
designated places
