INTRODUCTION
For supplementing the teaching of mathematics in the classroom
and to widen knowledge of his students a good mathematics
teacher can involve his students in number of co-curricular
activities such as organization and use of mathematical library,
mathematics laboratory, mathematics exhibitions etc.
Mathematical exhibition is one of the important sources of
acquiring vast and varied mathematical knowledge and skills. It
serves the purpose of inculcating good reading and study habits
which help in promoting self-study and independent work among
students. The students at a young age should be exposed to the
joy of exhibiting their skills and to think of innovation works.
The mathematics exhibition provides opportunities for
individualized instructions, introduction to the use of calculators
and computers etc. It is a setting with in which students can
develop their independent study programmes. The exhibition
approach embodies the concepts of active learning, pupil’s
involvement and participation and relevance. It is a
demonstration of the concept of an activity oriented mathematics
3. programme.Nowadays exhibitions approach to mathematics
instruction is being used effectively in many schools.
Mathematics exhibition plays an important role in motivating
the students to learn mathematics with interest and involvement.
Sometimes mathematics teaching in classroom becomes so
monotonous that the students become restless and get easily
distracted. Mathematics exhibition provide excellent
opportunities for students to break away from the monotony of a
rigid and structured classroom environment. Though the learning
that takes place in a mathematics exhibition is informal in nature,
it is meaningful as the stress is on practical applications. In the
mathematics exhibition the student choose the activities on his
own, and pursues them in a free and relaxed manner contrary to
the atmosphere prevailing in classroom. Exhibition provides a lot
of freedom of expression for the students and it supplemements
classroom learning. The mathematical exhibition will create
among students an idea of the practical utility of mathematics in
addition to creating their interest in mathematics.

Need and Importance of Mathematics Exhibition
4. The mathematics exhibition can serve a number of purposes.
These purposes or values shoe the need and importance of
mathematics exhibition. The values of a mathematics club may
be summarized in the following points:
It inculcates the habit of self-study and independent work
among the students.
It acquaints the students with the contribution of great
mathematicians in their fields.
It stimulates individual interest and initiative in the study of
It the subject matter.
It provides ales formal environment of study as compared to
usual classroom teaching.
It provides opportunities to the child for freedom of thought
and free exchange of different views.
It enhances co-operation between the teacher and the
taught.
It offers an ideal avenue for a free exchange of
mathematical ideas and for frank and helpful criticism of
these ideas.
It provides the students with opportunities to develop their
explorative, creative and inventive faculties.
It provides opportunities for students to translate the theory
into practice and to apply their learning in daily life
situations.
It helps the student to imbibe social qualities like
cooperation, tolerance, adjustment and open mindedness as
they work in groups.

5. It helps to meet individual needs of the students as every
member gets an opportunity to work in his areas of interest.
It provides first hand experiences to the learners as they
arrange for exhibition.

ORGANISATION OF MATHEMATICS EXHIBITION
6. A properly organized mathematics exhibition goes on a long way
in stimulating interest among the students in mathematics. It is
desirable that the initiative for the organization of such an
exhibition should come from the students. It should run by the
students under the supervision and guidance of the mathematics
teacher. The objectives of exhibition should be clearly stated and
understood by all members. Emphasis should be on active
participation of the members draft constitution of the exhibition
can be prepared by the mathematics teacher in consultation with
the headmaster, to facilitate its smooth functioning. This draft
constitution provides information regarding name of the
exhibition, theme, aim and objectives of the exhibition, entry
fee, purpose for which expenditures can be incurred the
competent authority to sanction the fund, the various offices
available and the procedure for filling up such offices, etc.

CONCLUSION
7. A mathematics exhibition gets the students acquainted with a
wide range of topics relating mathematics. The success of a
mathematics exhibition depends upon the enthusiasm shown by
teachers as well as involvement of the students in the activities
and programmers organized by the exhibition.
