JOURNAL ENTRIES – 9TH EBG
Content Instructions
/ 7.5 / 2.5
I. Write: Write a journal entry for each one of the following topics. They should be turned in on September 10th:
1) Hannibal
Tips: Imagine you are one of Hannibal’s soldiers, and you are crossing the Alps with him. What kind of troubles do
you go through? What kind of hardships do you endure? Do you still trust Hannibal? Will he get you and your fellow
soldiers out of this mess?
2) Gracchus Brothers
Tips: The Gracchus brothers looked for reforms which helped the working class or plebeians in Rome. This did not
look good for the Patricians! Do you think we are going through the same situation here in Ecuador, with our
government?
3) Julius Caesar
Tips: You are a Roman legionnaire. You have to sleep on the mud, each food that tastes like garbage, live with fellow
soldiers (away from your family) and have an exhausting routine. But your commander is a man who leads by
example. He does the same things as the common soldier and endures the same hardships. Do you admire him? Write
a letter to your family and tell them about your admiration for this great man!
4) Circus Maximus
Tips: In ancient Rome, Romans didn’t have TVs or PS3s. Instead they went to the Circus Maximus to watch
gladiators fight to the death and many other, blood related “sports”. Imagine you just came back from a show, and you
are narrating it to your friends, who were no able to attend it.
5) Barbarians in Rome
Tips: You have heard of the enormous men from the north. Dirty, unshaven, long haired and speaking in weird
tongues (like hippies from Montañita). You see one of them on the Forum, with an axe on his belt. What is you first
impression?
