I. Write: Write a journal entry for each one of the following topics:
1) The Bible and History
Tips: We have always looked at the Bible as a Holy Book. But when we study it from a historical point of view, it
gives us a lot of information about our heritage. What have you learned so far by studying it in this way?
2) Babylonian Captivity: Cyrus the Great
Tips: You were captured and taken to faraway lands. But then a man with his powerful army, sets you free, lets you
go back to your land and even helps you rebuild your old temple! Is this generous man, known as Cyrus the Great, the
Messiah? What do you think?
3) The “Hammer”
Tips: You follow Judas Maccabee into battle against the Hellenized Jews. He fights right by your side with the ragre
and courage of a lion. Now you understand why he is called “The Hammer”. Describe his actions and leadership
during the battle as if you were there.
4) Romans I
Tips: When God freed you from Egypt, your ancestors made a pact that you should only have one God. But now these
strange “nazi-like” people come in and tell you to worship their many gods. This offends you down to your very
bones. What actions do you take?
5) Romans II
Tips: The Romans have destroyed the Second Temple. Killed your people by the thousands and sold many others as
slaves. Your faith is almost broken. As a Pharisee (Rabbi) you have a duty to your fellow Jews to comfort and lead
them into a new way of life. What would you tell these broken souls to help them out?
